Dive Into Halloween Fun at SeaWorld Orlando’s

Orlando is full of Halloween thrills this time of year but there’s only one place where pumpkins swim, mermaids sparkle, and Sesame Street friends lead the parade. SeaWorld Orlando’s Spooktacular is back, and it’s bigger, brighter, and more boo-tiful than ever! Running select dates from Aug. 30 through Nov. 2, 2025, this daytime celebration brings goodies, costumes, and character encounters to families ready for a Halloween with a splash of fun.

Spooktacular is made for kids (and kids at heart). From trick-ortreating along colorful trails to bubble-filled dance parties, every corner of the park turns into a playground of fall festivities. So bring your costumes, snag a reusable bag in the park, and let’s dive into all the not-so-spooky fun waiting for you this year.

Sesame Street brings heart, humor, and plenty of dance breaks, making Spooktacular an easy “yes” for little ones who want Halloween fun without the frights.

Dress Up & Show Off

Costumes are part of the fun, and everyone’s encouraged to show off their Halloween best! Tiny pumpkins, miniature sharks, superheroes, and princesses, you’ll see it all at Spooktacular.

Trick-or-Treating by the Sea

At the heart of Spooktacular is the Trick or Treat Trail, where waves of tasty delights are handed out at every stop. Kids light up as they stroll from station to station, filling their bags with goodies while meeting whimsical characters along the way.

PRO TIP: For families navigating food allergies, SeaWorld proudly participates in the Teal Pumpkin Program. Instead of treats, kids can collect teal tokens at each station and redeem them later for allergy-friendly treats, so no one misses out on the fun.

Dance, Wiggle, Repeat!

No Halloween is complete without a little dancing and Spooktacular has parties made just for that.

BUBBLE DANCE PARTY Picture bubbles filling the air, music pumping, and kids giggling with Spooktacular pals by their side. This is a guaranteed memory-maker for you and your family!

SCARECROW HALLOWEEN DANCE PARTY Over in Journey to Atlantis Plaza, friendly scarecrows get the crowd moving with music, games, and plenty of energy. It’s impossible not to join in the fun.

Mazes, Mermaids & More

This year, Spooktacular packs in a lineup of activities designed to keep every moment fresh and fun.

HARVEST MAZE Wind your way through twists and turns in a family-friendly maze that feels like a slice of autumn right in Orlando. It’s just challenging enough for kids to giggle their way through and easy enough for the whole family to enjoy together.

MEET A MERMAID Over in the Key West area, shimmering mermaids greet guests with smiles and waves! These shimmering sea stars never fail to make a splash with families.

PUMPKIN GARDEN & STORYTELLER Wander through a whimsical garden where pumpkin fish play peek-a-boo. If you’re lucky, you may bump into the Storyteller sharing tales among the vines.

HALLOWEEN SCAVENGER HUNT Families can purchase a map and set out to discover colorful Halloween friends hiding throughout the park. Complete your hunt and redeem it at Coconut Bay Traders for a special prize!

COSTUME CONTEST On Fridays in October, costumed kids can strut their stuff for a chance to win fun prizes. From superheroes to storybook characters, it’s a runway built for giggles.

Why Families Love Spooktacular

So, what makes Spooktacular the ultimate family Halloween destination in Orlando? For starters, it’s all included with park admission, so you don’t need a separate ticket. That means you get Halloween festivities plus all the thrill rides, shows, and animal encounters SeaWorld Orlando is known for.

But above all, Spooktacular is designed to be a place where kids can celebrate Halloween safely, colorfully, and joyfully. From Elmo’s dance moves to snack-stuffed bags, from mermaids to scarecrows, the event is built to create memories families will treasure long after the last wrapper is tossed. Enjoy this as an Annual Passholder and become part of every seasonal event throughout the year with free parking plus discounts and special perks.

THE PLAY LIST

with

Amber Brooke Farms and Playgrounds

a Country Twist:

Every fall, our family looks forward to visiting Amber Brooke Farms in Eustis for a full day of hands-on farm fun, perfect for young children. Littles love exploring the themed play zones and racing down the giant slide hill on burlap sacks. The tractor ride and barrel train are perfect to rest your feet and enjoy the country views; meanwhile, a ginormous jumping pillow and sand pit let kids dig and get messy (it is a farm after all).

Ways to Play

At the heart of the farm’s interactive fun are several kidapproved activities like handcranked digging toys that let children scoop away like mini excavators, and gem-mining stations where kids can reveal colorful treasures in the dirt. On U-pick days (beginning in December), these activities are included with the $10 per-child “Fun Pass,” offering a creative and sensory-rich outlet that’s both simple and memorable. Including access to the playgrounds, slide hill,

jump pillows, sand digger area, corn pit, and more, it’s a child's paradise while parents can pick fresh fruit!

