PRESIDENT’S REPORT
RUSS STRUDWICK JAMES SHEARER PRESIDENT
I said last year “It’s been a year like no other !!” In 2021 COVID again continued to upset the plans and throw our season into disarray. After the season that was 2020, everyone was looking forward to a return to normal, even the new normal, and with NSW seemingly on top of COVID, that’s how the season started.
We opened registrations on time, then the normal mayhem commenced as we stepped through a long, long pre-season; registration, grading, forming and submitting teams and then into training. Grading under the watchful eyes of head of grading Jason McGregor is always a thorough and dedicated process. SHFC prides itself on its grading policy. From U8 to u15 we grade everyone, every year to give the best results for the kids. After grading there was a gap, with the season proper commencing 4 weeks late following a delayed finish to 2020. The mutterings were there. After 2020, everyone from the U6s to the O45s just wanted to get on to the park and play, then finally after Easter break it happened, season underway! But WAIT. As the season got under way we did it. We registered our 700th player for the year, making it the equal highest ever number of players at SHFC in its’ 63 years.
“It’s this time as you watch the smiling faces as a team of kids come off the park and head to the canteen, smiling & yelling that makes the work of the committee worthwhile” Picture by Finain Byrne
Once we get going the nerves settle, the coaches take charge (and the managers) the kids start smiling and the parents relax. It’s this time as you watch the smiling faces as a team of kids come off the park and head to the canteen, smiling & yelling that makes the work of the committee worthwhile. The committee though small is a busy and well oiled machine. With canteen, BBQ, sorting and coaching the Mini Roos refs, marking fields, setting up and taking down. They are the ones there on the weekends from 0630 till 1700 making sure the games get on. It’s the hundreds of hours of unseen effort that makes this great club tick. Please give them a wave, a smile. Even better, join up and come and help. We need more members. No skills only passion for the world game required. 2 months in to the season and suddenly we are worried. Bondi has a DELTA case loose, it grows quickly and within a few days sport is cancelled. Maybe a fortnight or 3 weeks we wish for hopefully but alas, soon it is Sydney wide stay home orders again
TRIBUTE
(that will last till Dec) After 6 weeks the SSFA called a meeting and the vote was clear. The season was cancelled. Again our season end is in shambles. No semis. No grand finals, no more state cup or champions of champions. No presentation day, SIGH, and kids are forced to stay home. Minor Premiers were named as the season finished. At SHFC we our 2 teams that were on top Congrats to our W13A: 11 games, 11 wins and our O35D 9 games, 8 wins, 1 draw These 2 teams also took out the Junior and Senior club champions, with the U15Ds right in the mix taking the intermediate club champions The W13A also took home the coveted OVERALL CLUB CHAMPION team. Congrats to the girls. The season though was not all about the football. We celebrated Women in football round, and officially opened our new female change rooms and facilities completed from a recent grant. With the weekend pink lines, pink balls, pink wrapping on the goal posts, it was a testament to our strong girls teams. At the same time we celebrated the news that came out of the blue that at SHFC we had the ‘most experienced’ female footballer registered not just in Sutherland, not Sydney, nor NSW, but the whole of Australia. Our very own Carol Askew was recognised on by FNSW and a TV documentary ’73 not out’ as well as a presentation at our grounds. Coupled with this, our W7s had grown this year to 5 full teams. Our next group of budding Matildas is coming through our ranks.
The business at our grounds continues even as the soccer doesn’t. At the time of writing, the Sylvania Heights Community and Youth Club Committee are finalising the plans for the new soccer fields. When completed the SHFC facilities will be the envy of the shire. There has been a huge amount of work go on for nearly 2 years by the dedicated team at the Sylvania Heights Community and Youth Club. Well Done ! As we go to press, our summer competition for both juniors and seniors has started before Christmas so we can all loose those covid kilos. As I write this the season of 2022 rapidly
VALE OLIVERA KEREMELEVSKI In August of this year, the club lost one of our long term soccer parents. Olivera Keremelevski, passed away on August 21, after a battle with cancer. Oli, a Liverpool FC supporter like the rest of her football dedicated family, was, over the years, a regular face on the sidelines at Tree Stadium. First for supporting sons Joshua and Matthew and in recent years for daughter Cloe. Olivera is survived by her three children and husband Steve. Oli will always be remembered for her big heart and caring smile, her strength and devotion to her family. SHFC sends its sincere condolences to Steve, Joshua , Matthew and Cloe in the knowledge that the impact and friendships she made with many of our club members over the years will not be forgotten.

SYLVANIA HEIGHTS FOOTBALL CLUB 2021 YEARBOOK
2021 COMMITTEE approaches. Trials for the respective representative teams will soon happen, and I wish all our players trialing the very best. Whilst we will miss those who leave us we will celebrate your success. To our sponsors, who in this tough year have stayed with us and continued their support, a huge thanks, without the extra money coming from these wonderful companies, this club, like many, would struggle. To our major sponsor; Donna, Sue and her team at Donna EtchellsMcGrath Partners - thank you. To our other sponsors SPT Insurance Brokers, we thank you for your support and wonderful gesture of providing every coach in the club one of our new jackets. Looking smart Coaches.
To the wonderful hard working committee, a huge thanks for the work of the year. Each in their own way kept the place ticking along and contributed to the success the season became. Well done to Bronwen Curtis, assistant registrar and canteen manager who received the club person of the year award and Jason McGregor, head of Grading, and U18B coach receiving the presidents award. Thank you both for your efforts. To all the mums and dads that help out each week doing duties on BBQ, canteen, grounds and working bees. Thank you. The club doesn’t function without you and we would love to see new faces join our committee and help out. The AGM was upon us and even though I have only been President for 2 years, I thought it was time. With much increased work commitments including work travel (maybe) and another season coming with both my kids playing reps, I made the decision to step down and take a much lesser role. I have handed the baton to one of those people who the saying ‘One of natures gentleman’ was made for. Welcome Steve Stav. You’ll be great. Bring on Season 2022! James Shearer President

