Underwater Wonders: Aquatic Adventures for Orlando Families
by Dani Meyering
Florida’s natural connection to the ocean runs deep, and for Orlando-area families, there are plenty of ways to dive in and explore. Orlando’s aquatic experiences are more than just fun; they’re full of opportunities to learn, explore, and connect with the underwater world.
SEA LIFE FLORIDA AT LEGOLAND®
Newly opened inside LEGOLAND® Florida Resort, SEA LIFE Florida is an immersive aquarium catered to children ages 2-12. It offers multiple places for kids to have their own special viewing experience. Families can wander through a variety of colorful habitats filled with sharks, rays, jellyfish, sea turtles and more.
The park features over 3,000 creatures across 150 species. Conservation is a key part of the experience, with interactive exhibits and handson stations helping kids understand their role in protecting marine life.
Stingray Bay is an especially unique part of the aquarium, with multiple cozy pockets for kids to get up close and view rays in a way not found anywhere else. Scattered throughout SEA LIFE Florida kids can discover spots built just for them! And if anyone in your family needs a break, a quiet room within Stingray Bay is perfect for neurodivergent families and those with sensory needs.
We love the variety of aquatic habitats on display in SEA LIFE Florida. From the shallow Florida mangroves to the deep blue sea, you can explore underwater tunnels and pop-ups and even feel like you’re underneath a coastal dock. The grand finale is the captivating “theme park under the sea.” This new addition offers the kind of up-close excitement that makes learning feel like play.
SEA LIFE Florida vs. SEA LIFE Orlando
If the name sounds familiar, you’re not wrong. Orlando is already home to SEA LIFE Orlando at ICON Park. While both are operated by the same company, SEA LIFE Florida focuses on younger children and incorporates new design techniques to cater to families. SEA LIFE Orlando offers various sea life and a more urban, compact experience. Both are family-friendly, but each offer a unique atmosphere depending on what kind of day you plan.

Offering a peaceful, all-inclusive experience where families can snorkel through a coral reef, mingle with flamingos and other animal encounters, and float down one of the best lazy rivers in town. THE LIVING SEAS AT EPCOT
Home to the second-largest aquarium in the United States, guests at The Living Seas can watch sea turtles, manatees, and massive tanks full of fish—plus ride along with Nemo and Friends. Our favorite though, is Turtle Talk with Crush (from Finding Nemo) where kids can interact with on-screen characters, learn about and ask questions about underwater life.

Moms to Know
Altoniece Reynolds
by Laura Byrne Head of
Resort Experiences
LEGOLAND ® Florida Resort
Perseverance, grace, and an acceptance that work-life balance is not easy—Altoniece Reynolds, Head of Resort Experiences at LEGOLAND Florida Resort, is able to bring all these lessons from motherhood to her professional journey. These building blocks of success have not only helped her climb the leadership ranks at work but have also shown her kids that if they dream big and work hard, they can achieve their goals, too.
OPM: Tell us a little bit about yourself and the professional journey that led you to SEA LIFE Florida?
AR: My journey in the theme park world began over a decade ago as front-line staff directing traffic in the LEGOLAND Florida parking lot during spring break. I never imagined that years later I’d be leading major resort experiences across LEGOLAND Florida Resort, including helping open the very first PEPPA PIG Theme Park in the world and now overseeing SEA LIFE Florida!
Each step along the way from attractions to operations, to leadership roles has been fueled by a passion for creating unforgettable family moments. And I am especially proud to represent working moms in this space. I’ve got three energetic kids at home who keep me grounded and inspired.
OPM: What was it like to work with a team to launch a new attraction in Florida? Any lessons learned about the importance of teamwork?
AR: Launching a new attraction like SEA LIFE Florida is like building a LEGO masterpiece, it takes a lot of moving pieces, patience, and trust! Whether it’s coordinating the arrival of sea creatures or refining the guest experience... every small win adds up to something BIG!
The biggest lesson? Never underestimate the power of communication and collaboration. Every role matters, from the aquarists behind the scenes to our Model Citizens in the front lines greeting guests— when we’re aligned, that’s when the spark happens for our guests.
OPM: What are some of your favorite things to do as a family in Central Florida?
AR: As a native of Winter Haven, who loves sports, I am either going fishing with my son, traveling for basketball with my daughter, or finding family-friendly events in the community. Just this weekend, we participated in a Juneteenth celebration parade, explored local downtown markets, and did some family shopping. I can honestly say there’s always something fun to discover around Central Florida!