It's especially fun to head to the farm for one of Amber Brooke Farms’ seasonal events like their Fall Festival (coming up September 20–November 2), and Strawberry Fest in the spring. During these themed weekends, families can enjoy classic attractions such as the cow-train made from barrel cars, hayrides, a petting zoo and pony rides, tug-of-war, live music, a bubble barn, and additional add-on options like archery.

Bonus: Savor A Sweet Treat

A visit wouldn’t be complete without enjoying some farmfresh food! Plan a visit during strawberry or blueberry U-pick season to include the freshest berries you’ve ever tasted; meanwhile, seasonal food and beverages like cobblers, slushies, wines, and more (not to mention their homemade fudge) are available throughout the year. It’s even encouraged to eat the blueberries as you pick them.

New Space-Themed Ride to Launch at LEGOLAND® Florida Resort

LEGOLAND® Florida Resort is getting ready for an epic launch of a brand-new, groundbreaking roller coaster for the first time since 2011, and it’s going to be galactic! Not only will it be indoors (yay!), but when it opens in early 2026, you can expect to be immersed in a LEGO® galaxy in a way that’s never been done before.

Merlin Magic Making’s global team of designers and engineers, which has been working in close collaboration with the LEGO Group, says it’s going to be the most technologically advanced attraction the Resort has ever created. Um, we can’t wait!

Now that the countdown to launch is on, we’re catching up with Blake Boyter, a senior project manager at Merlin Magic Making working on this project, to get all the exciting details.

TBPM: First, let's talk about how exciting this new experience will be for us in Florida, given our ties to the space program. How does it feel to be a part of such an 'out of this world' opportunity?

BB: It’s an absolute privilege and honestly a little surreal to bring a space-themed LEGO® attraction to life here at LEGOLAND® Florida Resort. Growing up playing with LEGO® bricks, I never dreamed I’d get to work with such an iconic brand professionally and create something this ambitious. Being able to pair my childhood love of LEGO with Florida’s deep connection to space exploration makes this a truly special experience. Plus, I get to work alongside the brilliant minds at Merlin Magic Making (from creatives to engineers), and it really is a team effort to deliver something this, well … astronomical!

TBPM: Rides have become more immersive over the years. Tell us about the evolution of rides at theme parks and what makes this experience so different from others at LEGOLAND Florida.

BB: Nowadays, guests expect more than just a ride. They’re looking for a complete story and an experience they can step into. What sets this roller coaster apart is that it’s designed as a full guest journey from the moment you walk in. The interactive queue actually shapes your experience once you’re on the ride. We’ve packed in more media, more screens and more advanced technology than we’ve ever done in a LEGOLAND attraction here in North America. Guests will work together as a team and ride as a team, a true LEGO experience from start to finish.

TBPM: The LEGO Space sets are so popular among kids — is there a special tie-in with these iconic sets?

BB: One of the coolest parts of this project has been collaborating directly with LEGO, closer than we’ve ever worked together before. The spaceport at LEGOLAND Florida draws inspiration from decades of LEGO Space sets, from the classic designs many of us grew up with to today’s City, Friends and DUPLO® themes. You’ll spot clever nods to iconic sets tucked throughout the experience. It’s a fun tribute to LEGO Space sets, blending the past, present and future in a way only LEGO can.

TBPM: LEGOLAND Florida is always adding something new, like the new SEA LIFE Florida. Why is that so important to you all, and can you tease any other fun projects beyond 2026?

BB: Keeping things fresh is a big part of who we are. Our guests come to build memories with their families, and we want every visit to feel like there’s something new to discover. Right now, our pipeline is full of exciting projects (though it’s a bit early to share details on most of them). I can say we’ve got a big renovation and expansion planned for our Big Shop, and beyond 2026, let’s just say … the creativity doesn’t stop here!

TBPM: Anything else you’d like our readers to know?

BB: I just want to say how much of a team effort this has been. We’ve been working on this project for over three years. This roller coaster is truly a labor of love from so many talented people here in Florida, California, the U.K. and beyond. Getting to visit LEGO

headquarters in Billund and see unreleased products for inspiration was incredible. Knowing that this attraction will tie into LEGO sets kids can actually play with at home, and sets that their parents and even grandparents played with during their childhood, is so rewarding. It’s like building a bridge across generations, all through the spirit of LEGO. And personally? Being a kid from Tennessee who loved LEGO and now building real-life LEGO experiences … well, it doesn’t get much cooler than that.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Queue Experience: The journey begins with a covered, story-driven queue area inside LEGOLAND SPACEPORT 885 that invites families to engage, imagine and prepare for launch, rain or shine!

