Final Project Fall 2023

Renovation and Redesign

26 W Center Street Fayetteville, AR 7270. A place once left empty now transformed into a world of primary color. For this project, we were given the task of taking three buildings on the corner of the Fayetteville square, and transforming them into a gallery. We explored other galleries through precedent analysis. We had the opportunity to also visit the site and other local galleries to gather inspiration. We used our hand drawings skills to sketch and explore, but we also used Rhino, Illustrator, Photoshop, and In Design. This project allowed me to put myself in the shoes of a visitor and wonder how they might explore this space.

This building has the goal of showing how the simplicity of color can transform and enhance the space. The walls are a blank canvas that the art transforms into a bold and colorful one. The blend of clean lines and primary color invites you into the space. Color can tell a story and guide you through each chapter. The focus on red and blue was deliberate as these colors can show the power of color and emotion. Each wall will guide you, as avisitor, through the space. The angles and the colorson the walls are made to be a map. You don’t know what you are going to experience, all you know is you are being drawn in by the color.

Color can tell a story and guide you through each chapter. The focus on red and blue was deliberate as these colors can show the power of color and emotion. These colors can enhance the feeling of the space. Each wall will guide you, as a visitor, through the space. The angles and the colors on the walls are made to be a map. The red and blue edges draw you in and lead you to the next experience. You don’t know what you are going to experience, all you know is you are being drawn in by the color. The spacious white walls are the perfect canvas for contemporary art. Artists such as Bo Bartlett, Mark Bradford, and Patrick Wilson fill the walls of the gallery. The pieces play with color and modern shapes to create a continuous feel as you experience the gallery. As you move through the upper floor there are platforms made to showcase sculptures that play with form and color. The second floor also has the element of natural light. There are strategically placed skylights that enhance each space. The skylight above the stairs showcases the bright red hue. The spaces begin to be engulfed in the red hue as the light hits the surfaces. Overall, this gallery has the goal of taking simple, clean walls and transforming them through color and art.

ROY’S MOTEL AND RESORT

Final Project Spring 2023

In the spring of 2023 we had the opportunity during travel week to visit Amboy, California. Amboy is home to Roy’s Motel. This site is home to the beginnings of the classic Googee architecture movement. As our final project in the spring of 2023, we were given the job of restoring the motel. We needed to preserve the classic elements, yet make it modern and our own. I transformed Roy’s motel and resort into a rejuvenation retreat for current cancer patients. This resort would allow those fighting cancer to receive treatment in a relaxing and new environment. It also allowed those that were nearing the end to receive this treatment in a relaxing and comforting environment. I utilized Rhino, Illustrator, Photshop, and In Design for this project. Overall, the goal was to restore and renew thiS once classic space.

CARDBOARD CHAIR

WHEN:

TYPE: Fall 2022 Group Project/Creative

The cardboard chair, this was a group project in the Fall of 2022. As a group, we needed to take cardboard and turn it inot a functioning chair. The goal was to take a mundane material and transform it into something beautiful and useful. It also me to study the human body and experience and how to utilize that as inspiration in my designs. As a group, we used simple materials such as cardboard, glue, and sandpaper.

ROOM BY ROOM

TYPE: Fall 2023

Creative and Design

For room by room we used hand drawings skills, modeling skills, Rhino, Photoshop, Illustrator, and In Design. This structure allowed us to focus on how color and light can change a space. By using apertures and different spatial configurations, we were able to see how the sun can change throughout the day and how it changes a space. We started with rhino to build the space digitally. After this I was able to explore different models before creating the final model. Creatively, I also got to experiment with painting and matching color swatches. This project allowed us to fully explore many different avenues within the process of design.

Hand Drawn and Model Work

I wanted to also showcase some of my work done by hand. Yes, most of the design world is done digitally, but there is something special about hand drawn work. Drawing and creating by hand is not my strongest WWsection, but I see so much beauty in the simplicity of pencil drawings. We started this journey with hand drawings and physical models, so I thought it was best to finish this portfolio with the aspect that all of this work began with.

PADDERBORN SENIOR LIVING

WHEN:

TYPE: Spring 2024

Creative and Design

For the Padderborn Senior Living complex we focused on creating spaces for individuality, but also space that bring these people together. The “Kornblume” has a library, chapel, and restaurant that proivde spaces that bring the members together. This project utilized digital, schematic, and physical work to portray the design on this space. We started the journey with process work and schematic review. We research Germany and the requirments for a senior living facility. This then led us through the rest of the process and into the final design. Overall, this project because of the 135,000 sq ft pushed us to explor the big and small picture of design.
