What makes Taos the best? You do.
Every year, we ask a simple question — “What’s the best?” — and once again, you delivered. This year, a record-breaking 2,559 people cast their votes in our annual Best of Taos reader poll. And while opinions may vary, one thing is clear: Taoseños care deeply about the people, places and businesses that make this place so special.
Some winners return to the top year after year, a testament to their continued excellence and connection to the community. Others are fresh faces, reflecting the evolving spirit of creativity and entrepreneurship that keeps Taos vibrant and ever-changing. All of them have one thing in common: your support.
As always, the Best of Taos is more than a guide for where to eat, shop and play. It’s a love letter to the community we call home — a chance to recognize those who go above and beyond, who turn passion into purpose, and who make Taos a better place to live, work and visit.
Thank you to everyone who voted, and congratulations to all the winners. Whether you’re featured in these pages or inspired by them, we hope this issue reminds you why Taos is one of the most extraordinary small towns in the world.
See you around town — maybe under a “Best of Taos” banner. Ellen Miller-Goins

That’s because, here in Taos, the role of the newspaper hawker — the term used to describe a newspaper street vendor — still survives. It’s truly an art form to make the quick exchange of the weekly print and cash before the light turns. Half the paper’s sales come from the street hawkers (some who have been hawking for almost 30 years) dotted across town. Iam honored to be writing this article once again, expressing my gratitude to each and every one of you for your vote. This is the third consecutive year that I have been voted as Best of Taos Realtor (2nd place, 1st place, 2nd place). I am deeply humbled to know that there are over 200 Realtors from within our local association that you could have voted for, and you voted for me.
This career has been nothing short of extraordinary. Since obtaining my license in 2007, the past 18 years have been filled with remarkable experiences and invaluable knowledge. Most importantly, I have had the privilege of meeting and collaborating with numerous individuals, fostering lifelong friendships and assisting them in achieving their real estate dreams. Whether I am assisting those within our picturesque Taos community or those seeking to become an integral part of it, this journey has been an incredible blessing.
It is imperative that I reiterate that without the support of those who have personally entrusted me to assist them over the years or felt inclined to share my name with a family member, friend, or neighbor, there would be no Yvonne Trujillo.
There are others I feel it is important to recognize as well. I would like to begin by thanking my Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Taos Real Estate family, specifically Jim Pitts, Mark Rochester and David Lynch, for their continued support over the years. They are true leaders who consistently strive to keep all of us brokers delivering our best to the people who entrust us with their real estate needs. Secondly, I would like to thank Page Sullivan for her continued support and encouragement over the years. Her belief in my success is and will always be greatly appreciated. To my husband and business partner, David Trujillo, thank you. I absolutely wouldn’t be here without all of your love, support and encouragement over the past 18 years. To my sons, Isaac & Isaiah Trujillo, you young men have been on this roller coaster ride with me since you were 3 years old! Thank you both for your love, support and belief in me. And last, but not least, thank you to all my family and friends near and far who have supported and encouraged me as well!
Gracias a Todos!

Salon Marjorie, voted this year’s Best Hair Salon, has been chosen as the best place to have your hair styled more than 20 times over the years — and for good reason.
Marjorie Olsen has created a serene, artfilled space brimming with charm and calm. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and attentive. Hair and skin treatments are personalized for each guest and designed to soothe both body and soul. Most importantly, everyone leaves looking — and feeling — great.
“We work hard. We love what we do and we love our clients,” Olsen says. “We hope to create a healing vibrant atmosphere for transformation.”
Clients appreciate the experience of visiting the salon. “Located in a historic building on one of the most iconic streets in Taos, the picturesque front courtyard leads you into the warmth and comfort of a magical space,” says client Laurie Medley. Set among art galleries and museums, the inviting adobe building was constructed in about 1915. It housed a local family and later a well-known potter before becoming Salon Marjorie nearly 25 years ago. Each stylist brings distinct talents that
create a nurturing experience. Shampoos include a relaxing scalp massage, and the goal is always to let each client’s inner radiance shine.
“Marjorie, Bobbi, Carolyn, Amber and Bri are dedicated to their craft,” Medley says.
“They stay current on recent trends and styles and will ensure that you leave looking fantastic and feeling pampered. Being an Aveda salon, you can rest assured that the products they use are pure, clean and ethical.”
Aveda products form the foundation of the salon. “My career has been in alignment with Aveda since the beginning. It is part of who I am,” Olsen says. “Aveda is based on the principles of Ayurveda, which promote balance in the mind, body and spirit.”

