PRESIDENT’S REPORT

JAMES SHEARER PRESIDENT

It’s been a year like no other !! Part of me was thinking that those opening remarks said it all, but maybe a little more narrative is warranted.

After taking the reigns of the club at the last AGM, I had only a small idea of what I was letting myself in for. With friends giving me with wise words “Easy job mate. It’s all good, what could possibly go wrong”. The AGM also saw the departure of former President Russ Strudwick, Long time Junior VP Jay Nataly and one of our playing life members Brad Harrop leaving the Committee. Thank you Gents for your time and efforts over the years. Season 2020 starts on 1 January when registration opens and the we start the process of building teams, but new years 2020 saw Sydney and most of NSW fully in the grip of one of the worst fire seasons on record. The smell of smoke and the haze in our suburbs brought home the visions we were witnessing on TV. The devastation of our bush, the loss of homes and unfortunately lives were lost. We pride ourselves on been a community club, and the old attitude of getting stuck in and helping came to the fore. This time it wasn’t committee involvement. It was one of our senior teams, the AL3s who organised, set up and ran a bushfire appeal. On behalf of our community, and our club we collected, sorted, boxed and shipped a full truck load of urgently needed goods to the south coast. It was an effort that we should be supremely proud of.

“Once again there were new terms to learn: social distancing, Covid plans, 1 parent policy, come-playleave. Again the wonderful community that is SHFC and the wider SSFA shone through”

As January fell to February and the haze continued, grading began and we lost the first day to heat and the next to rain. We had to finalise grading at Kareela, just as the rains were coming.

Beauty I thought. We’ve got through the fires, grading is almost done. Then came the floods. Mother Nature can be tough at times. At this time we were also hearing the first rumblings of a new flu. Who knew what was in store then. Grading was done, teams were in, teams were training, trials were organised and then…… COVID hit. Within a week everything had stopped. Numerous meetings and phone hook ups were had and the season was quickly postponed. Lockdowns followed and we all became familiar with new terms, FaceTime, zoom, home schooling, isolation, stay home messages, no handshakes, working from home, job keeper. It was a new world. Just when we at association level were thinking the season will be called off, the darkness suddenly lifted.

Our isolation had worked and we were soon back to training with more restrictions, then a month later, the season recommenced; 13 rounds instead of 18, no finals, no state cup. It was different but the smiles on faces as community sport returned were worth the effort. Once again there were new terms to learn: social distancing, Covid plans, 1 parent policy, come-playleave. Again the wonderful community that is SHFC and the wider SSFA shone through. There were a few hiccups, but we adhered to the rules once and our emphasis was on STAYING PLAYING. At this point I want to thank the kids, the parents, and the extended family that did the right thing and kept us on the field. It was sad to see the small numbers on the Saturdays as the grandparents and families stayed away. We missed the normal hustle and bustle. We look forward to seeing you back next year. As mentioned season 2020 was different. With no finals it was a simple first past the post for our completion teams. SHFC had 2 teams finish first the W12As and the AL3s. It was a classic old and new. The W12As in their first year on the big field playing competition, and it all came down to the last game 1v2. The girls prevailed, winning their competition, becoming junior and overall club champions at the same time. WELL DONE GIRLS. The AL3, were backing up in a higher division after winning the AL4, AL6, AL7.in the previous years. They went through the year undefeated, were never off the top of the table and won the AL3s. That’s BACK to BACK to BACK to BACK. Bring on the 2s gents. Well done. The intermediate club champions went to our U21Cs, a team that a week from grading didn’t exist, but a bunch of mates and mates of mates, suddenly materialised and a team was born, playing hard with limited numbers and finishing 2nd. Well done gents, see you again next year. With numerous other teams right in the mix, it was a successful season. Our Mini Roos teams competed strongly across all age groups, with several teams finishing undefeated. Our competition teams continued to be strong, however the U16s especially were suffering the after effects of 2019 success with most teams pushing up grades and been challenged. Our 3 U12 boys teams epitomised the family nature of our club. There were 3 teams with just 35 players between them. They all struggled for numbers, loaned & borrowed frequently and all ended near the top of their respective divisions. Well done!

At the end of the season our new junior summer soccer program was launched with an emphasis on playing proper football. 9 a side on larger fields than most other

TREES JOIN THE FIREFIGHT In early January , as unprecedented bushfires ravaged the country, our All Age 3 team led the charge to help. Members of the team rallied our committee members and volunteers and set up a drop off and donation point at the Club. Volunteers collected cash donations and also essential household items. They were sorted and boxed at the club to be sent to the south coast of NSW to help those directly effected by the bush fires. The club was able to donate a bunch of brand new soccer balls as well as $200 worth of

2020 COMMITTEE summer soccer competitions and running into the New Year, we hope to see many more teams join in for next year. Our seniors (over 40s) summer soccer has also recommenced with nearly 100 players continuing to defy the age of their knees and come and play a social comp. As I write this the season of 2021 rapidly approaches. Trials for the respective representative teams are upon us, and I wish all our players trialing the very best. Whilst we will miss those who leave us we will celebrate your success. To our sponsors, who in this tough year have stayed with us and continued their support, a huge thanks. Without the extra money coming from these wonderful companies, this club like many would struggle. To our major sponsor Donna, Sue and her team at McGraths Estate Agents. Thank you. Looking head season 2021 will likely be challenging again for good reasons. With the team at SHCYC led by our own Chris Plakias successfully winning a large grant for redevelopment of Box Rd 1-2 in next year. This is a huge multi-million dollar grant and the team at the youth club deserve our thanks. We will soon have state of the art pitches, and hopefully the term ‘Box Rd bobble’ will be a thing of the past. There will likely be moves down to Box Rd 3-4 next season to accommodate the work. Stay tuned. To my wonderful hard working committee, a huge thanks for the work of the year. Each in their own way, kept the place ticking along and contributed to the success the season became. Well done to Michael Barker, the VP for juniors for receiving the presidents award, and to Matt Hughes, the Mini Roo Co-ordinator for receiving the club person of the year award. Thank you gents. To all the mums and dads that help out each week doing duties on BBQ, canteen, grounds and working bees. Thank you. The club doesn’t function without you and we would love to see new faces join our committee and help out. It all about getting kids (of all ages) onto the field playing the world game Bring on Season 2021. James Shearer President

Rebel sport vouchers. This combined with community donations to make $700 worth of gift vouchers and over 70 boxes of essentials , sent to the south coast. Money collected was donated to three nominated charities. Shoalhaven Mayoral relief fund, WIRES Wildlife Emergency fund and the RFS. As AL3 player Kane Michaels put it “ today made me so proud to be part of such a great community and also soccer club”. Thank you to all who gave their time and to all who donated.

FOUR IN A ROW Retracing the All Age 3 team’s journey as Premiers to that glorious day in September when they made it Back to Back to Back to Back Premierships “After just missing out on the 2016 semi finals we were much better prepared for the 2017 season to begin WITH. We picked up the minor premiership in the final game against Kirrawee and we were set to play them in the first week of the semi's. Grand final day approached and after some inspirational words from our Captain Brendan Hazell the game began. Kane scored early off his left to take us into the break at 1-0 up, the second half was an arm wrestle with both teams giving it their everything. Both keepers were on fire but Justin Hill managed to head 1 in with only a few minutes remaining and some desperate efforts from our defensive line saw us win the Grand Final ! “

“We got the season off to a good start and at round 10 we had 7 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses and were looking good in the top 3 on the table. Finally we had our full squad back and were closing in on the Minor Premiership. Back to back wins saw us secure the Minor Premiership and achieve a home semi-final at Tree Stadium. We once again played Gymea in the GF and once again was a heated game early, we unfortunately lost our gun defender PJ quite early in the game to concussion but Alex and Pete stepped up and covered the left back position. James Burdon scored and at halftime was 1-0. With some good defence by Jim Robins and outstanding goal keeping from Quin we managed to keep them scoreless. We were awarded a penalty with only a few minutes remaining which Anton slotted and we were crowned Premiers !! “

“After 2 successful campaigns with back to back premierships, hopes were high again this year even knowing we were going up 2 grades. With the team in good form we finished the regular season in a very respectable second place and took on 1st placed Kirrawee 2 in a fiery encounter for a spot in the GF. The GF game started hard and fast and after a few early chances, Robbie put in a free kick outside the box. The opposition managed to come back to make it 3-3 late in the second half but the boys never gave up and after a great team build up and an outstanding pass from Dario, Burdo put the match winner away and our back to back to back premiership was sealed.”

MINI ROOS REFEREES The 2019 season may have been a short one but it did not stop the development of Mini Roos refereeing at SHFC. Once again the club had a great take up from our players to come and lead the Mini Roos games on a Saturday MINI ROOS REFEREE CO-ORDINATOR morning and what a fantastic job our young referees did. The season started with our usual training night at pre-season and before we knew it we were off on round one. In 2020 our team took charge of 12 rounds and 212 games across the U6 to U11 age groups. I can honestly say that I continue to be so impressed with application of our young referees. I have received many compliments across the season on the standard of refereeing at SHFC. It is a real credit to all the young referees and the parents that support them. This year we had 23 refs of which 10 were new recruits. As I look back at the season I can reflect and see how much each Referee has developed in confidence, ability on the pitch and their ability to communicate and make decisions. The program really does wonders for young people in so many ways. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the committee members that have helped mentor and guide the refs through the season. It is a real team effort. Also, a huge thank you to all the parents that help ensure we have refs at the games every week on time and prepared ready for action. Please remember that without referees there are no games. Congratulations to all our refs for a fantastic season and a special shout out to the following: MATT HUGHES

Jaiden Ritchard – MiniRoo Ref of the Year. An outstanding season for SHFC. Super consistent and a high performer.

Jamie Hughes – Cadet Ref of the Year. Our youngest and smallest ref. But has a loud whistle and voice to go with it. Great development across the season. Samantha Homola – Cadet Ref of the Year. Huge development across the season finishing at a really high standard Once again thank you to all involved and I look forward to seeing you all once again at Box Rd. U6B

What a time we had this year in the U6B’s, we had lots of fun, and as a team the boys showed great commitment to training, and had fun each week during games, win, loss or draw. Although we lost a few games, the boys never dropped their heads, and always fought to the end. They improved with each game and showed great flair in attack, and determination in defence.

Picture by Helen Plakias Our super striker Alexander was our top scorer and loved scoring goals, including some length of the field efforts, flying around the field, and never giving up on any play, he was our Energiser bunny. Frankie in his second year of football, used his dribbling ball Back Row L to R: Stacey McKiernan (Manager), George Tokitsis (Coach) skills to mesmerise the opposition, and scored a great goal Front Row L to R: Theodore Lymberis, Alexander Tahan, Matias Casalliglla, Frank Lymber- during the season. Theodore was most improved, gaining in confidence with every game, and was tough, and a rock at the is, Angelo Tokitsis, Bailey McKiernan, Inset: Oscar Standal back of defence. Oscar showed his speed and strength, and scored some great goals throughout the year, and was a constant threat to the opposition. Bailey also in his second year, was strong in defence, chased the ball everywhere, and was oh so close in getting his maiden goal, one he really deserved. Matias showed great determination in everything he did, he showed great ball skills, was always willing to do whatever the team needed, and scored some great goals as well. Angelo proved to be a rock in defence, taking much pride in not allowing the opposition to score, and keeping the boys and parents entertained with his fun attitude. All the boys improved greatly throughout the season, and were hitting their peak by the end of the year. Well done boys it was a pleasure coaching you all, and hoping for bigger things in the Under 7’s. A big thank you to our manager Stacey, coach George, and also thank you to all the parents who made a boisterous cheer squad each game, I’m sure everyone had a great time as we shared wonderful memories in our first year as a team. The boys have had a great season winning all but a handful of games. This is an incredible achievement given it’s their first season playing together as a team, and for many of them, the first time they have played club soccer. The team bonded so well almost immediately. They enjoyed playing together, on and off the field, and it made for an enjoyable and fun season for all.

Picture by Natalie Porter Back Row L to R: Michelle Zanetti (Manager), Andrew Hoareau (Coach) Daniel is a great little player, one of the fastest out there. He never Front Row L to R: Leo Zanetti, Cruz O’Byrne, Joshua Butress-Grove, stops when he is on the field, both scoring and defending, and is always Luca Hoareau, Danielle Vitiello, Levi Benjamin chasing the ball with such pace, passion and drive. Cruz reads the game perfectly and always finds a way to be in the right place at the right time, putting away some good goals and also never too shy to get in a defend for his team. Levi has come a long way since his first game and is always enthusiastic and excited to play. His development is a joy to watch as is the pride on his face when he scores. Josh is our big kicker (the biggest of the team) and super defender, saving us from many opposition goals throughout the season and also scoring many of his own. Luca has a good eye for a long shot at goal, and is one of our highest scorers of the season. If he’s not scoring his own goals he is setting up his team mates for a shot at goal - a real team player. Leo has been our quiet achiever, excited to play and always with a smile on his face. With every game, he gains more confidence and skill, finally scoring on the very last game of the year - a really proud moment. They have been a pleasure to coach and I look forward to next season. Well as for most of us it was not the best start to the Football Season. Our team met one rainy afternoon at McDonalds Sylvania for a meet & greet and a get “to know you” before our first Training session. The majority of our team consisted of boys and a Coach who had not played Club Football or coached before, so needless to say it was the blind leading the blind. In the weeks that followed we could start to see the individual strengths that each of the boys had and we were able to start working/ playing as a team and more importantly having fun. Over the coming months each of their strengths, weaknesses and confidence improved with each game. Our amazing Coach Phil and the time and effort he put into the team was paying off, as we started to win a few of our games (Hooray!!) The excitement and smiles on the boys faces was something that each of us as parents were very proud of. The growth, the confidence and friendships that our team experienced and made over the season, is what makes this all worthwhile and as the Team’s Manager I could not be more proud of our boys and their willingBack Row : Lisa Boyle (Manager) ness to make the U6-E Team the best team!!!! TEAM REPORTS Mini Roos U6H

The U6H boys had a fantastic season overall. Like everyone, we didn’t know if we would even get started due to all the COVID restrictions but once they got on the field the boys showed what we could do. We managed to win 8 games which was a fantastic achievement for a new team of boys learning the game and how to play with each other. Their attitude and willingness to listen was great and most importantly they had a lot of fun. To all the boys: Bentley, Oliver ,Blake, Damien, Caleb, Louis and Liam :thanks for all your efforts this year, and good luck in 2021. I’m sure you will continue to improve and keep enjoying the game. It has been so wonderful watching the girls learn to play soccer as well as form beautiful friendships together. Most of the girls started the season off not knowing the rules, but all the girls have done so well listening to our wonderful coaches, Kelly and Chelsea at training and the game. It’s amazing how much their confidence and skills have improved over the season. I think it’s safe to say, all of the girls had such a fun season together! We always had a little giggle on the side line when they would have their ‘Mother’s chats’ on the field and be completely oblivious to the game. Add in a few handstands and cartwheels and they were having a ball! But when it came down to actually playing soccer, they were all little superstars! I love how excited and proud they all were when they or one of the team scored a goal. And of course there were lots of cheers from the side lines too! We have loved watching the girls play each week, grow their confidence and work together as a team! A huge thank you to the Sylvania Heights Football Club for all your hard work over the season. It doesn’t go unnoticed and we truly appreciate it! Looking forward to next season! Ashley Blake Manager

U7A have had a great season developing their skills and working together as a team this year.