The Ultimate Indoor Coaster Experience: Launch into a LEGO space adventure blasting off from the LEGOLAND SPACEPORT 885 launchpad, named in homage to one of the original LEGO® Space Scooter sets, #885.

Orbital Outpost: The themed retail shop is packed with stellar souvenirs, space gear and LEGO sets to commemorate your mission.

DUPLO® TOT Spot for Tiny Astronauts: Little explorers ages 1–4 can jump, crawl, and play in this shaded, soft-surfaced area featuring DUPLO bricks, vehicles, characters and a photo op, with nearby seating for grown-ups.

In the Know

Like a Space Pro

From a former space reporter and current dad, here are my top ten secrets of the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex

Just an hour from Orlando, it’s a family adventure that can keep your crew of space cadets engaged for two full days.

MOON MASTERPIECE

WATCH FOR WILDLIFE

On the Kennedy Space Center Bus Tour, I have personally seen alligators, armadillos, wild pigs and bald eagles.

ASTRONAUT ON DUTY

Alan Bean, an astronaut and artist, sprinkled real Moon dust into his paintings, including a towering two-story tall one in the Apollo-Saturn V Center.

FROM BIG SCREEN TO BIG FUN

The enormous Planet Play indoor play area is built inside a converted IMAX giant screen movie theater. 1

SENSORY SIGNS

At every attraction, you'll find signs that break down the sensory impact so you know what to expect before you go in.

SHRINK-WRAPPED SHUTTLE

SCIENCE UP CLOSE

The STEAM team puts on a fascinating science show in the Universe Theater, but sometimes you can spot them in other places like Gateway doing smaller demonstrations of science just for you.

UP IN FRONT

On the Shuttle Launch Experience simulator, sit closest to the front if you want to feel the motion the most. There's also a separate room where you can just watch if you don't want to ride.

MISSING MOON BOOTS

When you see the spacesuit Alan Shepard wore on the moon in the Apollo-Saturn V Center, look down. Something is missing. Where are the boots that made those iconic footprints on the surface of the moon? Well, they’re still up there! NASA told all the Apollo mission crews to leave their boots behind on the moon to save weight for the trip home to Earth. 9

When Space Shuttle Atlantis first arrived to be put on display, the building wasn't finished yet. So they wrapped the entire space shuttle in plastic wrap to keep it clean while they finished constructing its new home around it.

Where to stay

Need extra towels? Forget your toothbrush? Here, a real robot named Luna will deliver them to your room! With a fun pool and splash area, views of launch pads in the distance, and in-room star projectors, it’s a stellar spot. And did I mention the real robot?

Where to eat

THE SPACE BAR

When the elevator’s countdown hits zero, the doors open to this rooftop restaurant atop the Courtyard hotel. Kids will find favorites on the menu, while adults can dig into chef-created entrees, bowls and salads. Sip a “Space Shuttle” from the custom cocktail menu and take in space center views across the peaceful Indian River Lagoon.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with New Flavors

Hola amigos!

It's Jenny from @LunchBoxMafia bringing you some Latin flavor as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. I like to honor my mother and abuela by sharing one of our favorite recipes.

PICADILLO

One easy recipe deeply loved at our house is picadillo (pronounced Pee-kah-dee-yo). Picadillo is usually served with rice. It can also be used as a filling in tacos, empanadas, alcapurrias and other savory pastries or croquettes. It can also be incorporated into other dishes, like pastelón.

INGREDIENTS:

1 pound ground beef

1 - 2 capfuls of white vinegar

2-3 tablespoons olive oil

1 medium onion chopped

2 teaspoons minced garlic

1 teaspoon cumin

1 teaspoon or more oregano, (adjust to taste)

1 small green or red pepper

1 cup tomato sauce

2 cups diced potato, optional

½ cup broth or water

1 packet Sazon to taste

½ cup sliced green Spanish olives with pimento

2 tablespoons of chopped cilantro

DIRECTIONS:

1. Add about 2 tablespoons of oil to a skillet followed by onions, garlic, cumin and oregano and allow to sweat for about a minute.

2. Then add bell pepper and tomato sauce and bring to a simmer.

3. Add ground meat, white vinegar and potatoes (if using potatoes) and cook for about 7-10 minutes or more, stirring frequently to prevent burning.