Olsen’s son Matthew is continuing that tradition, recently returning from studying Ayurveda in India.
Stylist, artist and business owner, Olsen is also a proud mother. She has lived in Taos for 33 years, and her grace sets the tone for a welcoming and peaceful space.
Salon Marjorie offers haircuts, color and styling, along with facials and body treatments, all using plant-based, sustainable products. Services are available for women, men and kids.

Mark Twain’s words greet the visitor to Clarke & Co. Menswear at the John Dunn Shops between Bent Street and the historic Taos Plaza: “Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society.”
It’s at once playful and profound. That’s how Kristin Facciolini and Cullen Stevens, the popular men’s clothing store’s owners, like it.
And clearly, customers do, too. Clarke & Co. has once again been named Best
Men’s Clothing Store in the Best of Taos awards, a testament to nearly four decades of tailoring taste and style for Taoseños and visitors alike.
Founded in 1987, Clarke & Co. is a boutique-style shop that blends quality with personality, offering everything from crisp dress shirts to ultra-soft casual wear. When Facciolini and Stevens took over the business 18 years ago, they brought with them a sense of vision — and a desire to evolve.
“We wanted the store to feel comfortable, not intimidating,” Facciolini says. “Clothing has to feel nice. We look for pieces that are a little different, well made,
and that you won’t find just anywhere.”
Facciolini handles the buying, curating a selection that includes brands like Bugatchi, Viyella, True Grit and Tori Richard. Their collection is both sophisticated and mountain-ready, with offerings like plush fleece pullovers, Southwestern-inspired button-ups, and pima cotton knits that match Taos’ high-desert lifestyle.
“Of course, we have to have that Southwestern feel,” she says. “Our customers crave it.”
Their attention to detail doesn’t stop with clothing. Clarke & Co. also stocks high-quality accessories — Italian leather belts, Bailey hats, leather bags and even cologne — because, as Facciolini puts it, “You want the whole look.”
What sets Clarke & Co. apart is the hands-on, personalized service. For customers who find shopping stressful, they offer personal shopping experiences, complete with one-on-one appointments and help assembling outfits. “Some guys just don’t shop much,” says Stevens. “So we make it easy.”
That dedication is paying off. “Our customers are loyal,” Facciolini says. “We’ve had some coming back for 20 years. Some shop twice a year — every time they visit Taos.”

With a mix of longtime locals and style-minded visitors, the shop is expanding again. The owners are in the midst of remodeling a neighboring space to grow their Western wear line — more snap shirts, denim and maybe even boots. “It’s an evolution,” Stevens says. “We’re always listening to what our customers want.”
That evolution keeps Clarke & Co. relevant — and award-winning. For Facciolini and Stevens, it’s all about style with substance, backed by a love for their town and the people who dress up for it.
“We’re here to help people look their best and feel good doing it,” says Facciolini. “That’s why we’re here — and why we’re still growing.”

