Beach Day

I am pleased to inform you all that Taylor College offers a wide range of exciting experiential learning opportunities to students. I'll tell you about this journey because of that.

Beach Day

This event was designed to bring joy to students throughout the September holiday season. It offers a variety of stimulating and thrilling opportunities for students to gain valuable educational resources for teenagers' development. The day started around midday and students were welcomed with a delicious BBQ to get them ready for the afternoon.

Afterwards, students participate in a treasure-hunting activity in teams, followed by a beach excursion to observe the changing seasons as well as the waves. Additionally, students were encouraged to participate in physical activities such as football and volleyball, which are essential for physical health. Furthermore, water balloon throwing was a popular activity among students. The students loved it!

This trip was by far the most enjoyable trip I've had since arriving in Australia, at least for myself, with the addition of friendly acquaintances, enthusiastic lecturers and a more appropriate learning environment. This journey was incredibly fun for me.

1. Did you enjoy the event?

-Student A: Of course! This was my first time attending a Taylor‘s event! I felt really happy and it was a whole new experience!

-Student B: Yes, I did. I had never participated in such activities before so I enjoyed it with my friends.

2. What is the first image you would think of that day?

-Student A: Everyone threw each other into the water. We were all drenched but happy!!! This activity has added a lot of fun to my relatively bland life of late. It was a very meaningful and wonderful event for me.

-Student B: I think the activities will be organized in order and everyone will be serious when participating in the games. However, people can do everything they want and there are no restrictions. Especially I can make other friends and play and laugh with those friends.

3. Would you want to go to this kind of event and why?

-Student A: Absolutely! It was an unforgettable memory for me, I met a lot of new awesome people and I had a great time!

-Student B: Of course, yes, I hope Taylors college can organize more outdoor activities that are free and all students can participate.

CABRAMATTA MOON FESTIVAL

Sydney’s Activities

The Cabramatta Mid-Autumn Festival is one of Sydney's biggest and liveliest Asian cultural festivals. On September 17 this year, there is plenty of entertainment: lion dances, performances, live music, fireworks, lanterns and Asian food from around the world. Vibrant colors, music and a wide variety of sweet, sour, hot and salty special food make people feel as if they are in their hometown on a full moon night in Mid-Autumn

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Sydney Opera House. To this end, the Opera House is holding a three-day light show, starting on the evening of October 20. 21-22 is Open House, the first free day in eight years. In addition, if you missed this time’s light show, Vivid Sydney which is a dazzling light shows every year, from late May to around mid-June, accompanied by a drone show.

Besides, from 7 to 9 October, the St. Martin's Chamber Orchestra from London will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a three-night performance led by the renowned violinist Joshua Bell. From October 12 to 21, the physical drama Dimanche combines art forms such as puppetry and expressionless pantomime. From 25 to 29 October, Message in a bottle will be performed. There will also be A Monumental Public Artwork from September 28 to October 31, when artists use 100,000 oyster shells to create a masterpiece of art commemorating Indigenous peoples.

Maggie Topic: Mother’s love The painting is about love, especially mother's love among many loves. In my opinion, this kind of love is the most reassuring and easy to empathize with.

The reason why I wanted to paint the mother holding the child is because I think a hug is the most direct way to express love, and the happy smile on the mother's face reflects the love for the child. Flowers also symbolize the goodness and beauty of mother nature.

Alicia The original intention of creating this painting was to express my experience in high school, which was depressing and I needed to wear a mask all the time. The inspiration comes from Sally Face, which is my favourite game. His face is disfigured and his right eye seems to be stitched up, so I also designed the figure in my painting in this way to show his inner pain and torn feeling.

He is in pain inside, but he has to show happiness due to the expectations and requirements of others. This exacerbated his exhaustion and despair.

Kitning Topic: Pathetic Humans are always struggling in the abyss. Their desire, anxiety and anger were controlling them and trying to pull them into the darkness. They are yelling for help and they want change, hope and beautiful things. Yet, it is hard to achieve as most of them hope to change once again and again but still lose to their own desire. That means they are getting into a vicious cycle and torturing themselves. Good news is, their desire to change is unchanged. Even though it is a slim chance to change, they still want to catch it.

Yvette Topic: God This painting shows the relationship between man and God. My inspiration came from the different images of gods, most of which are based on human images with bizarre features. God was created by man, and over thousands of years it was man who increased and modified the image of God. I believe that making gods capable of meeting people's needs is the right way to believe in religion.

Yinbo Hu This artwork is part of my Visual Arts (VA) course, and its theme is the 'Human Condition.' I decided to combine this theme with one of my favourite fields, architectural design. In the picture, you can see a series of buildings that I have personally designed.

Buildings are not only places where people live and work, but they are also integral elements of our lives. They reflect culture, history, and societal conditions. I chose to feature buildings I've designed because they represent my passion for architecture and creativity. Moreover, they mirror my understanding of human life and the environment.