OPM: How did you balance motherhood and continuing your education? Any advice you’d offer other moms out there looking to further their educational goals?
AR: Balance is definitely not easy. I was raising my little ones, working full-time, and studying late at night. There were days I felt like I was running on fumes. But I kept reminding myself who I was doing it for: my kids. I wanted them to see what perseverance looks like.
My advice to other moms? Give yourself grace. You don’t have to do it all at once. Small steps forward still count. Lean on the people around you, that's why it takes a village right!? And don’t be afraid to let your kiddos see you working hard for something bigger because they’re watching, and they’ll be your biggest cheerleaders.
OPM: We know it will be hard to choose, but what are some of your favorite things at SEA LIFE Florida?
AR: How can I possibly choose just one favorite at SEA LIFE Florida?! I watched it all come together from a patch of dirt to a beautifully themed, immersive experience. Every corner holds a memory, and every detail has a special place in my heart. That said, if I had to choose, there’s something so incredibly peaceful about the 180-degree ocean tunnel. Walking through it feels like you’ve stepped into another world, the colors, the theming, the ambiance. Seeing our Theme Park Under the Sea is awe-inspiring every single time!
I also truly believe in the mission at work here. The conservation efforts and care our team gives to every animal serve as a constant reminder that SEA LIFE is more than just a beautiful attraction. It’s a place with purpose, where every visit can inspire guests to care a little more about our oceans. Being part of something that makes a real impact, especially for future generations, means everything to me.
Altoniece with her husband, Brandon, and eldest children, Brooklynn, and Brandon "BJ".
Make a Splash at Aquatica Orlando – Day and Night! …plus more After-Hours Events
by Dani Meyering
Aquatica Orlando is one of our favorite water parks for families since it has splash zones, sandy beaches, and lots of slides. It’s easy to navigate, not overwhelmingly large, and packed with ways for kids to play. During select nights in the summer, the park’s AquaGlow transforms the park with glowing lights, dance parties, and after-dark fun.
FUN IN THE SUN
Aquatica has two areas just for kids: Turi’s Kid Cove features mini slides, splash zones, and water play elements in shallow water. It’s bright, colorful, and easy to supervise. Walkabout Waters is a giant, multi-level play structure offering nonstop action for slightly older kids with water cannons, climbing nets, and a massive tipping bucket.
Two River Rides, Two Very Different Experiences
Choose from Roa’s Rapids, a fast-moving river full of swirling currents, bubbling geysers, and wave-like action, or the more traditional Loggerhead Lane, where you can relax enjoying scenic views, a tropical fish tank and animal habitats along the way.
Pro Tips for Parents:
• Arrive Early: Get there at park opening for the best seating and shorter wait times. The wave pools and popular slides fill up fast.
• Pack Smart: Bring water shoes, sunscreen, swim diapers (if needed), and refillable water bottles. Life vests are free and available around the park.
• Rent a Cabana (If You Can): Having a shaded space of your own makes a big difference, especially with young kids. It’s a splurge, but worth it for naps and downtime.
WHICH EXPERIENCE IS RIGHT FOR YOUR FAMILY?
Toddlers (under 4):
Stick to daytime visits. Turi’s Kid Cove and the sandy beach areas are perfect for little ones who need slower-paced fun and naps in the shade.
Young Kids (ages 4–7):
They’ll love Walkabout Waters and the gentle slides in the kids’ zones during the day. AquaGlow may be too stimulating for this age group unless you’re ready to give staying up late a try.
Older Kids (ages 8–12):
A great fit for both day and night. They can handle more adventurous slides during the day and will enjoy the music, lights, and fast-paced energy of AquaGlow.
Teens (13+):
Ideal for AquaGlow! The nighttime vibe, glowing rides, and DJ dance party are a hit.
Walkabout Waters
Loggerhead Lane
Turi's Kid Cove
The fun doesn’t stop at Aquatica! These are our Top Picks for even more after-dark entertainment at the parks; separate event tickets required.

On select nights through late September, AquaGlow guests can party in the wave pool and dance to music from 8 to 11 p.m. (with entrance as early as 6 p.m.) when attractions transform under neon lights.
Roa’s Rapids becomes a “neon paradise,” the lazy river is set aglow, and Tassie’s Neon Twist spins riders into a colorful, music-pulsing adventure. Glow Zones with illuminated paths, photo-worthy installations, and big foam parties add to the fun.
Good to Know:
• Best for Older Kids: The music, lights, and nighttime energy are exciting, but can be overstimulating for toddlers or young kids.

