“2Y- Wmind” by Vince Huynh

Based on my personal experience during the pandemic, I underwent a significant transformation from being highly focused on work to becoming largely inactive. While my artistic endeavors were put on hold, my creative ideas persisted and intensified over time. I found it challenging to distinguish between reality and my imaginative realm, resulting in symptoms such as headaches, shortness of breath, a sensation of burning in my chest, insomnia, and depression. Despite my attempts to block out external stimuli by covering my room's window with a curtain, faint rays of light still managed to seep through the tiny gaps. This interplay between darkness and flickering light momentarily blurred my thoughts. The more Iack knowledged the beauty of the outside world, the more it frightened me. Although my mind was filled with numerous art projects I yearned to pursue, I was apprehensive about returning to that vibrant life once the prolonged pandemic had concluded. The flood of inspiration in my mind disrupted my focus and overwhelmed my boundaries. I often questioned how many times I had truly observed the world through open eyes, or how frequently my gaze had turned inward to explore my desires.

During this period, I came to the realization that as the windows of my eyes were closing, the windows of my mind were opening. I found myself suspended between reality and my personal realm of imagination. The more these domains intertwined, the greater the contrast, evoking both a desire to pursue my passions and a fear of confronting the truth, leading to resistance to those desires. Our perception is shaped by our unique way of seeing and our desired perspective of the world. These perspectives may be similar yet distinct, two parts of a whole. I aspire to depict the chaotic landscape within my mind, where the windows of my eyes shut off the real world, embodying the simultaneous contrasting of multiple meanings.

Description: This photo was taken at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney when I went there for the first time. The sunshine was so good on that day. I felt so excited that day and enjoyed the sunshine in the garden. Therefore, I wanted to record this “warm” moment with the great sunshine.
