Aimé CESAIRE : 100 ans déjà !

Aimé Césaire est né en Martinique le 26 juin 1913. Un siècle pendant lequel il a laissé une véritable empreinte sur les Antilles bien sûr, mais plus largement sur le monde entier. Sa poésie, avec entre autres « Cahier d’un retour au Pays Natal », ses écrits et discours, comme le Discours sur le colonialisme, lui valent une renommée internationale. Connu également pour ses écrits sur la « Négritude », il laissera derrière lui plus de 14 œuvres, dans les domaines de la poésie, du discours mais aussi du théâtre. En parallèle de cet œuvre littéraire il est happé par la politique et devient maire de Fort de France en 1945 et député l’année suivante, deux fonctions qu’il occupera pendant 56 et 48 ans. Aimé Césaire à la poésie toujours marquée de surréalisme a pourtant bien gardé un réalisme certain et son implication fut une réelle
inspiration pour beaucoup. Depuis son décès, le 17 avril 2008, de nombreux édifices comme des écoles, le théâtre de Fort de France et même l’aéroport porte son nom. Un hommage à un grand homme ! Aimé Césaire was born in Martinique on June 26th, 1913. Almost a century ago…His writings have left a deep mark in the F.W.I as well as in the world. His poetry, close to the Surrealism mouvement, his writings on Colonialism, his theatre plays, and of course his work on the « Negritude » have influenced many. But Aimé Césaire was not only a writer, he soon got involved in politics and became Fort de France mayor as well as deputy. For over 50 years he’s managed to pursue his writings and his political involvement. Ever since his death, on April 17th 2008, his name has not only been given to some shools,, but also to the Fort de France Theatre and to the Airport. A tribute to a great man !
