The Chair of the Management & Marketing Department, Dr. Amy C. Lewis's Welcome It has been an exciting semester. The college of business relocated to our new home on the 4th floor of the Central Academic Building at main campus in January, and it’s been wonderful to be more involved with student life and activities. Our student organizations in the college of business are growing in number and involvement. Our newest student organization, Delta Sigma Pi, was just officially recognized by the university, and it joins our other departmental student organizations (the American Marketing Association and the Society for Human Resource Management at A&M-San Antonio chapter). If you are interested in learning more about our student organizations, please contact the faculty mentors: Dr. Sweet and Ms. Siegal (Delta Sigma Pi), Dr. Baruca (American Marketing Association), and Dr. Guardia Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). The University is expanding, and if you want to get involved it is easy to start new student organizations. In addition to the profiles of alumni and current students you will find in this newsletter, our students are being placed in impressive internships at organizations such as Toyota and SAWS. We continue to expand our internships opportunities throughout the department, and are forming new partnerships with organizations. Additionally, students completing HR internships with our non-profit partners are eligible to apply for the HRx experiential scholarship. This semester, 4 students were supported through this $1000 scholarship. You can get more information about the HRx scholarship from Dr. Guardia. Our students are also gaining outside recognition—for instance one of our HR majors, Alina Kaapuwai, won The Art Edgarian / Charles Umscheid Scholarship from the San Antonio Human Resource Management Association (SAHRMA). The university, college, and department continue to grow. Although summer school is more than a month away, we have already increased last summer’s enrollment by almost 20% at the undergraduate level, and over 30% at the graduate level! We are working to add more sections to accommodate this growing demand. For fall, the university is working to accommodate our growth through the addition of new modular classrooms, parking lots, and expanded dining choices. I urge students, alumni, and friends of the department to stay in touch with us, to share their successes, accomplishments, and life events.


Introducing Dr. Mengying He @ A&M-SA How did you arrive at teaching management for Texas A&M University-San Antonio? I would say it is destiny. I saw the job advertisement on the website in March, 2016 that Texas A&M-San Antonio was hiring a visiting assistant professor with focus on health care management and quantitative methods. Both of these are my specialties. I was on track to finish my Ph.D. in Health Services Administration, and statistics happened to be one of my favorite things during my training. In addition, San Antonio actually attracts me. Being a basketball fan especially a Spurs fan for years, San Antonio is always my dream city for work. So, when I got the interview and then the offer from A&M-San Antonio without doubt, I decide to take the job here. What are you most passionate about professionally? My passion in teaching originated from my willingness to help others which really brings me satisfaction and happiness. There was an old saying in Chinese “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.” As a teacher, my philosophy for teaching is not only giving students knowledge, but also the skills that they can adapt and develop to become lifetime learners. Other than teaching, I like to explore new things and I am a lifelong learner where I like to learn about everything, health care has remained my passion. As a researcher, I will continue to work on the empirical evidence to improve our health care system and to help patients in making health care related choices. Where are you from? I was born and raised in Nanjing, China. It is a beautiful city by the Yangtze River and it used to be the capital of China for more than six decades. Growing up in a city with the combination of history and future always made me want to expand my knowledge and horizon. After college, I decided to pursue my Ph.D in Birmingham, Alabama. The coincidence is that my hometown Nanjing and Birmingham share the same latitude, thus they have similar climate pattern. Therefore, I always treat Nanjing as my original home, and Birmingham, Alabama, as my sweet second home.


What were some challenges, difficulties and hardships you had to overcome to reach where you are today? Personally, I have encountered some challenges during my Ph.D training. The reason was that I went straight from my undergraduate degree to Ph.D degree. During my third year in Ph.D training, I lost my uncle to cancer. I believe that at some points in your life time, you get confused and are not sure if this is the way you want to be and you get frustrated about how hard life can be. And for me, this was the time. When you get confused about life, always go back to your original point just like you get lost in a maze, that is always the safest option. I know for sure that helping others makes me happy and teaching is one kind of career that you can help students to become the best version of themselves. In addition, from my uncle’s fight with cancer, I have learned the importance of hospice and palliative care to a patient which helped me develop these as my research interests . Take the sourest lemon that life has to offer and turn it into something resembling lemonade, that leads to who I am today.

What advice do you have for students that might help them achieve their goals? My advice is very simple, that was my motto when I was pursing my dream and passion. First, you need to have a goal. Second, but the most important one, persistence. How do you want to be remembered at Texas A & M University-San Antonio? I just want to do a great job in each class, and each semester. I would rather get an email from a student asking for a letter of recommendation or thanking me for a great semester. I hope to encourage more and more students to dream big and then help them figure out what they need to do to accomplish those dreams.

Cynthia Lee, Office Manager @ College of Business, A&M-SA How did you arrive at College of Business @ Texas A&M University-San Antonio? I worked at the Alamo Colleges for seven years before arriving here at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. I was at the Northeast Lakeview College when a former co-worker (Linda Garza) saw and heard me working and said “You should apply at Texas A&M University-San Antonio”. I said “really?” She said, “Yes, you know your stuff”! I kept checking the website (which at the time was through Kingsville) and a few weeks later a job came up as an Administrative Assistant. I applied and within 2 days I was called in for an interview and the same I was offered the position. I was so excited that I said “Yes!” right away. The administrator that called me said, “You didn’t ask what the salary was.” I was so excited it didn’t even matter! I came in and everyone accepted me with open arms. I started as an academic advisor for the college of business in addition working as an of administrative assistant. Ten years later, I am still here as the office manager in the college of business. What were some challenges, difficulties and hardships you had to overcome to reach where you are today? Like many non-traditional students, I balanced family, work and school. I spent the earlier years of my life working and raising a family. After high school, I spent 19 years working in the newspaper (San Antonio Light) industry as an accountant, then as a data entry operator in the classified section of the paper before moving to the marketing department, which was my last stint before the newspaper closed. I worked as a pharmacy tech, a deputy sheriff and then as a customer service rep at Kinetic Concepts before getting into the education field, where I found my calling. What advice do you have for students that might help them achieve their goals? Never give up. Education is the key, and it will take you places you would not dare to explore. My excuse after my children finished school was that I was too old to start school again. My daughter said, “You are never too old to learn.” So, I started school when I was 47 and graduated when I was 51. I did learn, and I am still learning today. How do you want to be remembered at Texas A & M University-San Antonio? I hope I will be remembered as an individual that contributed to the success of students, faculty and staff as well as someone who was always willing to support whenever called upon. I want to be remembered as the one who made a difference in someone’s life and truly cared about others. I am also proud to say that I am the first African American hired at Texas A&M University-San Antonio.