Bún Chả Obama Rate: 8/10 This restaurant became popular after Barack Obama visited this family-owned restaurant in May 2016. Personally, I think this place has excellent customer service the food here is great but the proportions are a bit small even though I’ve ordered the special Bun Cha.

Bánh Đa bà cụ Hải Phòng Rate: 10/10 One of my go-to places whenever I visit Hai Phong City. I ordered the special Bánh Đa Cua from my personal taste and experience I think the customer service here is amazing the staff was super friendly and the food tasted delightful.

6/10 I ordered a detox juice, avocado ice cream, and a beef teriyaki with rice.

The avocado ice cream is worth a try because it tasted amazing not too sweet but not too bland there is a very “real” avocado flavor to it there is also coffee inside of the chocolate ball as well so I would personally rate this a 10/10. The detox juice didn’t have a very pleasant smell but it tasted very healthy I would rate it a 7/10 but can do BETTER, the teriyaki beef with rice disappointed me the most this dish was very bland I would rate this dish 5/10.

The Brix Thao Dien 7/10 I ordered Tom Yum soup with Indian rice. The rice itself tasted great with the right amount of seasoning but the Tom Yum soup was too salty and for its price, it was not worth it. I would recommend this place if you want to take good pictures or to go for a drink because the alcoholic beverages here are nice. I ordered a mojito and it was one of the best I’ve had.

Newcastle

We also spent a day in Newcastle Zoo, Blackbutt Reserve Wildlife Exhibit, a small zoo in Kotara (could arrive by train).

Compared to a traditional zoo filled with crowded people and crowded animals in small cages, there are fewer people and have changes to interact with some animals, such as peacocks, kangaroos and emus.

TIP: It is better to arrive here when the weather is warmer, more comfortable to jump into the sea water.

Williamtown Air Show will be held over the weekend of Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 November 2023. Whether you're an aviation enthusiast or someone curious about the flight, the NWAS23 promises an unforgettable weekend of excitement, education and inspiration. Our Holidays I went to Newcastle during the midterm break with my friend. It only takes 3 hours train ride from Sydney central station to this peaceful beautiful place.

Newcastle has long coastline with beaches and attractions. If there is a fine weather, the ocean is always azure with bright white waves. .

Along the coast, there is memorial walk and anzac memorial bridge to remember the anzac army.

The Ocean Bath beside Nobbys beach is a sea bath known for architectural features constructed in 1910s, but unfortunately it was under construction when we arrived.

Orientation Day

Hello everyone! My name is Eddie and I come from Vietnam. After I participated in the orientation day, all I want to say is O-Day was a great experience for me.

On Oct 5th, I made new friends and learned new things. As I first entered the room, Mr. Jones and Mrs. Naomi welcomed me with a smile on their faces. Then we sat in a big circle. Everyone seemed to be shy and didn’t want to talk very much, but our SRC President – Ameen and Publicity Officer – Robin came in and started to stir the air up. They were geniuses in that field. In just a few moments, the atmosphere was stirred up and people became more open. We asked each other's names and got to know each other, thereby making many new friends. Moments later the teachers started coming in and we began the orientation.

We were briefly introduced to the rules, teachers, and clubs. Because most of us are under 18, there are a lot of things we need to pay attention to. One of them is curfew. We are not allowed to stay outside after 10 p.m, but that is not the problem at all. Mrs. Orozco helped us a lot to get used to the new environment as this is our second home apart from our family. After the orientation, Andy once again stirred up the atmosphere with a game that is very similar to Kahoot, so we had a very good time together. At the end of the day, Ashley and Andy took us on a tour of the campus and showed us the common room, function rooms and many classrooms. Through this tour, I recognized that our school is quite big and there are lots of areas for students to gather around to do classwork or have a chat.

I'm very happy to have participated in O-Day, it was an unforgettable memory for me. And I will definitely participate in the next O-Day!

Orientation Day

How is it going, guys?! My name is Stacy and I'm a student in the October Intensive Program that has an orientation day in Taylors' College on the 5th of October I’ll tell you about the 2 things I like in the O-day!

1. The warm-up games

at the orientation's start were fun and exciting. Furthermore, it helps me to connect to the students around me as we have to join in groups and then proceed to talk and discuss so I made alot of friends during the activity which is great!

2. The enviroment what grabbed my attention was how the teacher was passing the mic around to give chance for others to present made me realize how friendly the environment is in Taylors College which enabled me to feel comfortable and ready to start my journey in Taylors!

In conclusion, the orientation included all the information I need in order to start my education journey at Taylor College and also gave me the chance to make friends so I don't have to sit alone in classes:( Overall 10/10!

Hidden Gems in Sydney Choosing where to eat is one of the hardest decisions ever since the variation of options around us was what made it harder. This problem will now be addressed. Let’s start solving!

