PROGRAM & PERFORMANCE NOTES
Dance of the Day is a fast-moving, spirited solo meant to reflect the intense yet graceful movements of choreographed dancers. The piece is split into two parts: it begins with a steady, driving pulse as the melody bounces along, and the second half transitions to a more mysterious tone, while keeping the rhythmic energy high. Above all, this piece is intended to inspire movement and dance.
Dance of the Day requires a standard 3-octave vibraphone and four mallets. Bright, articulate mallets are recommended. Pedaling is indicated using slurs as well as tenuto and staccato markings. The performer should lightly pedal as necessary to bring out the melody at all times, avoiding a muddy, sustained sound in the first half.