H-E-B Night Texas A&M University San Antonio The College of Business at Texas A&M University-San Antonio hosted its annual career night sponsored by H-E-B on February 16th. Nearly 250 College of Business students attended the career building workshops with H-E-B representatives. The most talented students were chosen by faculty members to attend a special reception before the event to meet and greet with the H-E-B recruiting team members. Texas A&MSan Antonio thanks H-E-B for a successful evening of student enrichment and opening doors to new career opportunities.


The event was a success as all the students learned so much from the management team at H-E-B and about their business operations and the opportunities H-E-B has for the perspective students of Texas A&M University-San Antonio. H-E-B has a long association with the College of Business at A&M-SA and they believe that the students at A&M-SA have tremendous potential in a organization like H-E-B. The faculty of the College of Business selected 50 of the best business students for a preevent meet and greet with the recruiters of H-E-B followed by the main event and dinner hosted by the College of Business, Texas A&M University-San Antonio. We at the College of Business thank H-E-B for a successful evening of student enrichment and opening doors to new career opportunities


Management & Marketing Jaguars Profiles @ A&M-SA We at Texas A&M University-San Antonio help students to achieve their dreams. The College of Business help students learn about management science and we offer both undergraduate and graduate degrees. These degrees are not only for students with business background but we at Texas A&M University-San Antonio help students from different educational and professional backgrounds to enroll in our College of Business to learn and advance their management skills. This year we are proud to present Christian Watamaleo, Charlotte Gomez, Celeste Vela and Joshua Jaeschke who are attending the College of Business at Texas A&M-San Antonio and experiencing tremendous growth in their management skills. Jaguar - Christian Watamaleo @ A&M-SA Why did you choose to attend A&M-SA? I chose to attend A&M-SA because it is a new minted segment of the highly respected Texas A&M University System; therefore, providing me with an excellent MBA experience. Also, I was looking for a University close to home with a low student-to-teacher ratio (so that I could really engage with my professors), one that provided the flexibility that I needed as a family man and full-time worker, and embraced military veterans such as myself. In the end, I wanted to attended a University that would provide a MBA program that could provide me with content that I could apply to reach my professional goals. What are some of your best memories and who are your favorite Professors at A&M-SA? Some of my best memories at A&M-SA have to be the weekends that I spent with my classmates working on our group papers and presentations for our marketing course. The various experience and backgrounds within the group really provided the diversity and knowledge needed to make group work successful. I feel fortunate to not only call my group mates student peers, but also friends. I am have not taken a lot of core classes yet because my graduate and undergraduate degrees are not in business administration; however, of the courses that I have taken, I would say Dr. Baruca is my favorite professor so far. Dr. Baruca provides a classroom environment that welcomes discussion and requires his students to complete work that is applicable to actual requirements in the real world. One example is the marketing plan our class had to provide for the City of San Antonio. Furthermore, I was able to use the concepts and share the applicable information that I was provided by Dr. Baruca in my current job. What would you like to recommend to the current and future students at A&M-SA? I would recommend to the current students to find a use for all of the information you learning. Although you may or may not be in a marketing position, as an example, you can use the concept of “value” to how you promote you or your coworkers value to the company’s leadership. Seeing the practical application in what we are learning goes a long way and makes topics that one may find dull, a little more interesting. For the future students, I would reach out to someone who is already attending and ask them for their experience. Hopefully, the current student will give the future student a candid answer and guide them in the right direction as a student peer. Your final thoughts and suggestions for A&M-SA? There have been numerous “Ah ha!” moments during the short time I have been a student at A&M-SA. I am very grateful for the opportunity to complete my MBA program. My only suggestion is, as the student population grows, I would eventually like to see entrepreneurial courses/seminars offered to students. These courses/seminars would greatly benefit the student population and the local economy.


Jaguar - Joshua Jeaschke @ A&M-SA Why did you choose to attend A&M-SA? I would be lying if I said that A&M-SA was my first choice when the time came for me to leave SAC. I really wanted to go to Texas State and had already been accepted but as we know, life happens... A&M-SA stood out to me over UTSA because the school seemed to me like it was creating an identity and I wanted to be a part of that; the attractive campus speaks for itself, it speaks to our values. What are some of your best memories at A&M-SA? Without a doubt the ethics bowl that was a challenge, we had a great team & a coach like Professor Mangum that brought us up against huge schools with multiple teams that had years of experience on us. We gave them a run for their money. I hope A&M-SA and its students will continue to participate. There is so much to learn from these functions. What are the biggest challenges you have faced as a student at A&M-SA? The biggest challenge I’ve faced is by far the drive. I work in Universal City from 8-5 and class begins at 5:30. I’m certain a large portion of our student body knows this challenge/struggle but a commute isn’t enough to slow down any of the students I’ve met, and the professors are always very understanding especially if you take evening classes. Who are your favorite professors and why? Nicholas Creel, Matthew Mangum and Andrew Sanders. These professors are passionate about what they teach, what else more could you ask for in an instructor and/or mentor? Professor Creel is always willing to help you out, Professor Mangum has a great way of communicating what he’s teaching so that it is easy to grasp and Dr. Sanders goes out of his way to provide so much extra material on whatever it is you are studying. These guys are awesome, if you can take a class with one or all of them I guarantee you won’t be let down. What would you like to recommend to the current and future students at A&M-SA? To the future students: you have the opportunity to step out of the mold by coming here and making a name for yourself. You’ll be in an intellectually stimulating environment with students and professors that share your passion for whatever it is you study. To current students: I suppose I should be asking you for recommendations, you guys and gals are awesome. Your final thoughts and suggestions for A&M-SA? Keep growing this school! It already has so much to offer already in such a small package, this place is great and will make its mark on San Antonio, and Texas.


Jaguar - Charlotte Gomez @ A&M-SA

Why did you choose to attend A&M-SA? A&M-SA is known as a strong institution here in San Antonio, Texas with its great reputation of producing countless successful individuals and after doing a little research and learning of Texas A&M- San Antonio, its growth, and the opportunities it offers, I felt it was the right place for me to continue my education. Another major factor in my decision was the location and the affordability. Being a college student and having worked in the past, I knew how important it was that my school of choice meet those requirements and A&M-SA did just that.