The U7A team consisted of Buddy Hutaean, Angus Whalen, Austin Groos, Eddie Noon, Ethan Rooney, and Alex White. The boys got to know each other quickly and have fun at their games and training each week. At the start of the 2020 season the boys had varied skills and strengths. Throughout the season each player was able to further develop their individual skills, while also coming together to play each game as a team. The boys always played their hardest whether it was a win or a loss. Well done to each of the boys for a great season! Tobias Groos Coach

What a great Year the U7C’s have had! They battled the constraints of COVID and ended up with a fantastic 11 - 1 win / loss record.

The U7C’s consisted of the following players - Frankie, Jordan, Joshua, Kobi, Isaac, Oliver F and Oliver R. All the boys worked well together, playing fairly and consistently. The main objective for the team was to have fun, while at the same time building skill and friendships. The boys tried their best each week, while playing to their full potential. It has been such a joy to watch these young boys grow and improve. Thank you to Michael for managing the team and thank you to ALL the team parents. It was only through their commitment and support that we were able to have such a great season. Good luck for the 2021 season. It was my pleasure to be your coach. Robert Liberatore Coach

2020 saw a late start to the season and a few of our team decided to give this season a miss which left us with just five players. This gave our team more game time and they learned to keep playing even though they were tired. The team had a great season and we won most of the matches even though we played many matches without any subs. The boys showed that they could play smart as well as skillfully with many of our goals coming from their great vision and quickly preparing for set plays.

James could score from anywhere on the field. His big kick sent the ball into opposition territory when we were in trouble. Niam is an outstanding defender. He saved at least one goal per game by reading the opposition's attack and getting back into a great position to defend the goal when needed. Lexi was explosive from the opposition's goal kicks and was always energetic in defense. He scored many outstanding goals during the season. Aiden has terrific vision and always gets into a great position to score a goal. He was one of our best goal scorers for the season. Noor never gives up. He is a tough player who gives as good as he gets. He is always in the thick of the action and scored many outstanding goals for the season. Thanks to Angus and Jax for helping us out when we were short a player. Every week was an exciting match and the boys played through injury and some tough opponents and I was really proud of them in every match. Under U7F’s have had a season full of laughter and friendship. They have had some big wins as well as some big losses but no matter the outcome of the game they are always encouraging to one another. Calvin has had an amazing first season of soccer. His skills and abilities have grown exponential. He passes confidently and supports the play of the team. Corbin has controlled the midfield as well as showing the ability to get back and defend when needed. He has grown in confidence during the season and has been an encourager to the players in his team.

Ethan has been our consistent all-rounder. He shows aptitude right across the park scoring some great goals as well as saving them. Jeremy our round the mess goal scorer. He may have been the smallest on the pitch most weeks, but his skills out shone the majority of the players he came up against. Mitchell was sidelined for half off the season with a third degree burn but it didn’t stop him from attending the matches to cheer on his mates. On the field his skills improved with direction and strength in his passes.

Robert has been our superstar defender. He has learnt the skill of clearing the ball from the goal mouth and on many occasions saved the day by stopping the goal being scored. Sean our quiet achiever. His skills on the ball have improved greatly from the beginning of the season. He will have a go at attacking the ball and always has a smile on his face. Thanks to the parents for the support throughout the season and to the effervescent boys who I have thoroughly enjoyed coaching. It has been a blast! Olwen Crane Coach

The U7Gs had a fun year in 2020.

With only a couple of the boys knowing each other before the first training they trained really well and had an instant bond. The first few games were tough with a few losses but in his first year Brock showed off his attacking skills with 2 goals in the first 2 games. A trip to Menai saw Tyrin come out of his shell and score a hatrick in a narrow loss to the hawks. The middle of the season came with a lot of improvement from the boys. Andre, also in his first year showed his determination in attack and defence always chasing the ball and never giving up. Bentley and Harrison also showed improvement and commitment to the team by defending well and both scoring almost length of the field goals. We finished the season strong with a big win at Menai and a close loss to bundeena at home. Nolan put his skills on display by scoring 4 goals and making countless saves on our own goal. It was a great year by the boys and a privilege being part of the team. Thanks to our manager Michael for his efforts and all the parents for they’re help throughout the season. Go the trees!!! It was a great season for the W7Bs with every player improving their game and skill on the field, enhancing their knowledge of the rules as they improved as a team each week. It was a privilege to coach the girls this year, as they had a lot of fun at our training, with everyone coming to training with a smile and putting in 100 percent effort every week. It was a joy to see the girls go out on the field and have fun and win a lot of games during this 2020 period and most importantly seeing their celebrations after scoring goals was the best part. Clio in her first season playing soccer this year, was a standout goal scorer who always came to train and play games, with a huge smile on her face. During the year Clio extended her game by scoring more and more goals each week by getting involved and tracking the ball off the other team in key moments of the game. She was always there to pass the ball to her teammates, and it was her joy, energy and speed she gifted our team this year. I am looking forward to seeing her come back next year. Ellie had an awesome season this year improving on last year, by getting more involved in the play and her passing to her teammates was exceptional. Whenever the other team made a break on the counterattack, Ellie was always there to stop it and kick the ball out for a kick in. Ellie always gives 100 percent at training and on the field, she is a funny, nice and caring teammate who always follows instructions at training, it was a privilege to coach Ellie this year. Our goal machine Ava, every week gave her all for the team, enhancing on last year and getting better every single week. If Ava wasn’t scoring the goals, she was either assisting her teammates, or making amazing goal line clearances in defence just like she did at Miranda Magpies. She is a polite, funny and gifted soccer superstar who always tries her best she was a pleasure to coach and it would be awesome if she came back next year. Bella had a fantastic season adding to her game Back Row L to R: Shantelle Tagg (Manager) , Rod Sultana (Coach), Mitchell Sultana each week becoming a key passer in our team. Bella’s vision on the (Coach) Front Row L to R: Bella Lubas, Kayra Huseyin, Ava Culbert, field was stellar, she can read the game very well, knowing where to Elizabeth Smithis, Katie Sultana, Clio Tagg make long passes and runs down the sideline. She always caught the other team on the break using her speed and quickness to get a lot of goals this year. Bella is an awesome dribbler and great at keeping the ball at her feet, teams we versed found it hard to get the ball off Bella which is a great skill she has on the field. She is funny, caring team player who always had tried her best for the team, it was a joy to coach Bella again this year. Our halfway long-distance shooter Katie improved on the field a lot this year, increasing her goal tally as a soccer player further from last year. Katie’s team play was fantastic always spotting an open player and trying her best to pass it to them. She loves to have fun and have a good time with her friends, and her smile every single week was awesome to see. She doesn’t mind a good halfway strike at goal as well. Katie is polite, caring and team spirted player, who always looks at getting better at training, she always listens and engages in sessions, she was a great asset for our team this year. Last not but not least our second newcomer Kayra who’s first season as a Sylvania Trees player was exceptional. Every week you could see Kayra getting better and better, picking up a lot of goals towards the end of season and becoming a soccer star. She scored a well-deserved double at Engadine in what was her best match this year. Kayra is a nice, funny person who was always eager to get back onto the field after having a quick break which was amazing to see. Her speed on the field was electrifying, beating defenders and being able to win the ball back easily. It was an awesome first year for Kayra and I’m looking forward to seeing her improve more next year. Thanks to our manger Shantelle Tagg for organising our team each week and the best last training session. Also the efforts of my coaching partner Rod Sultana. Thank you to all the parents for supporting us, getting to training each week and the duties on every Saturday morning. It was an awesome year; all the girls had an amazing time and it was a pleasure to coach everyone this year. I hope to see everyone back next year for another great and successful year. Great Job Girls!!

It’s been a rewarding year & I couldn’t be more proud to have been able to coach such a great team of young ladies in the W7D’s! This being their first year strapping the boots on to play our wonderful game of soccer for the Mighty Trees! From our first hit out against a seasoned team in Lilli Pilli & being touched up to say the least to our last hard fought 1-0 win over Georges River, the girls haven’t stopped having a dig, improving every time they take the field. We’ve seen Cara’s beautiful footwork weaving through the opposition to slot us a winner. Eden’s barnstorming runs up the centre to find the back of the net & cost Mum another fiver. Estelle’s tireless efforts in attack & defence scoring some scorchers from halfway. Madi’s timely injections hitting crackers that move the goal back a metre. Mia, our little soldier with her rock solid defence & cannon-like boot notched up a few. Simone with her level head, silky skills & ability to be right where we need her, has scored & saved many goals. Yes girls, those magic half-time oranges really do work.

TEAM REPORTS Mini Roos Congratulations to the Girls U7E’s on a fabulous season of soccer. We all begun the season not having played together before, but by season end the girls had formed incredible bonds and loved training and playing together immensely. Not only did the girls form bonds on the field but they also formed strong friendships with each other off the field and the joy they showed at training and games was a reflection on how much they enjoyed each other’s company. I cannot put in words how proud I was of each one of the girl’s performances and dedication to the team throughout the season. We only ever had one substitute throughout the season which meant we relied on each other to have enough players every week. Yet every week each girl showed up for the team and played to their fullest ability. As a coach I believe it is one of the greatest strengths of a team – trust and reliability and these girls showed they have both. In alphabetical order as a coach I would love to write a little summary on my players. Annalise – It was your first season of soccer and the effort you put in was outstanding. You quickly learnt the rules and you became one of our best defenders. You scored goals, you laughed, you had fun and you made new friends. I look forward to watching you grow as a player, keep up your eager spirit and fun attitude as it will take you far. Bailey – I remember at the initial trials you were one of the friendliest girls I had come across and this continued throughout the season. I know Annalise was new to the club and she remembers you made her feel so welcome. Your playing ability was solid all season, you are a true all rounder and your tenacity on the ball is Back Row L to R: Lisa Ryan (Manager) , Bec Karantonis (Coach) second to none. You never stop trying and you put so much effort into Front Row L to R: Eden Wilson-Scott, Bailey Ryan, Annalise Karantonis, training and games, you are a coach’s dream player. Carolina – Wow, Harper Ryan, Carolina Casalliglla what a defender you became. During our first few training sessions you would pull back on the ball and shy away from tackling, but as the weeks went on and with all your hard effort at training how this changed. Your constant runs up and down the sidelines defending the ball were a sight to be seen and made for some great sideline cheerleading. By the end of the season you were tackling players and stopping balls like a true defender. You also scored goals and were a real team player. Eden – The smiling assassin. You had this ability to run and chase the ball that I had not seen in an under 7 player before. And all the while doing it with a huge grin on your face. Your speed and skill on the ball was outstanding and you could score goals that would wow the crowd. Your happiness is contagious, and you would always be ready to have a go whenever I asked, thank you for being such a ray of sunshine to the team. Harper – You were one of the best goal scorers of the season, this was due to your never give up attitude. You always put in the biggest effort at both training and in a game and it paid off as you constantly won possession of the ball and would score some goals in situations that seemed impossible. You are a lovely player to coach as you always listened and put in a huge amount of effort. Lastly, and in this age group most importantly, thank you to the parents of the girls and especially to our Manager Lisa. Without you all we would not have been able to play and train the way we did all season. The dedication and support that you showed to the team was greatly appreciated by me and the girls. We laughed, we cheered, we commiserated together. The girls won, the girls lost, the girls drew. But most importantly we all had fun and formed a team. Bring on 2021, I know I am looking forward to watching the girls on the bigger field.

W7E

Bec Karantonis Coach

What an exciting season for our boys! This was the first time many of them were in a team together and it didn’t take them long to gel as one and learn each other’s strengths on the field. While we wanted A grade, we ended up in B grade and when the team played a trial match in early March, the first signs of something special were visible. Sadly Covid hit and the season was halted. The boys were keen to get back to training as soon as they could and once the season finally started, it was obvious we had a very talented team who went on to win 11 out of 12 games during the shortened season. Most games were won by a margin of 6+ goals and we certainly knew how to find the back of the net, scoring an impressive 92 goals during the year. The team goal at the start of the season was fun, fitness, friendships and skills development. I can happily say these goals were achieved and we are extremely proud of all their effort. Lucas was our central back and constantly showed us how to clear the ball away from danger and then set up attacks wide. His ball striking has come a long way this year and his first touch has improved immensely.