FEMALE FOOTBALL WEEK
On 8 May 2021, Sylvania Heights Football Club threw its support behind Football NSW's Female Football Week as a great day of activation was seen, promoting the women's game. Pink ribbons, pink goals and even pink line markings! A plentiful supply of pink cupcakes kept everyone happy! The Club also used Female football week to officially unveil their new Female change rooms. The change rooms were officially opened by State Member for Miranda Eleni Petinos MP. Also on hand were Sydney FC WLeague Player Angelique Hristodoulou, herself a Sylvania Heights FC club junior and Sylvania Heights Senior Womens’ Player and Club life member Carol Askew, who at 73 years of age is the oldest registered female football player in Australia. The new change rooms were a major component of improvements made across the club building using grant monies awarded through the NSW Government’s “My Community project” initiative. “My Community Project” provided local communities with the opportunity to propose and then vote for new projects in their local area. The Club received the most votes in the Miranda Electorate and secured $200,000 to undertake these improvements. The Clubs efforts were also acknowledged by FNSW who were on hand to cover the day. MAKING THE GRADE JASON MCGREGOR
HEAD OF GRADING Long before the season opens and we welcome neighbouring clubs to Box Road, a committee of SHFC’s most experienced and dedicated football coaches get together to plan and organise the SHFC Grading process. SHFC aims to develop every player, regardless of natural ability, to be the best footballer they can be, and the Grading process is critical to achieving that aim. Whilst we look to group our Mini Roos teams together based on social or friendship circles once they reach Under 8’s it is time to start challenging players and grading them on ability. That’s where the hard work of the SHFC grading panel comes in. Over 2 weekends in February, the SHFC Grading Panel spent 480 man hours, running 72 games of soccer, observing 462 players, and ultimately created 52 teams filled with our wonderful SHFC junior players. I would like to thank the coaches and managers for completing the End of Year Player Assessments which is a valuable resource for the grading process. But of course, enormous thanks must be given to the dedicated Grading Panel team who so CAROL2 entire weekends, (in unselfishly donated either blistering heat or driving rain) to ensure our junior players have the best footballing experience possible. Thank You : Matthew Hughes, Ben Weldon, Aiman Gouda, Dave Allen, Kristy Farr, Lisa Bacon, Steve Webster, Wayne Bush, Cameron Byrne, Steve Stavropoulos, Chris Plakias, Magnus Petersson, Troy Davis, George Mihailou, Michael Barker and James Shearer. MINI ROOS REFEREES MATT HUGHES MINI ROOS REFEREE CO-ORDINATOR The 2021 season may have been cut short but it did not stop the development of Mini roos refereeing at SHFC. Once again the club had a great take up from our players to come and lead the Mini Roos games on a Saturday morning and what a fantastic job our young referees did. The season started with our usual training night at pre-season and before we knew it we were off on round one. In 2021 our team took charge of 14 rounds and 218 games across the u6 to u11 age groups. I can honestly say that I continue to be so impressed with application of our young referees. I have received many compliments across the season on the standard of refereeing at SHFC. It is a real credit to all the young referees and the parents that support them. This year we had 21 refs of which 12 were new recruits. As I look back at the season I can reflect and see how much each Referee has developed in confidence, ability on the pitch and their ability to communicate and make decisions. The program really does wonders for young people in so many ways. 2021 saw a significant rise in female referees. 1/3 of our refs were female and what great role models they have been for our very young Mini Roos to look up to. To have this within our club is extremely important and I look forward to building on this in the coming years.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the committee members that have helped mentor and guide the refs through the season. It is a real team effort. Also, a huge thank you to all the parents that help ensure we have refs at the games every week on time and prepared ready for action. Please remember that without referees there are no games. Once again thank you to all involved and I look forward to seeing you all once again at Box Rd. Matt Hughes Mini Roos Referee Co-Ordinator

TEAM REPORTS Mini Roos
L to R: Bella, Bronte, Jordan and Klaudia from W9A Picture by Finian Byrne
What a great start to their soccer careers, 2021 was a season that started on a real high. From the moment these boys got together at their first trial/club grading day, we could see we had a special and somewhat super energetic team. They clicked from the get go and we could see right away that we’d have our hands full keeping this dynamic bunch of boys in line and focused on football but we enjoyed every minute of it. A big highlight for me was the fun training sessions and ball mastery skills, placing obstacles and running drills with the boys and watching their development throughout the year. Keeping most of them apart, moving the cones or kicking the balls away was a challenge at times…lol, but I wouldn’t change it one bit, they always put a smile on my face. Thankfully I was also wonderfully supported by Eloi our team manager and we were both of the same mindset that improving each players technical ability and skills with the ball, was paramount and stood above all as to how we wanted the boys to play. For us results didn’t matter as long as the boys were improving. We started the season off on fire and throughout the year we definitely had a few ups and downs, had a few losses but plenty of wins, some tough and at times very rough games, but above all we know the boys had fun. It has been a real joy to watch these boys play their little hearts out and improve each week. Courageous, tough and amazing to watch on the ball, little Fernando was a stand out. No matter the opposition he always seemed to score brilliant goals. Jude’s enthusiasm and commitment to win the ball and work tirelessly for his team was fantastic, his focus at training and interest in what we were teaching him helped him improve immensely. Miké’s speed and cheekiness on the field as well as at training always kept me on my toes, I had him believe he was a Lamborghini in order to get him to score some goals, I always knew what to do to get him going. Two of our toughest players week in week out were Nate and Back Row L to R: Nick Vacondios (Coach), Eloi Da Costa (Manager) Haarlem, both players would get stuck into everything. One of Front Row L to R: Rhys Vacondios, Nate Waters, Haarlem Masau, Jude Wilkins, the highlights of the season for me was Nate’s birthday man Fernando Da Costa, Nico Rizzo Absent: Mike Samios of the match performance. that day he had super powers. He dominated the field and was amazing to watch. Haarlem was always so dynamic and full of energy, effortlessly defending and attacking and doing as much as he could every week for the team. Little Nico was truly fearless, despite being one of the smallest on the field, he always managed to somehow break away and bag a few goals. Finally Rhys, he was at times our rock at the back. Defensively very solid and he seemed to have a real knack of timing his tackles to perfection, using his speed to cover and stop any opposition attacks. Thank you to all the boys, we’re all super proud of you.Once again to Eloi and to all the parents for their commitment and sideline support, thank you, and may we look forward to a bigger and better year next year. Go the Trees.