What are some of your best memories and favorite Professors at A&M-SA? Being a marketing major and being enrolled in the College of Business here at A&MSA, my first semester was spent at the Brooks City-Base campus and it was spent adjusting and focusing on my schoolwork. Starting my second semester at Main campus has been a great experience so far and though I haven’t made too many memories quite yet, every day that I have been at A&M-SA has been a great one and I am really loving the atmosphere on campus. I’m looking forward to my time here! Currently, my favorite professors are Professor Lisa Siegal and Professor Jerome McWilliams. Professor Siegal teaches Principles of Marketing and she makes her class very enjoyable and motivating. I have learned that there is so much more to marketing than what most people think and this is my major, so I am really enjoying this course. Professor McWilliams teaches Accounting for Non-Accounting majors and with this course being my last accounting course, I felt nervous having struggled a bit in prior accounting courses. However, I feel very confident in the class and understand the concepts thanks to his teaching methods. He makes accounting “fun” and not just about the math or crunching numbers. It’s much easier to understand the material when real life examples or situations are put into play. Accounting is one of those subjects that is present in all of our lives whether we realize it or not. They are both fantastic professors and I’m looking forward to the rest of the semester with them. What would you recommend to the students at A&M-SA and your Final Thoughts ? My recommendation to current students at A&M-SA is to stay focused and motivated throughout your time here and to remember that there is a light at the end of the tunnel in regards to your graduation date! Enjoy the campus, professors, and the friends you’ll make. To future students at A&M-SA, network! Make new friends, join organizations and really commit to your major. A&M-SA makes it fun and easy to do so. Have a plan, have fun and enjoy yourselves. My suggestions for A&M-SA is to just continue growing as a university and to keep up the great motivation for your students. Love the fact that A&M-SA is so welcoming! This school is definitely making a mark and I’m very proud to be a part of it. There are plenty of students that would love to attend here and future growth will make that possible.

Why did you choose to attend A&M-SA? The reason that I chose A&M-SA as my final choice to complete my college education was the flexibility the university offers. The student/professor ratio allows the opportunity to build rapport with professors and the faculty and staff at A&M-SA. The alignment between the community college and university enables students to make the transition with no obstacles.

What are some of your best memories at A&M-SA? The best memory I have so far is watching my mother complete her college education and graduating from A&M-SA (System Center at the time). The excitement, motivation and resources she had while attend school gave me confidence and reassurance that the university provided a family atmosphere and everyone at A&M-SA was always willing to lend a helping hand. The success of their students is a priority at A&M-SA. What are the biggest challenges you have faced as a student at A&M-SA? As a full-time student and being employed full-time I have found that time management is my biggest challenge. Ultimately, the responsibility and accountability of my success in school lies solely on myself. I am personally responsible for my own success and I control my destiny and achievements. Who are your favorite professors and why? To date, my favorite professors are Professor Robert Kennison and Professor Ullom. Prof. Kennison offers traditional teaching and merges real life experiences pertaining to management into the classroom. Prof. Ullom has given me a whole new perspective on the business finance world. He continues to challenge me to be the best in my field of choice. What would you like to recommend to the current and future students at A&M-SA? I would absolutely recommend students to be involved in the campus life in general. This will allow students to seek assistance without any hesitation. It is critical to get to know other students on campus, students offer additional resources and are valuable asset to have (they offer experiences, recommendations and study partners). And the most important advise I will give is don’t procrastinate, be consistent, allow yourself study time and your possibilities are endless. Your final thoughts and suggestions for A&M-SA? I would love to see more partnerships with business and companies to offer internships locally, out of state, and abroad.

Marketing San Antonio to the World By SHRM @ A&M -SA Behind the deal (Marketing San Antonio to the World) was an event organized by SHRM @ Texas A&M - San Antonio where the speakers discussed the potential of the City of San Antonio and the kind of foreign investments the city has been getting is tremendous.These Investments bring great potential to the city of San Antonio and to the overall economy of the United States. Some of the major topics which have been covered by the presenters was the Brooks city-base and the recently acquired contract and how it changes the potential of the city. The key factor behind this development was the EB-5 visa which will give investors the chance to be part of the country like the United States by investing in the shares of certain companies in the city of San Antonio. The speakers also discussed that Texas state is among the top states in the United States for foreign investments and the way these San Antonio Economic Development Foundation (SAEDF) and Free Trade Alliance San Antonio are marketing the city will definitely bring more foreign investments in the near future. Free Trade Alliance San Antonio is narrowing its concentration to a gathering of valuable businesses and nations that offer the Alamo City the best potential in monetary progress. We at College of Business really appreciate the efforts of Dr. Adrian Guardia and SHRM @ A&M-SA for organizing such an informative event.

Marketing San Antonio to the World By SHRM @ A&M-SA There were several key factors in the seminar, Jenna Saucedo-Herrera, the President of San Antonio Economic Development Foundation (SAEDF) explained about their trip to Japan and explained the investment potential of foreign companies in San Antonio and how they are trying to bring more and more companies to do investments in the city of San Antonio. The President of the Free Trade Alliance San Antonio explained that they will take a look at enterprises that fit their criteria. They need to ensure that whatever organizations come to San Antonio will have the workforce to strengthen them. Their technique will be to ensure that when they look at the nations their enterprises adjust to their own. The list of industries that Free Trade will focus on moving forward include health care and the biosciences, aerospace, IT/Cyber security, automotive and energy".

Marketing San Antonio to the World By SHRM @ A&M-SA Jenna Saucedo-Herrera joined the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation (SAEDF) as president and chief executive officer in July 2016. She is responsible for advancing the diversification and growth of the San Antonio regional economy through domestic and international business development, partnerships and market strategies. She also works in close partnership with the San Antonio Works board and executive team, an organizational component of the broader SAEDF operation. Before joining SAEDF, Saucedo-Herrera served as Vice President of Public Affairs and Brand Management for CPS Energy where she led the economic development, corporate communications, marketing and corporate responsibility functions for the organization Leo Gomez, is President and Chief Executive Officer, for the executive leadership of Brooks City Base (BCB) and the Brooks Community Foundation, Inc. Mr. Gomez works closely with the Board of Directors and Brooks staff to establish long-range strategic plans and policies to facilitate the redevelopment of Brooks. Before joining Brooks, Mr. Gomez held the position of Vice President of Public and Government Affairs for Spurs Sports & Entertainment (SS&E), beginning in 1996. He left SS&E for two years to serve as General Manager of Administration with Toyota Manufacturing, Texas before returning to SS&E in 2005 Jose E. Martinez is President & CEO of Free Trade Alliance San Antonio. Free Trade Alliance San Antonio is a public/private membership organization focused on establishing San Antonio as an international business center. The Alliance also impacts the local economy by attracting foreign companies to locate business in San Antonio through the International Business Development Center (IBDC). Additionally, the Alliance advocates on trade-related laws, policies and issues important to the region’s international business community and is committed to preparing students to work in all aspects of international business through various student programs. Dr. Kathleen Welsh Voges, is a Professor of Management at Texas A&M San Antonio. She holds an undergraduate degree in Accounting, an MBA; and a Ph.D. with a major in strategic management and minor in international business. She has over 20 years of experience as an upper level administrator in higher education; her responsibilities included contract development, negotiation and administration. She is published in both United States and international journals. Her current research agenda is the study of institutional drivers of market orientation in small and medium size businesses in transition economies with a current focus on the Romanian wine industry.