Gator Gully Splash Park at Gatorland
by Dani Meyering
Now two years old, Gator Gully Splash Park at Gatorland has quietly become one of the best hidden gems for local families. While it requires regular park admission, the splash pad offers a refreshing, low-key way to wrap up a day of watching gator shows and exploring the wildlife park.
Florida Fun at Gatorland
Upgraded with whimsical touches like palm tree sprayers and oversized gator sculptures, the splash area is both playful and practical. Parents can relax nearby while kids cool off, surrounded by Gatorland’s signature sense of humor.
Discounts and Memberships
Keep your eye out for frequent 50% off Florida Resident deals during select times of the year, making it easier to justify a visit
just for the splash pad alone. Annual memberships are also available, and many families who live nearby opt for a membership to enjoy frequent access to Gator Gully, seasonal events, and other kid-friendly highlights, including a small but charming petting farm.
Seasonal Sunshine
If you happen to visit during fall, don’t be surprised to see little ones in swimsuits running through water jets next to pumpkins and Halloween décor — a perfect, only-in-Florida blend of seasons and styles. Gator Gully Splash Park is open year-round, but can close due to inclement weather, including the rare days when a cold snap pushes through.
Know Before You Go
Changing rooms are available near the splash pad, and a variety of seating is available, including shaded pavilions with picnic tables. Remember to bring towels, sunscreen, and a change of clothes for the ride home.

Wild Waters & Rustic Wonders: The Ultimate Weekend Escape at Westgate River Ranch
by Westgate River Ranch
Just outside of Orlando, where the pavement ends and the wild begins, you’ll find Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo—a 1,700-acre slice of authentic Florida nestled along the scenic Kissimmee River. Already known for its rugged charm, Saturday Night Rodeo, and one-of-a-kind accommodations, the resort has added an exciting new reason to visit: River Country Water Park.
This outdoor water park is the perfect fusion of adrenaline and relaxation, bringing a splash of fun to Florida’s only authentic dude ranch. Whether you're an adventurer chasing thrills or someone looking to kick back under the sun, River Country delivers on all fronts. At the heart of the action are three signature slides: Rooster Run, a winding 281-foot open slide packed with curves and excitement; Rodeo Rapids, a vibrant striped tube slide that’s as fun as it is fast; and the boldest of the bunch, Stampede Falls, a dramatic 35-foot freefall drop made for true daredevils.
Younger guests can dive into the fun at the kiddie splash zone, where mini slides and
interactive spray cannons keep the laughter going all day long. For those who prefer a slower pace, the lagoon-style pool offers shallow sun shelves ideal for lounging and soaking up the Florida sunshine. Want to elevate your day? Book a private cabana equipped with a TV, mini fridge, and plush seating for peak comfort. And when hunger hits, Barn Bites serves up a satisfying menu of snacks and icy drinks to keep everyone refreshed.
The best part? Access to River Country Water Park is included with your resort stay, making it an unbeatable value for families, couples, or groups looking to blend outdoor adventure with modern convenience.
Back on dry land, Westgate River Ranch continues to impress. Choose from traditional lodge suites, spacious cabins, glamping tents, luxe teepees, or Conestoga wagons, each offering a unique and immersive stay. Whether you’re roasting marshmallows under a starry sky or waking up to sunrise over untouched wilderness, the resort makes it easy to reconnect with nature—without giving up the comforts of home.
Dining is equally diverse. The Smokehouse on the River plates up hearty, homestyle meals, while the River Ranch Cattle Company offers upscale dining or stop at the General Store for grab-and-go bites and ranch essentials. For post-adventure drinks, the Saloon brings classic Western vibes and cold beverages to the mix.
Adventures await at every turn. From horseback riding and swamp buggy tours to airboat rides, archery, and mini golf, the activity lineup is packed with options for every interest and age. And don’t miss the iconic Saturday Night Rodeo, where live bull riding, barrel racing, and trick roping bring the Old West roaring to life.
From the moment you arrive, Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo captures your imagination—and now, with the addition of River Country Water Park, it just might capture your heart.
SUMMER BUCKET LIST:
Go See a Rocket Launch at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex
by Laura Byrne
TBPM: The Kennedy Space Center is a unique attraction. It’s not a theme park and better than a museum—it’s a pretty incredible place.