Lincoln enjoyed the wing, running down the line and then crossing the ball into the middle with amazing accuracy. His corners were always dangerous to the opposition and set up many great goals. Lewis accepted the challenge of controlling our central midfield each week and showed us his enormous potential. He even achieved the goal set by coach, of scoring and assisting using both feet. Always ready and raring to go, Josh was fastest on his feet and could easily run from one end to the other in a flash. He did well scoring goals and saving them at the other end. Luca played ½ of each game in goals and what a superstar goalie he is! He saved many attempts by the opposition to score, often putting his body on the line and showing his Uncle Mossy how it’s done. Tommy was our team’s Mr Reliable, playing wherever we needed to fill a

spot, scoring goals, setting up plays and shutting down any attacks in a solid defensive display. Noah played each week with enormous spirit and developed his game well. He played in goals often and made many amazing saves and in defence he was also hard to pass. Bae enjoyed playing in attacking roles and scoring goals, showing us his skills with the ball at his feet. He was always good for a laugh enjoying a joke with the boys. Blake is a natural born defender and would tackle harder than anyone. His passing forward allowed our team to score many strong goals. It has been an absolute pleasure watching these boys grow into wonderful and skilful football players. We eagerly await to see their future development and progress. TEAM REPORTS Mini Roos With a start to the year that none of us could have predicted, the boys in the U8D’s certainly managed to make the most of the short season we all had together. Having experienced their first year of grading, it did not take long for old and new friends alike to come together to form a new team and have a great time. Despite the early loss of a player to injury just before our first match, the guys pulled together (with a bit of help from some ring in players from other U8 teams) to achieve an amazing outcome for the season, recording 11 wins out of 12 matches played! This year, the guys built on a lot of the skills they had gained through previous seasons, taking advantage of the bigger fields and goals to great success. We focused on keeping our positions on the field, working on our passing game, and just having a good time playing football. The record for the season is testament to the hard work and effort that the boys all put in. Cash and George found their place on the right and left wings respectively, with both having had a fantastic season. Cash was one of our top goal scorers for the year and would fearlessly take on players week in week out. George’s big left boot was also a great asset and helped to set up numerous goals for his team as well as landing quite a few of his own. Louis also had a solid season up front, always making sure he was in position and ready to score when the time arose. Dilhan had a dominating season and quickly showed he was a force to be reckoned with; as another of our top goal scorers for the year. No matter where the ball was, Dilhan would be there to capitalise and score, many times from halfway across the field. Xander had an awesome all-round season, however his talents really shone back in defence where his natural tendency to get himself back in position to defend against the attacking player saved us countless points and was certainly one of the key reasons for the team’s Back Row L to R: Kelly Crawley (Manager), Xander Robins, success this year. Louis Zanetti, Craig Marney (Coach) Andrew and Lee were also had a great season and improved Front Row L to R: George Skufris, Andrew Marney, Dilhan Bakan, tremendously. Both were very solid up in defensive positions this year, tirelessly defending against opposing teams and again saving Lee Huang, Cash Crawley us from numerous lost points. A late move into goals at the end of the season by Andrew also uncovered a talent in that position, with him saving some great goals in some incredibly competitive games. Poor Will suffered a broken arm before the season even kicked off, however thankfully he was able to join us for the final two matches and despite the late arrival, was a welcome addition and played some great games. I have had an absolute blast coaching the boys this season, thanks for being such an awesome group of kids, such a shame that we only got to play a short season together. I would also like to send a big thank you out to the players from the other U8 teams that regularly helped out while we were down a man, especially Lincoln for being such a regular help to the team. To all the parents, thanks for your support and assistance with the boy’s week in week out, and your patience for having to deal with a first-time coach like me. Also, a big shout out to our awesome manager Kelly who was on top of everything week in, week out making sure that we had enough players to field a game each week and that we all turned up at the right place and time. Finally, thanks to the SHFC committee, referees and other volunteers who do great work each week.

Like all of 2020, the mighty U8F s had a sputtering start of the season. However, as the combinations grew between the boys throughout the shortened season, they were soon playing football nearly as well as they were climbing trees. Our boys showed great, competitiveness, sportsmanship and most importantly, mateship throughout the season. Chris “BANG” lead the way covering more ground than any and being out leading goal scorer. “Elaborate” Eli dazzled is with his fancy footwork, while Jetta “the jet” seemed to pop up everywhere. “TRex “ Tyson was our defensive gun who showed great striking ability late in the season as his confidence grew. “Strategy Man” Miller continued to confuse opposition and parents alike with his clever ploys and trickery. “Marvelous” Marcus also grew throughout the year being the consummate all rounder. First season “Big Boot” Lachlan reveled in defending showing amazing abilities all around the park, especially loving his time in goals. “Roving “ Reilly developed throughout the season learning to love the game and leading the team through Fair-Play and sportsmanship. It has been a pleasure to watch the U8F’s grow throughout the year. I would like to thank all the parents for their support all season, especially Manager Maria who organised us all, keeping us in line.

If you believe, dreams really do come true!

Remember back to that first training session. We’d finally been given the green light to play, and the boys were overflowing with excitement and enthusiasm. They were all so happy just to be running around with their friends after being couped up in lock down for so long. Whilst their passion for the game was strong, their skills were rusty and some had never played in competition before. Coach Aiman was up to the challenge. He knew that the boys could do it. Running drills and training hard, quickly transformed them into the champion team they have become. The team believed in themselves and won the first game of the season, then the next and the next. The goals kept coming, and our defence was impassable. Everyone had a role to play in the team, and they could all be relied upon to do their job, or lift to provide that extra effort when needed. Whilst the winning was great, it was most pleasing to see them beam with joy and grow into the young men they have become. We would also like to acknowledge the many other teams that supported us with additional players. This helped maintain our near undefeated record, but also exposed our boys to the skills, abilities and friendship of others. Thank you, we couldn’t have done it without you! Aiman Gouda Coach

I couldn't be more proud to coach the U8WA soccer team, these girls have improved so much throughout the year, their passing, ballhandling and vision of the game shows why they are the team of the year in my eyes. They were enthusiastic at training, always willing to learn and listen to myself and Brett which showed on game day!! Our girls were definitely one of the more tactical sides this year, which will only improve and help going forward. We always try to make sure the girls are having fun, play together as a team and display excellent sportsmanship, They are little superstars in the making. Thank you to the parents and grandparents for all of your efforts to make sure the girls made it to training and games. This year has had it’s challenges and we truly thank you for your support. A special thank you to our manager Brett, your ongoing organisation of game day preparations, time keeping to make sure all the girls have a fair go and continuing to support me and the team whenever it was needed. We couldn’t do this without you! Now for the most important part onto our little soccer superstars. Firstly Bronte, the hunger you show week to week is outstanding, so competitive and willing to do anything to get that ball. Your soccer skills and ball strike that scares most kids is incredible and can’t wait to see you grow with this team. Mariana you have improved greatly this year and finding new skills and positions during the year, your goal line defence has been great to see and outstanding as a goalkeeper too saving some sensational goals. Josephine you have shown such a passion for soccer during the year, with your speed down the wing and taking shots from outside the box, scoring some cracker goals shows your confidence growing in the game. Klaudia you can play any position on the field with confidence. You show amazing ball skills and hustle, from one on one tackles to clearing the ball down the sideline and creating opportunities for the team. Eleanor you have the ability to read the game like no other, great dribbling skills and hunger to get that ball. You have scored and saved some terrific goals throughout the season. Abigail my sole defender, you can clear the ball from one side of the field to another, always alert of what’s going on and always trying to get to the ball first so it doesn’t reach our goals. Jordan my funniest girl in the team, always trying to make sure I’m focused! You have zero fear and you are definitely my allrounder, great mind set of the game from defending to attacking. Bella you have improved so much throughout the year. You are great around the ball, zipping past opponents to clear the ball, showing determination and always eager to help your team out! We had an outstanding year and I cannot wait till next year, bring on the 9A's....

TEAM REPORTS Mini Roos As we are all aware, 2020 has been an interesting year to say the least with Covid restrictions and the like. In saying that from a football perspective it was a season we couldn’t wait to get stuck into with a few new girls coming on board, we welcomed Isabella, Leilani, Kristina and Ashlyn, all of whom settled in quite well to the fun dynamic of the W8C’s team, the girls got along like a house on fire from day one. From a footballing perspective and as a coach, it is even more exciting and enjoyable working with kids that are keen to learn and that are enthusiastic about trying to improve their game. One of my main goals this year was to do my best to develop each players skills set so training was focused primarily on ball mastery and the importance on laying a good foundation off the core skills of football, whether it be dribbling, shooting, passing or generally becoming more comfortable with the ball at their feet. I think I can honestly say that most of our girls have improved considerably from where we were only 3 or so months ago. From a competition perspective we had our challenges, but it wasn’t from a lack of trying or a lack of effort, the girls all gave 150% and I couldn’t be more proud of the effort they put in each and every week, the best part about it is they walked off the field with big grins on their faces and had fun, which for me is what it’s all about. As the season went on, we improved with our positional play and spatial awareness and started to score some cracking goals much to the excitement of the dedicated supporters on the side lines who would turn up week in week out waiting eagerly for that elusive win. That first win came on the Back Row L to R: Chantelle Atwood (Manager), Yasmin Moussa, last day of the season, and what a win it was, up 1-0 and then down 2-1, the girls fought back in a courageous effort to win 3-2. Jade McIlwraith, Kristina Bouziotis, Nick Vacondios (Coach) It was party time and off to Maccas we went to celebrate. Front Row: Ashlyn Comb, Mia Vacondios, Bia Constantinidis, Throughout the season we had some exceptional performances. Leilania Winchester, Isabella Moffatt Leading our front line was Jade who had a real eye for goal and made the strikers role look so simple with her dribbling skills and cheeky backheels, her partner in crime Ashlyn, our little pocket rocket with speed to burn and always full of energy never failed to have a few goals up her sleeve as well. In the midfield the ever reliable and determined Yasmin who worked tirelessly to block, defend and win the ball back for her team, she was a constant menace to the opposition with her dribbling skills and hunger to win. Also in the midfield we had the ever present and fearless Bia always getting stuck in and getting her boot on the end of the ball in search of a team mate upfield, throw ins (with a cheaky smirk) were also Bia’s specialty and the anticipation (on the side lines) while she took her throw ins was one of the highlights of the season for me. Our two newest recruits and midfielders were the consistent and skillful Isabella who despite it being her first season, developed some great dribbling skills which she used every week to weave in and out of the opposition and Leilani, who just seemed to go from strength to strength every week, she was always involved and ready to help out the defenders or the attackers with her speed and energy. At the back we had the super reliable and rock solid Kristina who would put fear in the eyes of opposition attackers with her strong and powerful kicks and coverage of the defensive line along with the energetic and competitive Mia who would always seem to pop up at the right time to block a shot or win a ball at the last moment with her strong tackles, she never stopped running and always gave her all. I am extremely proud of all the girls and the progress they’ve made, thank you girls for a great year. Special thanks goes out to our team manager Chantelle for all her efforts this year and for your die hard support and passion on the sidelines. Last but not least, finally a massive thank you to all the parents for your support and dedication throughout the year, it’s been a tough year for all, I hope the smiles that football has brought to your kids faces has made this year a little easier to deal with. Hoping for a bigger and better year next year. Go the Trees!

STATS: 10wins, 2 losses. 48 goals scored, 6 against.

This year our team was a mixture of 2 Magpies, 2 Berries, 1 Rover and 5 returning Trees, and to say this team has an amazingly bright future ahead is an understatement. The way 10 boys gelled so quickly and became good mates was a great achievement, and it showed in the entertaining style of football they played.

Surprisingly enough, even with such a diverse background of clubs that these boys came from, their skill and ability levels were extremely even which lead to everyone trying hard each and every Saturday. Most of the kids had a go at each position, from back to front and left side to right side which they all adapted to easily and confidently. No matter what combinations we used, the team constantly performed. As the season progressed we saw each

players skills and confidence grow. We were all proud of the improvement in them. This group of boys were a funny and enjoyable group to coach and were all keen to listen and learn both at training and on Saturdays. I am proud to say we had great team culture and I'm sure the boys have made lasting friendships. Attendance at training was excellent, and we got through a large volume of drills in which the boys were able to absorb a lot of football knowledge. This will put them in good stead for the larger grounds they'll be playing on next year and hopefully also gaining promotion to a higher grade. Lastly, a big Thank you to Kellie for managing, and all the parents who along with their boys made this year such a great and enjoyable year. We had another fantastic year with a great bunch of kids and their families. The boys really enjoyed their football and the results on the score board showed as the lads only lost the one game all year. It was great to see all the boys improve so much over the course of a shortened season and I think they are more than ready to play on the larger pitch next year. Adam always showed his silky skills and scored a memorable hat trick. When Austin wasn’t saving goals with his superb defence he was scoring them in attack. Bryce scored some screamer goals and got the match winner a few times. Dylan was as always fearless in defence and scored some great goals. Henning got to show his flair late in the season with some good football. Lewis who has tremendous skill as a goalkeeper also showed off his class in the outfield too. Ryan has great determination and was feared by all opposing strikers with his defensive skills. Max never took a backwards step in defence and made some great crosses in the midfield. Zac who can run all game scored goals and also set up a heap goals with his passing skills. Thank you to Wendy for managing the season seamlessly. Also thank you too all the lads, mums, dads, grandparents and family who came and supported the team. Go the Trees!!

