TEAM REPORTS Seniors

Vanessa leaves the field in spectacular fashion Another fun year coaching the W37B team. We lost a couple of players from last year due to long term injuries, however a few new players really proved an asset and more than filled the whole that was left. I think everyone would agree that we had massive improvement and more importantly a whole lot of laughs along the way. A few players were given new positions and as a whole I think those players slotted into those spots really well. We managed a few wins and with a bit of luck we could have converted a few of the 6 draws that we had during the year. Unfortunately we were also short regularly at the end of the year due to a lot of family holidays seeming to fall at the same time and also a couple of injuries which can be expected after a hard year. I'm sure that if we had fielded our full team during the last 6 weeks we would have managed a couple of more wins. Special mention has to go to everyone in the team that no matter what the conditions always did the best they could. With no reserves and 60 minutes into a game it was very encouraging to watch the ladies still running as hard as they could no matter how much they just Picture by Bill Karayannis wanted to have a rest. Highlight of the year: Beating the minor premiers in the last round with no The Girls play Bosco at Boystown reserves and them having a full team with 5 reserves. It made for a really enjoyable end of year drink after the game. Thanks to Jim for helping every week and to Kathy for supplying those all important oranges each week. Big thanks again to Pam for her Management skills and for being there early at every game to fill out match cards. (The one time I did it we copped a fine for it being wrong). I will leave the awards to the end of year trip, however it was a close race and there were 7 players in the mix for player of the year with 5 rounds to play. Next year we will be looking to crack into that top 4 so we can have a taste of finals football.

PREMIERS

After 2 successful campaigns with back to back premierships, hopes were high again this year even knowing we were going up 2 grades. We had recruited well in the off-season welcoming Sam, Takos and Dario to the team. Unfortunately, we were hit early with the heavy news Kane had snapped his ACL, so he became an invaluable member of the coaching staff. The early season saw the team settling on a few positional changes and formations. Buss, Pj and Aleks formed the backbone of the best defence in the league again. Justin, Rob, Sam and Mitch dominated the centre of the park every game and were asked to play in almost every position during the year. By the middle of year we had found our feet and were sitting in the top four but were down on squad members with serious injuries to Nathan and Jim and also with Quin struggling with pain each week. But our fearless leader Burdo, rallied the team together and we got through a rough patch with the boys coming back from injury in time for our run into the finals. Pete, Josh, Dario