WS: The Kennedy Center Visitor Complex is a place where a person can immerse themselves in the space program, and you really feel it. There's just so much to do and so much to see, it really makes a significant impact on all who visit. They can not only meet people who've flown in space, but they can also see the real hardware. You can get up close and personal to the Atlantis space shuttle that actually flew in space. And you can also visit the Apollo Saturn V Center. You stand right underneath the Saturn V rocket. This rocket was a real rocket scheduled to go to the moon before the Apollo program was canceled. You can touch a moon rock. There are so many activities that you can experience. You immerse yourself in the past, the present, and a little bit of the future of our space program.
TBPM: Tell us about the daily Meet the Astronaut program, which you coordinate.
WS: We have several programs that the astronauts will perform. One is called Astronaut Encounter, and it's in a large auditorium. The person will give a
If you haven’t had a chance to experience a rocket launch in person, this is the summer to make it happen! While we can see the faint glow of a launch from here in Central Florida, there is nothing like seeing it up close, especially from the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. I took my boys, and it was one of the most memorable experiences for us as a family. We loved it so much that my oldest returned for summer day camp at the Kennedy Space Center.
But don’t take it from me—how about a real astronaut? We recently met up with astronaut Winston Scott to talk about the ways you can experience the wonders of space at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex with the kids, and I promise, it is well worth the drive and definitely doable as a day trip.
presentation, and they do Q &A. Then we have a program called “Chat with an Astronaut,” which is kind of like a fireside chat.
It's a small group of people in the audience. You can ask that person anything you ever wanted to ask about flying in space. It is important, especially to young people, because when they meet people who have actually flown in space, it becomes a reality to them. Imagine a young girl, six or seven years old, meeting a real woman who actually flew in space. Now it's real.
TBPM: Why would you encourage families to go and experience a launch together?
WS: It is so monumental and so influential. Seeing a rocket launch, I think, affects everybody in one way or another. But I think it would have a special impact on young
Winston Scott logged 24 days in space during two missions to space that included three spacewalks totaling more than 19 hours.
people. When you're up close and personal to see one, that's a whole different dimension. And when you see a launch that has people on it, that really is the ultimate. It's something everybody in the world will see at least one time. Again, because it's still a very, very unusual occurrence, and it represents the efforts of so many people who come together to work so hard to make this amazing thing happen.
TBPM: There’s a new attraction opening at the Kennedy Space Center called The Gantry. What can you tell us about it?
WS: Launch Complex 39 is being refurbished into a Gantry. You'll be able to see the launch pads, you'll be able to see the crawler tracks, the equipment, and you'll be able to watch launches from there.
TBPM: So, we have to know … what does it feel like to be weightless in space, especially while on a spacewalk!
WS: Feeling weightless is just so foreign, and there are no words I can say to make you feel it. When you're on a spacewalk, it's just you and your buddy out there. Nobody can help you. Nobody can go out and get you if something goes wrong. So, the two of you are there to get the job done, but you're also there for mutual support in case something goes wrong. So you've got to really be able to compartmentalize, focus on what you're doing while you're in this absolutely amazing and foreign environment.
Flying in space changes your life perspective. You look back at the Earth from that vantage point and see how small it is, how fragile it looks, because when you're in space, not only do you see the curvature of the Earth, the boundary horizon, but you see out past the Earth. You can see other planets, other stars, and so on. So you realize the Earth is really a relatively small, finite piece of rock in the universe. It gives you a whole other perspective.
You don't see boundaries from one country to another, one group of people to another, and you see no turmoil. It's very, very peaceful and quiet looking. Really beautiful.
TBPM: For the kids out there who are aspiring to become a part of the space program, what’s your advice?
WS: I think parents ought to encourage all kids, and people of all ages ought to encourage each other to come and do this because it represents the future. The future of humankind is beyond Earth. Humankind is, if we're going to survive, it’s out past our own solar system, our own universe, but living outside of our Earth. But also, it expands our horizons, it expands our thinking, and it brings us together internationally. You know, everything we do in space nowadays is international. It broadens us, it helps us grow, it just improves us as individuals in so many ways, and improves us as a human species in so many ways. And it's just downright fun. Watching a rocket launch is fun.
TBPM: What can we as parents teach our children to help them achieve their dreams, even if they don’t want to fly to space?
WS: Resilience is so important, and that's where parents come in. Parents should do what they can to instill that resilience in their children. You teach them from day one to work hard to persevere, and when things don't work out your way, you don't give up. You get up, and the old saying goes, you get up and you try, try again. I don't use the word fail. Having a setback is not the end of the world; it's just a stumbling block to overcome. And every time you overcome a stumbling block, it makes you stronger, it makes you better. In fact, we learn more from our failures or our difficulties than we do from our successes.

