TyJuan M Taylor is a senior at Crete-Monee High School As a kid, he spent hundreds of hours fantasizing about superheroes like Spider-man, swinging through the city saving people from danger. A part of him wanted to be like Spider-man, though heknew it could never happen since he was just an average black kid in poverty. He couldn't climb on walls or shoot out webs, but it was nice to fantasize. A large part of this fantasy stemmed from his desire to be saved himself. Deep down inside he wanted a superhero with spectacular powers to swoop him from his own reality He realized that to become the hero he wants to be, he must educate himself with the knowledge and skills needed to help others navigate the legal system effectively. Throughout his post-secondary education, TyJuan plans to deepen his understanding of civil law so he can guide others through their situations. He wants to be an outlet for those who feel lost, empowering them with the information, and motivation they need to advocate for themselves.

She gave birth to her first child, Sydelle in January 2024 while continuing her educational goals. Her mother often says that Sydney cannot be pushed to do things in others time, yet in her own time. Her true passion has always been a good debate, which is why she decided to return to school and pursue a career in law enforcement. She currently works as a caregiver for her grandfather while attending Kishwaukee College where she majors in Criminal Justice and holds a 2.80 GPA. She plans to apply to the police academy after graduation this May.

Sydney grew up as an Archonette under the guidance Friend Alicia Thomas, her aunt and later Friend Shannon Blackburn. She joined Zeta Amicae of Alsip, Illinois Auxiliary under the leadership of her mother, Amica Jessica L. Waite in 2021. Joining has been a positive and thriving force in her life. And was awarded Officer of the Year at the auxiliary end of year celebration in 2024. She volunteers at her school during their annual blood drive as well. Her family, friends, village, and auxiliary are excitingly waiting to see how she continues to blossom.

Who knew? No one knew that 20 years ago, 20 women who came together and stepped out on faith with a vision to create an atmosphere for professional women to display their talents, fulfill their goals, and commit to giving back to the community that 20 years later, this is how it would be. These 20 women chartered a chapter that was joined by many others and have blazed trails that will leave a lifetime of footprints in the sand.
Over the past 20 years, Tau Psi Zeta has excelled in uncharted territories and continues to be a home that Sorors can join and make a lifelong commitment to the organization.
Tau Psi Zeta (TPZ) chartered with 20 and now have over 300 financial members which makes the chapter one of the largest chapters in the organization. It is the home of Past International 3rd Vice President, Leah Bailey Langston, Past Illinois State Directors: Marietta CL Bailey, Renee Byrd (served while in TPZ), and Carolyn E. Wilson.
The chapter is award-winning in scrapbook on both Regional and National levels, has an award-winning step team, The Pearl Zone Step Team, is among the top fundraising teams for March of Dimes, St. Jude, American Cancer Society and was a Diamond Donor Chapter for Centennial 2020.
Members of TPZ have held and are currently holding positions on all levels: State, Regional and National, have given out over $150,000 in scholarships, and have completed over 20,000 service hours.
All auxiliaries are active, i.e Youth (Pearlettes, Amicettes and Archonettes), Amicae and Zeta Male Network and take on the challenge with the chapter to be on TOP!
TPZ has numerous awards from NPHC- Chicago Sankofa Awards including Platinum Chapter of the Year, and has had members sit on the board in leadership positions.

The Zeta Amicae of Alsip hosted their annual retreat on February 8 at Alan B. Shepard Hight School in Palos Heights, IL. This year’s retreat focused on Empowerment and Power Skills Training.
The Amicae joined by Friends of TPZ, covered topics such as Time Management Skills, Facing Your Fears and Skill Building Awareness. During the “Facing Your Fears” workshop, attendees learned how some things can keep us moving forward due to fear. This workshop presented by Co-sponsor Friend Dr. Hakeemah Muhammad, allowed some to open up about their vulnerability and share their fears.
Amicae and Friends also learned some yoga skills and meditation techniques taught by Friend Johnique Davis. The retreat also gave attendees a chance to work on their personal vision boards.
The day was filled with great workshops, great speakers and a great environment. Special thanks to our guest speakers Friends Melody Byrd, who presented via Zoom from Singapore, Charlotte Taylor Powers, Dr. Hakeemah Muhammad, Johnique Davis and Renee Byrd.