What a fantastic bunch of boys. The Under U6B2 Sylvania Trees team consisted of Harley, Liam, Oliver, Bentley, Damien, Louis and Jonathon – most of whom were playing a team sport for the first time in their young lives. One thing is for sure, there was never a dull moment when it came to this fantastically unruly bunch of young boys. Was there tears? Yes. Did we always run in the correct direction? No. Did we sometimes miss tackles because we were wrestling each other in the middle of the game? Yes. Did we ALWAYS follow the coaches’ instructions? Absolutely not. Did we make the parents age a few years every Saturday? Yes. Did we laugh? Yes. Did we make new friends? Yes. Did we have fun? YES! Would we change a single thing? Not a chance. Despite the season being cut short, Saturday mornings were absolutely the highlight of the week for myself, the parents and especially the players. Seeing their huge smiles and bursting energy every Saturday morning was absolutely priceless. Many of these boys started the season with little to no footballing experience and to watch their skills develop was amazing and made me very proud. Here is a couple of nicknames below to help you get to know the boys a little better: Johnathon: Mr Dependable – A coaches’ delight. Johnathon was often the only player listening to the coach’s instructions and always gave 100% effort at training and during the matches. He kept me sane. Bentley: Bacon and Egg Boy – Bentley was a strong defensive minded player with a huge boot on him. However, from time to time, Bentley would sub himself off for a mid-game bacon and egg sandwich. Athletes need energy. Oliver: Mr Improved – Oliver approached every game and training with a smile that could light up the world and made so much amazing improvement across the season.
Harley: The Destroyer – Trust me, you did not want to be on the receiving end of one of Harley’s crunching slide tackles. Damien: The Golden Boot – Damien could score goals from anywhere on the field, and did. He finished goals with the composure many adult footballers could only dream of possessing. Liam: Liam ‘The Other Way!’ Haritos – If you managed to get Liam running in the right direction, he was unstoppable. Louis: The Brick Wall – Always running back in defence and demolishing anyone who tried to get anywhere near our goal. We had a great season, and I hope for many more amazing memories next season. TEAM REPORTS Mini Roos What a short but sweet season our little U6 year old champions had considering it was their first time playing soccer together and for most of them, in a team environment. They braved the early, cold, windy Winter morning games and showed so much commitment turning up each week to training, even when the dirt pile was all they felt like playing in. We encouraged them to always have fun each week rather than focusing on the score at the end and we did manage to win 1 game during the season which really gave our boys a boost and helped them grasp the concept of the game. They gave us so many laughs and proud, memorable moments such as their group chats on the field, all swarming towards and around the ball in their first few games. Tom all in his stride running off the field to grab a bite of his egg and bacon roll every 2 minutes then going back on. Kyle and Andre finding dirt atches together on the field then the ball would just seem to come to them., Never enough oranges at half time for Noah our power kicker. Patrick playing goal keeper/ fielder and scorer all at once and Cooper and Malykai never gave up on kicking for our goals. It was a great team effort from all of the boys each week. On behalf of the Parents and myself, a big thank you to Coach Mark and Assistant Coach Michael for your guidance, patience, encouragement and support you gave to the boys.

Another COVID challenging season completed. I would like to start by saying thank you to all the girls, Manager Kelly and the parents for a wonderful year. Without the experience of Kelly and her great communication to the group I would have forgotten plenty along the way so thank you again. Thank you to all the parents for always offering your services for Canteen Duty, BBQ, Ground Setup and providing the weekly fruit break at halftime. For many of the girls it was their first introduction into Soccer and so there was a big emphasis on learning the basics but most of all having fun. I quickly worked out that Zappos or some form of canteen lolly managed to get the girls motivated at training. All 7 of the girls brought something different to the group and I loved watching their development every week as individuals and as a team. We may not have won every game of Soccer but I know we won the cartwheeling and handstand competitions. I would like to say a few words about all of my superstars. Anastacia was one of the most improved players in the team. As the season went on she started to show a real understanding of the game and the rules. Anastacia has a big future on and off the pitch. You were a pleasure to coach and a credit to your parents. Thanks for my Zappos! Arabella showed fantastic defensive ability and saved lots of goals with her last line never say die attitude. Arabella was also great at leading the team stretches, making sure we all warmed up before training and on game day. You had a great first season Arabella! Keeva was another one of our most improved players this season. Keeva has a lot of ability and a determination to match. Keeva was great in defence and always tried her best on the field. Back Row: Kelly Crawley (Manager) She also formed some great friendships during the season which Front Row L to R: Scarlett Crawley, Courtney Sarkis, Mae Huang, Katelin Richards , was great to see. Keeva Kennedy, Anastasia Lee, Absent: Chris Arnold (Coach), Arabella Arnold Kaitlin was one of our first time players this season, she developed her skills and grew in confidence with each game. Kaitlin is a real team player and her commitment at training and on game day was fantastic. Well done Kaitlin! Scarlett came into the season with previous playing experience and we relied on her often when the game was on the line. Scarlett has a competitive edge better than most and we were at our best when she was on the field. Great season Scarlett! Mae was another one with previous Soccer experience. She has wonderful ball control and the ability to kick hard and straight. Mae was a pleasure to coach and the team was better for having her in it. Courtney is a very complete player. She has great balance, speed and strength. Coutrney had some fantastic moments on the field and I look forward to seeing her continued growth next season. Courtney also showed great commitment and team work. Well done on a great season! Success for me is measured through seeing all the girls return next season so hopefully they enjoyed themselves enough to do it all again next year. Thanks again to the team for a wonderful season. Lyla you love to compete for everything on the field, scoring some great goals, stopping goals, nonstop running for that ball. Incredible effort! Georgia never giving up chasing that ball from the front to the back, scoring amazing goals from halfway, defending and helping your team out whenever it was needed. Great effort! Madeline never giving up on defending your line, even if it means defending while on the ground! You love to protect your goals and saved some awesome goals this year. Amazing job! Katie your confidence has grown throughout the year. You have a great kick on you which helped you clear the ball to set up some goals for your team. Well done! Ashleigh showing massive improvement with your skills and not afraid to hustle to get that ball. We can see your confidence growing with each game! Thank you to the parents and grandparents for all of your efforts to make sure the girls made it to training and games. This year has had its’ challenges and we truly thank you for your support. Second year together big fella as coach and manager, I just wanted to say again a special thank you to Brett our manager. Your ongoing organization of game day preparations, time keeping, making sure all the girls have a fair go and continuing to support me and the team whenever it was needed. We couldn’t do this without you! Now for the most important part, onto our little soccer superstars. Firstly, Bronte we can see your passion and love for the game! You can and will compete in every position to help the team out. Your ball control and soccer skills are outstanding, and again that ball strike and power is incredible. The sky’s the limit for you Bronte. Mariana you definitely found your position in the backline, frightening the other team to even run at you. You’re so strong with great ball control and awareness of when to dribble or clear the ball down the line for your team. You improved greatly this year, can’t wait to see what’s next for you. Josephine my amazing striker that looms around the front waiting to strike for goal. You have so much speed, beating Back Row L to R: Andrew Constantinidis (Coach), Klaudia Hristopanos, Abigail Lamb, all the players to the ball and scoring some cracker goals this year. It shows your confidence growing in Mariana Constantinidis, Brett Davis (Manager) the game and big things are coming your way. Front Row L to R: Eleanor Hughes , Bronte Byrne, Josephine Davis, Klaudia your confidence has grown as a defender, Jordan Mihaczi, Bella Parker clearing that ball and attacking the line whenever you get a chance with great hustle on one-on-one tackles. Your will do anything to help your team out and that is a great quality you have shown this year. Bella showing zero fear and determination, always trying your best to help your team mates on the field. You have a great big kick on you that clears the ball, which is why we can play you in any position. Incredible effort this year, well done. Eleanor your ability to read the game has improved so much over the year, midfield is definitely your position, dribbling around players, passing to your team mates, scoring goals and impressive overall skills that will take your further in this game. Excited to see what’s in store for you. Jordan again keeping myself and Brett on our toes making sure we are focused! You can cover any position on the field from defending to attacking, with your skills improving this year and zero fear to attack that ball which keeps you as our superstar all rounder. We admire your perseverance. Abigail this season you found your place in the goals as our goalkeeper, saving some amazing goals, talking to your defense line getting them into position and staying clam in some intense games. Incredible work this year. We had an outstanding year and I cannot wait till next year, bring on the 10A's.... Andrew Constantinidis Coach