Back-to-school Lunchboxmafia with
by Jenny P., @lunchboxmafia
It's the most wonderful time of the year! (Well, the second most wonderful.) I'm here to make back to school lunch packing easy and stress free for you.
EASY FOOD PREP TIPS
These are some kitchen shortcuts that work for us so that we don't have to carve out time later for food and meal prep:
• When you're cutting up veggies for dinner, prep extra and store for lunches.
• Portion out leftover proteins and sides as you clean up from dinner to give you a head start on lunches for the next day.
• Boil eggs (nine minutes is perfect) and store them in the fridge for up to seven days. Use them in salad, sandwiches or just add them to your lunchbox with a dash of everything bagel seasoning.
• When you grill chicken, grill extra and use it in pasta, salads and sandwiches during the week.
EASY GO-TO LUNCHES
Check out these family favorites:
• Protein roll-ups are always a big hit. Roll up sliced turkey and Colby jack cheese or sliced salami with mozzarella string cheese.
• Lunchables are always on high rotation over here. They're easy to eat and fun to pack. Use pretzel crisps, naan or pita chips if they get bored of crackers.
• Pasta never disappoints. Whether it's mac and cheese or penne pasta with Alfredo sauce, I send it at least once per week.
TIPS FOR HOT LUNCHES
I’m sharing these suggestions that can help keep that yummy food warm:
Always preheat your thermos with boiling hot water. Put the lid on and set it aside while you prepare or reheat the food.
When you're reheating rice or pasta, add a few teaspoons of broth or water to the rice and pasta sauce to the pasta so that it warms through evenly.
Reheat sliced pizza on the stove! Add your pizza to a pan on medium heat for 2 minutes. Sprinkle a couple drops of water and cover with the lid. Heat for another 2 minutes. To pack, let it come to room temperature and pack it with a napkin underneath to absorb any moisture and keep the crust crisp!
Check out the school menu and recreate something that your kiddo’s friends usually enjoy.
Back-to-School Sleep Routines Start Now
Sleep is important! Here’s how much your kids need and how to make sure they’re getting it.
by Anu Varma Panchal
It’s a common lament among parents that while grownups long for a full night of sleep, children resist the call of bedtime as strenuously as they can. The result of this nightly tug-of-war is that about 60 percent of middle schoolers and 70 percent of high schoolers admit that they do not get adequate sleep.
The effects of missing a night’s sleep go beyond being cranky the next day. Dr. Luis Ortiz, a physician at the Sleep Center of Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital who researches narcolepsy and other sleep disorders and how they affect children’s health, explains that lack of sleep affects children’s developing brains. “They can’t function well, they don’t have focus, and they can’t perform well,” he says. And when it comes to mood disorders, lack of sleep becomes part of a painful cycle, with insomnia exacerbating the symptoms of anxiety, depression and hyperactivity and the mood disorders themselves making it difficult to sleep.
Developing good sleep hygiene and sleep habits can set the stage for a lifetime. Read on for more tips about sleep, how to ensure your child gets enough of it and how to set lifelong healthy habits.
How Much Sleep Should My Child Get?
Here’s the rule: A 10-year-old child needs 10 hours of sleep each night. Younger children need more, and teens should aim for nine hours each night. Dr. Ortiz suggests these bedtimes:
Elementary school ages: 7:30-9 p.m.
Middle school ages: 8:30-10 p.m.
Teens: 9-11 p.m.
Scan to access the American Academy of Sleep Medicine’s Sleep Calculator to determine an exact bedtime based on your child’s age and wake up time.
Set a Bedtime Routine
July is a good time to start prepping good sleep habits for the upcoming school year. Begin your routine two weeks before the first day of school to get the best results.
During the day, your child should:
• Get plenty of natural light first thing in the morning.
• Get plenty of physical exercise during the day (but not within two hours of bedtime).
• Play and do homework and other stimulating activities away from the bed so that bed remains associated with sleep.
• Avoid naps (if the child is school-age).
Before Bedtime:
• Dim the lights at home four hours prior to bedtime — it’s a sign for the body to start producing melatonin.
• Keep the temperatures cool — 68-72 degrees is ideal for sleep.
• Turn off electronics an hour before bedtime.
• Keep televisions, tablets, charging phones and stimulating toys away from the bedroom.
• Reduce noise, such as televisions in another room or siblings of a different age in the same room.
At Bedtime:
• Follow a consistent bedtime routine every day, even if the caregiver changes.
• Include a warm bath before changing into pajamas.
