HAINAN OCEAN PARADISE 2018 / Hainan, China / Hotel & Resort Landscape / Work completed under P Landscape Co., Ltd. Landscape design, Sculpture design, CAD drawing, 3D modelling, Study Model Rendering

For a hotel landscape inside a water amusement park on the beach of Hainan Island, China, we did an effortful research of the program, the users, the island, the waterpark theme, and wove up a storyline that maps onto all areas and zones, following a mermaid's journey from sea to land as we navigate each part of the hotel landscape.

One of the zones that were especially challenging to design was the drop-off area. Not only the landscape must make a memorable first impression while remaining enigmatic, but it must also comply with the complex worldview local to China.

Continuing from the porte-cochère, the lobby brings users into the realm of an exchanted sea with full effort. We proposed the area be dramatized by a series of gradually evololving sculptures by artist Jennifer McCurdy.

Below are some of the sketches and study models.

E | Chapter 5 Into the Wild : Fisherman's Village West wing garden, inspired by Hainan Fishing Village A crucial part of the landscape that buffers guestrooms from the site borders. This garden is inspired by Hainan's history of fishing endeavor, and combined with fantastical tale and elements borrowed from Hainan's natural geography, a mystic atmosphere was created in such narrow space.

J K | Chapter 3 Playground on the Reef Main pools, Inspired by fantasy underwater landscape Formed after a carefully studied model of pool heights in relation to clear ocean views from every tier, the main pool area takes users to the mermaids' playground, surrounded by actract land art and scultures alluding to marine environment.

HANGZHOU CENTER PLAZA 2018 / Hangzhou, China / Public & Retail Landscape / Work completed under P Landscape Co., Ltd. Landscape design, Sculpture design, CAD drawing, 3D modelling, Study Model Rendering

For a new city landmark in a cultural city, Hangzhou, it was our challenge to bind the old memories and the new lifestyle to create this universally appealing plaza. We borrowed the paradigm of Hangzhou's famous West Lake: path, vista, art, and seasonality, and incorporated the values into the design. As a ground for infinite possibilities, various types of space are integrated. Photos for research purposes only

A SPACE FOR OLD AND NEW, FOR ALL With a vigorous research on Hangzhou lifestyle from the past up to now, we created a solution to an inclusive and cultural public plaza with a variety of space and sculptures that double as a space, a stage, and a gateway. With a request from client that traditional motifs are forbidden, our challenge was to take the intangible indentity of Hangzhou and materialize it in a new way.

BURASARI ISLAND ESCAPE 2016-2017 / Phuket, Thailand / Resort & Spa / Work completed under P Landscape Co., Ltd. Architectural and landscape design, CAD drawing, 3D modelling, Study Model Rendering

Burasari Island Escape is a resort on an island in Southern Thailand. Under the theme of a mystical getaway, our responsibility is to design the spa units with adventurous atmosphere and the feature swimming pool that faces the beach.

For the spa, we studied a big collection of building morphology and structural possibilities before picking one concept that unifies the whole atmosphere. The masterplan prioritizes privacy and good view, hence every unit overlooks the cascading river, screened from the adjacent buildings with lush tropical plants

SWAN LAKE CHIANG DAO 2017 / Chiang Mai, Thailand / Residential / Work completed under P Landscape Co., Ltd. Architectural & installation design, CAD drawing, 3D modelling, Study Model Rendering

Swan Lake Chiang Dao is a housing project of which concept is the simplicity of traditional Chiang Mai lifestyle and its captivating landscape. Our responsibility is to design the landscape as well as the architecture, including Northern-style houses, spa houses inspired by Northern kitchens, reception building in Northern colonial style, and more.

Photos for research purposes only

Apart from residential and facility buildings, the project also provides a farmer’s market with guest houses and cafés. This part of the master plan is open to the public, so we proposed a gathering space with pockets of “privacy” scattered around: pavilions inspired by Chiang Mai style parasols.