Well what a season it has been with all the Covid distractions! The season was postponed for a few months and then a lot of rules were imposed for training and games. We got through it! The boys never lost their enthusiasm. Attendance at training and games was excellent. We finished with an enviable record of 8 Wins 2 Draws and 2 Losses. The key focus this year was teamwork, passing and movement off the ball. It was pleasing to see to see how far all the boys have progressed in playing their positions and true to our name “Orange Legends” moving the ball from defence to attack quickly. A big thank you to our coach for his excellent training sessions and working on each boy’s specific development needs. Overall it has been a pleasure to see all the boys enjoying themselves and improving each week. Andy, top scorer for the 3rd year in a row with his passing improving the most. Paul, quick, determined and the best 1 on 1 record. Rocco, great at overtaking players on the left wing, corner specialist and distance goal scorer. Patrice, our rock in the goal and versatile on the field, a real team player. Isaac, our most improved, stood his ground against much taller kids and the best at throw ins. Will, our reliable sweeper, pin-point accuracy in his passing, positioning and ball handling. Marco, our all-round specialist, good in every position and great on the ball. Lukas, determined and unpredictable, scoring regularly. Dion, passionate, determined and a raw will, a real dribbler. Hayden, strong-minded and great acceleration with the ball. TEAM REPORTS Mini Roos Despite all the challenges faced this year to start the season, we had a remarkable one. I am ever so proud of everyone in the team. Throughout the season, we focused on improving mobility, passing, anticipation and the importance of keeping positions. Considering we only had just over half of the normal season to play, the kids have concluded this season with amazing results and all have improved at an incredible rate. During training sessions, they were able to respond to new drills and concepts and it was a joy to see that improvement during game time. All kids have their preferred position in the field; however, they were able to adjust and perform when asked to rotate positions (even having a go at goalkeeping as we didn’t have a goalkeeper) They all volunteered and we witnessed amazing saves from all. In no particular order: Christopher, one of our main attackers and a very keen soccer player, always trying to turn that ball into a goal. Constantly causing trouble to the opponent. Easily one of our main goal scorers. Flynn, fearless to take on players, his footwork allowed him to go past many. Mainly playing in midfield, he was able to attack and provide goal assists. Hayden, a player that fights for the ball, had a massive improvement that was reflected on the field. Played as defensive midfielder with the freedom to attack. Scored some astounding goals and a hat trick for him this season. Jacob, working in unison with Chris up Back Row L to R: Daniel Pick (Manager), Jayden McKiernan, Jacob Batani, front. Worked endlessly to get the ball. Very fast and composed. A menace at front and an impenetrable Olivier Sanchez, William Galopoulos, Dario Casaliglla (Coach) wall while at the back (when defending). Jason, Front Row L to R: Miguel Casaliglla, Jason Tolatsis, Flynn Malherbe-Denning, experienced a massive improvement, always giving Hayden Pick, Christopher Bountros, Absent: Sally Pick (Manager) 100% for the team. Playing as defending midfield proved to be a good fit for him and improved his game form. Jayden, is a versatile player. Mainly played as defender and was our protector at the back. No fear, always giving his 100% to get the ball. Performed very well at front too. Immense improvement with his passing and anticipation. Miguel, had a significant improvement. His vision of the game and anticipation allowed him to provide many goals assists this year, specially while taking corners. One of our main defenders this year. Olivier, a joy to watch while he’s defending. Absolutely no fear, very hard for any opponent to go past him. William, although we had to rotate positions, he embraced them well through the season and was able to gain a strong grasp of them all. He gave 100% commitment when tackling the opponent for the ball. Parents, a big “Thank You” for all the cheering!! It was truly uplifting to see you all supporting and encouraging your kids and the team. Every game your presence was noticed and well received by the team. Sally, thank you for managing and looking after everything related to the team.

Looking back on the rough patches of the 2020 season it is easy to say that U9Gs have played with a perseverance and enthusiasm that exemplified the reason we were all there: “Let’s play soccer!” Ethan’s energy and speed in the centre of the field, combined with his read of the game, allowed for many opportunities for the team to advance further up the field. This was rewarded at the end of the season with some exceptional goals made by Ethan. Callan’s eagerness to play soccer was infectious. His forceful kicks and determination to win the ball meant many players of the opposing team stood no chance. Callan also filled in the role of goalkeeper for many games, always happy to put his hand up to serve his team. James’ fitness and energetic runs made him a great centre-mid and centre forward player. His focus on improving his footwork skills paid off and he played tirelessly each and every game. James was a terrific team player making passes and supporting his teammates with a kind word. Lucas was our Golden Boot winner this year, with an unprecedented six-minute hat trick as an example of his striking skills. There was not much the opponents could do as he came streaking up the field with the ball at his feet. Nikolaos’ strength on the field was matched with his ability to strike on target. His capability to read the game allowed for excellent passing creating numerous assists for others. Spencer solidified himself as a centre mid-fielder consistently maintaining his position and hustling in defence. His footwork and tenacity to win and hold the ball meant many opportunities for our team. Domenic, our other goalie, saved a number of potential goals with enthusiasm and gusto. He served in his defensive position as a player who gave it his all and always with a supportive comment for his teammates. Xavier was every coach’s defensive dream, consistently defending the goal every, single game. He never wavered as the ball or the opponents approached and his enjoyment in watching the ball soar over their heads to the other end of the field was priceless.

“Before kids can play like a pro, they must enjoy playing the game like a kid” (Steve Locker, who coached Harvard University and worked closely with AC Milan), and the enjoyment of the game could be seen each week from all the U9G players. Thank you to Coach Chris and the parents for making this happen, but especially to the boys – what a season! Can’t wait to see you all in 2021 where we can shout out again, “Let’s play soccer!” Alexis Auciello Manager

SYLVANIA HEIGHTS FOOTBALL CLUB 2020 YEARBOOK

What a challenging 2020 season! We have had the pleasure to coach, manage and watch these amazing young ladies grow each week both individually and as a team. Compared to the previous season our W9A’s didn’t have too many changes (other than the COVID rules). We welcomed back seven girls from 2019, one from 2018 and gained one new player from another club. All the girls new each other and their positions so it was easy to get back in the swing of things. The girls accepted the new covid-19 rules at the beginning of the season and followed the guidelines. At first training consisted of a lot of fitness work and ball control skills. This proved to be extremely useful once they started playing games. The ‘larger’ field from the previous season, didn’t seem so big this year. But the girls learnt to control their kicks and keep the ball in the field better. The W9A’s worked as a team and were undefeated all season. They knew the subbing system and it worked perfectly with the two super subs.It was always pleasing to hear so many other teams comment on how well our girls played together and played in their position. The girls were a little too polite and needed to get a little more assertive in the game at times. Often half Back Row L to R: Belinda Laverance, (Manager), Alexia Mathison, Grace Culbert, time inspiration by the coach allowed for a more Peyton Shaw, Riley Pallister, Belinda Whitbread (Coach) focused and determined 2nd half ensuring the win. Front Row L to R: Charli Moses, Bronte Whitbread, Charli Whitbread, Anna Fleming, Georgia Laverance The girls worked on their passing this season which resulted in some amazing goals being scored.

W9A

The W9A’s all improved and developed their understanding of the game and showed up with a positive attitude to both training and our games. Alexia is our super-sub and covers all positions when players are away. She is our total all-rounder and reads the game brilliantly. She played mainly in defence, but when she made a break with the ball no one could catch her. Anna is our defensive rock. Super reliable and never out of position, she’d rip into her tackles, clear the ball and stopped numerous goals this year. Bronte is our other super-sub, subbing in for all positions in the front line. She showed great control with the ball, was always looking to pass and finished off some amazing goals. She scored some vital goals when the game was close. Her tally was 6 goals for the season. Charli M is our new recruit and we are glad she came to join us. One of our forwards, she is amazing with the ball at her feet. Scoring two hattricks this season, and a total of 15 goals for the season. Her quality finishing won us many games. Charli W began the season as our goalkeeper, but after a few rounds she made her way on to the field. For one of our smaller players she did a great job clearing the ball out of the defensive line. She improved and gained confidence every week and managed to come away with a stack of clean sheets. Georgia was back in the right game after having 2019 off to play netball. After a few rounds, those netball skills came in handy and Georgia had a go in goals. Once we knew how good she was, Charli W and Georgia decided to share the role and they both played half a game on goals each week. Georgia was confident in goals and would throw herself around, saving many goal opportunities. Grace is still our super striker. Always calm and patient up front and scored almost half our goals (including a few hat tricks). She only needed half a chance to come her way and she’d find the back of the net. Grace scored an amazing three hattricks this season and a total of 12 goals for the season which is she achieved in 9 rounds as she missed the first 4 rounds due to her broken arm. Peyton is another one of our fullbacks. She is a strong tackler and her killer throw-ins put us on the front foot in attack. As the season progressed Peyton developed a powerful kick and was persistent in not allowing anyone past her. Finally, our ultra-competitive Riley. She loved playing forward and was determined to score and used her body well in attack. Some of her goals helped to win the game. We think a few defenders in the comp are still having nightmares thanks to Riley’s tenacious play. Special thanks to all our parents, grandparents and families who supported the girls throughout the season getting them to training and games on time. Thank you for abiding by the one parent rule which was difficult for the parents. We are so proud of every player and how much they have improved over the shirt season. Well done W9A’s and see you back in 2021! Belinda Whitbread Coach

What a season! I couldn't be more proud to coach the W9C football team. It has been really rewarding watching the girls grow into a team this year and it showed with the great results we had on the field. A highlight of the year was the girls attitude of never giving up.

Sofia is our natural defender and always willing to make a strong tackle. Heidi who had an eye for goal and always willing to chase a ball down. Veronica who made important saves as a goalie and defender. Eliza worked hard in the midfield and scored important goals. Kayla and Annalise who both joined the team this year brought great energy and speed to the team. Ella-Jae our dribbler who started a lot of our attacks and Eva who worked hard all season and always full of energy. Thank you girls for a great year, we are all proud of you. TEAM REPORTS Mini Roos After a difficult and delayed start to the season for everyone, the U10A's played a great season of football, supported by a wonderful set of parents. It's been a real delight to see the boys take what we taught and practice in training each week and bring it onto the field on a Saturday. Building on what the boys learnt last season, we focused on how to receive the ball and open up the field of play; to hold field position; more advanced positional play when attacking and movement on and off the ball. We've introduced more consistency in field position and provided more direct feedback to the boys, all of which has been well received and supported them in their football development. Fletcher put his hand up to be in goal and pulled off some great saves to keep us in some very tight games. Our defence was outstanding and each of the boys put in maximum commitment each week. Max at right back is a defender that never gives up and was also a super sub stand-in goalie. Kaan often got the team out of trouble with his great tackling skills and clearance of the ball. Ryan, new to the team, fitted in perfectly on the left-hand side and Jake with his accurate passes Back Row L to R: Charles Keane (Manager), Noah Farley, Fletcher Massone, Ryan Poole, and willingness to try different field positions and Hugo Keane, Julian Bova, Magnus Peterson (Coach) Matt Hughes (Coach) runs from the back. Front Row L to R: Kean Mitchell, Kaan Huseyin, , Jenson Groos, Jake Farmer, Our midfield players became a strong unit throughout the season. Callum on the left with his Max Fleming, Shane Bevan, Jamie Hughes, Callum Peterson strong ball skills and speed was able turn players at will. In the centre, Kean, was able to quickly turn defence into attack both through the middle and using the flanks. On the right Hugo was able to open the field and make powerful runs to beat players and put balls into the box. Jenson was quick on the ball and attacked well through the middle, whilst Julian was one of our most versatile players and could play well wherever he played and would chase every ball down. Finally, our forwards did an amazing job at receiving the ball and creating goal scoring opportunities. Noah was super quick out-running the opposition and, on one occasion, scored from the kick-off. Shane was also strong and quick on the ball and showed great pace and energy, creating shooting opportunities whenever he received the ball and Jamie with his superb ball skills and passing was able to open up the field of play and create chances from nothing. A special thanks goes to Magnus Petersson for his great coaching support and Charlie Keane for his role as Manager. Thanks again to all the boys and the parents and I very much look forward to coaching the boys' next season!

While we all can agree 2020 is the year everyone wants to forget... the U10C's had a outstanding year and I know the memories will be with them (and me) forever!! Out of the 13 rounds we got to play, they won 8 games, drew 2, lost 1 and had a bye thrown in there too. The team included a great bunch of kids who loved the game. While some kids played together last year, there was a lot of new faces which meant new relationships had to be formed. It was evident from the first game that they all would turn up for each other, cheer for each other and give that pat on the back to each other when there was a mistake. By the last game, it was like watching a game on tv!! Their passing was on point, their defending was a rock but their sportsmanship was second to none.

U10C

Oliver was one of our main sources of goals, his boot would take your head off!! Blake kept our defenses in check and did his best to stop anything coming towards him. Samuel was the smallest but he played like a giant, always giving 100%. While Joshua was one of the quieter kids at training, he played with determination and fierceness to rival anyone. While Noah scored quite a bit this season, he was my all-rounder who I could put almost anywhere and he would

get the job done. Nick was our left wing maestro who improved as the season went on, not only scoring but assisting quite a bit as well. Gregory was another source of scoring and assisting but his read of the game was unparalleled. Peter's game really improved this season and his defensive efforts really helped the team win games. Zach had a great year in goals and out. He had some fantastic saves and his crosses went next level. Our other brick wall in goals was Kye. I always say that a goal saved is like a goal scored, and Kye saved a lot of them throughout the season. Henry and Mattao shared the right wing. Henry was our speedster who chased anything down whether it was attacking or defending. Mattao loved running down the line and made a habit of setting up goals. Aidan was "the new guy". New to the club and to the sport, however he caught on very quickly and became one of the team’s main defenders. I would like to thank Jennifer for her great efforts as manager and all the parents for their support throughout the year. Lastly, to the boys, I am extremely proud of your efforts from the first game to the last and I wish you all great success in the future! Mario Violaris Coach

What a great group of boys the U10D’s are. There were a few first-time players in the team and they played amazing for their first outing and fit in with the boys so well. I have to commend the boys for their positive attitudes and willingness to have a go throughout the season. They were all wiling to play different positions, but 2020 was not the year for our boys however they continued to persist every week. As the season progressed, they developed as a team and continued to learn and support one another. As a coach it is nice to see the continued respect, they had for each other and opponents even when things did not go their way. Although this was not their season for wins and frustration was there for all the boys they kept persisting, had fun and had a great team spirit. Thank you for all the parents that supported on the sidelines and helped keep our spirits high. Well done boys.