4. Add about ½ cup broth or water as needed to cook until potatoes are soft and tender.

5. Season with Sazón.

6. Finally add olives and cilantro. Adjust for seasoning.

7. Serve with white rice.

Picadillo empanadas are another one of her favorites. Packed with warm rice and beans, these are total comfort food for us! You can buy the premade empanada discs at Publix. Check the international frozen foods section.

We packed the picadillo with white rice in my daughter's thermos for her lunch – so much love, it’s like sending a warm hug!

Join me on Instagram to watch a video about this recipe or see others. Just hit the PR food tab and enjoy! Come say hello and let me know if you try any of these recipes. Buen provecho!

Moms to Know

When Jen Knopf’s son was diagnosed with dyslexia, she quickly realized just how difficult it was to find the right support despite the fact that dyslexia is the longest known and most common learning difference that exists, impacting 1-in-5. That realization sparked a mission that would grow into the REED Charitable Foundation: an Orlando-based nonprofit that’s now leading the charge for ensuring all educators are trained in the science of how children learn to read.

REED provides affordable, research-based literacy training for educators and practical resources for families. Under Jen’s leadership, the foundation has partnered with schools, libraries, and community organizations to bring structured literacy and dyslexia support to families who often can’t access these tools otherwise.

A former attorney, Jen blends professional tenacity with the compassion of a mother who’s walked this path herself. “We cannot leave the ability to read to luck or chance,” she says. “Every child deserves the gift of literacy.”

This year, REED was selected as the primary beneficiary of Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining program—a milestone moment that Jen calls “a dream come true.” The support will help expand REED’s partnerships and programs throughout the region, changing lives one reader at a time.

OPM: How does reading impact a child’s future beyond school?

JK: The effects of struggling to read ripple far beyond the classroom. There’s a direct link between literacy and issues like food & housing insecurity, mental health, substance abuse, low employment rates, and even the school-to-prison pipeline. When we teach children to read, we give them the tools to thrive—not just academically, but in life.

OPM: What has been one of your most meaningful moments with REED so far?

JK: HThere are so many, but what stays with me most are the stories from parents who finally feel seen and supported — and from teachers who say they now feel empowered to truly help their students. Knowing that our work is helping kids believe in themselves and changing the trajectory of their lives — that’s what drives me and the amazing RCF team every day.

OPM: Why is early literacy so critical to you and your mission?

JK: Reading is foundational to everything. But today, only 43% of Florida’s littlest learners start kindergarten ready, and just 57% of students read at grade level. What most people don’t realize is that 95% of children can learn to read with the right instruction. We want to make sure every child has a teacher who can confidently help them get there.

OPM: What does REED do differently?

JK: We provide best-in-class, evidence-based literacy training, coaching, and materials that not only explain why this type of instruction works but also how to implement it effectively. These resources are often only available at expensive private schools or tutoring centers. We bring them to public schools, community groups, and families at little to no cost. Since launching in 2021, we’ve helped students make gains up to three times the national norm.

OPM: What’s one thing you want parents to know?

JK: If your child is struggling with reading, you are not alone, and it’s not your fault. There are tools and support out there. And we’re here to help. Our work isn’t just about reading. It’s about giving kids the confidence to believe in themselves. There’s no greater gift than that.

The Ooey Gooey Truth About Cavities!

It’s the season of candy, candy, and MORE candy, making it the perfect time to ask… what exactly is the science behind cavities? Will an all-night session of snacking on Halloween candy really cause a cavity? And how long should we actually be brushing our teeth? We’re turning to Dr. Anna Palombini, with Imagine Orthodontic Studios in Orlando, to find out more, so grab the kiddos, and let’s read on together!

First, what is a cavity?

AP: Cavities are essentially holes that can form in the teeth. They develop when bacteria in your mouth feed on sugars from food and drinks, producing acids that wear down the enamel (the hard, protective outer layer of your teeth). Over time, if you don’t clean your teeth properly, the acid creates weak spots in the enamel, which can eventually turn into cavities.

How do they form?

AP: When you eat, a sticky film called plaque forms along your gums and on your teeth. Our mouths are full of bacteria. Some of these bacteria are helpful, but others can be harmful, especially those involved in the tooth decay process. If not removed by brushing and flossing, the bacteria in plaque feed on sugars and starches from the foods and drinks you consume. As they break down these substances, they produce acids. These acids attack the enamel. Over time, repeated acid attacks can wear down the enamel and lead to the formation of a small hole, or cavity.

Can

a cavity form overnight if I forget to brush my

teeth?

AP: Not usually overnight…but skipping brushing gives bacteria a big head start. If it becomes a habit, it’s a quick path to decay. So try not to make a habit of skipping!

Why is candy so bad for my teeth?

