About the Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza

The Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza is a non-for-profit event run by a group of keen and enthusiastic agricultural industry professionals. Many of our committee members were past students that, like many of our current event participants, started their journey as a school competitor at events just like the Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza. We are fortunate to have a committee so passionate about giving back to the next generation of cattle enthusiasts.

Since inception in 2006, the increasing popularity of the Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza has far exceeded expectations. We are very proud of the event that we offer each year, annually in October, as it engages networks between countless industry professionals and the young people that will shape the future of our industry. The true success of the Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza is not only owed to the committee for organising the event, but also to the immensely generous support of our sponsors over the years. Without the backing and encouragement of those who sponsor, our event would not have been able to grow to the size and scale that it is today. We hope to sustain this industry leading event for many more years to come.

The increase in the numbers of both cattle and participants over the years is outlined in the table below. We believe this ultimately demonstrates the quality and scope of our event. We are proud to say that no other event in Australia attracts the numbers of young people as the Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza. It is the largest education focused, youth cattle competition in the country.

The Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza’s mission is to encourage, support and educate all youth, not only those currently engaged in the agricultural industry but from all aspects of life. The Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza has a very strong reputation of attracting participants from all over the state and offering equal opportunity to each and every attendee.

We aim to build the skills, knowledge and confidence so that the younger generation will be inspired to pursue further interests and/or careers in the Australian agricultural industry. Countless numbers of our past participants have gone on to lead many successful roles in our wider industry.

The Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza provides a learning platform for all ages of school and tertiary students with a number of competitions and educational workshops held throughout our three-day event. We annually present activities, educational sessions and a friendly competition environment to create enthusiasm for learning more about our great industry. Along the way, our event strives to nurture the development of friendships, networks and lifelong relationships for our participants with others that they may not have encountered in their everyday lives.

Each year our committee strives to reach improvement and growth for the betterment of our event participants. • Hoof and hook cattle competition (live and carcase judging)

• Hands-on, informative educational sessions, presentations and tutorials from leading industry experts

• Careers Evening - Career pathways and employment opportunities presented in a Q&A style session.

• Unled Interactive Judging evening – the UHBB developed this unique opportunity and is the only event in Australia to include this.

• ICMJ Meat Judging competition open to all secondary schools.

• Scholarship/Internship opportunities – this will be an exciting new addition to our 2023 event, offering recipients the opportunity to experience, learn and develop relevant skills and interact with industry leading people/businesses.