Miso Located 10 minutes away from school, this restaurant is a perfect to-go lunch date. Their food quality will not disappoint us, with expected tender and crunchy meat when it comes to katsu dishes, and the taste in general is always on point, not too salty or too plain. At Miso, you will be given the usual, hidden and “today’s special” menu. This is when a hard decision comes, as to pick out a bad dish here must be a rare possibility. Describing food might be subjective, but I must say this is the restaurant for me to impress someone. Let alone the fact that they will be thrilled by your good taste in food, but also the service at Miso. However, keep in mind that this restaurant is always busy, and there is a high chance of you having to wait for a table, especially at around 7pm.

Overall, I am positive that Miso will win your heart.

Luxe - Portman St The location of this restaurant is the selling point, especially on sunny days. It allows us to sit back and observe the surrounding atmosphere. Especially when your brain is in its busy mode, having time for yourself might be too luxury to afford, but to treat yourself to a meal that can fill up both of your physical and mental energy may be the best purchase you could have. The luxury factor may come from the price, in the context where you don’t get what you expect. Luxe has a diverse and creative menu. However, the taste varies at different times with the same dish. Your order might taste good today, and the next day it might be a completely opposite situation. This is when your order becomes a money consumed purchase. Yet, considering the other possibility of you getting a good dish and a spectacular view, Luxe deserves at least one chance. You can start discovering Luxe by trying their Veggie Bowl.

That is when I learn how to upgrade my cooking.

Price: $18-$28 Rate: ⅗ Zeus Greek Street A wild card to be called. Zeus Greek Street is where I tried my first Greek dish. Hence, it may be risky to state my judgement on the Greek food scale. I must speak in the general food language. My usual order is the Zeus Pita Wraps and the Haloumi chips. The lamb is tender and juicy. As I said, I am a beginner in Greek cuisine so I don’t know if this is a regular taste, but the seasoning is addictive. The bad side of this restaurant is that all of the dishes that I tried so far did not disappoint me. They stole my money!

Price: $18-$28 Rate: 5/5

The Barbershop (Bar) This bar might be a good start for those who want to start stepping into the alcohol world. The drinks are easy to drink and do not have a strong alcohol taste. In fact, I have only tried their cocktails menu. Hence, on the scale of pure liquors, my knowledge remains unknown. However, it is never a waste of time to talk to the bartender on their recommendation of bars or drinks. You may also tell them your preference of alcohol or how strong you like it to be.

The bartenders are genuinely nice to you, that will make you feel secure being there. Since this bar has a lot of good sides, you should expect them to be busy, especially on Friday and Saturday. Hence, you might have to share tables, particularly at the couches area.

Suicidal Prevention Month September 10th Suicidal thoughts can occur to anyone at any point in their life. They are more common than you may realise. You may be feeling overwhelming pain, hopeless, worthless, isolated, or like there is no way out. While it is OK to have suicidal feelings, it is important to reach out and let someone know how you’re feeling. Lifeline is here for you. We understand what it’s like to have thoughts about suicide. We’re here to listen and help you.

Are you worried about someone?

1. Acknowledge your own reaction Talking about suicide can feel overwhelming, especially if you are worried about a loved one. Before reaching out to check in on others, it’s first important to check in with yourself to ensure you are feeling able to have this important conversation. Whatever your reaction or feelings, it’s important to be aware of these before reaching out to support others. Getting some support for yourself, thinking about what you will say and having a plan may assist you. Speak with a trusted friend or professional, or contact services such as Lifeline for additional support. You don’t have to bear this responsibility alone.

2. Ask directly Unless someone tells you, the only way to know if a person is thinking of suicide is to directly ask. Asking the question shows that you have noticed things, been listening, that you care and that they’re not alone. Talking about suicide will not put the idea into their head but will encourage them to talk about their feelings. Most people thinking about suicide don’t necessarily want to die but just need someone to help them. With the right support, recovery is possible and they can go on to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives.

3. Be there and listen Listening to the person is essential to showing them that you care and that you want to understand what they are going through. Let them do most of them talking without offering any judgements or advice. Stay with them and work with them to ensure they aren’t alone – that might mean physically staying with them or finding someone else they trust to be there with them.

4. Check out their safety You may need to ask the person some more questions to understand their safety and if there is any immediate danger. Asking the person: Do they have a specific plan on how they will end their life?

Are they able to carry out this plan (for example do they have access to a weapon, car, drugs, medicines)?

If possible, try removing these objects as this can also help keep the person safe.

5. Get help If someone’s life is in danger, call 000.

Supporting others having a difficult time can also impact you. Remember, you don’t have to take on all of this responsibility by yourself. It’s important for you to have a strong support network around you too.

6. Follow up After you’ve had this important first conversation, it’s important to check in with the person soon afterwards to show them that you care, but also that you’re serious about supporting them. Showing them that you’re there for them can make all the difference. Ask them some questions about what support they have involved and offer to help them however they might need, for example to attend any appointments.

Reminding them that while you don’t know how they’re feeling exactly, you want to help them get through this difficult time. Offering them hope that this difficult time will pass and there is help available to them. They’re not in this alone.
