Transition to Dutch and Irish Season

Over the next few weeks, we will begin to transition away from Spanish originated products to Irish and Dutch products. Our Irish growers will begin to supply various lettuce products throughout May and June. Irish strawberries are also on track to begin mid-May. More long term, we expect Irish raspberries, celery and broccoli to begin in June. Our Spanish citrus will also be transitioning to Southern Hemisphere fruits in May while our avocados will also be moving away from Winter season origins to Summer season: we are expecting to have very consistent quality and internal pressures for our Ready to Eat avocados.

Chilean Onions

Chilean onions are now in stock and available to order. Sysco code 493429

Strawberries

Irish strawberries are due to commence next week with the aim of all volumes being Irish in the next two to three weeks. In the meantime, some product may still be imported while we wait for the volume of Irish strawberries to increase to the point where demand can be completely fulfilled.

Potential for limited supply here across the next two weeks. Customer impact expected to be minimal.

New Season Potatoes

Planting for new season potatoes is expected to be completed by the end of the coming week. A slight bit of rain experienced in some areas recently was welcomed by growers as conditions have been extremely dry.

Shortages expected due to extreme wet weather in Spain.

Sugarsnap & Mangetout

Sugarsnap and Mangetout supply is expected to improve from next week. Quality and availability are improving. The new season product is starting to arrive from source countries in greater volumes, helping to alleviate the recent shortages that have been experienced.

Chervil
Tenderstem Broccoli

Recent supply issues and shortages across the range of chilli products has subsided. Availability has improved and is in a much stronger place.

Salad Potatoes

The current salad potato season is due to finish up soon. There are no availability issues forecasted however it may be possible that the quality is slightly diminished on occasion due to the age of the potatoes. Additional checks and grading is being put in place to ensure customers receive the best quality product possible.

Avocado

Blood Oranges

The season for blood oranges has now finished and no more stock is available.

Melons

Poor weather conditions in recent weeks has led to shortages across watermelons, galia melons, cantaloupe melons and honeydew melons. This has led to an early end to the Central American season. On a positive note, we are beginning to see significant improvements as we transition to the Almeria region in Spain as a primary source.

Currently transitioning from winter origins (Northern Hemisphere) to summer origins (Southern Hemisphere). As a result, there is a challenge with the consistency of internal pressures on our RTE avocados. We are working closely with our supplier to limit the impact to the end customer as much as possible however there is a possibility we will see more inconsistent pressures for the next few weeks.