AP: Candy is sugar-packed, and bacteria love sugar. The more sugar they get, the more acid they make, and that acid is what breaks down your enamel. It’s essentially fuel for tooth decay.

What's the worst kind of candy to eat?

AP: Sticky and chewy candies (like caramels, gummy bears, taffy) are the worst. They cling to your teeth and stay there, giving bacteria more time to do damage. Sour candies are also bad…they’re acidic and sugary. Double trouble!

If I can't brush my teeth right away, what else can I do? Chew gum? Eat cheese? Eat an apple?

AP: Great question! If brushing isn’t possible, chewing sugar-free gum can help, it boosts saliva, which naturally cleans your teeth. Cheese and apples are also good choices: cheese helps neutralize acid, and apples can scrub a bit as you chew. But brushing is still the gold standard!

How do you treat cavities?

AP: A cavity typically develops in stages, starting with demineralization, when the enamel begins to weaken and white spots may appear. This early phase is reversible with good oral hygiene and fluoride. If left untreated, it progresses to enamel decay, where the surface breaks down and a small hole forms. At this stage, dentists remove the decayed portion and fill the hole with a strong material to protect the tooth. If the decay continues to worsen and reaches the dentin or the innermost part of the tooth (the pulp), it may require more serious treatment, such as a root canal or even tooth extraction. The earlier a cavity is caught, the easier it is to treat!

How long should I brush my teeth? As long as the alphabet

twice?

AP: That’s a fun trick! Yep, two minutes, twice to three times a day is the goal. Singing the alphabet twice gets you close. Just make sure you’re brushing all the tooth surfaces and don’t forget the tongue!

Any advice for parents to encourage kids to brush their teeth?

AP: Make it fun! Use music, brushing charts, colorful toothbrushes, or let kids pick their own toothpaste flavor. Brushing with your child helps model good habits…and a little praise or reward can go a long way. Turn it into a game, and they’re more likely to stick with it!

Safety Check! Are You Using Your Child’s Car Seat Correctly?

The messaging isn't newusing the correct car seat and installing it properly can not only significantly reduce the risk of injury but also save your child’s life in the event of a car crash. And yet, a new AAA analysis found that over 93% of Florida parents transition their kids to an adult seat belt too soon, and more than 1 in 4 switch to a booster seat before it’s safe. And then there's the car seat itself.

Many parents believe they’ve installed their child’s car seat correctly, but that’s often not the case, according to child safety experts. In 2023, 74% of car seats inspected were used improperly or incorrectly installed*.

The most common mistakes observed are:

• Installing the car seat too loosely

• Not using the tether when installing a forward-facing seat.

• Leaving the harness too loose when securing the child

BY THE NUMBERS:

Child Restraints Reduce Fatalities by 71% for infants <1 year, and 54% for children ages 1-4 years in passenger vehicles, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.

FLORIDA LAW:

Children ages 5 and under must be in a crash-tested, federally approved child restraint system. AAA and the National Safety Council recommend utilizing the added protection of a booster seat or properly fitted harness for children up to the age of 12 or until they reach 4’9” tall, depending on fit.

*According to the National Digital Car Seat Check Form (NDCF)

DON’T RUSH THE TRANSITION: WHEN TO MOVE TO THE NEXT SEAT

The transition from rear-facing to forward-facing, or out of a booster seat is another potentially confusing subject parents need to know about since it can be dangerous if done too early.

“Parents are often eager to turn their young children forward-facing in their car seats too soon,” says Mark Jenkins, spokesperson for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “However, due to their underdeveloped bodies, young children below the age of two who ride forward-facing are at a greater risk of head, neck, and spinal cord injuries if involved in a collision.”

Although it may be tempting to change things up with your car seat, make sure you double-check the expert-recommended stages:

REAR-FACING: Keep children rear-facing as long as possible — until they exceed the height or weight limit for the seat (typically age 2 or older)

FORWARD-FACING WITH A HARNESS: Use until your child outgrows the seat’s limits — often up to 60 pounds or more.

BOOSTER SEAT: Use until a seat belt fits correctly — usually between ages 8–12 or when the child reaches 4’9” tall

ADULT SEAT BELT: Only when your child passes the “Seat Belt Fit Test” — the lap belt rests on the upper thighs, the shoulder belt crosses the chest (not the neck), and the knees bend comfortably over the seat’s edge.

Regardless of which seat your child is in, the back seat is the safest place until at least age 13. Make sure to register your car seat to receive recall notices and essential safety updates, and if in doubt, get your car seat inspected. Visit SeatCheck.org or one of our local Orlando providers like Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital, Safe Kids Orange County, or AdventHealth for Children to schedule an inspection.