Much like 2020, unfortunately as we know, 2021 was cut short once again due to covid. Overall though I believe it was an enjoyable and memorable year for all involved with our super under W9D’s team. I honestly cannot say enough about these girls, they are all such great kids to teach and are ever so willing to take it all in and learn. We had a hand full of new girls join the team it and I could see from the outset, it was going to be an optimistic year ahead. Bella, Maya, Indi and Yasmina had never played football before but from their first day of training, and their highly contagious enthusiasm for the game, I could see we were in for a great season. Throughout most of our pre-season I tried to get all the girls up to speed with the individual skills, tactics and rules of the game. We worked endlessly on ball control and trying to improve each players skill set with the main focus being on ball mastery and laying a good foundation off the core skills of football, whether it be dribbling, shooting, passing or positional play. I always aimed to train as much as possible with the ball at the players feet and all the girls improved dramatically within a short time. That went for both the girls that had played last year as well as all the new girls. From a competition perspective, we started the season off with a bang, winning our first game of the season at home by 3-0. The sideline support was fantastic and it was a sign of the support we’d have all season. Rain, hail or shine the cheer squad would turn up in droves. From parents to grandparents to siblings, we had by far the best support of any team. We had some wins, we had some losses but I believe above all, we had lots of fun. We played against some great teams, and learnt a lot about playing as a team and about sportsmanship and giving it our best. Isabella was solid at the back as well as in goals, super couraBack Row L to R: Nick Vacondios (Coach), Yasmin Moussa, Bella Hasham, geous, she never stopped working hard for the team. Bella’s close ball control and attacking prowess ensured she scored some Maya Pallister, Nicole Moffatt (Manager) cracking goals throughout the year. Bia was our flying winger, Front Row L to R: Yasmina Brozinsky, Mia Vacondios, always putting in 150% for the team, along with Yasmina who, Bia Constantinidis, Indiana Eggleton, Isabella Moffatt despite being one of the smallest on the field, was fearless and would always be up for every dual. Her work rate and speed was unbelievable. Kristina as always was so reliable and solid at the back and seemed to develop a knack for goalkeeping. Yasmin’s aggression, skills and flamboyancy with and without the ball was a pleasure for any coach to watch, her commitment and hunger to win was amazing. Despite having a bit of bad luck in a couple of games early on, Maya developed into one of our best throughout the year and managed to bag a couple of goals, as did Indi who was our little pocket rocket. She never stopped working for the team and at times, even when substituted, I had to hold her back from jumping on the field due to her excitement and enthusiasm for the game. Finally, Mia was our dynamic and courageous box to box midfielder. Always working hard to provide the attackers with as much ball as possible, scoring a couple herself, as well as helping out in defence when needed. A massive thank you to all parents and to Nicole our team manager for their support throughout the year. Even though the season was cut short, it was a real pleasure coaching and watching these young girls grow and develop as players and I look forward to seeing them next year for a bigger and better year.

The new season saw the return of a majority of the previous year’s players and some new faces, including the coach, joining the squad. The boys bonded from preseason, making the new additions feel welcome and coaching them was an enjoyable experience. Although the team went through the short season without having the pleasure of experiencing a win, the boys always turned up to all the training sessions and matches full of energy, great attitudes and displayed great sportsmanship to the other team each and every time. Andrew is one of our strikers, often in the right spot, troubling the other teams defence and putting away some great goals. Blake, our rock with a big voice in defence, always there to stop the opposition and the first to back up his team mates in any situation. Elias our other striker, with great individual football skills is always getting into the action. Jack our A grade keeper, stopping goals some professionals would struggle to intercept. You know he’s in the perfect position when the opposition’s coaches comment on Jack’s ability as a keeper. Lachlan another of the team’s great defenders, always in the right spot at the right time and finding unique ways to block shots with his whole body. Levi had his first year playing the game. He has shown great improvement since the start of the season. If only he would stop dancing on the pitch. Bailey on the attack Tyson’s individual ability has developed as he has gained confidence. Witnessing the smile on Back Row L to R: Chris Campbell (Coach), Miller Stephen-Messer, Blake Scheuble, Tyson’s face when he pulls off a great passage of play is a pleasure for all. Lachlan Whalen, Andrew Marney, Maria Karavias (Manager) Reilly is one of the team’s twin live-wires, playing Front Row L to R: Levi Campbell, Elias Karavias, Jack Harris, Reilly Stephen-Messer, Tyson Skufris the game with 100% energy at both ends of the pitch each and every game. Miller the other twin live-wire with longer hair, as energetic as his brother and always showing great strategy and passion chasing the ball. Regrettably the 2021 season was cut short but I look forward to seeing them develop as players and a team when they return for the 2022 season.

What a season! We have had the privilege to coach, manage and watch these amazing young ladies develop each week both individually and as a team. The W10A’s faced a lot of new changes after combining 6 players from the W9A’s and 7 players from the W9C’s 2020 teams. Not only did they need to get to know each other, they now had to contend with a larger field and were put straight in the W10A’s (a tough task). After a very difficult start to the season (5 losses in a row), things finally started coming together and the girls learned their positions and started playing as a team. They always showed up to both training and our games with a positive attitude. Our girls improved not only their ball skills, but their understanding of the game. We finished the season off with 2 wins, 3 draws and 6 losses and I have no doubts we would have won many more if we had been able to finish the season. We are so proud of the effort and commitment of each and every player and it showed it how much they improved. Well done girls! 2021 was a great but short year. The boys started in the Bs and did themselves proud against decent opposition. C grade saw the boys go undefeated winning every game and play some great football. Andrew was Mr Reliable always playing a high standard of football. Adam showed his outstanding technical ability and set up a bunch of goals. Bryce scored some great goals and made some great runs down the wing. Beau was tenacious in defence and made some great passes. Flynn dazzled the opposition with his fancy footwork and awesome defence. Henning was fantastic in both attack and defence and scored some great goals. Lewis was outstanding in goals again and won us the game with his saves more than once. Max showed his determination game after game and grabbed some crucial goals. Rocco was our specialist striker who kicked a thousand goals and also showed he can set them up too from the wing. Ryan showed his speed, skill and football intelligence every game. Will as always was cool calm and collected and dominated the backline and could also score a screamer as well. Zac, who never stops and is in every play every game, always gave his all. A thank you to Wendy our manager who made the year run so smoothly. A big thank you to all our parents, grandparents and family who support the boys every game you guys make this team feel so much more than just a football squad.