International Student Cultural Celebration - A&M-SA This year the office of International Affairs at Texas A&M University San Antonio celebrated international student cultural celebration day. The event was attended by more than 250 students and all of them interacted with each other and shared their cultural values and traditions. This year we have students from countries such as India, Angola, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Saudia Arabia, the Philippines, Great Britain and Mexico. All these students met at Senator Madla Building and celebrated the cultural day with everyone. We at the College of Business would like to thank the Office of International Affairs for hosting such an interactive event and helping students to learn more about different cultures.


International Student Cultural Celebration A&M-SA One of the major themes of the Cultural Celebration day was Diwali. Diwali is known as the festival of lights. It spiritually signi ies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair. Its celebration includes millions of lights shining on housetops, outside doors and windows. This year the o ice of International A fairs collaborated with the international student organization the Diwali celebration and explained to all the attendees what was the signi icance of Diwali and why people celebrate Diwali. It was very informative event and all the students loved the colors, lights, and delicious sweets which were organized by Texas A&M University-San Antonio.


International Student Diversity Management & Marketing Department @ A&M-SA The Marketing and Management Department at College of Business is proud to announce that this year we have several international students from countries such as India, the Philippines, Cuba, Angola, Bangladesh and the Great Britain. Texas A&M University-San Antonio embraces cultural diversity which brings the understanding of different societies, traditions and corporate cultures. We at Texas A&M University-San Antonio believe that management is not just about learning business techniques but also having the exposure to different cultures in order to understand their perspectives and having more and more international students has brought great cultural diversity in the College of Business.


College of Business Jaguar @ South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce Christopher Castro’s time here at Texas A&M-SA has been memorable in many ways. When Christopher Castro enrolled in his first semester, he didn’t know what to expect from the whole University experience. To get acquainted to the University environment, Chris began to network with fellow students and professors as well. Networking played a huge role for Chris when it came to an internship. It was possible to establish this next step in his education career by asking questions and staying in touch with his professors. With the tools from his personal life and his former positions in the banking sector; Chris showed a lot of promise. From a suggestion from one of the peers in his network, Chris considered his internship opportunities, and possibility to help him achieve and expand his resume depth for future employment once graduated. Chris’s internship is with the South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. Working at the Chamber has been an amazing experience for him. Chris has broadened his network, and his insight on some of the current city events. Even though Chris’s major is in finance, the South Chamber of Commerce helped him develop more than just financing skills.


Success Stories - Management & Marketing Jaguars " Success doesn't just come and find you, one has to go out and get it" We at the College of Business at Texas A&M University-San Antonio prepare students for successful careers in business and enhance their job placement potential with a bachelor’s or master’s degree. The low student-to teacher ratio and experienced faculty provide for a more personal learning environment that is designed to help students succeed. This year we are proud to share some of our students success stories, these students, Blaine Beckman, Miguel Caballaro, Danielle Landeros and Joel Farias have achieved their dreams by working very hard at the College of Business at Texas A&M University-San Antonio and give the share of their success to the faculty of College of Business to make their dreams come true.

Alumnus Profile - Blaine Beckman @ F.A. Nunnelly I serve as Vice President of Operations for a commercial construction company by the name of F.A. Nunnelly General Contractor. F.A. Nunnelly is a 95 year old San Antonio based company that has a diversified portfolio of projects including public, private, healthcare, educational, and even some light industrial. I began my construction career in San Diego, California as a residential framer and worked my way over the last 15 years. In 2006 I was relocated to Texas to help open an office in San Antonio, yet the economy had other plans in store. The company I worked for based in California was unable to weather the recession and in the end of 2006 I transitioned from residential construction to commercial construction. I was trained in the field to operate as a commercial superintendent and continued to hold that title for the following 6 years. As a superintendent it was my responsibility to manage critical relationships between the owners, design teams, and our subcontractors, all while overseeing the construction of each one of my projects. Quality control, safety, scheduling, and field coordination of the trades were some of the responsibilities I carried as a Project Superintendent. In 2013 I was hired by F.A. Nunnelly and due to my field experience along with my continued education in business at Texas A&M-San Antonio, within six months was promoted to Project Manager. As a Project Manager my responsibilities changed from focusing on one project to overseeing a combination of two to three projects which at times could range in total from $15,000,000 to $20,000,000. As a project manager you must continue to maintain relationships between all parties and instead of dealing with day to day field activities, you are more focused on the financial and contractual side of the project. I would manage the procurement of subcontracts, control project budgets, control schedule, support all team members in the field, and basically anything within my power to ensure a project is turned over on time, in budget,and is built with the highest level of quality. You are held by a project owner as the responsible team member when it comes to anything that happens on their project good or bad. Due to project success, a hunger for personal growth, and my love for the team members I worked with on a daily basis, in 2016 I was promoted to the position of VP of Operations. I am now involved in the strategic planning and decision making of where F.A. Nunnelly will be headed in the short term as well as the long term. I oversee all of our operations and work closely with our pre-construction, project teams, and accounting department to make sure that all organizational teams know that our organization is here to support them in their project team’s success. Additional responsibilities include business development, operational budgets, implementation of new policies and operating procedures, and ensuring clients are satisfied with company performance, etc. In addition to my role within F.A. Nunnelly, I find it imperative to stay heavily involved in support of my industry and in our community. I serve on numerous committees that focus on community service and am currently Vice President of the Board of Directors for the