Ryan Trujillo has done it again. The multigeneration Taoseño and powerhouse broker for the Page Sullivan Group–Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Taos & Angel Fire Real Estate was just voted “Best Real Estate Broker” in Taos for the second time — a feat that reflects not only sales figures, but community trust.
And Trujillo’s numbers are indeed impressive. In the past year alone, he represented over $30 million in real estate transactions, bringing his five year total to nearly $90 million. With more than 140 five-star reviews across platforms like Zillow and Google, his reputation for excellence is well-earned. One client said it best: “Ryan is the BEST Realtor I’ve ever worked with, a true professional… He goes above and beyond being just your Realtor.”
That client-first approach is central to Trujillo’s philosophy. “I treat every client as if I were helping my own family,” he says. “This is a small town. Relationships matter.”
Born and raised in El Prado, Trujillo’s roots in Taos run deep — from his grandfather’s gas
station on Taos Plaza to his father’s legacy as a local builder and his mother’s three decades as a federal real estate specialist. After earning a degree at Occidental College in Los Angeles and working in sports, marketing, and tech, Trujillo returned to Taos in 2019 to put down his own roots — and help others do the same.
“I’m proud to be a resource for Northern New Mexico,” he says. “I want people to know I’m not just selling and help buy homes — I’m helping them become part of a community, with ease.”
Part of that effort means investing in local heritage. Trujillo serves on the board of the Taos Historic Museums and donates to organizations like Stray Hearts Animal Shelter, Community Against Violence, Taos Sports Programs and Rocky Mountain Youth Corps. He also helps educate clients and newcomers through his “Local Guide to Northern New Mexico,” which is published in Discover Taos magazine.
Backed by his team at the Page Sullivan Group — including mentor Page Sullivan and assistant Molly Barlyn — and his life partner Katee Kleiber, founder of High Desert Honey, Trujillo attributes much of his much of his success to collaboration, especially with his peers whom which Trujillo admires. “Real
estate is a team sport,” he says. “I’m grateful to be surrounded by people who believe in going the extra mile.”
And go the extra mile he does. Trujillo regularly creates video tours, invests in multimedia marketing, and uses 3D tech to help out-of-town clients get to know a property. “It’s all about communication, responsiveness, and being proactive,” he says. “That’s how you earn trust — by investing back in the client.”
With another Best of Taos title under his belt and a growing list of satisfied clients, Ryan Trujillo is proving year after year that being rooted in your community isn’t just good for business — it’s essential.

Picture this: a tiger on a zipline. The tiger is imaginary, and the zipline is a string held by a kiddo who’s figuring out the precise angle to deliver the big cat to safety. If it’s a straight diagonal down, the cat’s likely to crash. If the string is too straight, there’s no inertia.
“They’re experimenting with angles,” says Corilia Ortega, executive director of Twirl, everyone’s favorite play and discovery space in the heart of downtown Taos. The nonprofit — which features a bustling outdoor playground with climbing installations, a hobbit treehouse, and the most colorful toy store around, complete with an origami-lotus-lined fish pond and Aladdin-like kivas — is also a STEAM-based, play-focused educational leader for local kids.
“When you apply art to math, the kids
aren’t panicking about their multiplication or a concept like gravity,” Ortega says. “There’s an empowerment of the subject beyond a textbook.”
There’s a running joke among the Twirl team that they rely heavily on the A (art) in STEAM. Whether it’s a field trip to Peñasco, Questa or Cimarron in the trusty “duck truck” — always loaded with supplies to make magic, like construction paper and kinetic sand — or at the local library, or during in-house classes like preschool ballet or “family music” with Ms. Amber Vasquez (aka “the champion of pre-K”), creativity takes center stage.
That’s right — family music. As much as the kiddos are encouraged to, as Twirl’s motto goes, “Play. Create. Explore.,” the team also works with parents and caregivers to promote positive parent-child interaction.
“It’s so much fun to see the way the
parents light up. We’re all lifetime learners. Then they can go home and recreate what we provide, adding more of their personal zest to it,” Ortega says. A former councilwoman whose work is rooted in food systems advocacy, Ortega speaks with spirited joy and proudly calls herself “the silliest of the sillies.”
Ortega is the newest addition to the team, which began 18 years ago as the brainchild of a group of mamas who wanted to create a joyful space where young children and their families could thrive. While many conversations around Northern New Mexico center on educational shortcomings and screen-time overload, Twirl focuses on how children flourish — and some current “little twirlers” are now the children of past students.
“Given the opportunity to tuck the gadgets away, kids know how to play.
Immediately their curiosity is invoked,” Ortega says.
That magic happens at Play Labz — a two-hour bubble of learning held two Saturdays a month during which kids explore robotics, tackle Lego or engineering challenges, and build towers and bridges. Through play, they develop problem-solving skills. Classes stimulate different senses — somatic, auditory (think: kazoo vibrations to phonetics), and emotional.
The party doesn’t stop at the playground. Join Twirl throughout the year at community events like spring’s Storyfest, Twirl Aglow during the holidays, puppet shows at the PASEO in early fall, and the Halloweenies bash where kooky costumes reign. Twirl also partners with Youth Heartline for pop-up events and with the Taos Education Collaborative for summer programming.
It’s a good thing, too, because as Ortega puts it: “Kids don’t wanna leave, and when they’re gone, they wanna come back.”