BANGKOK CIVIC PLAZA 2017-2018 / Bangkok, Thailand / Public plaza / Work completed under P Landscape Co., Ltd. Architectural & landscape design, CAD drawing, 3D modelling, Study Model Rendering

One of the most challenging projects I have been involved with; the idea is to create Bangkok’s biggest civic plaza that refers back to Thai elements while looking modern and welcoming, with sustainable and universal design. It is to house various types of functions such as concerts, pop-up markets, artwork exhibition, dining, playground, strolling, and more.

We integrate flexible space with Bangkok’s history that is deeply embedded in its core concept, defined by the interwoven hardscape and softscape that take their inspiration from Thai arts and crafts. The tilted circular bridge in the middle acts as an amphitheater as well as a framing and sculptural backdrop for people entering the plaza, while referencing Thai traditional offering tray “Phan,” implying that this civic space is a gift to the city. Although it is complete on its own, the plaza is also a node that responds to all of the surrounding buildings, behaving sort of like an extension for each adjacent areas.

MARITIME DRONE STATION 2015 / Oceans of the world / Sketch design project This project is a submission for IAAC advanced architecture contest

A drone is an unmanned aircraft. In the 21st century, an emerging concept of drones is gaining popularity in fields such as logistics and humanities. A Maritime Drone Station is a non-site-specific architecture in the remote ocean that allows the drone technology to max out its potential in improving sea transportation in the future.

FISHMARKET WATERFRONT 2015 / Urban and architecturalc design / Bangkok, Thailand / Exchange workshop project This project is part of the urban architectual exchange workshop with ENSA Versailles. Team members : Adrien Legrand, Paul Bernard, Pavadee Thuvavong, Suvapat Suvanna This is the first work of the Paris-Bangkok exchange workshop. The programs focus on high density metropolis and renovating a structure. This experimental project is located in Saphan Pla, Bangkok, near an unused dock. Our objective is to integrate water into the community, improve walkability and increase access to the river.

The functions include a market, a sports complex, high-density housing, recreation areas, and a parking building. In this exchange workshop, French students learned from me the knowledge in Thai vernacular architecture and sustainable tropical architecture. Together we created a proposal that combines Thai architecture characteristics and the global millenials’ idea of a community space.

DES LOGEMENTS TRÉS DENSES : ATELIER PRINCIPALE MÉCANIQUE 2015 / Community, mixed-use / RATP Ilôt Championnet, Paris, France / Exchange workshop This project is part of the urban architectual exchange workshop with ENSA Versailles. Groupmates : Adrien Legrand, Paul Bernard, Pavadee Thuvavong, Suvapat Suvanna

This is the second work of the Paris-Bangkok exchange workshop. In Paris, we renovated RATP Ilôt Championnet by converting the roof surface into high-density housing that allows natural light to reach the warehouse space that functions as a transportation hub below.

The program of the high density housing is to integrate private bedrooms, common space, and other service and recreational area into each unit in order to house as many residence as possible in a healthy and revitalizing atmosphere. This proposal answers to ong of Paris’s urban dilemma right now: overpopulation vs the strict building code.

UTCC CENTRAL LIBRARY 2015 / Library / University of Thai Chamber of Commerce, Pathumwan, Thailand This project is part of the coursework at Department of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University

This project is the Central Library of the new campus of University of Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC.) The architecture has three different criterias to fulfill: it has to be a meeting place, a landmark, and a gateway.

Early study models

Sightseeing area Service core Reading and working space with natural light and spatial headroom Outdoor reading space in the garden for those who want to relax Bookshelves protected from UV with screens Reading space with private rooms Librarians’ office Cafe Gathering space

As the node of the whole campus, the open space on the ground floor connects the four parts of the campus. The form is meant to be monumental and iconic, as I simply would like to create something the students would be proud to be photographed in front of as a symbol of their university, and also a symbol of their educational success. The library consists of a cafe, an office, the library space, and an additional function that I added which is the panoramic scenic point at the highest floor, where users can have a memorable experience.

200-BED GENERAL HOSPITAL 2015 / Hospital / Bangkok, Thailand This project is part of the coursework at Department of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University

My proposal for this city hospital is the maximization of the “in-between area, or semi-outdoor area, which is a unique characteristic of eastern and tropical architecture. The roof garden space surrounds the physical therapy department, and the expanded metal plates screen roof mimics the style of a pavillion, creating a pleasant atmosphere to promote a healing environment.