2021 brought new changes and challenges to the WU11 A’s team, with some new players, a new coach and manager, you would not have blamed them if they took a while to gel, but not this team. Even with these changes, the girls were able to learn to play as a team quickly and were competitive in every game. It was a shame the season ended so abruptly as their skill and game management was improving every week. It was an honour and privilege to have been able to coach this fantastic bunch of young ladies this year as they were always having fun together either at training or on game day they worked as a team and more importantly as friends.
Alana played this season like her previous ones, strong and reliable. She never shied away from a challenge and always crunched the opposition with her classic hard tackles. Emma, you knew what you were going to get every time Emma stepped on that field, and that was constant pressure on the opposition with great vision she would be in the right place every time. Erin made the defender position her own, from massive clearing kicks to crunching tackles, she would never make it easy for the opposition. Grace played up a Back Row L to R: Caleb Strahl (Assistant Coach) , Frank Hristopanos, (Coach), Jade Strahl, grade this year and she definitely showed she Isabelle Wilson, Erin Lamb, Emma Hristopanos, Willow Daly, Rachel Bliss (Manager) belonged in the team, her ball control was magnificent with great through balls to set up Front Row: Ruby Bliss, Joanna Theouli, Grace Culbert, Tahlia Comb, Mia Turner, goals to scoring goals of her own. Isabelle Alana Tripodina, Lucy Vertigan was electric this year, she used her pace to get into open spaces to score goals as well as help the defenders when needed. Jade, another speedster in our team used her pace to put pressure on the opposition defenders with most of them struggling to keep up with her, scoring some great goals throughout the season. Joanna was a standout this year, she really shined in the central position, controlling the middle of the field, and distributing the ball to our strikers upfront. Lucy joined the team in her first season playing football, and was improving every game, she was starting to learn positions and made some crucial tackles through the season. Mia would always put in 110% effort every time she took to the field no matter what position she was put in, a real team player. Ruby was tremendous, working hard on every play with great understanding and reading of the game she was always able to get herself in the right positions. Tahlia plays the game with a smile on her face the whole time, working effortlessly up and down the field getting in great positions to assist her teammates. Willow always brought a lot of energy to the team on and off the field, and she uses it amazingly by constantly putting pressure on opposition players not giving them any time on the ball.
A massive thank you to our awesome Manager Rachel Bliss who made my life as the coach so easy. You had everything sorted from awards to sign on sheets as well as the weekly team schedules. A special shoutout to Caleb Strahl who put his hand up to help coach the team and was there for nearly every game and training session taking time out of his own busy schedule to assist. Your incite and knowledge of the game helped the girls throughout the season. Last of all thank you to the parents for your support and volunteering your time throughout the year. MINI MASTERS SUMMER SOCCER STEPHEN WEBSTER SUMMER SOCCER CO-ORDINATOR After a late start in the planning and marketing of Mini Masters, we were lucky enough to get a sustainable number of teams (and parents!) who were dedicated every week, to prove that 9yr boys can play against 12 yr old girls (and vice versa), and that junior soccer should be more about having fun and developing, than just winning. Our format was the first that we know of for summer soccer (within the Shire, anyway): *boys playing against girls; *different age groups and skill levels playing against each other; *9 a side 3/4 field format in line with late stage MiniRoos; and, *teams being actively regulated by the coaches in games, to maintain a challenging enjoyable game for everyone, every week. Even if the coach had to go in goals. As a result, our observation was that every kid definitely improved their individual skills and team play, simply through game time and an optimised playing environment to encourage that. From lots of general feedback, we are told we may have the formula to the "most enjoyable" and "worthwhile" junior summer soccer in the Shire. Some key people need to be acknowledged for making Mini Masters happen. A huge thank you to: Lisa Bacon (SHFC Registrar, W12A coach), who spent weeks with the PlayFootball people, 're-writing the rules’ in setting up a separate registration system for summer soccer for SHFC, to ensure a legitimate registration process with player insurance & all of the “need to haves”. Then Lisa had to manage all of player registrations (including kids that had never played before etc!) Matt Hughes (U10A "Sylvania Socceroos”), who has assisted me in operations and management every week, also ensuring that we had highly competent referees for each and every game. Bronwen Curtis (my wife) who managed all canteen operations and ran the BBQ, cooking club-first hamburgers for Monday night dinners. Michael Barker (Club Jnr VP, & later “10C’s” coach) who also 'backed up’ operations, and handled public relations. Benny Weldon (“U9C Mighty Trees” coach) who was there every week to help with set up & pack down. In the spirit of being a not-for-profit volunteer organisation, we have ended up with enough funds left over to to give every registered Mini Masters player a soccer training shirt as a momento. As a final hoorah for this activity, we also invitied all Mini Masters registered players to Box Road for a free sausage sizzle, where we handed out the training shirts. We definitely intend to run Mini Masters again next summer, and intend to get our marketing out much earlier, and provide a better communications system for all. More teams can only amplify the development opportunities for each kid, and add to the positive social atmosphere around the field. Thank to all who were an active part of a great inaugural Mini Masters. Stephen Webster Mini Masters Summer Soccer Co-Ordinator

KEEPING UP In 2021, our club once again offered a Goalkeeping Academy for budding young Goalkeepers. From our U9’s to our U14’s, 16 enthusiastic goalkeepers attended weekly sessions to train with an experienced AYL goalkeeper, Xiao, and a resident SHFC U18’s goalkeeper, Nicholas. As the weeks progressed, each player grew in skill and knowledge of their craft, and brought with them success stories from their weekend games, attributable to the dedication of specific training aimed directly at our goalkeepers. Well done to our trainers, and to the boys and girls who have put their hand up to be that last line of defence." Helen Plakias

What a shame that this was the season to finish early. We were just getting started! This season saw the addition of 6 new faces to our team, with Taylor and Naomi playing up from the 11’s. It was clear very early that we were onto something special this, our little team, has talent from one end of the field to the other. To make things even better, we have team of lovely young ladies. Every one of them gives 100% each week, both on and off the field. The girls chose our Team Culture words for 2021 – Sportsmanship, Teamwork, Competitive, Supportive. These are the words that are moulding our players on the field. What we talk about and strive for as a team. Grace never panics. Always strong in defense with a great read of the play. Somehow manages to make everything look easy. Don’t be fooled, Elka might seem shy and quiet…. But she can play soccer! Using her body and ball skills very effectively on the field! Elka is our team juggling queen. Back Row L to R: Kristy Farr (Coach), Jessica Viner, Addison Farr, Gabriella Spink, Addison is very happy to play one Grace Considine, Taylor Shaw, Christie Considine (Manager) Front Row L to R: Maddi Harrop, Tulli Slattery, Elka position, but she plays it very well Coombes, Kalarni Judd, Chelsea Sumich, Lola Evans, Naomi Murr and has grown a lot in confidence this year. Sometimes Addy helps in goals for big games. Maddi in full flight is awesome! She can chase down any defender and take them on – even if they are twice her size. Surprised herself in goals this year with an epic save!!! Competitive and a versatile team player, Kalarni will fight to the final whistle and encourage her team to lift when needed. Amazing skills in goals too, such an all rounder. Naomi, Nemo! What a pleasure to have in our team. Always smiling and giving 100% at every training sessions and every game. Naomi fights hard up front and scored some great goals.

