ZhongShan Building The Zhongshan building is a thriving creative hub as well as an urban rejuvenation project supported by Think City and led by art consultants Liza Ho and Snow Ng, who both have years of experience in the local arts and culture scene.

Given ZhongShan Building as our site for Final Year Project, I have delved into it with my passion on music. There is where I started with my narrative story telling for Phase 1. To link with my passion on music with ZhongShan Building, I visualized the ZhongShan Building as an orchestra and I created a mini music city. In my drawing, there are having different types of musical instruments which represented the different types of shop in the ZhongShan Building, including the art and design, music, food & beverages, library & book stores, bespoke and specialty stores, etc. When everything is combined, like the sound and conversation from the shops, it created a harmonious musical song piece to the space! With these ideas in my mind, I have come out with the outcome of a mini ZhongShan music city which showing on the next slide!

Desire A Wild Reverie

PHASE 2

Music Playground Music Playground is a platform for the children from age 4 to 12 to learn and play the different types of musical instruments which included the music orchestra family of string, woodwind, brass and percussion. There is also having a digital piano keyboard for the children to step on it and produce the music melody. The playground consists of 4 platforms with different sizes and height levels and the children can get up to the peak level by taking the step platform from the entrance or in the middle gold horn shape building inspired by the trumpet instrument and slide down happily. The floor pattern on the large platform is inspired by the music beats and soundwave in a circular way.

The materials are mainly metal steel brass which represent the musical instruments material and color tone is in vibrant and rainbow which create a happy atmosphere for the children to interact with the space for better learning and playing with music. There is also having a lot of horn shape speaking tubes here and there which provides a fun experience for the children to listen the voice from the speaking tubes and communicate with each other. When all the musical instruments are played together by the children, the music playground will turn to be an ‘orchestra’ with harmonizing melody song piece!

Final On the Final Review Day, I have arranged my works of Phase 1 & Phase 2 in this simple way.

Unfortunately, I didnt manage to present my works to the review panels as I was having sore throut and my voice was not in good condition for presentation. Thus, I have no other option but to accept whatever grade and feedback given by the review panels by just looking at my works without any description.

It’s a WRAP of my AIAD1...

Reflection

For Phase 1, I have come up with an art piece of drawing resembled a mini music city.

Although it’s not perfect, I appreciated the progress where I learnt a lot during tutorial and improved on my Photoshop skills to the final outcome of my work! The were many challenging parts I faced while doing the drawing. Firstly, I found hard to decide which musical instruments to represent what types of shops in the ZhongShan Building. Secondly, how can I utilize and create space in the musical instruments creatively and more interesting. Next, it was the overall composition of all the musical instruments on the music sheets which was the most difficult and time-consuming part. Lastly, it was the coloring part for the entire drawing.

Things were getting harder in Phase 2, I have undergone 2 times of redoing the 3d of my space and finally, I have come up with the idea of music playground as a platform for children to learn and play with music. The challenging part was that I only have approximately 3 weeks’ time to redo my 3d with this new idea of music playground. If there was more time for me, I would improvise my design and try to produce a better outcome for my Phase 2.

All in all, I have learnt a lot and improved my skills on Photoshop and Sketchup 3d modelling skills in this semester. I would like to thank to my dear lecturers Mr Vickram and Ms Aishah for guiding me through this semester and giving me support in order to make me feel a little bit confident to my works and I will try my very best for the final semester!