The hospital project is a result of intense study and research, consulting with local doctors and nurses, and making a trip to see how a real hospital operates. Architects not only need to know the most efficient planning layout and the technical details of medical equipments, but also psychology of space that has effect on patients livelinhood.

PLAYGROUND MARKET 2015 / Community mall / Chachoengsao, Thailand This project is part of the coursework at Department of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University

This project focuses on revitalizing an abandoned market into a new commercial and community plaza. My proposal was to base the new design on the philosophy of playgrounds to encourage human movement, fun interaction, and sense of community.

former existing structure

From the book Playground & Play Apparatus, the five characteristics of playground spaces are as follow: Natural play area Open space Streets Adventurous place Hideout The aim is to bring joyfulness and livelihood of the playground experience back into people's lives via architecture. The curved circulations and form to encourage flow of connection. The various different spaces cater to different activites assigned to each area such as an outdoor theater, an indoor fresh market, restaurants, a sightseeing tower, a museum, and more.

THEATER & INSTALLATION

WATERSHIP DOWN 2017 / Scenic design / Chulalongkorn University Auditorium stage Watership Down novel written by Richard Adams, 1972.

From the book I read over and over, this is an experimental project I personally started. Watership Down is intriguing as a stage play because of the “rabbit eye view” scale. Going bold with the plants is key; I intended to create a set that “overpowers” the rabbits, for I was going with the notion that rabbits interact with a space by “hiding.” in it

THE CHERRY ORCHARD 2017 / Scenic design The Cherry Orchard original script written by playwright Anton Chekhov, 1903.

I once went to see a renowned scenic design professor for advice on how to properly get started, and he suggested that I start with the script of The Cherry Orchard. Reading the script and interpreting how the story revolved around the rise of bourgeois, fall of aristocracy, and the fragile nature of social dynamic, in the form of transcient cherry blossom foliage looming over the place they called home.

After researching on Russian Dacha, social class, and 1900 politics, I decided to create a more surreal and abstract set based on the atmosphere of that era, to give this retelling a more conceptual look. The cherry foliage not only cradles the scene, but also suffocates the character as we watch them come, go, and die away. However, as this sketch is the first draft, I was adviced by the professor to do more research and reading between the lines of the script, and to weigh carefully how appropriate the cherry blossom appearing in the interior scenes is.

THE POWER 2017 / Scenic design The Power novel written by Naomi Alderman, 2016 What would happen if sexism went the other way? This is a historical record of the 10-year revolution of women rising to power with their ability to create lightning. The most prominent element in the story would be the lightning. I started the concept design by researching the many alternatives of how we could create a materialized lightning that has powerful visual and huge stage presence.

Church of Mother Eve Besides being the set for the opening scene, the church acts as a mild foreshadowing the important role lights would be playing. One window in the scene gives an outlook to the natural lightning occuring outside, while the backdrop panel acts as a surface for the strobe light and the lightning projection.

Moldova Moldova is in Eastern Europe, so I combined the architectural elements from around the area to create this fictional castle. In the book, the castle is described as romantic and surreal, representing the authoritarian ruler’s questionable taste, so I tired to recreate the discomforting atmosphere. The One-window is also present to signify connection in the story.

Washington D.C. Originally, the protagonist of this scene was a state governer, but for this play she would be the POTUS in order to introduce her character more simply. The arrangement of the set pieces, backdrops, and the windows, creates a conceptual Oval Office in the White House. The backdrop can be used for various scenes with lighting projection.

The Forest The only scene where a natural lightning can be seen outdoors is the forest. The composition of a dying tree “Creation of Adam” touching the lightning subtly gives out that the new age has come; The Day of the Girls. The same backdrop from the D.C. scene is utilized to create the mystic forest filled with tribes and refugee camps after the war has destroyed the old world.

PERFECT BLUE 2017 / Scenic design パーフェクト・ブルー・完全変態 novel written by Yoshikazu Takeuchi, 1991. Animated film directed by Satoshi Kon, 1997.