San Antonio Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). In addition to my industry and community activities, my hobbies that keep me sane are surfing (when I am near an ocean, lol) and I am involved in music as the lead singer for a modern rock band by the name of Our Waking Hour which music can be found on iTunes. While staying involved is demanding, nothing means more to me than the most important part of my life which is my family. I have an amazing supportive wife named Mimi, an adorable 2 year old by the name of Citizen, and a new baby girl due July 4th. I would tell you her name, but I am not allowed to yet lol. How A&M-SA has prepared you for you Job and what are your future plans? There has never been a doubt in my mind that the pursuit and completion of higher education was a must. I could not tell you the amount of times I heard the phrase “if only you had your degree” in interviews. The entire time that I challenged myself to learn and grow in the construction field, I continued my growth in education and completed my undergrad in Business Administration and will graduate this summer with my MBA in hand. I attended both degrees programs at A&M-SA. Texas A&M-San Antonio provided the flexible schedule of hyflex and hybrid courses that allowed me to pursue all of my dreams at the same time. Our university has truly made it a priority to employ quality professors that are not only driven to teach but also to push individuals to strive for success. I truly apply teachings from my undergrad and master’s program daily. From business principles taught by Professor Carter, accounting practices by Professor Salinas, HR by Dr. Guardia and Dr. Waggoner, and marketing by Dr. Baruca. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit and A&M-SA has provided me with the tools and confidence to want to own and run my own business. Whether it be to gain ownership in the organization I currently work for or to start my own firm, I find it a true privilege to have the opportunity to chase after the “American Dream”. What would you recommend to the current A&M-SA students? It is imperative to take school seriously and get involved in the community immediately. Once you know the industry you want to work in, find an organization that is related and inquire on how to become involved. A&M-SA will provide you with the credentials you need, but it will be up to you to meet the right people. In this day and age it is truly a game of who you know in combination with how you perform. Market yourself and understand that the way you carry yourself in public and how your social media portrays you is how you will be seen by a future employer. I have always found success in staying involved on Linked-In. It is a great tool for exposing your resume to the business community. What your colleagues think about A&M-SA and Any recommendations for A&M-SA? Everyone that I come in contact with within my organization recognizes A&M-SA as one of the top Universities in our area and identify the value in the name and in the education provided. Many of my discussions have led to my colleagues signing back up to complete their higher education. I would only have one advice for A&M-SA and that would be to continue on the current path of building future leaders. Our campus is still in its infancy compared to where it is headed. I have no doubt that as years go by my Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Business will continue to not only maintain value but will grow in value.


Alumna Profile - Danielle Landeros @ A&C Products A & C Products is a manufacturing company in the aviation industry. My role with the company is the Office Manager. In this role, I multitask and provide a variety of functions. I perform human resources tasks like applicant screening, on boarding processes and training. I also enroll employees in benefits during open enrollment. Alternately, I am also responsible for external customers and ensuring a quality product is provided in a timely manner. I have the opportunity to also participate in contract submittals that have the potential to lead to business. For our community, I have had the pleasure of facilitating community outreach events including food drives and a Secret Santa Event where we partnered with San Antonio College and met the needs of several families during the holiday season. How A&M-SA has prepared you for Job and what are your future plans? A&M-SA has prepared me for more than a job; it has equipped me for a career. I have practical knowledge of the business field because of my many years at A & C Products but A&M-SA has given me the training necessary to take that knowledge and be an effective leader in any industry. My future plans are to continue growing as a professional. After graduation, I plan to concentrate on obtaining the PHR certification. I want to forever be learning and stay up to date with the current business environment and have plans to continue my education, though I have not yet decided which path to take, I plan to make and most journey there. What would you recommend to the current A&M-SA students? I would recommend to A&M-SA students to make the most of time spent in the classroom. Education is an investment and the only to capitalize on the investment is to be an active participant in each class and be willing to bring something to the table each day. I know what it is like to work 40 hours a week and balance family needs and then make time to come to class and the temptation is to just get by but that would not be making the most of time away from family so suggest participation and active listening to lectures and student feedback. What your colleagues think about A&M-SA and any recommendations for A&M-SA? My colleagues are impressed by A&M-SA as a whole. I have relayed my experiences and the general feedback is that it is an exceptional opportunity for higher education at a reasonable cost. My only recommendations for A&M-SA would be to continue to grow the Alumni Affairs program. I had the chance to volunteer recently with this department and look forward to the next opportunity.


Alumnus Profile - Miguel Caballero @ Samsung I am a Procurement Specialist II at Samsung Austin Semiconductor. My primary role can be separated into three sections: Raw Material Purchasing, Supplier Management, and Risk Management. In Raw Material Purchasing the end goal is to purchase raw materials to sustain production. In addition, under Raw Material Purchasing, we have to monitor orders to ensure that orders successfully arrive. In order for me to ensure that orders arrive without fail, we have to proactively address any material shortages that may arise, so we work with other departments who assist us in developing a forecast and we proactively engage any risk . For example, we have a lot of international shipments, and because materials are sourced internationally, we are heavily dependent on favorable weather conditions to ensure orders arrive in a timely manner. In addition to favorable weather conditions, another risk is the current state of our ports, because if there is a port strike, it can have severe repercussions to our supply chain. Therefore, it is my goal to come up with contingency plans and have redundant systems in place within our suppliers so that if there is a disturbance internationally or domestically, they can produce from another site that is not impacted by adverse weather conditions or strikes. Within Supplier Management, we ensure that our supplier is able to meet our demands, and ensure that they keep up with their internal objectives to be able to deliver on their promises. This includes at times to audit their location, and audit their practices to ensure there aren’t any bad practices going on that can impact our orders or the stability of the supplier. Risk Management is primarily being proactive on any material shortages that may occur and the developing of contingency plans to make sure that our supply chain remains uninterrupted and our deliveries continue without fail. In addition, when there are new suppliers that are going to be brought in, we have to assist in vetting the new supplier and ensuring their practices are to a high standard and evaluate their internal systems and see what their backup plans are in the event their site faces a catastrophic event. How A&M-SA has prepared you for your Job/Designation? It’s very funny because my first experience with the SAP system was with A&M-SA. I had no prior experience to SAP until I took classes in A&M-SA that had activities in SAP. Today, I use SAP on a daily basis and I feel like the learning curve would’ve been steeper if it wasn’t for the exposure I got in SAP during my time in A&M-SA.