Thankfully restrictions eased and we managed to play some football. This is the season we welcomed Tiffany & Izzy to our squad from last year. It didn't take long for all the girls to bond together. Every week the girls worked hard, developing as a team as well as individually. You could see their passion to win as they played competitively all season. Ruby is fearless on the field no matter how tough the opposition appear to be, always showing determination in defence. Tahlia has a never give up attitude on the field, constantly doing her best and trying even harder if she was injured or things weren't going our way. Willow is a great all rounder and able to play any position well. Proving reliable no matter where she was on the field. Emma is super enthusiastic each week, always eager to play and a valuable player of the team. Erin is a courageous defender who quickly returns the ball back down the field., Tiffany fit straight back into the team and you wouldn't know she had left, quickly finding her feet and stunning the opposition. Back Row L to R: Sandy Murr (Manager), Jade Strahl, Izzy Wilson,. Tiffany Mafrici, Naomi with her passion for soccer came through in Erin Lamb, Emma Hristopanos, Taylor Shaw, Scott Comb (Coach) her game and had a knack for delivering a good assist. Taylor one of our hardest workers, always Front Row L to R: Ruby Bliss, Alana Tripodina, Willow Daly, determined in both goals and especially on the field. Tahlia Comb, Mia Turner, Joanna Theouli, Naomi Murr Jade could easily run at lightning speed, chasing down the ball, dependable and loved to shoot a goal. Joanna showed great skills and determination, always winning the contest for the ball. Alana, a natural defender, ready to attack making it difficult for the opposition to score. Mia always gives 100% every week chasing down the ball and helping out her team. Isabelle joined the team not knowing any of the girls but was quickly a valued member of the team and proving to be dangerous at striker. A big thank you to Scott who kindly took over the job of coach this season. It was a pleasure to manage the girls and so nice to watch the them bonding, improving and having fun, all at the same time. Thank you to the mums and dads for graciously helping out with club duties, bringing the kids to training and helping the team recharge at halftime with oranges they happily devoured.

The U11As played out the year with mixed success .Due to COVID the season was disrupted with only 12 rounds being played, winning 4 games, draw 1 and 7 defeats. The boys played with 110% enthusiasm and showed sportsmanship throughout the season. The season started slowly with 4 losses in a row, then we went on a run of 5 games without defeat and although losing the last 3 games we showed that we had improved and could compete against the top teams. We showed glimpses of passing the ball around and playing as a team, hence, opening up the good teams eg. Lilli Pilli, Cronulla RSL, showing we were getting an understanding. All the players improved during the year. Lukas scored a few goals and showed some good touches and provided some assists. Boston and Zahn, the newcomers to the team showed they were solid in defence and with another season with the boys will continue to improve. Julian finished as leading goal-scorer after starting the season slowly, scored 5 goals in one game, and was voted Golden Boot. Zach showed good skills on the ball and was starting to get his head up. Oliver was consistent during the year with a few goals and was voted the teams Player of the Year. Jeffrey shows he could be a useful goalkeeper and he also showed signs of teamwork. The twins, Aidan and Kai were tried in different positions this year brought great energy to the team. A couple of goals would of capped off there year. Kai B scored three goals in his debut year in the A’s. Will continued to read the game well and was a point of difference when pushed into the forwards. Special thanks to Ivan, Kirsty and our manager Nicole for the efforts throughout the season. A big thank you to the parents who supported the boys throughout the season with canteen and BBQ duties and also off the field in making team for training. All the boys had a great time at training and were valued for their efforts and contribution to every game. Well done boys! Look forward to seeing you next season. Ivan Ronzon Coach

Well 2020 has certainly been an interesting year! From learning to be Covid safe to practicing social distancing at training and soccer games the boys have done everything we asked of them. It has been difficult on the team and on families only having one parent at most games and sometimes only the Coach at training sessions but we all did our best to adjust. Despite only playing 12 rounds the boys had a really great season and consistently played well with 8 great wins, 2 losses and 2 draws.

The boys displayed great teamwork, played fair and were happy to rotate positions throughout the game. Oscar, James and Joe provided a strong back line but showed us they were equally capable in the

mid-field. Noah, Lucas and Aniken were strong players and definitely our best goalies supplying our team with quite a few epic saves. Riley, Harry and Isaak were our tireless mid-fielders covering the field of play in attack and defence. Nate and Kaleb, our fast thinking forwards were always ready to cause headaches for the opposition with their sharp attack skills. It was an absolute pleasure to watch the boys improve and gain confidence over the season. They all showed a huge improvement in reading the game and passing the ball. We cannot wait to see how they play next year in their first round of competition games. A huge thank you to all of the parents for their support with canteen, BBQ and field duties. And a very special thanks to Jani for coaching the boys and to Mel for managing the team. We can’t wait to see you all again next year for another great season.

U11F

This season started out … with a fizzle. No sooner had we got everyone linked to TeamApp, organised a training time and finally met for our first two trainings, then lockdown occurred. Who knew when or if we’d meet up again? Thankfully and with much gratitude to the club for making things work in such amazing circumstances, the U11F’s season really began. And what a season it was!!! Alexander slotted in as our main goalkeeper. His agility and focus in this position kept our goals-conceded to a minimum. These characteristics were equally displayed on-field, crafting an all-round player for our team. Anthony, our U11F golden boot winner this year, with 11 goals, displayed a lethal shot and a fantastic eye for reading the play, creating numerous assists for others. Always a danger when the ball was at his feet, Anthony was a vital element to our attack. Christian solidified himself as a centre mid-fielder this year consistently maintaining his position and hustling in defence … and always with a smile! He never backed-out of a challenge and his tenacity never wavered. Dylan; by far the most active player on the field week-in and week-out running kilometres for every game. He was able to win the ball in defence and convert that immediately to an attempt on goal, weaving in and around each and every opposing player he came across. Iggy; our defensive Rock of Gibraltar. His defensive play this year has only been enhanced with his confidence on the ball Back Row L to R: Alexis Auciello (Manager), Jacob Karaky, Ignatius Roberto, shown in his calm and skillful footwork when the pressure was on. Anthony Hondrous, Xavier Auciello, Nekta Hondrous (Coach) Jacob’s speed created many attacking opportunities, which Front Row L to R: Jeff Fowler, Yianni Kalemkeridis, Alexander Plakias, allowed the play to advance further up the field. His Dylan Lomas, Christian Alessi Absent: Kasra Gorjipour determination to win and hold the ball for every minute of the game created a lot of his own (5 goals) and the team’s goal scoring opportunities. Jett exhibited enhanced control on his impressive striking of the ball, leaving the crowd ‘oohing’ and ‘aahing’ each time he attempted on goal. In the centre of the park he was a formidable defensive player. Kasra’s skill and touch on the ball was exceptional and an added asset to the attacking aspect of the team. He left his opponents wondering, “what had happened” as he passed them, through his tight control of the ball and speed of play. Yianni, our second highest goal scorer, with 7 goals (8 up his sleeve having scored the first goal for the U12 team for whom he subbed)! His pronounced positional play this year meant he was in the right place at the right time for scoring. Xavier, Coach’s Player of the Year, was a consistent and solid defender for the team with his ability to win the ball. His teammates respected his read of the game responding to his marshalling of the team’s positions, which in turn supported the play of the game. What made this season the best of them all was the comradery of the players. Every training they would eagerly wait for Coach Nekta’s instructions, play mini-games with the gusto of a grand final and make parents wait in the cold past the finish time as they bombarded Coach with questions about plays they could make and analysis of their last match. And so, the season ended … with a bang! With 11 wins and 1 draw, U11Fs remained undefeated. Thank you to Coach Nekta, the best group of parents and most importantly to the boys themselves. We are all so proud of you! Alexis Auciello Manager

TEAM REPORTS Mini Roos What an incredible season these young ladies have had. A team of lovely kids that share a love of soccer…. and wow can they play! It has been a very tough year for the girls with only one sub, as our best scenario (this only happened twice all season). The girls became accustomed to no subs and playing on with no rest. The development over the year has been incredible and the communicators on the field have started coming out - those rare players that can read the game and instruct their team mates accordingly. It has also been interesting to see our girls reaction to opposition team infighting – very foreign to our happy bunch. A nice reminder to them how lucky they are to be encouraged by team mates. Grace – A beautiful soccer player. Grace makes it look easy and has amazing control, she can read play and make constructive passes. Tulli – This kid is a pocket rocket. Tulli can outrun any defender and pull off a goal from any angle. Tulli is calm under pressure and gets the job done. Caris – From one our best defenders to one of best midfielders. Caris has fabulous soccer skills and is starting to find her voice on the field. Bella – No one gets past Bella and she will not flinch at taking on 3 opposition players. Bella has great vision and works hard the entire game. Georgia – From the first to the last game, the improvement has been astonishing. This was Georgia’s first season of soccer, but you wouldn’t know it now. Her confidence and ability has come so far.Maddie – Our very speedy, yet quiet achiever. Maddie takes on players twice her size and does not hold back, scoring some Back Row L to R: Christie Considine (Manager), Georgia Hatton, Gabriella Spink, amazing goals this year. Elaria – A consistent goal scorer. Elaria is listening and trying to Grace Considine, Kristy Farr (Coach), improve each week. Front Row L to R: Kalarni Judd, Chelsea Sumich, Addison Farr, Caris Troy, Kalarni – There are no words to describe the natural competitive nature of Kalarni. Giving 150% each week. Directing players and Maddi Harrop Absent: Elaria Eskaroos, Tulli Slattery running non stop every single game. Chelsea – Our most versatile player. Chelsea can play any position with confidence and a smile. A very valued member of our team. Addison – A big growth in both confidence and ability this year. Addison is a great defender and is finding her soccer voice. Thank you for allowing me to coach your daughters this season, it has been an absolute pleasure. Thank you to Christie for managing, it has been a tricky season with so few players. Next year we are on the big field and the girls are ready – can’t wait to watch them grow as soccer players and as friends. We need a few more players, so hopefully we can have a good number of players. Keep the girls practicing their skills and can’t wait to see them all together again next year.

Another season done and dusted, albeit a short season due to the crazy times of COVID-19. I wasn’t sure we would get a chance to kick the ball around the park, but eventually we did, and the girls started out the season in style going the first 6 rounds without a loss. This year we welcomed the Scarlett to the team and she slotted in perfectly. Her strong defensive work came straight into play and even when she was told she was going up front, (a new position) she didn’t struggle with the workload. Next year more time up the front!!!!! Our backline was as strong as ever, Elka & Emily – solid, just solid and worked in extremely well with Scarlett. The girls get to play all positions throughout the season, and it shows. In the final game Elka was moved up front and quickly bagged a hat trick of goals before asking to be moved back into the backs and Em – so close so many times!!!!! Tina and Tori on the wings. Their speed and footwork getting the ball down the sideline and passing through to those up front has improved tenfold over the season and set up many of the Teams goals. Our mids/strikers, Syenna, always in for the hard tackles, great passes and shooting goals from halfway!!! Keira on fire as always. Her speed and ability to move around the opposition scored her plenty of goals including 2 hat tricks.. Ava was solid up the front and always ready when the ball came near her, Maya and her boot, used perfectly, the Back Row L to R: Troy Davis (Manager), Tina Stratikopoulos, Keira Moukatas, corners – so close, nice airtime and just waiting for the tap in. Maya Jackson, Josie David, Grant Barlow (Coach) Josie showed her ability to play all position’s extremely well and was this season’s resident penalty taker scoring 2 goals Front Row L to R: Elka Coombes, Syenna Saba, Ava Bray, from 2 shots. Scarlett Palmero, Emily Schrader, Tori Barlow These 10 girls played great football this season and should hold their heads high, I know I‘m proud of them all. Statistics from the year show just how well the girls went. 12 rounds with 8 wins, 2 draws just the one loss and a bye. 36 goals for and only 10 against The girls’ solid defence and unassailable attack is a credit to them all as a Team!! A big thankyou to Grant for taking the time to Coach and encourage you all and help you all develop new skills throughout the season. Thankyou to all the parents who took the time to run these girls around the Shire to get them to the games, for joining in at training, for supporting the girls all the way at every game and volunteering your time for duty when we played at home. And a final thanks to the SHFC Committee for their support throughout the season.

Congratulations to the U12A boys for a fantastic 1st season of competition football. The boys finished runners up (7wins, 3draws 2defeats, +10 goal difference) in what was a very tough competition. The boys should be extremely proud of their achievement considering they played the whole season with only 1 substitute and the fact that the team does not have a regular goalkeeper. Overall, there was considerable improvement across all players and positions. The boys quickly adapted to playing on the larger field and realised the importance of maintaining possession, ball movement and interchange passing. I was particularly proud to see them develop their understanding of formation, positioning and how to create and use space. It was also great to see the boys demonstrate a willingness to dig deep in close games and stand firm against physical teams to secure wins/ draws. Congratulations also go to Brandon, Byron, and George P for being awarded the Players’ Player, Coaches and Most Improved awards respectively. To our main defenders Nathan, George C, Justen and Nicholas you deserve particular praise for your performances this year. Over 12 rounds, you only conceded 12 goals (7 of which coming in just two games) and kept 6 clean sheets. This is a marvelous achievement considering other teams have the additional advantage of regular goalkeepers. You also deserve praise for listening, understanding and persevering with learning to play out from the back. To our midfielders Harrison, Gabriel, Zane and Byron you consistently dominated opposing teams through

your combination of tough tackling, energy and attacking creativity. You all showed a strong commitment to maintaining possession, ball control and delivering great service to our attackers. To our attackers Luka, Brandon, Christian and George P you should be very pleased with your efforts. We finished with the second highest goals scored and you consistently created many goal scoring opportunities particularly from wide positions. On many occasions our wing play from both sides was simply fantastic. To our wonderful families and extended families, thank you for continuing to show your support for the boys particularly given the challenging conditions. Thank you again to our manager Kiri Pizel for her assistance and also thanks to our assistant coach Alexander Cardamis who joined us this year. On a final note, all things considered the U12A’s should be immensely proud of their achievements both individually and collectively. I look forward to building on this years success in 2021. Congratulations to the U12C for a successful year in their first year of competitive football. The majority of the team have been together for a couple of years now and they have all shown growth and improvement in our loved sport. The boys should be very proud with what they achieved this year with the number of players we had available. The team’s performance this year was brilliant, only losing one game and finishing second by only three points and having only conceded 10 goals in the season. The boys attitude to training and the games really stepped up this year and the inclusion of Zach and Vuk to our team only bolstered the overall strength of our team. I want to also thank Dean our manager who always assisted and supported the team when he could, considering that Andrew was on the mend after a season ending injury. We really look forward to having Andrew back next year. As the coach, it is so rewarding to see your team develop and enjoy their football and this was evident in the way the boys played this year and produced some quality football all season round. I’ll run through each of the players and try to summarise their strengths. I’ll start with Raymond. what can we say? ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ ,really improved this year and found his feet as one of our strikers and used his towering height as an advantage. Luka our goal-scorer who could turn the defence inside out with one of his silky turns and his upbeat attitude rubbed off on all of his teammates. Alex our ever consistent performer and didn’t know how to give up Back Row L to R: Dean Theouli (Manager), Vuk Stojanovic, Lucas Camelo De Olivera, improved with his skills and even netted a couple away. Raymond Gao, Alex Fleming, Nick Bouziotis (Coach) George C, finally realised that his pace his his number one Front Row L to R: Zachary Bartholomew, Liam Triantafyllou, asset and used it to his advantage by tearing up the line each and every game. George S got promoted to centre Chris Bouziotis, George Skouras, George Contantinidis midfield and never looked back. More like the brains of our team with his vision and passing shining each and every game. Lucas, a leader at school and in the team, led the team in attack and defence and put in 100% in every game. Liam was one of the reasons why we didn’t concede many goals this year, I don’t recall a striker getting around him to finish this year. Zach joined us this year and we were lucky to have him. His effort and talent was on show each and every week. Vuk joined us this year and finished off the team. He added a caring nature but a willingness to win which lifted our team. And finally Chris , yes my son, doesn’t want any credit but is a leader on the field and was a column in defence playing each and every week with no fuss. Finally I would like to thank the following players from the U11Cs and 12Es as without them we couldn’t have achieved what we did: Marcus, Adam, Noah, Issac, Lucas, Aniken, Kalan and Jordan. You were all members of our squad and we want to thank your coaches and parents for allowing you to assist us this year. We are looking forward to next year and hope that we can stick together to give the 13’s a real crack!