Taylor is mature beyond her years on the field. Taylor has a great read of play, able to disrupt many attacking efforts from the other team and managing to convert them into an attacking play for us. Whenever you might think there is no chance of a goal, don’t look away if Tulli has the ball. Tulli can create something from nothing on the field, with constructive runs and great ball control.. Bella is an integral part of our strong defense. Bella is a strong and confident player, able to fight for the ball, win it, look up and create a constructive pass. Tina never gives up. Running up and back in midfield, working hard on the field – always with a big smile. Tina is happy to play anywhere and her confidence in defence has grown this season. Chelsea is happy to play anywhere on the field and play any position well, as she has a good understanding of every role. Chelsea is always bright and bubbly, adored by her team mates. Caris is our left footed giant killer. Give Caris some space on the left and watch her go. Her attacking skills have improved this season and she created some great plays for her team mates. Jess is our super aggressive attacker. We are all glad Jess in on our team. This season Jess has improved as a team player, creating space and laying off some great passes. Bring on the 2022 season, as we didn’t get much time with Lola. Really looking forward to what we can do together next year. The improvement in a few weeks was great to see. Thank you to our amazing supportive parents, at times it has been an emotional roller coaster this season. The team’s end of season Zoom Catch-up Biggest thank you to our Manager Christie. You sure had your work cut out for you this season with State Cup. Thank you for keeping us all in line. Can’t wait to see what 2022 brings. Coach Kristy Farr
The 2021 season was definitely challenging for the U12B team. It took some time to get used to playing as a Competition side, playing on a larger field and then learning to maneuvour through the Covid restrictions. But the boys pulled together as a team and made it work. We had our ups and downs starting off strong then coming up against some really tough teams. But the boys never let it get them down and came back each week determined to give it their all. We could not fault the effort and determination that they threw into each training session and the energy they displayed on game day.

Unfortunately the season was cut short and we didn't finish where we would have liked to on the competition ladder but we know that next year we will give it everything we couldn't give it this year! Thank you to all of our boys for their commitment to the game and to each other, for their hard work in learning and staying in their positions and continuing to improve each and every week. Thank you to all of the boys - Our great defenders our fullbacks: Riley, Joe, Zach, Oscar, James and Lucas Our tireless midfielders: Isaak, Kaleb, Jacob, Noah and Ayden Our fearless forwards: Nate, Aniken, Kai Our superstar goalie: Alexander

This season started with fire in the boys' bellies after a cracking 2020 season. Unfortunately, as each week passed with scores that did nothing to reflect the effort on the pitch, the fire started slowly to fizzle. Normally, writing an end-of-year report I would write about each individual effort that made up the team's success. This year, that doesn't seem appropriate; instead, I want to talk about the team itself. This is a team of boys, many of whom have played together for a number of years now, who faced challenges that would result in many adults leaving the game for good. Instead, the U12Ds hit rock bottom and decided to keep going. Week in and week out they turned up even when feeling deflated. They ran onto that field and played and when the games ended, always had a kind word to say to each other. If one was down the others picked them up and the kindness was always returned.

Behind them stood a coach Back Row L to R: Alexis Auciello (Manager), Xavier Auciello , Anthony Hondros, Ignatius Crisp, who would have run on the Cruz Campbell, Yianni Kalemkerdis, Nektaroius Hondros (Coach) pitch at any moment if it Front Row L to R: Liam Sussmilch, Christian Alessi, Gianni Mamo, Harry Preedy Kyme, Jett Fowler, meant the boys could succeed. Coach Nekta Fintan Harris, Andrew Scoufis Absent: Blake Salis, Kasra Gorjipour, Dylan Lomas showed up to each training session with new ideas to boost the boys and every Thursday was a welcome respite where the boys could be together and have a good laugh. Standing on the sidelines and in the cold and dark at training were the parents. Never have there been a team who supports each other better. Every child has a group of parents to turn to in trouble, to boost them when down and to celebrate their successes as if they were their own. 2021 was not U12D's year, but I know we all are looking forward to another chance to play together next year. SYLVANIA HEIGHTS FOOTBALL CLUB 2021 YEARBOOK
After a disruptive but successful 2020, the 2021 season began with great anticipation. We welcomed a number of new faces (and our first ever regular keeper!) and with a healthy squad size the boys got some good preseason training at summer soccer. A fairly easy victory in our only trial was probably not what we needed! The season started off with a heavy defeat to Lilli Pilli but the boys immediately hit back with a solid display against newly promoted Bosco. Narrow losses against fierce rivals Como and Miranda impacted confidence but the boys again followed up with a good performance and win against Gymea. Inconsistency had definitely set in. A difficult game against Cronulla and a disappointing State Cup experience underlined a really difficult first half of the season and everybody searching for our ‘mojo’. Truth be told, the boys had not previously found themselves in this position and it really tested their belief. That said, I was particularly proud that the boys did not give up and they continued to work hard at training. A strong performance in our second game against Lilli Pilli was followed by three consecutive wins (including a memorable mudfest at Miranda) meaning boys had finally found their mojo and had also found themselves in the top 4 for the first time in the season. It was at this point the competition was abruptly halted and we finished with 5 wins, 1 draw and 5 losses having scored 27 goals and conceded 25. We will never know how things would have ended up and despite the season being cut short I feel that the boys demonstrated terrific attitude, teamwork and a strong desire to turn things around and get back to winning ways. Whilst this season will be remembered for all the wrong reasons I hope the boys reflect on it as a season where they realised the importance of maintaining hard work, togetherness and belief when results aren’t going your way.

Overall, I want to congratulate the boys on the way they dealt with the season and for the determination they showed throughout. Our backline of Rory, Nathan, Justen, Nicholas P, Caleb and Nicholas C played under heaps of pressure this year but stuck to the task. Our midfielders of Alex, Brandon, Elliot, Gabriel, Oliver and Harrison (who also filled in at centre back) fought hard and never gave up. Our strikers Christian, Byron and George created lots of chances and finished off some great passing movements. Although it was a short season I’m sure the boys (and the coach) will bank the learnings of 2021. Thank you to our manager Kiri Pizel for keeping us all organised and also thanks to Alexander Cardamis for assisting me with coaching the boys. I would also like to acknowledge the fantastic support from all the families who were always on hand to cheer us on. I look forward to seeing the boys back in 2022! Chris Plakias Coach

Everyone involved can be very proud of this team for sticking together, supporting each other and absolutely dominating the competition. The girls started with a convincing 5-1 victory, following this with 5 games in a row where they held the opposition scoreless- not bad for a team without a dedicated goalie. This great defense continued through the season, helped by some spectacular saves and huge goal kicks by Mya, Bronte and Evie and our strong defensive lineup of Lacey, Nikita, Santina and Imogen. By this stage, the girls were becoming comfortable with their set positions and really found their groove. The midfield was controlled by Mya, Evie, Tia and on occasion Tara, who learnt how to hold their position and dominate the opposition. Unfortunately Gabi found herself with an injury that left her on the sideline and out of her usual striker position. Luckily our team has great depth and Remy, Kenedee, Bronte and Sienna stepped up and converted many of the well place crosses and spectacular corners fed in by Zara and Steph. In all we scoreed a total of 36 goals in the 11 games, with Zara prominent in this department but goals scored by almost all of our mids and forwards. It was a great undefeated season, where we were staring down a minor premiership and a grand final appearance. Unfortunately for the second year in a row there was no GF but we still took home the goodies. Hopefully everyone comes back next year and we can finally get this done in 2022!”