What kind of strengths and weakness A&M-SA have in the job market? A&M-SA being part of the A&M- SA network is a huge advantage. There are a lot of coworkers of mine that are currently part of the A&M-SA network within Samsung Austin Semiconductor. Their MBA program is a huge strength with its courses that are offered in either Hybrid and HyFlex styles. However, one weakness is that while A&M-SA being part of the A&M-SA network helps it greatly with its reputation, we need to work together to spread the word of how great of a program this is! Being part of the network helps it’s name recognition, but I want for A&M-SA to be recognized alone for it’s program. What are your future plans? My future plans are to remain in the Austin area and grow my career within Samsung Austin Semiconductor. My career goals are to move up in the management ladder. Specifically, my hopes are to be promoted to Senior Procurement Specialist within two years and hopefully move up to Supervisor within five years. My ultimate goal is to hopefully one day become an executive within Samsung Austin Semiconductor. What would you recommend to the current A&M-SA students? My recommendation would be to keep with it and don’t give up! I’ve met a lot of my fellow students throughout my time at A&M-SA and they have been an inspiration to me. They are working full-time, raising a family, and taking a full course load. Sometimes, with the workload, it can get a little overwhelming but what keeps me going forward is knowing that in the end it will be all worth it. My current supervisor and manager have told me how much of an advantage it is that I’m getting an MBA. When I first mentioned to my supervisor that I was getting my MBA, my supervisor jokingly said, “Maybe in the next couple of years I’d be reporting to you!” What your colleagues has to say about A&M-SA? My colleagues are very interested in A&M-SA because they ask me how I am able to take classes in A&M-SA when I am living and working in the Austin area. A&M-SA with its Hybrid and HyFlex classes, gives students like me the opportunity to continue my education while working towards my career goals. The flexibility that comes from the courses and professors is a tremendous advantage and it’s recognized with my coworkers who are currently looking to enroll within A&M-SA. Any recommendations for A&M-SA? My only recommendation for A&M-SA is to continue doing what they are doing! Their MBA program is amazing and I see only the brightest future for this program. I feel like A&M-SA, while also a relatively new college, once people find out about A&M-SA and are able to experience it, they will know that this is an amazing program.


Alumnus Profile - Joel Farias @ USAA I am currently a software developer at USAA where I serve as a Quality Assurance Lead on two different project teams. My responsibilities are to manage and lead a group of third party QA engineers that are located in Mexico, and India. I work closely with other Business managers on identifying all possible scenarios that need to be successfully completed to satisfy the basic business requirements. Another responsibility of mine is to identify and develop scenarios that are intentionally designed to break the systems functionality. Once my team and I have recognized the possible defects or bugs if you will in the code. I then work with other front and back-end developers to design and retest all possible fixes. This process is repeated over with every new piece of functionality that is designed and developed. Once a product finished my role turns to release lead. At stage of the process I’m responsible for regression testing our new code hasn’t introduce any defects into production. After I meet with other department such as security, performance, and accessibility I can then provide QA signoff on the project code. My job is just one small part of what actually goes into software development. It requires a very high level of communication but mostly it requires amazing team work. With the industry growing faster every year we are required speed up the process developing new products to our customers, but not if it means to sacrifice the quality How A&M-SA has prepared you for you Job/Designation? The only reason I have this job because I decided to go and pursue a higher education at Texas A&M-San Antonio. And if it wasn't for my time at Texas A&M-San Antonio I wouldn't have as successful as I am at USAA. In my undergrad I learned many important skill sets that are required any professional work environment. I believe this is a results of the faculty mixing and real world problems into the assignments they gave and also examples of their personal experience when they worked in their fields. I will never forget the very first class I took was with Dr. Jenkins business Communications, and how one of our lessons was how to properly compose an email. I thought to myself honestly what kind of job am I ever going to get that will require me to care so much about the formatting of my email. Well I can tell you my position at USAA requires me to compose hundreds of the emails per week, all in which need to communicate clearly and quickly all information in response to my project's status. What kind of strengths and weakness A&M-SA have in the job market? I believe one of the biggest strength at A&M-San Antonio is the students. I think the students that attend A&M-SA are different breed of students. All of the students that I have met are all working professionals and are devoted to achieving a higher education. Texas A&M-San Antonio students are hard-working ambitious creative and most of all intelligent. But I think one of the weaknesses has is A&M-SA That we're not that nationally-known yet. There has been a lot of times when I messed where I went to school and I say proudly I went to Texas A&M- San Antonio. It never fails to happen but someone always says A&M-San Antonio. I didn't know San Antonio had an A&M University. I always tell them the same thing "well now you know and trust me there is more of us." What are your future plans? I'm currently enrolled at A&M-SA pursuing my MBA. I figured if a bachelor's degree can get me to where I am today I want to see where a master's degree will get me. I never had any other plans to go anywhere but back to A&M-San Antonio. A&M-SA has given me the opportunity to be the person I am today and have the career that I have. I think our school's motto suits me perfectly where dreams become reality. What would you recommend to the current A&M-SA students? Is important that you spend your time at A&M-SA responsibly. Group yourself with other successful students who are all devoted to success. I believe success is contagious and if you surround yourself by it you will be successful. Also take advantage of the small classes and make relationships with fellow students and professors. But the most important thing I can tell you doesn't come from me, but from my favorite inspirational quotes. Written by Confucius it says "believe to achieve the first step to success is believing, he who says he can and he who says he can't both usually right". A&M-SA will prepare you for your journey but you must walk it. What your colleagues has to say about A&M-SA Many of the people I work with are all very familiar with the quality of students coming out of A&M-SA. I was actually recruited by USAA from a career fair held at A&M-SA. The more I work with other departments,I'm also encountering more and more fellow Jaguars at USAA. I also encourage my colleagues who are thinking about pursuing a higher education to consider A&M-San Antonio as their choice. It doesn't take much convincing once they see the flexible Schedule Plus the fact that you don't have to buy books because of the E-Book program. Any recommendations for A&M-SA? The only recommendation I have A&M-SA is to continue producing highly qualified students and send them out into the world. After all like I said, I believe this is our biggest strength and how everyone will see the quality education you will receive at A&M-SA.


American Marketing Association @ A&M-SA Management & Marketing Jaguars AMA Louisiana Trip

The American Marketing Association at Texas A&M University-San Antonio sent eight members to the AMA International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana. If anyone is considering joining AMA club and going to such conferences, there are plenty of reasons to join AMA. According to the members of AMA, the first day of the conference was spectacular. There were informational seminars hosted that spotlighted high-end executives from several companies who answered questions and shared their stories of success. There were also exhibits put together by the students that each attendee could vote on as well as a t-shirt designing competition. The speakers that came were incredibly insightful as well. The first speaker had to be the one that stood out most to them because he shared his stories of success and stories of failure and how they came out of it and how failure has made them more humble. Also, there were several fun competitions as well such as marketing focused competitions and marketing research seminar. They also met with several other collegiate AMA chapter presidents and exchanged information to see how AMA at A&M-SA can improve their club and grow it to its full potential. The A&M-SA chapter of AMA plans on using the knowledge that they gained from attending this year's ICC to improve and prepare for next year in terms of every competition.