TEAM REPORTS Juniors Despite the well-known disruption to the start of the 2020 soccer season, the boys of the Under12Es took it all in their stride! It was an unusual start to training given the requirement to ‘socially distance’ when all the boys wanted to do was get right down to it and practice their tackling skills and game play, but we managed to stick to the rules and prepare the boys for their first foray on the ‘big’ field and teach them all the rules that come with it e.g. offside. They were in great hands with coach Andrew Crane at the helm – even I learned a lot sitting on the sidelines at every training session and game. It makes such a difference when the kids have a supportive and knowledgeable coach. Right up until the third to last game, the U12Es were the only undefeated team in the competition and their first loss was a closely fought 1-0 against their league champions. The boys ended the season second on the ladder having lost only one game. Each week the boys played their best and always cracked a smile and joke or two on and off the field. I hope the boys manage to stay together as a team next year as they gelled so well. We were also fortunate that a few of the boys were able to play 2 games most weeks assisting the U12Cs who were down players most weeks. Playing with a higher graded team certainly helped the skills of those Back Row L to R: Kim Kemp (Manager), Adam Kemp, Billy Katsinas, players jump leaps and bounds. A brief mention about all the players: Adam: The Kalan Comb, Connor Masters, Marcus Hall, Andrew Crane (Caoch) ‘Captain’ of the defenders. Had a great season Front Row L to R: Zackary Crane, Blake Peterson, Jordan Saba, Kynan Griggs, Lucas Smith, Isaac Law, playing with gusto each week. Fortunate enough to Absent : Theodore Karavias play a few games for the U12Cs mostly in mid and striker positions which he thoroughly enjoyed. Billy: Playing striker and mid field positions early on with his big boot and great throws he was unlucky not to have scored more goals. Later in the season he covered for Adam in defence too. Blake: A great asset to the team across the park as he would cover when others grew weary - very handy and quick on his feet – always where he needed to be. Connor: A great Goal keeper putting his body on the line a few times. Also very handy in mid field where his big boot was a great asset and extremely enthusiastic up front. Isaac: Our passionate ever ready man - especially quick on his feet as he approaches the goals to score. Unwilling to be substituted until finishing his hat-trick. Another asset to the club playing a few games for the U12Cs. Jordan: Consistently superior ball skills he provided a lot of spark in the mid field and up front. Loves his football and it shows. Kalan: Spent most of the year up front, with progressive effectiveness. Had his best match of the season in our top of the table thriller – lifting when it mattered. Unlucky not to finish up with more goals. Kynan: Showed increasing maturity and confidence in defence as the season progressed. Timing and power lifted as well. Lovely to watch players making their positions their own. Lucas: Always seemed to be in the right place at the right time each week and did not stop running! Was great to see him back on the field after having the previous year off. Marcus: Played his heart out each and every game both in goals and throughout the mid field. Marcus played a few games for the U12Cs and his goal keeping skills improved markedly over the season. Theodore: From the first week he was our ever dependable left back who owned his position week in and out. Especially valuable during those stressful times with the ball close to goals. Lovely watching his occasional exploratory runs up the sidelines finishing with a pass to the forwards. Zackary: A great team member playing passionately and with enthusiasm in his defensive mid field – filling the hole. A big thanks to coach Andrew, who I hope is available to coach again next year as the improvement in each of the boys was obvious to see. A big thanks also to the fantastic parents who made sure the boys were on time for training and games and were always enthusiastically cheering the boys on from the sidelines. I hope to see you all in and around the soccer fields in 2021!

SYLVANIA HEIGHTS FOOTBALL CLUB 2020 YEARBOOK

Well, where to start….this year was certainly like no other. Initially in early February we were presented with the situation of likely not having enough players to field a team in W12s. A few players had moved on from last year and we were considering recruiting girls from other Sylvania teams who could potentially join our exceptional side of female players. We were very lucky to welcome Santina to the side during the grading process. Tables turned after grading weeks and we welcomed Imogen and Zara who complimented our final 13. Both girls are marvelous assets to the team. Then of course COVID struck two weeks into our pre-season training. What a disruptor! Two months delay to season start with social distancing rules at training and limited numbers of players per week which required a training roster just to get the season to a start, all placed an ever greater challenge. Eventually come July we are all back on the field for Round 1. Limited training as a newly formed team and approaching the large competition field did not phase this amazing team at all. Round after round they remained undefeated up until their first loss to Lilli Pilli 1 on Round 7. It was a wake up call, the girls were not on their game that day and suddenly realized they needed to step it up a notch if there was going to be any hope of securing a

Minor Premiership for their first year of competition. The following few rounds saw them come away with some super score lines of 8-0 and 7-1 against the opposition. Closing in towards the end of the season, it was apparent on the leader board that we were neck and neck with Engadine Eagles however we had a slight advantage on Goal Difference. It would all come down to the final round of the season where we were drawn to play Engadine Eagles in a decider match for the Minor Premiership. We could afford a draw, Engadine needed the win. We are very proud in the way the girls took the field, all hands on deck, totally focused on the task at hand. We happened to be down to 10 players this day, borrowed Bella Spink from W11A who was a force in our defence line, and had no subs with crazy wind gusts just to top it off. With all odds against us from the beginning, the girls were on fire and there was no stopping them to receive their first Minor Premiership for their first year of competition. A special mention to the goal scorer who secured the win for the team, Gabriela Waechter. Congratulations to all of the girls. We couldn’t be prouder of all that you have achieved in 2020.Sienna Cummings (16) – An important mid-fielder who is not afraid to come up against the opposition when it matters.Sienna has learnt to work closely with our strikers for an optimum result. Picture by Jason McGregor Stephanie Whetters (6) – Found her calling this year on the wing and winning some amazing tackles. Steph has worked hard this year in learning to drive the ball up field and placing the ball where it matters for the strikers. Lacey Galas (10) – Our most valuable defender on the team, she was awarded with Most Improved for 2020. Lacey’s determination is a true asset to her success on the field and she leads the team from the back. Congratulations Lacey! Evie Charles (12) – Evie proved this year that she is a total all-rounder. Traditionally our full back, she opted to try out the forwards and also put her hand up as part time Goalie. She was awarded Coaches Award for 2020 as her focus and dedication to the game is second to none. Kenedee Goodwin (11) – Kenedee has improved immensely this year and her confidence in front of goals is developing. She is very quick to attack and then finds the gap to ultimately work closely with her striking partner up front. Some great goal set ups from Kenedee this year. Remy Harmer (17) – Remy has been an integral part of our mid field team this year. She has learnt to work closely with the striking team and has been instrumental is setting up some key goals for our strikers as well as scoring some amazing goals herself. Makayla Vakautu (21) – Makayla’s development this year has been amazing to watch. She is an all-rounder, assisting in the defence line, running up the mid as well as spending some time on the wing. Some beautiful tackles against the opposition and great goal setting techniques has been her strength this year. Nikita Byrnes (18) – Nikita has been with the team since day one. She is a true achiever in the back line. Loves her traditional left back position and acts as a wall for our goalies. It has been very pleasing to see our defence team grow and evolve. Well done Nikita. Santina Gella (27) – Santina has had a wonderful season. She was a seasoned big field player after joining us from the W12s of 2019. Her persistence in the mid-field is impeccable. Picture by Helen Plakias She is our quiet achiever who has the ‘never give up’ attitude. Super effort in our decider match where her courage was enormous. Bronte Snoxall (24) – Bronte has developed her soccer this year to become one of our striking team. Working closely with her striking partners, she has scored some amazing goals. Riddled with foot issues towards the end of season we wish you a quick recovery ready to come back for next year. Gabriela Waechter (14) – Gabi’s season was a slow start after an injury to her finger forced her off the field for the first few rounds. Once given the all clear, she took up her favourite mid-field position. Her outstanding kick allowed her to take corners for the team and score. Lisa Bacon Manager

Fernando Waechter Coach

Amidst the drama and disruption of 2020, the boys had another great year developing as a team. Club grading saw the introduction of Greg (return to SHFC) and Benji (promoted from B’s) provide a great injection of skilled talent to our line-up. However, reduced age group numbers resulted in a starting squad of only thirteen, and no full time goalkeeper. This resulted in Saxon wearing the gloves for half of the games played, and nearly all others obliging for at least half of a game each. Contrary to initial protest most weeks, everyone displayed great capability in the goalkeeping role, with Saxon widely regarded as the competition-wide standout. Our reduced team numbers made injury management more difficult, but provided for stability in field positions and player awareness. Greater confidence in our off-the-ball support offered some really dynamic concepts to our game. The left side of Matt, Ben, (Saxon when on the field,) and Blake leveraging off Dan in the middle for continued entertaining soccer, bordering on shenanigans. Combination plays between Dylan, Riley, Ted & Taurus started to consistently open doors down the right hand side. Increased overlapping runs up the sideline by Matt & Benji from the outside backs, later started to expand into both diagonal and lateral plays from both flanks. Control of the game then allowed Callum and Josh to push forward from rear command into key pivotal distribution roles in attack, typically resulting in 10 active players inside the attacking half (and Saxon often in the centre circle with the goalie gloves on!). Only just beaten by Blake for the Golden Boot, Greg played an excellent first season with us at “false-9”, delivering a heap of goal-assists to those beside and behind him. Taurus matched Greg for goal count, illustrating our strength across the front line. The depth of goal scoring was such, that 10 of the 13 players scored goals throughout the season, including

TEAM REPORTS Juniors Ted’s hat-trick in the demolition of his old club Gymea; and repeated free-kick goals throughout the season by Blake from 25 metres out, or more. More importantly, was our unsung ability to scramble in defence, having the best back line in the competition and the immediate support of the midfielders and forwards on hand. (“All up together - all back together” philosophy in practice). The only teams we couldn’t beat this season were our longtime rivals Lilli Pilli and Marton (2019 State Cup grand finalists), but the boys gave both teams a genuine scare this season, displaying a real performance improvement as against their competition, and re-stamping Sylvania’s claim as worthy contenders into the future. Along with team stability, we need to build speed, consistency, and game concentration for 60 minutes. Achieving this will render this team seriously competitive against any team, anywhere. Socially, the boys grew enormously this season, with the “social core” expanding greatly in both number and commitment. Hopefully, this is the progression of a “team for life”. Development of maturity and leadership from Dylan, Taurus and Saxon on & off the field was brilliant to both witness and be assisted with as coach. Quiet counsel from the likes of Matt, Dan and Josh was also critical in balancing the whole-of-group dynamic and game strategy. Standouts for the year (-amongst a group of equals-) were Ben (“players’ player”) no doubt for his untiring commitment, physical presence and dominance with the ball; Taurus (“most improved”) for his incredible commitment & discipline to striving for the best at everything he does; and Saxon (“Coaches player”) for sacrificial goalkeeping duty (-which he quietly loves!-) and beginning to assume a true leadership role within the team dynamic, whilst carrying the significant handicap of father as coach. Thanks go to the active and liberal support of the Club (-which doesn’t happen everywhere), and to the team parents. Special thanks to Matt Hughes for back-up coaching and team counsel support; but greatest thanks to team manager Kelly Manna for the extraordinary level of commitment and counsel provided to me & the team, for these kids.