It’s Friday night at DALEEE. Inside the 8,000-square-foot venue at the KTAOS Solar Center in El Prado, EDM pulses through the air, adding a bumping beat to the already-bustling vibe at Taos’ top music spot. Some gals rock to the rhythm while a crowd waits at the bar for drinks — a classic house margarita, a mezcal old fashioned or a New Mexican draft — and some flavored-to-perfection bites, like empanadas with homemade chimichurri or dressed-up, à la carte tacos.
Outside, in DALEEE’s massive, rolling green backyard with the most jaw-dropping, expansive views, some people kick back to watch as the last of the setting sun turns the Sangre de Cristo Mountains pink. Others lean up against the classic shack structure of the “Tiki Bar.” The volleyball court is alive with mix of faces.
“You’ll see Taos Pueblo people playing with a hippie from the mesa and then a ski bum next to an old man,” says Ricky Carlini, owner of this bustling cultural hub. “Taos is so dynamic and multicultural for being a small town. I feel all these connections make better for everybody.”
And making those connections is Carlini’s mission. It’s a vision he’s nurtured since his teen years in Argentina, pounding drums with punk kids and living by a hardcore “do-it-yourself” ethos. His goal: to unite people through music and art. After arriving in Taos via a Taos Ski Valley cultural exchange, he linked up with local musicians, launched his “Latin Go” music series, and eventually took over the KTAOS venue in summer 2023.
At DALEEE, one night might feature longtime locals showing up for Jimmy Stadler (a perennial Best of Taos favorite), while another brings out die-hard Taoseños for Norteño night. There’s Two-Step Sunday, bluegrass — even stand-up comedy.
It’s the sheer diversity of offerings that makes DALEEE award-winning. Guest collaborators Roots and Wires Presents bring in Grammy-level reggae acts and international artists from Gambia, Cuba, Colombia and beyond. The Taos Jazz Bebop Society hosts contemporary jazz ensembles for brunch. When new local production company Lit takes over with soul-infused, house-based DJs, the roomy venue lights up. On Halloween, the Taos Abstract Artist Collective transforms the space into a disco inferno where the dancing doesn’t stop.
This summer, DALEEE will host its first two-day festival in support of She Rises, an international women’s music gathering. The venue also holds regular fundraisers — for Taos Youth Heartline and Stray Hearts Animal Shelter’s Barks & Brews, for example — and private events like weddings and graduation parties.
“We have a place where everyone is welcome,” says Carlini.