This year we welcomed three new players to the team: Samuel, Marley and Ahmad.
U13D
They adjusted easily to the team and were a pleasure to train. We started our season in E grade and with comfortable wins against Gymea 7-0 and Heathcote by 6-0. Next, we had a 2-all draw against Grays Point, before a top of the table clash against Bosco. The boys played their best game of the season and dominated the game which resulted in 6-0 win. This led to the team being re-graded to D grade. In D grade we won 3 games, lost 3 games and had a draw before the season ended due to Covid restrictions. Marcus & Connor alternated in goals throughout the season and did a great job. It was noticeable that Marcus’s extra goalie training had improved his skills. They both assisted in defence to keep the opponents scoreless in three games. Our defence was held together by Adam. He was well supported by Kynan, Theo and Marley. Billy, Ahmad, Samuel, Blake, Lucas, Zack and Noah worked really hard in midfield to provide support to our defence and feed balls to our strikers.

Isaac and Kalan in attack scored numerous goals. Kalan’s speed made him the top scorer in the team. I would like to thank the team manager Kim. Her help and organisation each week was vital to the team being able to run smoothly. A special mention also to Brenton for his help. I also would like to thank Andrew and Scott for assisting with the coaching this season. To the U13D players and to all their parents; thank you for a great, albeit short season! I am looking forward to 2022. Go the Trees!

The 2021 season was a difficult one, stepping up into the under 18’s and playing some teams in their second season in the competition. The games were fast and tough with 45minute halves and big opponents. In saying this our under U18C’s team did not back down one inch and really stepped up and played harder than ever matching it with many of the other teams.

CLUB LEGEND CAROL ASKEW The Club was bursting with pride when in March this year, our very own Carol Askew featured in articles for ABC On-line and the following article for Football NSW , celebrating her contribution to the game
73 YEARS OF AGE AND NOT OUT FOR FEMALE FOOTBALL STAR CAROL ASKEW Posted 24 March , 2021 By Mark Stavroulakis
Sylvania Heights Football Club may be renowned for being the ‘Home of the mighty Trees’ but they’re also the home to Australia’s oldest registered female football star in 73-year-old Carol Askew who is set to strap on the boots once more in Sutherland Shire Football Association’s Over 39’s Women’s competition. Affectionately known by her fellow peers as the ‘Legend’ of Sylvania Heights FC, Carol Askew absolutely adores her football. It’s her outlet as she still amazingly works in a high-pressure industry at the Work Department of Community and Justice, a position she’s held for almost twenty-years. “Football is definitely an outlet for me and for many others who play the game,” Askew stated to Football NSW. “If you have any issues, you can take it out on the ball but certainly not on the players.” “Football gets you out there and away from the everyday pressures and stresses of the world.” “When your training, you forget everything else, you are with a different group of people you don’t often see every day who have a different outlook on things and that automatically gets you into another zone.” “Football definitely gives me the power to switch off, I am still employed in a high pressure position even though I have the Superannuation people asking me if I am still working, I enjoy it all.” Commencing her football career in 1986, the life member of her beloved club spent her opening seasons with ‘The Mighty Trees’ before moving off to Broken Hill in 1994 for work. After spending eight years away from the beautiful game she returned home, and it was a flyer in her letterbox that persuaded Carol to return to Sylvania Heights FC once more. “I remember vividly going to my letterbox in 2002 where I found a Sylvania Heights FC flyer”. ”Seeing that gave me that feeling to put on the boots once more. I rang the club and said “Am I too old to play football?” Thankfully, they accepted me with open arms, and I have been there ever since.” Playing against opposition almost more than half her age, Askew’s love affair for the game continues to grow deep making her an absolute star at the Box Road facility where you can find her kicking goals on a weekly basis. “Throughout my time I have forged many friendships, seen fellow teammates get engaged, married, divorced, ladies give birth to their kids, the club is like family to me and the girls in my team have been amazing.” “You honestly find yourself in one big happy family, I have played both winter grassroots football and also Summer Football which is phenomenal and I am loving every second of it.” “Whether I am playing as a keeper (which I am lousy at), sweeper, midfielder or up-front which I like, there’s no other better feeling than playing football and you don’t have to have skills like Pele to play.” “Playing the game has also assisted with my health. I recently did a bone density test and was told by my doctor how good my results were for my age, I put it down to playing football.” Askew was also part of the club’s first ever Women’s competitive team such has been her devotion and dedication to the club and the female game. One person that has seen Carol blossom to the footballer and true leader and female football ambassador she is today has been her coach Colin Hallam. “I started coaching this team a few years ago and even then, I was amazed by the fact that Carol was still running around the field when most would have hung up the boots years ago to enjoy Sundays walking down the beach rather than sweating it out on a football field.” “Even more impressive was her fitness level. Carol spends as much time on the field as any other player. “Last year she suffered a fairly serious leg injury. Most of us thought well you can’t come back at that age, “but not Carol”. Off to physio regularly and sure enough she is back this year. It shows just how much passion Carol has for football.” “Carol loves training, turns up early for games and still has that competitive nature that I think is vital for all sports.” “Whenever someone says, “you’re too old to do that”, I suggest they look at Carol and realise that anything is possible with the right attitude. “Congratulations Carol. You are an inspiration to so many and we look forward to another year of fun on the field.” “The club’s passionate Vice-President Stephen Stavropoulos echoed Hallam’s sentiments on the legendary status Carol Askew has achieved with not just the club but the entire Shire football community. “Carol is dead set, true inspiration to all in our game. “It’s not every day you come across a person which epitomizes the true passion of loving football like Carol does.” “The fact that she is still playing the game at her age and loving every second of it not to mention playing a considerable amount of game time is a true testament to her dedication for the sport.” “She’s our first ever female footballer to have achieved 25 years of service as well as a Life Member and a legend of our club and we at Sylvania Heights FC are incredibly proud of her achievements.” The 73-year-old has also enjoyed seeing the female game develop in leaps and bounds and cannot wait to see what else the future holds for the women’s game. “From when I started to seeing it now it’s changed 1000% for the better.” “It’s fantastic to see so many talented Australians representing us across the globe, look at what Sam Kerr has done over in England with Chelsea, seeing her do her summersaults and scoring goals, what a feeling! “ “What I’ve seen now more so than ever in our game is that our young girls are much more advanced as more opportunity has been given by the powers that be in growing our sport for the better.” Carol Askew we at Football NSW salute you, bravo and may we see you kick many more fruitful goals in your upcoming season and beyond. The world definitely needs more Carol Askew’s.