Stephen Webster Coach Lets not forget coach Steve. Many thanks and much appreciation goes to Steve for the years, dedication and commitment that he has put into this team. The kids and the parents commend him for the time that he volunteers to a team that we all know he loves. Even when times can be challenging with the boys growth and development, Steve still goes above and beyond to work with each and every kid in the team to develop their strengths and strengthen their weaknesses. His devotion and undeniable passion is second to none and we look forward to many more years together with this team. Kelly Manna Manager

The U13B team embraced the principle that no individual is more important than the team and we built a culture around this. Each player worked to improve his skills for the benefit of the team. Each player did his job so that others could do theirs. And each player’s talents were used in positions that would best help the team. This is a team that I am proud to support and belong to. The broader leadership team (i.e. the parents) helped to build this fantastic team with undying support and optimism! And didn’t we all live for Saturday football to see what our boys could achieve. Some of our highlights included the 5-1 thumping we inflicted on Como Jannali. And remember the time we leveled the score against the top team from a fantastic corner using skills learnt and practiced at training 2 weeks earlier…so proud! We even celebrated the 2-2 draw against North Sutherland like it was a victory because North Sutherland beat us 9-1 in the first round before we had a chance to become the exceptional team that we were destined to be. Our final game was a 1-1 draw against Lilli Pilli, which again was in stark contrast to the 4-1 loss we suffered against them in the second round. We improved more than any other team in this division. Back Row L to R: Nikita Stratikopoulos, Fotis Tzelvelis, Riley Phillips, Our rocky start to the season meant that the Tom Humphreys, Christian Lenertz, Kristen McParland (Manager) Matilda McParland (Coach) results table did not reflect our talent, so going into matches we were often underestimated, and Front Row L to R: Kenan Huseyin, Ian Liang, Nathan Hunter, William Luhur, Henry Daniel, as the season went on it was fun to watch some Winton McParland, Samuel Andrade Absent: Isaac Lin of the top teams, mouths agape, scrambling to change players and tactics in the first quarter against us. By the end of the season all opponents knew that they had to bring their A game to our games. Samuel Andrade: Sam scored a remarkable hat-trick this season and would rarely let us down if given a chance in front of the goal. He was already a good player at the start of the season, but so often good players simply continue to rely on their natural talent and never progress. This was not the case for Sam, he worked hard this season, listened to advice and his game went from being great to exceptional! A well-deserved “Most Improved Award”. Riley Phillips: A fantastic player with many talents who is also liked by his team-mates. Riley set an example by being committed to every game and by being extremely competitive. He would do anything to stop an attacker getting face to face with our goalkeeper. No surprises that Riley was voted “Players’ Player” by his team-mates. Nathan Hunter: Nathan is an effective footballer who is able to play anywhere he is needed. Nathan’s spectacular talent in goals was always on display, but he is also versatile and willing to go anywhere he is needed. Nathan received the “Coaches Award” because he is a valuable member of the team and he epitomised the core value of the team in that he always put the team before himself and that is something that should be rewarded. Henry Daniel: Henry is the x-factor in the team. Henry is strong and fast and is an unstoppable force breaking through the defensive line. Henry’s enthusiasm and energy during games and training lifted the whole team. Henry had an instant impact on the success of the team when he joined mid-season. Tom Humphreys: Tom is great under pressure and can cross the ball with pin-point accuracy. It is not easy to continuously switch between defensive and offensive roles throughout a game, but Tom did a first-class job providing support for the forwards and then switching to a defensive

mindset with great tackling skills and an ability to shut down attacks. Kenan Huseyin: You have to have belief in yourself to be an effective striker and Kenan has that in spades. This confidence is a quality that can’t be taught. The team worked hard to create the opportunities up front and Kenan was able to capitalise on many of these opportunities. It is always a joy to watch a player with expert ball control and confidence. Christian Lenertz: Christian naturally fell into the role of team captain. He is one of the smartest players on the field. Christian always made good decisions for the team. He is valuable in goals but also proved his worth up front and showed that he has some untapped talent as a midfielder. Ian Liang: Ian showed a lot of commitment to the team. He once travelled from his school soccer game, changed into his uniform on the side-line to run on for the final 5 minutes. Ian clearly loves the game and this team. Ian showed improvement in his game which was particularly evident when playing midfield in our final clash against Lilli Pilli where he sent a lofted through ball to the forwards creating a goal-scoring opportunity! Isaac Lin: Everything seemed to come together for Isaac this season. Ball control, reading the game and defending really improved over the season. Isaac is an experienced player who honed his skills to find a way to play forward with defense-splitting through balls. William Luhur: Bill plays left back because of his outstanding speed and fitness. Attacking players couldn’t outrun him. He was responsible for saving numerous attacking plays and could be relied on to send the ball back up the line with skill and precision. Winton McParland: Winton is a classic number 10 –the creator, the assistant and the scorer! He can read the game and is exceptional a creating plays for the forwards. He has leadership qualities because he is willing to shoulder the responsibility of a penalty kick, puts the team before himself and is willing to help others shine for the benefit of the team. Picture by Wendy Adams Nikos Stratikopoulos: Nikos is the all-round star of the team. Nikos is famous for putting his body on the line risking injury every game. When his coach tried to pull him off after a hard ball to the guts or worse he would simply get to his feet and give the thumbs up to show that he was good to fight on. Nikos is the bravest member of the team. Fotis Tzelvelis: Fotis is an intimidating figure in defence. Fotis understood his job and executed it week in and week out. Sometimes he would act as a sweeper being the last line in our defence. He showed a lot of natural talent in this position. Fotis is a respected and valuable member of the team. Thanks to Matilda McParland who gave up time out of her very busy schedule playing representative football for the Sutherland Shire Football Association. She brought a wealth of knowledge to the team having been coached by some of the best herself. Her calm, thoughtful and competitive approach had spectacular results. Being able to stand beside her at games and training has been a highlight of my parenting career. We had a fantastic season. Cheers, to the beautiful game! Kristen McParland Manager

What an extraordinary year we have all had thank goodness we had soccer. Thank you to all the girls for their enthusiasm, perseverance and energetic spirit. You should all be very proud of yourselves and what you have achieved this season. You have given us some awesome football games to watch and enjoy. Your spirit as a team is undeniable. The girls have definitely grown individually and as a team, they are a lot stronger, faster and fitter this year. Their ball skills and passing have improved immensely. They worked hard as a team and achieved some great results. Well done girls. We are all very proud of you. Thank you to all the mums and dads who took the time to run the girls around the Shire to their games and training. We welcomed two new players to the team this year Stephanie and Kathleen. Kathleen is a little pocket rocket and scored a few goals for the team. Stephanie is not scared to get her body behind the ball. Our team has gone from strength to strength. Our formidable defenders Jess, Mya, Jules and Mia were strong every game, proving difficult to get through. They provided great support for Maddy our champion goal keeper. Maddy displayed some of her great soccer skills on the field this year also. Our mighty mid fielders Sophie, Mikky, Vic and Kathleen ran their ‘guts out’ game after game, their fitness and skills continued to improve throughout the year. Our fabulous forwards Alexis, Stephanie, Zoe, Charlize and Sami all scored goals this year and continued to improve week after week. It was a champion effort all round this year. TEAM REPORTS Juniors This season we had many girls return to play again for the trees and some new players join the team. With 16 players it was a big squad. The team was dedicated to training and would play against the boys U12A team frequently, while the speed of the boys showed, each week the girls improved their team work. This training helped the girls in our competition games. When the girls ran with the ball, passed wide and moved forward together they were impressive and great to watch. There were two teams in our draw that were very strong and we challenged them both, by getting a draw against each and even close to taking the wins. When we played the other teams, our girls often dominated and on review our main issue (like most teams) was a struggle to frequently find the back of the net.We ended the year in the top four on the competition table and if it was a normal season, our girls would be playing finals football where anything could happen. Mikaela, Chelsea, Felicity, Bronte, Eilise and Eliana were our midfield maestros and would move the ball around well, provide attacking plays and help our defenders. Kyra, Zara, Sam, Eva and Tayla were our super defenders and did well keeping the ball away from our team’s goal, getting up to half way, thus winning many offsides for us all year Millie, Mia and Amy were our super strikers, looking to create chances and score goals.Steph did an amazing job as GK and when she played on the field was always tenacious.Tully (in her first ever year of soccer) was so impressive. listening, learning and certainly a good GK in the making.Special thanks to all our parents, grandparents and families who supported the girls throughout the season getting them to training and games. We are so very proud of every player and how much they have improved over the season. Well done to our award winners: Felicity - Coaches Award, Kyra, - most improved and Eliana - players player.

SYLVANIA HEIGHTS FOOTBALL CLUB 2020 YEARBOOK

It was a pretty tough year for the U14Bs right from the start. Along with all the COVID related dramas we had no coach and injured players to contend with. Bushy gave the boys a bit of a foundation, and then we were lucky that Fernando stepped up (not an easy task as he was already coaching another team). The team changed by around 50% from last year (Oliver back, Alexander & Mathew up from U14D, and Peter, Gabriel and Jasper new to the Club). It was difficult getting a settled line up with Taj, Jasper and Scott missing big chunks of the season. Regardless, we were competitive in most games, and our best soccer was great to watch. Some comments about the boys: Alexander – grew in confidence as the year went on, mainly midfield and helping in defence Elias – very reliable defender, another really consistent year down back Gabriel– our keeper (from Georges River), great first year, some amazing penalty saves Jared – revelation as a striker, used his pace to set up and score a few goals throughout the year Jasper – late start to the season but very organised in defence when he got onto the field. Lucas – energetic in midfield and set up a lot of scoring opportunities. Mathew – great attack on the ball (our only yellow card all year!) and ran hard in the midfield.

Pictures by Wendy Adams Max – enjoyed the freedom of playing up the field, very strong in defence. Oliver – slotted straight back in to the team and showed his experience in defence Peter – formed a good striking pair with Jared, never stopped running and scored a few goals. Rhys – spent a lot of time in the midfield, and helped link up from defence. Scott – missed a few games due to injury, was effective in defence when he was up and running. Taj – gave the team a huge boost when he came back from injury, very creative and skillful in the midfield. Despite our lowish ladder position we were never easy to beat, sometimes small lapses in concentration cost us. It is no coincidence that in the weeks that we trained well and warmed up properly - we played well. Hoping that everyone is back next year – with a more appropriate grading, and better luck with injuries, we could look forward to a successful year. Thanks again to Fernando for passing on his knowledge and passion to the team, hopefully the boys took some of it on board. Looking forward to Season 2021. Fernando Waechter Coach

Boys the season has finished, and you can all hold your heads up for your constant commitment and team skills learning. Well done to our Defensive Module for consistency. Joshua R with many excellent saves in goal with Jacob P a great job managing the defensive unit and stopping many attacks. Matthew A, Mohammed A and Timothy J were our additional stopping power. Thomas B and Max P our midfield attacking module scored and caused much chaos upon the teams that we played supported by Harrison B and Steven V. Our upfront attacking group Angus C, Christopher V, Ronan D worked really hard and improved every week. Keep up the off season skills development training ( not to many Macca’s meals guys ) for next season.

Sylvania’s U16A team (like all teams in this age group), find themselves beginning the transition from junior football to senior football. We started the year by welcoming 3 new members to the SHFC family – Jaydin, Matthew and Liam, who have been tremendous recruits for our club and I hope they find a happy footballing home at Box Road for many years to come.

U16A

Picture by Wendy Adams A team overflowing with natural ability, season 2020 presented a great opportunity for the U16A’s to start engaging that part of the body rarely used by teenage footballers – their brain. We spent many weeks discussing our individual strengths and talents before deciding on the formation that would best suit our playing group. The boys set a number of season goals this year. Some around ladder position, goals scored, and win/loss ratios. Others around the style of football we wanted to play and our on-field / off-field conduct. But perhaps most importantly, the boys have made a commitment to each other to create a solid playing group – one which will carry them into their senior football years at SHFC. It was very pleasing to see the boys putting thought into their game this year. Each training session began with a reflection on the weekend’s game where we would identify the positives and negatives and discuss how we could improve and overcome our challenges. What resulted was noticeable and steady improvement (albeit from a slow start). We showed tenacity in defence, composure in the midfield and patience in attack with many top-shelf finishes rattling the net. The teamwork displayed by Sylvania U16A’s was the envy of our opponents and whilst we may have missed that top 4 finish by the narrowest of margins, the style of football they have developed will hold them in good stead

for the future. A special thanks to 35 year playing veteran, Brad for keeping us so well organised, for helping run the training sessions, and for letting me pick his experienced soccer brain. Compliments to Oliver Hughes – a logical choice for captain. Unanimously selected by his peers, Oliver plays well above his weight, shows great leadership and is never short for ideas about how a football game might be won. There were some outstanding on-field moments this year. The character shown to overcome adversity in your games against St Pats games was certainly a season highlight – as were your efforts against competition heavyweights Engadine and Gymea both of which you pushed to their absolute limit. However, most satisfying from a coaches perspective was seeing you form strong bonds with each other, both on and off the field. As someone who cherishes my younger years at SHFC and the life-long friendships I’ve made through playing football at SHFC, this makes me extremely proud to be your coach and I’m very excited to see what you can achieve next year, and beyond. What a year!!!! This year has been like no other in so many ways on and off the field. We would want to start by thanking the tireless efforts of the committee at the Club who worked with the SSFA to ensure the wide range of COVID safety plans and procedures were implemented each week to get the season going. The lads and parents are extremely thankful for all the unseen and seen hours that enabled them to enjoy themselves playing Football with their friends. Also, thank you to our long standing fans who have supported us in a socially distant way this year. There is nothing like the cheers and encouragement you bring to the team each game - thank you. Thank you also to Wendy for the amazing photos she takes of the team and shares each week. It has been terrific having Adam coaching with me this year. I have appreciated the energy and insights you brought to training and the time to chat about life post training in the carpark much appreciated. I want to thank Leisa in particular for the countless hours and phone calls in helping to keep a quality environment going for our boys. We have both always had the same motivation in being in these roles, to help create a community where our sons grow and develop alongside other quality young men and their families, and also have

opportunities to throw in some life advice around character, work ethic, teamwork and friendship. On the back of winning the 2019 U15C GF, the Premiers were promoted to the U16B's this season. Leisa had done another brilliant job in recruitment, signing 4 news stars to the team. As we set off in late January to prepare for the season I would not have thought we would have been undefeated until mid July I would have been thrilled, but we were. 1 from 1!!! What stands out for me when I look back on our season? There will be so many great memories I take away from the 2020 season. Obviously there was a new fashionable COVID cut, and Vincent took the prize for this. Josh Ryan stepped into a role as an assistant coach, showing such commitment and knowledge about how to get the best out of our team. Seeing the awkward way some of the lads were welcomed into the team, learning new names and then doing it all again after the COVID break, was it Riley or Ray..... John scored the 1st goal of the season, chipping the keeper from 35m for the win v Como. Soccer handball at training for the banter and flukey skills on display. The safe clearances from Captain Josh at the back, cleaning up any messes and clearing the ball (and losing the ball) out of the park on at least 6 occasions. Eli making a new friend from Miranda. New goalie Lachlan's penalty to go to equal leading goal scorer mid season #KFC. Playing 4v4 games at training - a particular fav was teaming up with Jesse, and father son combo Adam and Ayden, #specialmoments #thatswhywedothis. Our win against Bosco 3-2, after getting a Rd 1, 7-0 hammering from them, it felt like a GF victory - the fans loved it. Having a chocolate sundae on the way home from a game with Jesse and his Pop debriefing the game. I hope that you too take away some great memories from the 2020. Thanks for playing your part in helping the team have a great season. As one young wise man said this year "it's not just about the winning or losing, but about the friends we make along the way" Sage advice. We have been together as a community for many years, at least 5 of you were Possums in the U9H's and many great new friendships have been made along the way. I particularly enjoyed the discussions this year around part time jobs, subject selections and hearing about practice driving hours. I know the parents are extremely proud of the young men you are becoming, as am I as your coach. Character matters. Follow your goals with passion and commitment. Look after your friendships in the offseason, and I hope to see you in 2021 with a fresh cut. 16B1 Captain - Josh TS Most Improved - John Troy Dixon Coach