Mima is a pop idol-turned-actress. Faced with trauma of death threat, sexual violence, murder accusations, and social judgement, Mima’s sense of self spirals into chaos. An experiment with shadow, light, and rippling geometry as a stage for “perception vs projection,” this minimalistic set design for Perfect Blue is how I would portray the mental expense of the media’s definition of perfection. Detail for horizontally and vertically movable set

The idea of a kinetic set is inspired by the duality of Mima’s inner thoughts and her pressured decisions.

AIR PHENOMENON 2013 / Art direction & Installation design / ArchCU Stu79 production Extra curriculum project

Designed to be a centerpiece for a nighttime and daytime student-alumnus assembly event, this installation was referred to by the students as a “Totem Pole,” a backdrop for a zoetrope-like performance. The inspiration for the year’s event was air phenomenon; the things around us are ever changing, and humans were merely the observers.

This installation was the first “kinetic totem pole in history of the school, and has inspired multiple ones to follow. the overhead plane is made of white ribbons with colored ends hidden inside the pole, representing lightning, while its brightly lit pole and the painted floor represented rainstorm. At the end of the performance, the white ribbons were pulled up by fly crew thus revealing the hidden colorful ribbons, making the final image resemble a rainbow.

SHERLOCK HOLMES WHERE IT ALL BEGAN 2014 / Art direction & Set design / ArchCU Stu79 Production / Chulalongkorn Auditorium Stage Production for annual public theater.

Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty had always been arch enemies, but where did it all begin? This spin-off explores the relationship and duality of justice and righteousness In my third theater season, I was appointed the set design and art direction role. Our crew kicked off the pre-production by doing research, simultaneously developing the designs, failing and succeeding and learning together.

Our biggest constraint was the limited room of the stage, for it was originally a lecture hall. Our solution was to make the whole set completely mobilized, utilizing all sides of the wheeled set pieces to maximize the variety of scenography and defining new spaces with every different arrangement. In consequence, the movements of the set pieces became the star of the musical numbers itself.

MULAN 2013 / Arch CU Theater Crew Special effects technician & assistant manager

This is my second theater season in my university life, and I had a chance to focus more on complicated tasks in the Special Effects Crew, for example, the animated waterfall made of dry-ice fog. I also got to do managerial tasks for the crew.

2499 2012 / Arch CU Theater Crew Prop making / Special effects operation crew In 1986 Bangkok was a stage for notorious gang wars. 2499 is based on a popular legend of friendship, romance, and juvenile delinquency. My duties in the production include prop making and special effects operation, mainly the theatrical smoke machine, fog machine, and novelty fireworks.

‫חריה שיא‬ ‫המדאה ינפ לע‬ MOON MAN ON EARTH 2018 / Character design / Illustration One day while I was reading a book about the origin of the Sarajevo Haggadah, this image of a moon-like wise man who uses persian cat fur paint brush to create botanical paintings popped up in my head. In the heat and the luscious nature a middle-east inspired land, this scene is the closest to how I imagined an alternate universe of a magical mesopotamian artist trying to make sense of the world.

FISHVERSE 2017 - 2018 / Concept illustration Personal project

What if the world is nothing but the sea itself ? I had always been fascinated with fish, sea creatures, and the marine environment. Heavily inspired by my frequent trips to aquariums and my own pets fish, and times I spent wondering how big their universes are, I tried to create a planet that is run entirely by aquatic life forms.

THE BREAKFAST SONG ANIMATED LYRICS 2016 / Personal project / Animation

An animated lyrics and video for a cheerful song from a Ghibli movie, From Upon the Poppy Hill. Japanese lyrics by Goro Miyazaki and Hiroko Taniyama, Thai translation by me. The story follows a turtle struggling to prepare breakfast for its hatching offspring using human utensils. The process of this video began from translating the Japanese lyrics into Thai, drawing out all the verses with pencil on wax paper, then animating with the stop motion method.

SPIRIT COOKING ANIMATED POETRY 2017 / Personal project / Animation

A video art set to the eerie “recipe” by artist Marina Abramovic. The short animation explores humans’ relationship with a dark place in their heart, here represented by animated pencil sketches on photographs of abandoned houses. The audio was made by recording myself reciting the recipe backwards in a whispery voice, then reverse the audio back in a software. This process was meant to give a “subliminal message” effect.
