It’s a new dawn, a new day, and a new captain at the helm of the ship of state. And what a state we’re in!
Inflation, rising interest rates, conflict in Ukraine, climate disaster, culture wars, COVID 19-20-21-22-23, and a looming World War Three… Could things get any worse? Absolutely! Neighbours has finished!
But there is a light on the horizon: The Wharf Revue is back! Inspired by the new national spirit of optimism that lasted for a week, the team are as keen as mustard to once again tackle the big-picture issues.

Side By Side features the emerging compositional voices of Taikoz players Ian Cleworth, Kerryn Joyce, Sophia Ang, Ryuji Hamada and Claudia Wherry, and at its heart, the program is truly a celebration of the remarkable creativity that resides within the ensemble. Sitting side by side their pieces (pun intended!) is the winning composition of Taikoz’s 2020 Women Composers Competition – Tasmaniabased non-taiko playing Karlin Love’s Fierce: The Vengeance Of Joy.
When you read what each composer says about her or his inspiration and thought processes, it’ll come as no surprise that much the music is a direct response to the worldwide pandemic of 2020-21. How could it not? With roots in the insecurities and anxieties of our shared experiences of Covid-19, their music consequently evokes images and feelings of the natural world and a wide gamut of emotions that range through darkness (Shadow Games), longing (Flowing Water) fear vs freedom (Run!), nostalgia and joy (Yasaka), and expectation, growth and new life (Cocoon).

Wonderland Alice in
Alice In Wonderland, adapted by playwright William Glennon, is a play that is so similar in style and sentiment to Lewis Carroll’s original 1865 novel, one might suspect it was written by Carroll himself.
We set the stage for this curious journey, with a group of funny little people seeking out an Alice for her own turn in Wonderland. They entice and enchant the young girl until she can resist no more.
As she falls down the rabbit hole, Alice meets a collection of curious characters who help – and hinder – her along the way. She slowly begins to forget what ‘normal’ is, and falls in love with the wondrously, wonderful place of Wonderland.
Cleverly brought to life by Tamworth Dramatic Society, this ‘made in Tamworth’ production will fill the hearts of all who remember this classic tale. You may actually find yourself asking…“Who is Alice”?

Silence is about the space in between. The conversations not being heard and the responses that are muted. Through the beating of a drum, bodies thrash through frequencies to uncover what lies in the Silence
There’s Silence between the stars as the Emu travels across the night sky. There’s Silence in the dancer’s energy when they hit the cut, the rupture between rhythms and movement where the spirit world can enter. It’s also the deafening Silence under white noise. The same questions echoed through generations.
We have marched across Country. We have had promises made and promises broken. In Silence we pull the unresolved conversations from under the rug and slam them back on the table. Because the conversation about a Treaty will never be silenced.
Suitable for ages 12+
Warning: Water based haze and strobe lighting will be used in this performance. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander audiences are advised that this show references people who have died.
Silence is produced by BlakDance and the national tour has received financial assistance from the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body. The premiere production was co-commissioned in 2020 by BlakDance, HOTA Home of the Arts, City of Gold Coast, Queensland Performing Arts Centre and Brisbane Festival, with support by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body and the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.

Written in the wake of the devastation of the 2019 bush fires it asks: What’s happening to winter? In hot, bushfire-prone Australia our winters are becoming warmer and shorter.
The End of Winter is about loss and resilience. It’s about the places one can search for cold weather —places that can be reached via public transport and the imagination.
Written by multi-award-winning Australian writer Noëlle Janaczewska, the themes and ideas contained within The End of Winter lean into the most significant issue of our time –the changing climate and the loss of seasons.
Through a series of monologues brought to life by Jane Phegan, these beautifully lyrical and intelligent stories, directed by Kate Gaul, will delight audiences who are fans of informative podcasts, documentary lovers, and advocates for action to combat climate change.

Based on the book by Mem Fox and Julie Vivas Adapted by Eva Di Cesare and Sandra Eldridge. Directed by Sandra Eldridge
Mem Fox and Julie Vivas’ beloved picture book Possum Magic has enchanted children for decades and Monkey Baa Theatre Company brings the paper and ink to life on stage once again!
Grandma Poss loves making magic. She makes wombats blue and kookaburras pink. She makes dingoes smile and emus shrink. But one day, when danger arrives in the form of a snake, Grandma uses her most magical spell to make Hush invisible. Hush has many wonderful adventures. But being invisible isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, and Hush longs to see herself again. One problem. Grandma Poss can’t find the spell to make Hush visible again. And then she remembers... this particular magic requires something more, something special, something to do with food...people food. Possum Magic takes us on a whimsical journey to cities around Australia to find the food that makes Hush visible again.
Using a clever, nuanced palette of live action, stage magic, an original soundscape, elements of puppetry and projected animation, Monkey Baa’s award-winning creative team have translated the whimsical world of the book to a live experience for audiences 3–8 years and their families.
