Quality T-ISS started 3 years ago an innovation-project in order to upgrade their photoluminescent Sign range. Till today most photoluminescent sign makers use PVC. Only some know that PVC is the single most environmentally damaging of all plastics, since PVC contaminates the environment throughout its complete lifecycle. As users increasingly demand PVC-free products, and as the environmental and health costs of PVC are recognized, our alternatives will become more economically viable. For us this was the ignition to do something about it. We have replaced PVC with a safer materia:l a modified recycable polymer. Besides this we went 1 step further, almost the complete range is free of halogens. Signs containing halogens can cause a huge problem, their toxicity of smoke is of highest concern within enclosed spaces, where means of escape by persons are limited; examples include large railcars, ships, and Offshore platforms. In several tragic catastrophes that have happend in last recent years people have been killed by toxic fumes. We took the challenge and developed our new range of photolume signage. Today we are ready. We finalised our signage and can inform Users througout the world we have Signage which is Halogen & PVC free and is even lastingup to 5 times longer than common signs . Using new materials and techniques helped us to achieve innovative Signs which are also economical to buy and they even look better. Our range of Low Location Light Systems is Wheelmark approved by DNV with Module B&D for IMO applications. The products comply with USCG regulations. Our Light Line signage comes with a 10 year guarantee for outdoor applications. All products are designed and created by specialists who are more than 20 year in the Safety Sign business and have track references in leading projects like major Airports ( Schiphol, Zurich), Shipyards ( STX, Fosen), Cruise & Ferry liners like ( QM2, Fjordlines, DFDS etc).

Services T-ISS is a specialist for LLL Systems on Cruiseliners & Ferries. Regulations: IMO & Solas regulations require that ships carrying more than 36 passengers shall be fitted with Low Location Lighting. Resolution A.752(18) & ISO15370 details system requirements and testing procedures. The installed material must be wheelmark approved. All escape routes, including stairs, must be marked by LLL. Where stairs or corridors are more than 2m wide, LLL strips should be provided on both sides. 'Exit' signs should be provided at each exit, located on the same side as the door handle. Fire and watertight doors should be marked to show how the door opens. The supplier should ensure that sufficient light is available to activate the photoluminescent material to attain this performance. Systems must have their luminescence tested at least once every 5 years. The supplier & installer must supply a LLL instruction manual and guideline book as well as an installation plan. Self Adhesive Tape LLL System: This the easiest & most cost effective system to install requiring only the application of the tape to the bulkhead and the positioning of LLL signs at the appropriate places. Our strips having a silver lining at top and bottom of the strip for giving an optical attractive view ( it looks that the strips are inside a profile) LLL Profile System: This system comprises of an extruded aluminum carrier and rigid photoluminescent strips. Our standard is an angle profile with a 50mm wide visible strip material. The performance of the rigid panels is certified by DNV. Installation is simple. The carrier is fixed to the surface with adhesive foam tape. Our engineers and designers also create other shaped LLL systems according to the demands of shipowners, yards and architects. Profile sizes and colours can be easily changed. photoluminescent strips are different‌. Our materials are reverse printed in order to prevent damages to the photoluminescent layer this for easy cleaning and as a site effect its also nicer to see.. Shipowners, Yards, Architects should always discuss with us in order to find the optimised solution for the design and quality of the Low Location Light which is gonna be installed on board your Cruise or Ferryship.

Engineering

IMO Solas requires the control of your installed photolume Low Location Light systems every 5 years by an accredited service company. In relation to this, find below information about services offered by T-ISS. T-ISS, and several partners, are specialists which are certified by DNV for installation, replacement and efficiency measurements of LLL systems. T-ISS know how and expertise in this business area, create the possibility for the client to be an excellent partner when choosing new LLL systems, refurbishing them or when you simply want to know how reliable the already installed systems are. A lot of ferries & cruiseships built before the year 2001 have photoluminescent systems based upon a technology using low quality materials. This means that the glowing performance is fading away through the years and will not work accordingly with the respective regulations 3 up till 5 years after installation. Therefore, when looking for replacement or installation of new LLL measurements, feel more than free to contact T-ISS and we will be glad to be of service. Our qualified technicians can check out your Vessel within a day or 2 and can immidiatly inform if the installed system is fullfilling the minimum requirements. All details will be reported in a socalled LLL logbook. If a system is not according the standards we will provide a costefficient quotation taking into consideration all aspects what need to be done in order to comply asap with the regulations.

Refurbishments Cruise & Ferry ships build before 2001 often have Low Location Light Systems which are made of ZnS- Photoluminescent materials. These materials degrade in time and will discolo. There maximum lifetime is approx 10 years. After this period they need to be replaced. One often can see this very clearly as below picture is illustrating. The strips will get darker, will eventually turn brown and at that time it is not working at all anymore. After the year 2000 most producers started to use a new generation photolume materials based upon Rare-Earth/ Al materials. These products have a lifetime of more than 30 to 40 years. Once a LLL system need to be replaced be sure to use these materials in order not to replace it again within the next 10 years. .

New Old

The picture on the left shows a staircase of a cruiseship. The installed LLL system was just 5 years old before allready needed replacement. The old material was a Zincsulfide LLL system and in the staircase heavily exposed to direct sunlight. This caused an accelarated decrease of the quality. Product was replaced by T-ISS with a new photoluminescent material which is allready 5 years onboard now and show after latest measurement excellent results same as day of installation and no decrease in quality or discolouring can be seen.

Some vessels sometimes need an upgrade of there Low Location Light system due to the fact that the installed system is not working properly anymore, or is damaged. These upgrades and or replacement, can be a very costly procedure which needs qualified staff and special tools. Often old systems need to be replaced and new model needs to be installed, history has learned that this procedure is more costly than installing a total new system. T-ISS has over the last decade developed a method where one can save the costly removal of old system. T-ISS created a method to upgrade existing LLL systems in a very economic method. If a LLL system needs to be replaced, T-ISS engineers come a board, they measure the existing system, calculate needed materials and sizes and go back to their homeoffice. Here engineers produce the required quality and quantity in self adhesive sheets. These sheets are special cutted in order to fit exactly in LLL system which is on board the ship. Once product is ready a T-ISS engineer comes onboard and together with the crew replaces the complete LLL system. In general this work can be executed within a week if a T-ISS engineer works together with 4 / 5 crewmembers. The T-ISS engineer will instruct the crew how to replace this and will also make the necessary signage and measurements in order to have all documents finalised during the installation period. Below pictures illustrates a crewmember of a cruiseliner replacing a LLL system. Before replacement

Emergency Light Refurbishement Since Cruise & Ferry Vessels have a service lifetime off over 30 years, it is necessary that during this period the Emergency Light Units on regular base are inspected and refurbished if necessary. During launch of the Ship and scrap of the ship standards of Symbols, Illumination and other aspects may be changed. This can result in modification of the Lightmodules.

Old

Examples are like following: * Upgrade in technology switch from normal to halogen or LED lightning is necessary.

New

* Exchange of symbols due to changing regulation. * Exchange of Lightcovers due to discoloring. * Repositioning of Exits or Safety equipment

T-ISS is specialised in checking out and replace emergency lightning. Our qualified engineers will come aboard inspect and evaluate the options with your staff. Once all issues are discussed and quote and installationplan will follow. T-ISS also upgrades existing modules which can saves cost. Although there is no regulation we feel that at least very 5 year the emergency light system must be inspected if it is still to the standards and that no changes are needed.
