We acknowledge that we are on the traditional homelands of the Puyallup Tribe. The Puyallup people have lived on and stewarded these lands since the beginning of time, and continue to do so today. We recognize that this land acknowledgment is one small step toward true allyship and we commit to uplifting the voices, experiences, and histories of the Indigenous people of this land and beyond.

About the Brass Soloist
Carter Mitchell, euphonium
It is an honor to be selected as the soloist for this year’s brass choir performance at the Tacoma Junior Youth Symphony concert. I began my music career studying the euphonium in 5th grade, and the trombone in 6th grade. Through middle school and into high school I have performed euphonium for the concert and wind ensembles, and trombone in jazz ensemble. I have been a part of the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association since my freshman year of high school while performing classical trombone, as well as in recent years performing euphonium with the brass choir. I have a deep passion for creating music as it is a universal language which transcends the hearts of the audience, allowing us to share in a journey and connect emotionally with one another as a community. After graduating from high school, I will be attending Washington State University in Pullman, pursuing a double major in music performance and mechanical engineering. As high school graduation approaches, I look forward to where life and my music will take me in college. Please, enjoy the brass choir and Tacoma Junior Youth Symphony performance!