• Read one or two short, soothing stories, but avoid any with disturbing or frightening themes.
• Be aware of changes in routine that might affect a child’s ability to fall asleep, such as knowledge of a house guest arriving, or a parent departing on a trip shortly.
A note about melatonin …
While melatonin is marketed as a supplement in the United States, Dr. Ortiz warns that it is considered a medication everywhere else and should be treated like one. A pediatrician should always guide the use and dosage of melatonin. And while low-dose melatonin can be a sleep aid, it should not be a permanent solution to sleep problems.
Where Purpose Meets Opportunity
Graduates of AdventHealth University Find They Are Exception to Job-Placement Struggles
In this moment when many young adults face uncertain job prospects, parents are understandably concerned about their children’s future following college graduation. AdventHealth University graduates are defying this market trend.
AHU graduates are seamlessly entering the workforce with confidence and competence. With a mission rooted in the healing values of Christ, AdventHealth University is dedicated to preparing students to practice health care as a ministry, with more than two dozen health care degrees ranging from associate to doctoral level.
“I had a job lined up before I ever graduated,” said Emily Thompson, 2025 graduate of AdventHealth University and now a nurse in the High-Risk Pregnancy Unit at AdventHealth Orlando. “I discovered my passion for obstetrics and gynecology during nursing school, and when the chance came to work in high-risk pregnancy, I knew it was where I was meant to be. The support and collaboration I experienced working alongside other nurses in my final year made a huge impact and gave me the confidence to step into this role.”
While national employment rates for recent college grads fluctuate, AHU’s placement success remains strong, thanks to its unique integration with the preeminent AdventHealth system and its focus on high-demand health professions. Students benefit from handson clinical experience at one of the largest healthcare systems in the U.S., giving them a competitive edge before they even cross the graduation stage. For instance, nearly 100 percent of the university’s nursing graduates find employment delivering whole-person care at AdventHealth.
This commitment to student success is receiving national attention. AdventHealth University recently earned a prestigious Carnegie Classification as one of the country’s Opportunity Colleges and Universities – Higher Access, Higher Earnings. This designation highlights institutions that not only open doors to a high-quality college education but also deliver on the promise to change the lives of students and their families. Only 20 other colleges and universities in Florida are rated at this highest level, and only 16 percent of all U.S. colleges and universities fall into this classification. just helping students get degrees –it’s helping them build futures.
For Orlando parents looking ahead to their children’s college years, AdventHealth University offers a compelling option for those seeking careers that provide hope and healing. With the state’s smallest faculty-to-student class size ratio as well as degrees and certificates designed around real-time health care demands, students receive personalized support and state-of-theart training.
And the results are noticeable. According to Carnegie, AdventHealth University alumni report median earnings of $68,561 – significantly outpacing peers with degrees from similar institutions.
With instructional sites in Orlando, Tampa, and Denver, AdventHealth University is building on its 33-year legacy of developing healthcare professionals of uncommon compassion. AHU students are valued, supported, and set up for success – not just in their careers, but in their calling.
AdventHealth University opened in 1992, offering health care-related degrees that support in-demand professions.
BACK TO PRACTICE
The first exam of the year is the most important. Before they take on math tests and pop quizzes, start strong with an annual physical. Orlando Health Physician Associates offers routine checkups, same-day testing, immunizations, and more to help your child ace their first day — and every day after. Plus, with after-hours appointments at select locations, it’s easier than ever to fit their checkups into your schedule. This is back-to-school, backed by Orlando Health. Learn more at OrlandoHealth.com/BackToSchool
A common question parents have is whether their child needs an annual physical with their pediatrician if they’ve already had a sports clearance exam at school.
The short answer is yes. And it’s important to understand why. A licensed professional conducting an exam at the school or an urgent care clinic doesn’t have access to your child’s health record. And the exam won’t include a full wellness and health assessment.
Your child’s pediatrician knows their medical and family history, which is vital to maintaining continuity of care. The annual exam focuses on many areas of your child’s health, including:
• Overall growth and development
• School readiness and any learning issues
• Diet and nutritional health
• Chronic medical conditions
• Mental health and coping strategies
• Required vaccinations
Your family pediatrician is invested in your child’s health and can give you guidance and resources on a range of issues with your child’s physical, mental, and social health. Those needs can’t be met at a sports clearance clinic.
We are here and ready to help you meet all your child’s healthcare needs. Call your pediatrician today or sign up for Orlando Health My Chart to schedule an appointment. You also can use MyChart to see test results, request prescription refills, and pay bills.