TEAM REPORTS Intermediate Continuing on from a great 2019, we had all players except one return this year ready for the challenge of moving up to B grade. And a challenge it was – after a relatively easy opening game the team was brought down to earth when faced with some of the better B grade sides. The boys never backed down though, and in most games finished better than they started, even when behind on the scoreboard. Putting in some of their more impressive performances toward the end of the season, they managed to seriously challenge the eventual competition winners and had a season best game when knocking over a cocky Miranda outfit, reversing a 0-4 drubbing from the first time we played them. Given a few more weeks, I believe more upsets would have been on the cards. Eventually finishing in 5th place was a great result for a first time effort in B grade. Our core defensive unit of Adam, Alex, Callum and John (most improved), were tireless and dogged against some very skillful opposition strikers. Even when we lost, they never gave up and prevented those losses from blowing out. Strikers Cooper (Coach’s player of the year) and James did not have a lot of chances this year but made the most of those that they were given. Their mullet haircuts alone always gave the opposition pause (probably to laugh). Back Row L to R: Greg Hanson (Manager), Sonny Hanson, Adam Kontogiannis, The remainder of the team rotated through a Lucaz Giordano, Glenn De Santis (Coach) variety of positions around Jordan J at centre mid. Showing his passion for the game by Middle Row L to R: Jensen Rigby, Callum Stanger, Jordan Stavropoulos, Alex Scott, Jordan James, playing through chronic injury for most of the Front Row L to R: Dane Penhall, James De Santis, Bailey Arthur, John Farley, Cooper Williamson, Luke Zeng season, Jordan was a deserved back to back winner of the Players’ player of the year award. Lucaz and Luke were a threat from virtually anywhere in the opposition’s half, with Luke bagging the goal of the season off a free kick against St. Pats (that unfortunately the coach missed). Bailey, Sonny, Jensen and Captain Dane were always busy and worked hard without complaint (mostly) no matter where they played. A special thank you to our only “new” player this year – keeper Jordan S. A very welcome addition who slotted in as if he’d been playing with us forever, Stav made some heart stopping saves and it was great to have a dedicated keeper at last. One of the few highlights in a crazy year was the fact that we eventually managed to get out onto the field to play soccer, and thanks to the committee, players, parents and everyone else who helped that to happen. Thanks Picture by Glenn De Santis Picture by Helen Plakias also as always to our manager Greg Hanson for keeping us organised.

Despite the disruptions we all experienced this year, our boys really grew as a team and as individual players in Season 2020. Stepping up a grade, we posted some solid early wins, demonstrating we could compete strongly at the next level. We stayed in touch with the ladder throughout most of the season with matches being hard fought each week in what was a very tight competition. Every player committed to their fitness at training and developing new skills. Many of the boys were asked to have a go at playing in new positions for the first time this year which stretched them as individuals and strengthened our playing unit, giving us the flexibility we needed to perform as a team. The victories came when our boys focused on moving the ball around as a team and working hard off the ball to support one another. The goals were hard to come by some weeks as we faced higher quality defence lines which meant we needed to do more to get through. Our team culture thrived once again with 15 young men playing for each other

with a "Team First" mindset each and every week. We turned up to win and contested every moment out on the park while maintaining outstanding sportsmanship in every game. This made the U16C1's a pleasure to watch (and to coach!) and I know all the parents are very proud of the way the boys conduct themselves when representing the Club .

Well season 2020 will go down in history like no others and we'll all look back many years from now and say WOW, and we had another wow moment. That being 13 of the 14 players were new to the club including myself as coach. We started our season with a 2- 2 draw against the eventual Premiers North Sutherland and throughout the season we had some good wins, narrow loses and a few best forgotten. (ha ha). Firstly, a big thanks to Jackson and Max who put their hands up to share the Goal Keeping duties and both performed really well. Our defensive unit of Jake, Josh, Eli and Aiden challenged the opposition's best attacking players every game and most weeks came out on top Our mid field of Elijah, Nick H, Daniel, Nick K and Ben all wowed us with their ball skills and all scored goals. Each week as our combinations improved, they all got better and better. Joe, was our most versatile player playing midfield, defence and up front where he scored a great goal to give us a win in the last game against Sylvania’s U16C1 team. Joseph and Tim were our Strikers and scored some great goals with many more Back Row L to R: Jackson Davies, Max Havet, Josh Wilson, Mark Warncken (Coach) saved by great goalkeeping. TEAM REPORTS Intermediate W16A

A difficult year for everyone with the disaster at the start of the year and the year from hell with Covid, but we did manage some football.

The disappointing decision made by the SSFA that no finals were to be played meant that our final year in 16’s were just being played for ‘FUN’.

Back Row L to R: Caitlin Gibbs, Sage Matchett, Sophia Morton, Simon Oldroyd (Coach) Middle Row: Grace Oldroyd, Tash Brabant, Jayde Flynn, Niki Szeles, Jordan Hughes, Front Row L to R: Annalese Athanasiou, Jasmine DoCarmo, Caitlin Farr, Hannah Saad, Holly Martin, Demie Hawkes Absent: Shaun Caldwell (Manager) Sophia Caldwell The girls had a great year once again beating all the top 3 teams but unfortunately losing our way with the teams below us, costing us. We struggled with injuries but each of the 14 girls put an effort in week in week, out on game day and training and I really enjoyed the 13 weeks that we did play Bring on 2021 full season, State cup and hopefully finals.

Thanks to the parents once again and to my mate Calds. Oldboy

INTERMEDIATE CLUB CHAMPIONS

What a pleasure it was to coach the U21Cs. With a few weeks out until registrations were due we quickly scraped together a team of boys and finished the season in second place. The boys dug in hard week in week out. Playing some games with 9 or 10 players and still managing to get a few wins under our belt. Best moment of the season was smooth cat (Bayli Catlett) having only play in his first season wanting to get his first goal. The first penalty we had in the season we asked him to walk up to the penalty spot, put the ball down and crack it home for us. He then proceeded to put the ball way wide and had the walk of shame coming back to us only to cop a heap of banter by the boys. Special mention to Matt Stokes who grabbed the player’s player of the year award and Thomas Mifsud who thoroughly deserved the coaches award. Thank you for a great season boy it was a absolute pleasure. Josh McGarry Coach/Manager

PREMIERS AND SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONS

Undefeated AL3

What a year! BACK to BACK to BACK to BACK! After 3 successful campaigns we again prepared to step up and take on another higher grade. We had recruited well in the offseason welcoming Ben, Harro, Duffy, TK, Johnny and Sam G to the team. We started what would become a long pre-season with a trip down the F6 to take on Figtree SC, after an emphatic 7-2 win it had us believing another premiership was on the cards and nothing but global crisis would be able to stop us. We began the season proper, firing on all cylinders and won our first 2 games and by the middle of the season we were sitting equal 1st and all the lads playing well. There were some memorable games played this year with our first big test being played against a young River side which ended 1-1 with both goals coming from a spot kick. Our next big test was against Lilli Pilli 35A which saw us scoring early and playing tough football and were only denied the win with a scrappy goal against in the 89th min.

Late in the season on the back of our superb defence we found ourselves sitting on top of the table 1 point clear of second spot. The team galvanised and focused as we moved into our last 3 matches. We played these games as our finals series knowing only 3 wins would give us the title. We got 3 points from first 2 of 3 games and the stage was set for thriller last game at Cronulla with only 2 points between 1st and 3rd spot. The final game was against a capable Cronulla side and by halftime it was 2-1 in our favour with missed spot kick by Cronulla. We knew there was only 45mins of football left and with the crowd full of supporters and opposition teams watching on we knew what was needed, we kicked into gear and went on with the game 6-1 winners and history was written. A truly tremendous effort for all the lads this season to go through entire season undefeated, never being behind on the score board at any point in any game the entire season and only conceding 9 goals. It gives me a great deal of pride to be associated with a team who play every game of every season with passion, skill and team spirit and manage to keep winning against all odds. All the boys should hold their head high after such a great season. Awards this year went to Ben Wells – Player of the Year, TK – Captains award, Justin Hill – coaches award

Onwards and upwards in 2021 go the trees.

TEAM REPORTS Seniors AL-12

Rollercoaster of a season, many highs and many lows. Obviously glad to be able to play amidst a looming pandemic. We have been plagued by several injuries, due to the lack of full fitness. We started the season on a high, staying in the top two for half the

season then injuries started to creep up with defeats as a result. Our team has one of the best defensive records in our comp, conceding the least goals but our strike force has struggled to capitalize on the opportunities. The team has welcomed James, our new goalkeeper, as well Tom and Sam, who ran the centre of midfield so well. The leadership of Adam, in the centre of defense has been outstanding, leading the team by example. Due to the shortage of players, the remaining players have had to play full games and sometimes play out of position, great effort. A special thank you to the O45s players who have helped us through the season including Sammy, Mark, Ben and Crispen.

2020 saw the O35E’s welcome a host of new players to club. The year started promising and we all bonded well, settling into our new team.

O35E

The trial games went well and it looked like maybe we could challenge for top honours. Covid saw us loose Colin back to QLD and he was our goal scoring striker, what a combo upfront we would have had- it was not to be. During the season we had a heap of laughs, a few beers and even managed some quality football. Unfortunately injuries during the season hit us hard but we soldiered on and finished a respectable 4th. In a normal year, finals would be on the cards and then anything can happen. Highlights this season included Nick bagging 5 in a game, Benny scoring from the corner, Dan wanting to be a keeper then seeing red, big Mick letting it roll right through his legs for the opposition to score and of course playing in the rain at Box Road, where our own hot Rod asking red to be sent off!! All in all it was a successful year and thank you to everyone that made it happen. Go the Trees in 2021. Benny, Mick, Mags...

O45A

Well what can you say about 2020

Many words like Unprecedented , stay at home and alcoholism all heavily used at the O45A’s this year . Unfortunately they were practiced as well. Not a great outcome for our side only losing one game and finishing 3rd but we will be back next year and let’s hope we never see covid again. Thank you and good night . (mike drop)

O45D

At an age where most players might be hanging up their boots, leaving clubs and team mates desperately scrounging around to build teams, Sylvania Heights Football Club goes from strength to strength with its uncanny ability to attract new players, particularly in the senior ranks. We are a glorious mix of several of last years O35E team (including SHFC’s first ever Playing President), a handful of North Sutho Rockets, a few Dad’s of our junior trees, a couple of club stalwarts returning from hiatus and one player with no previous ties to shire soccer, who literally stopped his car on Box Road and approached us, because he felt SHFC was a great place to play soccer – He was right ! As yet another newly formed senior team for SHFC, the Over 45D’s debuted on Box Road and marked their arrival with an emphatic 6 goal win over Como. That result set the tone for the season, and we went on to record 10 wins from our 13 games, playing an impressive style of football and bagging 35 high quality goals, and finishing 3rd overall.

Success will mean different things to different people. Despite the exceptional on-field performances, the superior win/loss ratio and the many incredible goals, it is in our senior years (and through the turmoil of a pandemic)

TEAM REPORTS Seniors that we can appreciate what truly makes a successful season. At our advancing age, to still have the ability and opportunity to play a game we love, at a fantastic club, with a bunch of remarkable blokes, who care only about enjoying their football and the company of their teammates – well that sounds like success in my book. See you at pre-season training boys (maybe). James Shearer Player Coach

W38B

Well an adventurous year for the W38B side. I actually felt we had a stronger team than last year, however we just struggled to get the ball into the net. Defensively we were very sound and only the top couple of teams really put us to the sword. All the other games were generally very close with us losing most of our games by just the 1 goal. For next year we need to concentrate on a few things (looking for a spare player and not panicking in defence or attack). I know that we can improve a lot for next year if we just stick to the simple things. Some new players joined and every one of them was an asset. Emma with her non-stop running, Nikki who is the only slide tackler I have seen in this grade and you could tell had played before and finally Amanda who did what I am always looking for from our forwards in getting the ball to the middle. Special mention to a couple of players who I felt really played well and a couple came very close to being my player of the year. Cam – non stop running and with a bit of luck would have scored a few more goals. Nikki – Can play anywhere (even goals) and doesn’t shy away in any situation. Adrianna – Had a few injuries but we are certainly a better side with her on the field. Susan – Another great year from Susan and plays backs or in the forwards. Went into goals for half a game a was right at home for a first timer. Kath – Her suggestion to move Vanessa to centre late in the year was a spot on and I think we will see a lot more goals next year with her in the middle. Time to get fit Vanessa!!! Leanne – A massive improvement on last year. The coaches award I gave out this year to the a player who always gives her best but more importantly just has a whole lot of fun. Her positive attitude is really appreciated!!! Congratulations Maria Butterfield. Well deserved and we all look forward to playing with you again next year. Finally I would like to thank the following for their help during the year. Our Manager Pam – Always early and makes sure all the admin side is sorted. Our Oranges Lady Cathy – Ever reliable and often did the beer run at half time so we had a refresher after the game. Our Ball Retriever Pete – This guy runs more than the players sometimes as he chases the balls that have gone out. Even scored man of the match one game for his efforts. I really look forward to next year as I think we can go a lot further in the comp. As always, win or lose, it has been a lot of fun.