TEAM REPORTS Seniors The team welcomed some new and returning Trees to squad for 2021 and were ready to mount another successful campaign in a challenging split comp. The draw left us with a tough start facing the top 3 teams in the association in succession but this only served to galvanise the team together, which has always been our greatest strength. The boys played some thrilling games and showed what true grit, determination and brotherhood can accomplish under adversity. Unfortunately the comp shut down just as we were finding our feet with a favourable 2nd round draw and the wind in our backs. The team should all hold their heads high as they represented the club and themselves with distinction. Here’s to Tree season 2022

AL2 make the sign of the Tree
AL8
Always exciting to get a new team together for the start of a new season and after a year off it was nice to get back in the Coaching groove too. With a very young AL team (the majority of which were playing U21s last season or still eligible to play U21s) it was a tough decision as to what grade to bid for prior to the season commencing. As it turned out I think we got it just right with the AL8 grading – you are a long time in the All Age comp and best to go low to start off with and build towards future promotions than go in too high initially and struggle week in week out. We started with a comprehensive 7-0 win against Barden Ridgebacks but at the time I felt we had probably played the poorest team in the comp (and so it proved as they were re-graded after 4 rounds). From then one we played consistently pretty well, but it was clear that some of the teams had a greater degree of All Age experience combined with a superior physicality and this is something that we will gain in coming years. Having said that as the season came to a untimely finish after 9 rounds, we found ourselves sitting third and I believe that a finals finish was well within us to achieve. So as I said to the lads we have unfinished business for next season and I hope to see them all back so that, in the words of Steven Gerrard, "we go again"! Russ Strudwick Coach

What a rollercoaster of a season with many highs, and many lows.

Obviously glad to be able to play amidst a looming pandemic. Our team had one of the best defensive records in the comp, conceding only nine goals with our strike force capitalising on their opportunities. Unfortunately, fifty percent of our games resulted in a draw, which meant we didn’t accrue enough points for first position. The team has welcomed Julian, Matt S, Adam M, and Josh D to our forward line up along with Martin. Josh L, Daniel, Luke and Kieren joined the centre of our field along with Jarrod, Tom and Aaron. James “Sticks” and Adam H joined our back line with Shaun, Pat and Adrian. Again, we had Adam S in goals and as our Captain.
Back Row L to R: Josh Dowling, Shaun Hardie, Kieren Wulf, Jarrod Savino, Martin Pearson, Patrick McLachlan, James Gutheridge, Tom Conlan, Adam Hardie, Aaron Elton Front Row L to R: Adam Mooney, Adrian, Wulf, Adam Serena, Matthew Serena, Julian Wilkins Absent: Joshua Lincoln, Daniel Moore, Luke Morris
A very tight competition, with only two points between first and third place. Runners up this year by one point due to the sudden end to the comp due to Covid 19. Looking forward to returning to the Season in 2022 with a dedicated and enthusiastic group of guys and their families.
Finally, thank you for our very faithful and committed supporters who come along each week and cheer along.

MINOR PREMIERS AND SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONS
Our 2021 squad was formed out of new players to the club, old boys who haven't laced up for the trees in ages and also blokes who haven't missed a year in a trees kit. Expectations were high for a successful campaign even with a light on numbers squad. We all quickly came together and formed a close bond. We had a winning team culture that created results on the field with us sitting undefeated at seasons end. Most goals scored and least conceded. Although it was short it was a great year with a great bunch of guys who I was proud to run out with each week.

Well it was great to welcome 4 new players into the team this year and they all played an important role when on the field. Candice, Leah, Jess & Rachael. We hope you enjoyed the short time we had on the field and we look forward to you returning for another go in 2022. This was a very close competition with just 3 points separating 2nd through to 7th. We had our chances a few times to climb up the ladder and be in the top 2, however a few lapses in concentration (both in attack and defence) cost us dearly in games that we could and probably should have won. Having said that, it really was a trial and error year as we sorted out just where our new players were best suited and how to plug the holes that a couple of regulars left as they took the year off due to injury. We were certainly getting better as the year rolled on and it was a really shame we didn’t get the second half of the year completed.
The season was too short to give out the Coaches award this year so I will just mention a couple of players. Leah as a new player to the team was outstanding and an incredible asset up the front. Great skills and runs all day. Cam gets better each year. Never gives up and has turned into a very handy forward and/or mid field player. Sue just keeps ripping those crosses in from the right hand side. This year was her best yet since I’ve coached her. Susan could only play a few games but really makes a difference to our play when on the field with her desire to win and compete Thanks to Pam for assisting with the set ups at home, Kathy for bringing oranges when not working and Jim for assisting during game time. I’d be lost if I had to do all these things on my own. Colin Hallam Coach
THE LOLA STEVENS MOTHER’S DAY SHIELD After the loss of Lola Stevens , daughter of W39B player Penelope Stevens, the team decided to celebrate Lola’s memory with a perpetual shield in her honour. Each year , in the game played on Mother’s day , the shield will be awarded to the player of the match from that round. The inaugural winner of the Lola Stevens Mother’s day Shield was Sue Scott.

After a 2020 sadly affected by COVID the old boys of the club turned up to go around again. Training and warm ups were more about ointments, strapping and medicines than running and kicking.

As the season rolled around, a scare was put into us, promotion to O45Cs. WHOA UP, how’d that happen. Dutifully we turned up and played a few games in the higher grade and managed to do enough (or is that not do anything) to elicit a re-grade back to O45Ds for the remainder of the year. Once back into our proper grade the team started to play some good football. A few close matches, several draws, and a couple of wins. We were on a roll. Then came a washout round, then COVID re-emerged. Would it be a few weeks and go again? Alas it was not to be and the season was cannedand again the boots were put away in preparation for the next season. A huge thanks to all the lads who turned up each week to train and play, some for 90 minutes, some for 5. To those with injuries who ran the bench, offered snippets of advice or brought the esky, great job fellas. To our wonderful families who turn up to watch, we promise to play better next year! The season tally was 2 wins, 4 draws, 3 losses. 10 points and sneaking into 4th position. Golden boot was Sam with 3 goals. As the first playing President of the Club in a long time, It’s been an absolute pleasure to coach and play with this team. Bring on summer soccer, training and season 22. James Shearer Player Coach
