Freshmen Orientation Schedule 2023

We are excited that you have chosen to become a Tabor Bluejay! Over the next four years, you will experience many defining moments, and the faculty and staff are eager to help you navigate this new stage of life with encouragement and support. Within this brochure, there are a variety of sessions that are geared to help you make the transition to Tabor College and the Hillsboro community. Our mission is to “prepare people for a life of learning, work, and service for Christ and His kingdom.” Our hope is that you take advantage of everything we have to offer on our campus; It will be a life transforming experience spiritually, academically and socially for you.
Welcome to the Tabor family!
Frank Johnson, Ph.D. Interim Dean of Student LifeLife is full of highs and lows. We experience significant accomplishments and setbacks. On one side, we may experience great joy and pride in things like league or state championships, graduation, or other important academic achievements. On the other side, we may experience extreme tragedy such as the effects of divorce, loss of jobs, homelessness, food insecurity, racial inequality, and the death of loved ones.
No matter what we’ve experienced and gone through, we are called to know Christ more and more. Paul himself says that he is continually striving for this. He forgets the past, both the good and the bad, in order to focus on obtaining this prize of knowing Christ more. All his accomplishments are now considered trash, all his suffering and hardships are behind him as he presses on to reach his goal!
Philippians 3:13-14
We too are called to persevere through all the hardships in our lives. We are to not let our past accomplishments distract us from reaching our goal either. Like a runner, not wanting to waste energy looking back at the ground they’ve covered, we are to fix our eyes on the prize ahead. We are called to strain and expend all our efforts and energies toward that which Jesus has called us to.
Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:13-14
Preparing people for a life of learning, work, and service for Christ and His kingdom.
To be the college of choice for students who seek a life-transforming, academically excellent, globally relevant and decidedly Christian education.
The core values that influence the mission and vision of Tabor College include a commitment to being Christ-centered in all aspects of life, a passion for learning, the promotion of service to others, and meaningful involvement in college and community activities.
The primary value of Tabor College is its desire to be a Christ-centered school. All activities and programs flow out of this value and are evaluated in reference to it. The Mennonite Brethren Confession of Faith provides the biblical and theological foundation for Tabor.
The purpose of Tabor is to promote learning. We recognize that learning occurs in informal settings, in the classroom and in organized field experiences. Our goal is to develop students who are broadly educated, competent and well-rounded, who embrace the joy of learning.
We believe that being engaged and involved increases learning. Participation, both in and outside of the formal classroom, is an effective way to prepare students for a life of work and service.
Tabor values community. We desire our school to be a place where individuals feel like they belong, where there is a sense of mutual support and students hold each other accountable.
Service is at the heart of Christ-centered education. We emphasize the value of caring for others in all that we do.