Adam Medina has been at the heart of Taos’ culinary community since childhood. Growing up in the kitchen of his family’s restaurant, the Ranchos Plaza Grill, Medina decided to follow in his family’s footsteps. He attended the Culinary Institute of America in New York and, after graduating, returned home to Ranchos Grill.
A year later, Medina began teaching. Cooking has not only been Medina’s profession, but his passion. He remembers
growing up around chefs, watching his dad and grandpa cook not just as a job but as an act of love.
“They always put their all into all they cooked and to this day, you can taste the love in their food,” Medina says. “My passion mainly stems from this, and when I began the culinary program at Taos High School, it only flourished. I have seen firsthand how beneficial the culinary arts program at Taos High School can be, and I have done my best to continue to provide opportunities to the youth of Taos, to be an inspiration to some, and a helping hand to all. It has been my biggest honor to give back to the youth of Taos, both in honor of my family’s continued legacy as well as Taos High Culinary’s proven success.”
The program won the 2025 New Mexico ProStart Invitational and its ninth consecutive Hospitality Cup. The team dominated 2024 SkillsUSA contests with top finishes in baking, culinary arts and restaurant service, and placed 24th nationally in 2023.
Medina has always been astounded by how quickly the community rallies to support the culinary program at Taos High School.
“We have never had to go without needed supplies or had to sit out trips because of how much community support we receive. I am forever grateful to be a part of this beautiful place, and am blessed to call Taos my home.”
Medina says no matter how far he ventures into the world, his heart will always belong in Taos.
“It is such a unique place, with such incredible people and food unlike any other out there. I have always been a very family-oriented person and growing up in a family restaurant made me all the more so. I have learned so much about the flavors of Taos and continue to learn to this day. It has always amazed me that you could taste 15 different chiles, each one being unique, and each one tasting like the best you’ve ever had.”
And of course this year, you can find the best two-type Taos Red Chile at Ranchos Plaza Grill, which has endured thanks to a pure love of cooking and the people who make it. As Medina’s grandma always used to say, “La sangre corre fuerte entre ustedes” (“The blood flows strong within you”). And apparently, in this family, so does the chile.
8 Ranchos Plaza, Ranchos de Taos 575-758-5788
The Ranchos Plaza Grill continues to nurture and grow the legacy of Medina’s grandparents. As a child, Medina watched his parents work long hours, his passion slowly blooming from that foundation.
“Now more than ever I can see that it was the most incredible blessing. I owe a lot to my parents and grandparents alike.” And all his successes and dreams, he says, are thanks to the support of his true high school sweetheart, Jewel, who has been his rock through all the years.

They say there’s nothing like New York pizza, but I’m not sure if they’ve tried New Yorkstyle pizza in New Mexico. Pizaños — founded by New Yorkers — uses local ingredients and creative combinations to make pies that continuously take the top prize for Best Pizza in Taos. The Taoseño is a classic with a twist: pepperoni or Italian sausage with mushrooms and green chiles. An awesome vegetarian option is the Milky Way, featuring a sun-dried tomato and garlic olive oil base, black olives, walnuts, onions, sun-dried tomatoes and chèvre goat cheese. Eat it while staring up at the Milky Way on Pizaños’ patio, which is easy to see in our town. Pastas and “tunnels” give plenty of options besides pizza.

Schreiber Family Medicine has been a cornerstone of family care in Taos for over a decade. Dr. Lucas Schreiber, repeatedly named Best Doctor, established the practice in honor of his late father, Larry Schreiber. Lucas, delivered by Larry himself, grew up watching his father practice medicine and always knew he wanted to follow in his footsteps.
A Taos native, Lucas began his career by venturing far from the mountains to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Still, he held tightly to his New Mexico roots, planning all along to return to the state for medical school. In August 1996, he enrolled in the University of New Mexico’s School of Medicine, which is unique among medical schools for introducing first-year students to clinical practice. Lucas com-
pleted his residency at UCLA, but near the end of his training, he felt the pull of home and returned to study under his father.
“I could not resist the opportunity to return to my hometown, to work alongside my father and to care for the people of the community that nurtured me and my siblings,” he says.
Lucas takes deep pride in living in Taos.
“Having lived in a variety of places from the West Coast to the East, I have never felt as comfortable as I do amongst my neighbors and patients here in Taos … for all of its quirkiness,” he says. “When my father died unexpectedly in 2016, the community came out in droves to express their support. I am a product of this tricultural, high-desert, mountain town and have never felt more at ease and more certain about my purpose than I am when I am providing medical care to the people of this great community.”
He reflects on the privilege of working in
such a meaningful — and often demanding — profession. Medicine today is increasingly weighed down by administrative burdens that distract from patient care, he notes.
“But when I walk into the grocery store and bump into multiple patients who express their appreciation for the services my office provides to the community, I get a sense of gratification that is hard to rival.”
Lucas is proud to carry forward his father’s legacy of compassionate, comprehensive care. His practice is built on family: Three of his sisters are now part of the team.
“Something that makes our mom, Carol Wells, and would make our late father, Larry Schreiber, very proud,” he says.
Lucas and his wife, Lindsey Schreiber — a local mental health counselor — are raising two daughters, both of whom have expressed an interest in becoming physicians.

With the motto “live, laugh, smoke weed,” you never know where conversations might go with this young fella behind the bar. Trust: It’s always a good drink and a good time.