American Marketing Association @ A&M-SA Management & Marketing Jaguars AMA Louisiana Trip

One of the biggest competitions that AMA chapters could compete in was a large case study about EBay. Texas State University won this competition and AMA members at A&M-SA are planning to meet with them to discuss their strategy and approach. It was an experience of a lifetime for them to be able to connect with fellow collegiate chapters as well as marketing professionals at the International Intercollegiate Conference. The AMA members at A&M-SA would suggest that anyone who will attend this conference and  who is about to graduate would benefit immensely. They themselves, connected with TEKSystems and AFLAC and learned about internship opportunities. These opportunities are not only available in San Antonio, but all over the United States. This conference is an advantage to anyone and everyone. There were so much opportunities for learning and growth, not only in the marketing field, but also for our collegiate chapters.


American Marketing Association @ A&M-SA Management & Marketing Jaguars AMA Louisiana Trip

Jill Rumbo is the President of the Texas A&M University-San Antonio chapter of the American Marketing Association. She graduated from Northwest Vista College with an Associates degree in Business before pursuing her Bachelor's in Marketing from Texas A&M University-San Antonio. She is currently a senior and will graduate in Fall 2017. She plans to work toward a career in marketing after gaining some experience with a sales internship, as well as digital marketing with a student worker position.

Build Your Brand - BUAD 3191 @ Management & Marketing Department Marolyn Stubblefield is an Adjunct Instructor teaching Jag Tracks III Business, Business Communication and Principles of Management . She graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a BA in Sociology and Psychology, a MA in Counseling Psychology, and work toward a PhD in Community Psychology. She also earned a MBA in Management from Our Lady of the Lake University. She has held professional positions in the public, private and nonprofit sectors. A committed community volunteer, she has served as the Founding President of the SA 100, as Secretary and Regional Board Member for the Children's Hospital of SA, and as Vice President of the AACOG Senior Advisory Council.


Management & Marketing Staff @ A&M-SA Dr. Tracy Hurley is the Dean of the College of Business and was a founding member of the Texas A&M University-San Antonio faculty when the campus opened in the Fall of 2000. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Houston in 1991, and holds the rank of Professor of Management. Additionally, she has been instrumental in university leadership, serving as Interim Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs from 2011-2015. She has overseen dramatic growth in the College of Business and also received numerous federal & state grants for curricular innovations & programs that have been successfully implemented Betsabé Cantero is a student assistant at College of Business and currently pursuing her Undergraduate degree. She attended San Antonio College where she earned her associates degree in business administration. She is a senior in the college of business at A&M-SA where she has been assisting Cynthia Lee and the faculty members. As a first generation student, she juggles between working at H&R Block as a tax associate, and volunteering at The Light of the Word Church . After graduation she has plans to pursue her graduate degree.. Paula Garcia is a Graduate Advisor at College of Business and holds a Master of Education degree majoring in Adult Education from Texas A&M University-Kingsville. She has been working within the higher education environment for more than 15 years in various capacities assisting students in reaching their academic goals. Her latest assignment is in the College of Businessat Texas A&M University-San Antonio fulfilling the role of Academic Advisor for graduate business students pursuing the Master of Business Administration (MBA) or the Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) degree Mary Garcia is the College of Business Administrative Assistant. She joined in COB October 2014 as a temp worker and was permanently hired March 2015. She was excited to celebrate 1 year with the COB. She has university work experience from Trinity University’s Vice President and President’s office areas. She was also the Office/Business Manager for Our Lady of the Lake University. Before that she worked in public school settings moving into Accounting and Budget realm. Cynthia M. Lee is the Office Manager in the College of Business. She holds a BAAS (Bachelor of Applied Arts and Science) degree with emphasis on Psychology and Criminology. She comes to us from Alamo Colleges where she worked for seven years as a Student Specialist before starting her career at Texas A&M University-San Antonio in 2007. She started at the portables at Palo Alto College where she worked as the academic advisor and administrative assistant. In 2008 she worked dual roles as the administrative assistant for both the College of Business and the College of Arts and Sciences. She brings over 20 years of experience in the education setting. Ursula Vaughan acts as the Program Specialist for the E-Book Program at A&M-SA. She holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Eastern Michigan University and is working on her MBA in CIS. She has over 13 years of experience in the IT field, along with 10 years of creative and graphic design experience. As a Michigan native, she started with A&M-SA five years ago as a student worker, graduate assistant, and later an Instructional Technologist before coming to the College of Business as the E-Book Program Specialist


Management & Marketing Faculty @ A&M-SA Dr. Arne Baruca received his PhD in Business Administration with a Marketing concentration from the University of Texas - Pan American. Prior to his academic career he has worked internationally for almost 10 years in several industries including banking and automotive. The experience he gained during those years is an invaluable source of real-life examples that he provides to students to help them relate the theoretical concepts with practice. He believes a true educator is someone who not only passes his expertise to students during class time, but also someone who touches students on a personal level and finds and ignites their potential and enthusiasm. Douglas Carter has a B.A. in Communication Theory and Cross-Cultural Communications from The Ohio State University: as well as, an M.B.A. in International Business from National University and currently pursuing his Doctorate in Business Administration at the University of South Florida. Currently employed at Texas A&M University-San Antonio as an Assistant Professional Track in the College of Business, Douglas was formerly the Associate Vice President for External Affairs& Global Partnerships and TEES (Texas Engineering Experimental Station) Division Head at A&M-San Antonio. Dr. Sandra W. DeGrassi received her BBA in Finance from The University of Texas-Austin, and her PhD in Management from Texas A&M University in College Station. She teaches Human Resource Management courses in the College of Business. Her research interests include ethics, recruitment, selection, and teams. She has presented at management conferences and has been published in top journals such as the Journal of Applied Psychology and the Journal of Organizational Behavior. Her industry experience includes working as an accountant for oil and gas companies such as ExxonMobil and Apache Oil. Dr. Weixing Ford earned her PhD in marketing from the University of Houston, receiving the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence. Her research interests cover various topics which investigate the subconscious mechanisms that impact consumers’ judgment and decision-making. Her research has been published/presented on peer reviewed journals/conferences. Dr. Ford has gained rich experience and in-depth understanding of the corporate world through her successful consulting experience prior to her completion of her doctorate degree. Dr. Ford is also the recipient of teaching excellence awards at both the university and the national levels Dr. Adrian B. Guardia, SHRM-SCP, SPHR is an Associate Professional specializing in human resource management for the College of Business. Dr. Guardia received his PhD and MBA from Our Lady of the Lake University, and BBA from St. Mary's University. He is the lead faculty for the development of curriculum and instruction in the HRM concentration for undergraduate & MBA programs. Dr. Guardia is the founder & faculty advisor for SHRM@A&M-SA, and principal instructor for the HR Certification Study Course at A&M-San Antonio. He is a recipient of Texas A&M University’s “Faculty Excellence in Teaching” award. Dr. Guardia, a native of San Antonio, has over 40 years of HRM experience. Dr. Daniel A. Glaser-Segura,Associate Professor of Management at Texas A&M University–San Antonio,is the former Director of the Office of International Education at Texas A&M University – San Antonio and was responsible for founding the international program at A&M-SA, as well as, leading numerous study trips for students and faculty at A&M-SA and Our Lady of the Lake University. Prior to his academic experience, Dr Glaser-Segura worked in Argentina, Mexico, and the USA. Dr. GlaserSegura has conducted research in the field of international supply chain management and was awarded three Fulbright Scholarships to teach in Romania. He taught at Universitatea Babeş Bolyai, Academia de Studii Economice, and Universitatea Ioan Cuza and also taught at other institutions of higher education on other occasions.


