CSA Summer Share Week 6

Tangletown Gardens on Plant Pop!

Celebrating the beauty of plants and food.

Enjoy this short film by Charlie Pierson telling a bit of the story of Tangletown Gardens and Wise Acre!

Tangletown Gardens had humble beginnings, starting out in a refurbished oil station and then growing into a staple of the community.

“We're plant geeks by nature. We're creative people by nature. When you put those two together, you end up having magic that's created here.”

Owners Scott and Dean took all of the practices that they learned over the years about growing clean, local produce and applied that knowledge to the greenhouses where they grow everything from trees, to succulents, and of course, the fruits and vegetables you get in your CSA box.

While Tangletown is obviously focused on growing sustainably, they also put an emphasis on growing their plants for the pure beauty of them.

“What we do is try to celebrate the beauty of the plants and the food.”

WELCOME TO 2024 CSA - Week 6

(S) - Small Share, (M) - Medium Share, (L) - Large Share

This key indicates which share sizes get what produce. Different share sizes will often receive different produce. We will vary what goes into the share each week to spread the bounty equitably to all members.

There are times when mother nature puts a kink in our plans, so while we can't guarantee that all of these items will be in your share, you can expect to see most of them and sometimes a few extras.

Simple. Local. Delicious

.

Try this easy to make butter for a great way to use the sage in this weeks CSA. Add to chicken, beef, pasta, vegetables or spread on a fresh slice of bread.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), at room temperature

Butter Recomndation - Rochdale Farms Hand Rolled Butter

2 tablespoons fresh sage leaves, finely chopped

1 clove garlic, minced (optional)

1/2 teaspoon lemon zest (optional)

Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Sage: Wash and thoroughly dry the sage leaves.

Finely chop the sage leaves to release their flavor.

2. Combine Ingredients:

Place room tempoerature butter in a mixing bowl. Add finely-chopped sage leaves. If using, add minced garlic and lemon zest.

3. Season and Mix:

Season with a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper.

Mix everything together until well combined. You can use a spatula or a fork to blend the ingredients.

4. Shape and Chill:

Transfer the sage butter to a piece of plastic wrap or parchment paper.

Shape into a log or a block, and then wrap tightly. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to firm up.

5. Serve:

Once chilled, slice off pieces of the sage butter as needed.

Tips:

For a richer flavor, you can lightly sauté the sage leaves in a bit of butter before mixing them into the main batch. Sage butter can be frozen. Just wrap it tightly and thaw in the refrigerator before use.

Works great for many other herbs like rosemary or chive.
