Welcome to the 2012 “Blue Collar Bull Sale.” What a time to be in the cattle business. With market prices the highest they’ve been in years, “Optimism” has never been higher. Now, just because the markets are so strong does not mean that you, as producers, should develop the attitude that you can let your quality slide and still receive a dividend. It is in your best interest to add quality individuals with as much information as possible to your operations. The Blue Collar group has taken this to heart so along with EPD’s and Performance Data, you will also find Carcass Data. This is a tool that allows you to have a look “Under the Hide” and see what your next herd sire can add to his progeny. The more you stock the desirable traits you are after, the more cattle buyers and feeders will realize what returns them more profit, which will keep them coming back to you. If you are not familiar with how to interpret this information, contact Troy, Scott or Jordan and they would be more than happy to assist you. Once again this year, you will find a select group of yearling heifers, available for your inspection. These heifers are selected to carry the same desirable traits as the bulls offered today and will be an asset to your operation. The bulls have been developed at their respective homes and are available for viewing at any time or the day before the sale, in Yorkton. The Blue Collar group would be more than happy to show you their offering and help you in any way they can with your selections. If you need any assistance, don’t hesitate to call one of the Blue Collar group, OBI or any of the sale staff and we would be more than happy to help. See you in Yorkton, April 14. On behalf of OBI, Bob Toner We would like to welcome you to the 6th Annual Blue Collar Bull Sale. Each spring, we as cattle producers all look forward to the stuffed mail boxes full of bull sale catalogues. During those evenings on the recliner between cow checking times, we look through each sale catalogue seeking new and exciting genetics or proven and trusted genetics. Each catalogue contains a variety of tools for us to utilize to select our next potential herd sire or sires. We look at pictures, analyze the numbers and critique the footnotes the breeder has written on each bull/heifer. Each of these tools is important in our analysis and evaluation of future breeding stock. We analyze all the data at great lengths as the right selection(s) is extremely important to our bottom line. Even with the entire cattle industry on the upswing we need to continue to improve what we are doing and not settle for just good enough. The Blue Collar Bull Sale group has been working very hard to provide new and fresh genetics as well as tried and true ones for all our past and future customers. Our sale offering is the result of our pursuit of “Honest, hard working cattle that’ll get’er done”. Our herds are being maintained and built on our cow herds. All quality products are created from a strong foundation, hard work and an efficient, productive factory-our cows. Our bulls come from the best cows and genetics we can find and raise. The Blue Collar herds are being built on consistent cow families. Good cows have good calves. Each year we bring bulls to town that are the best we have. They are feed grain and hay which are tested and analyzed to create a balance ration to maximize feed efficiency, promote growth, testicle and semen development, grow good hair coats and provide longevity. The bulls are held in large pens or pastures for ample exercise and roaming. We all have young families and our cattle need to be content around children. Cattle that are easy to handle are essential in all our operations; therefore, good temperament in all our bulls is a must. The Blue Collar Bull Sale Group would like to thank the following for their contribution to the success of our sale: - Everyone who attended last year’s sale, our bidders and buyers. - All our friends and family who helped us before, during and after the sale. - All our sponsors-We do business with all of them and recommend you give them a try, too. - To OBI and the Heartland Staff’s for their work on our sale. This year we will sadly and respectfully miss Sheldon Nicholson. Sheldon was with us and there for us since we had our first sale. He led and supported us as an advisor, auctioneer, supporter and friend. Sheldon did a great deal for Heartland and the community of Yorkton. His sudden passing was shocking and difficult for all of us. We offer our condolences to his family and the Heartland community. Consider this your invitation to come to Heartland in Yorkton on Friday, April 13th from 6:30-8:00 PM for a viewing of the bulls, food and fellowship and to the sale on Saturday, April 14th at 11:00 AM for lunch and to view the bulls and at 1:00 PM for the sale. Please feel free to contact any one of us for more information or stop by our farms to view the bulls prior to the sale. See at the Sale Blue Collar Sale Group