Management & Marketing Faculty @ A&M-SA Dr. Mengying He is a Visiting Assistant Professor of College of Business at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. She received her PhD in Health Services Administration from University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Her research interests include long-term care policy, hospital strategy adoption and performance, and quality of health care services. She also shows interests in quantitative methods where statistics can be used as tools to understand research hypothesis in health care management field. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate level courses related to Health Care Management and Quantitative Methods/Business Statistics. Richard Jenkins graduated from Texas A&M University–College Station with a B.A. English in 1964. He also did graduate studies towards an MFA Dramatic Arts at Trinity University, San Antonio, which led to a sevenyear career in various avenues of professional theatre. He also holds M.A. in English from the University of Texas at San Antonio. His teaching career started in August 2000 at Palo Alto College which is now Texas A&M University-San Antonio, with expertise in literature courses, and Business Communication, He continue to this day training students in this discipline at this location, and pleased to be an educator in this growing institution! Dr. Gary Krause earned his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin. He has worked as a programmer, contractor to the Department of defense advising on the acquisition of software, as manager of a software development group, program manager, and quality manager including the creation and sustainment of an ISO9001 certified quality system. He has over twenty years teaching experience in math, computer science and business departments. Dr. Amy C. Lewis is the Chair of the Management and Marketing department, and joined the faculty as an Associate Professor of Management in 2015. She completed her Ph.D. at Indiana University —Bloomington in 2000 and has previous faculty experience from the University of Utah and Drury University. Her research has been published in journals such as Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, The Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, and the Journal of Management Education. Her teaching interests include Organizational Behavior, Teams, Negotiation, Motivation, and Statistics. Dr. Chin-Yen Alice Liu earned her Ph.D from Texas Tech University and is an Assistant Professor @ College of Business at A&M–San Antonio. Her research interests include the areas of energy policy, operations research, data envelopment analysis, quantitative method, and higher education performance. Dr. Liu has presented and published many papers in professional conferences and received many outstanding and/or best paper awards. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses related to Quantitative Methods, Business Statistics, Management Science, Quality Control, and Income Tax. Dr. Leonard Love is currently an Associate Professor of Strategic Management at Texas A & M University–San Antonio, where he has been a faculty member since August, 2011. Prior to Texas A & M–San Antonio, he taught at The University of Houston – Clear Lake, and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. His primary research interests are in Strategic Management, Entrepreneurship, Business Ethics, International Business, and Top Management Team Cognitions and Decision-Making. Professor Love received his doctoral degree from the University of Texas at Arlington, and has published research in The Journal of Business and Entrepreneurship, The Asia-Pacific Journal of Management, and The Journal of Management.


Management & Marketing Faculty @ A&M-SA Butch Miller has 31 years experience in the Fire and EMS services. He has worked as a firefighter, Company Officer and Chief Officer for various agencies in California, Nevada and Texas. He holds a MPA from the University of Texas at Arlington., BS in Fire Administration, BA in Journalism and Business Admin. He also hold graduate certificates in certified Advanced Project Manger from Stanford University, Homeland Security and Emergency Management from TAMU and Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation from Abilene Christian University. He has also taught for Austin Community College. National Fire Academy and the National Interagency Fire center Enrique G. Ramirez graduated from Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University with a Masters in Management. Henry completed his undergraduate studies at The University of Texas in Austin where he obtained his BS in Mechanical Engineering. He has taught Management courses at Universities since 2004. Prior to becoming a University Instructor, Ramirez worked for a major US global corporation for 37 years. It is these real world global business experiences that enhance the value of the courses he teaches. Ramirez, a South Texas native, has taught at A&M-SA since 2009. Dr. Kenneth Sweet joined the faculty of Texas A&M University–San Antonio in 2016 as an assistant professor of human resource management. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Management from the C.T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston. Dr. Sweet brings more than 20 years of military experience to the classroom as a member of the U.S. Army and Texas Army National Guard. He currently serves as an Information Operations officer in the 71st Theater IO Group at Camp Mabry, TX. Lisa Siegal holds an M.B.A in Marketing from New York University’s Stern School of Business. She began her teaching career in 2006 and has been a Lecturer in the College of Business at Texas A&M University-San Antonio since 2009. She teaches. Prior to teaching full time, Lisa worked in account management with various advertising agencies in New York City and Los Angeles. She also worked in Sales, for AT&T and as a Realtor in residential real estate. She is active in the A.M.A. (American Marketing Association) San Antonio chapter and is the Faculty Advisor for the student chapter of the A.M.A Dr. Josephine (Josie) Sosa-Fey is a Professor of Management and has been the University’s Director of Graduate Studies and Research since 2012. She holds a BA in Management, an MBA, and a DBA with a major in management. Her doctoral dissertation on leadership and cultural values made ProQuest’s 2002 Top 10 Best Seller List. She was co-Chair of the Southwest Teaching and Learning Conference and Inaugural Editor-in-Chief of the Southwest Teaching and Learning Journal from 2011-2014. Her current research agenda includes the study of emotional intelligence as a predictor of success in the workplace. She has served as the University’s Chief Research Officer, Institutional Review Board Chair, Research Compliance Official, Authorized Organizational Representative for sponsored programs, and Graduate Council Chair since 2012. Dr. Kathleen Welsh Voges, is a Professor of Management at Texas A&M-San Antonio. She holds an undergraduate degree in Accounting, an MBA; and a Ph.D. with a major in strategic management and minor in international business. She has over 20 years of experience as an upper level administrator in higher education; her responsibilities included contract development, negotiation and administration. She is published in both United States and international journals. Her current research agenda is the study of institutional drivers of market orientation in small and medium size businesses in transition economies with a current focus on the Romanian wine industry.
