The Sale of the Season!

Welcome to the Sale!

Friends and Fellow Cattlemen:

Welcome to the Third Annual Combined Forces Bred Female Sale. This past year has been a fun and challenging year, and it is amazing how fast sale time comes again. It’s never fun planning around mother nature when it comes to clipping and prep on the cattle and especially hoping the sun shines when you put them in the picture pen. It does pose a bit of a challenge when we as breeders are located in different states trying to coordinate everything that goes into the sale prep, but it makes it all worth it when we get the catalog finished and anticipate the day we bring them all together. The Combined Forces Breeders truly appreciate and want to thank the customers we have had in the past and look forward to developing new relationships in the future. This set of cattle for our third Combined Forces Sale is what we believe to be our best set yet. The bred heifers are, as always, sired by some of the best genetics in the game. We as breeders have tried to diversify a little and add some color and more percentage papered females to the offering while still maintaining that maternal look we all appreciate. We believe this set of breds to be the deepest set we have sold. The cow division is one we have ramped up from years past. The set of cows we are selling is a cut right from the middle of our herds. There are some young future donors and some young, proven cows that have already worked for us. This year, we added some pregnant recips carrying some of our best genetics. This is a division that we hope to expand in the future, and we assure you we are selling some of our best. The work behind the scenes that it takes to put the sale together is sure in need of recognition. The farm help and picture help are a huge part of the success of this sale, along with the late nights and time on the phone organizing. All the breeders of The Combined Forces would like to thank our families and farm help for the time and understanding and their support.

We would especially like to thank you, our customers, for the interest in our programs. We hope to see you in Dunlap on January 27th, and we guarantee that if you make the trip, we have something to fit your program!

When you come to Dunlap, you’ll see that we brought the best ones to town, and this one could be at the top of my list. I have always believed the great ones hit you right away. This one took like three minutes in the picture pen and we had 15 pictures to pick from. When you got it, you got it, and this Whiskey x Katy has it!

This Chopper x Whiskey female is a full sibling to the mother of one of the most famous steers of 2017! She is a full sibling to BBR Angel, the $45,000 high selling female in the fall 2013 Blind Badger Ranch Sale. She is the mother of the Line steer that was named champion steer numerous times in 2017. That steer was one of the more unique built show steers of the year and had traits that are extremely difficult to put together in one package.

The Lot 3 female is a powerful individual with a big, swoopy belly and as square as you can make one along with being sound and functional. She carries herself with the look and balance of a show calf with a neck similar to a giraffe! If you are looking for a donor prospect to make super sexy, high value offspring, don’t miss the opportunity to own this female.

Just look at what the dam of Lot 6 on the next page is.

630 is out of 1/915, a phenomenal Northern Improvement x Irish Whiskey/Chill Factor donor cow I bought with Jensen as one of my top picks out of the Reimann dispersal. Her first ET crop of Huff n Puff and Monopoly steers averaged over $9,000 per head. She has the genotype and the phenotype to get it done. • Seller reserves the right to two successful flushes at our expense and the buyer’s convenience.

As you will see in this catalog, when RSVP is in the pedigree, good things happen. This one is good. Her mother is good. Maternal Mades are good.

Please think twice when you study this one. Her actual birth date was 5/18/16, so she gives up some maturity. We kept a later born spittin’ image full sister last year that was due to calve too late to put on the sale. She has become our best 2016 model on the place. Good looks and good movement grow into good things. She is safe to our Money Makin Express 508 son from Schelske Angus. That is a good thing. We kept every heifer sired by him for next year. They are stout, good looking, big bodied Angus cattle with performance. If this year’s crop gets the same results, we will collect semen on him. Don’t miss out on this one.

Lot 11 is not the most photogenic, but she is the most unique Maternal Made and might be my personal favorite. Please look her up sale day and take a look at her leg hair. It’s unreal. Maternal Made is the only bull I’ve ever seen that you can use on such a wide variety of types and breeds of cattle, and yet he will still amplify their good features and help their bad features at an unprecedented consistency rate. The dam, 318, sold a good No Worries as Lot 103 last year. The grandam here is 89X. 89X raised Lot 37 in this sale and has raised a third overall steer at the Minnesota State Fair; her first natural and ET calves averaged $12,000 with a high of $22,500 and many more good ones since. If you want success, pay just as much attention to the pedigree profile as you do to the side profile.

The last Maternal Made in this catalog is just as good as the first. There is a type and kind for everybody. 5106 is a fall 2015 heifer that we rolled to spring, as we do all our fall heifers. She is a stout, broody ground shaker. Her dam, 6/746, is a Final Answer that I bought off the Boneso dispersal that originated from Reimanns off one of the first First Class Female sales. I kicked myself for not buying her the first time around and was lucky enough to get a second chance. She also raised an I-80 son that is our best herd bull…you will see daughters of him in future sales. She has a bad eye from an injury as a calf but will be able to lick her calf off just fine. Another Maternal Made with serious donor potential.

Irish Whiskeys are going to get harder and harder to come by. They still kick out high selling champion steers and heifers at as high a rate as anything. In our commitment to growing this to be the best sale in the country, we sweetened the pot and brought some Whiskey. You will like 631 in the pen and you will like her genetic backing. She is the result of an embryo mating out of X13, who is a Dubai daughter that raised a $27,000 Heat Wave steer that was third overall at Denver as a prospect as well as many replacements before we made her a donor. Look at this powerful, colored, TH free cash machine. We sold a maternal sib by Unstoppable on the 2016 Combined Forces Sale that paid her way in one calf already. Last year, I sold choice of identical twins out of M24 by Lone Ranger. Ask Brock Woodin what he thinks of the one I kept. Every time we see her in the pasture, she makes us stop what we are doing. I would highly recommend anything out of the M24 donor. She has grossed in excess of $350,000 in calf sales with countless winners. The full sib Huff N Puff steer and heifer calves we have sold have averaged around $10,000. She milks like crazy and the daughters I have do too. A maternal sib, Lot 42, is a feature lot as well, and they sell with high Chi papers as an added bonus. They will likely be the last M24 daughters to sell.

As a group, we made a commitment this year to make the cow division of the sale second to none. I think that is very evident when you look through the catalog and sort through them out back. We committed to bringing big time young cows at the start of their journey so you could write the script. Most of them are coming with their first club calf mating and are bred for a quick return. To start it off with a bang, I picked my two top donor prospects on the place that I was planning on entering into ET after this calf is born and am selling 1/2 interest in the choice of either 2/859 or Z10. 2/859 was my favorite cow off the Reimann dispersal. She is as long necked as you could ask for with a perfect profile, smooth shoulder and perfect feet and legs. Her first three natural calves were a late born cleanup calf that was really good and sold for $6,500, then a MAB steer that sold to Damon Fesmire followed by a Maternal Made heifer that was as good as they come and sold on our 2017 spring born sale. When we purchased her, we thought there was a chance she could be a TH carrier and didn’t find out until recently by testing that she is TH free and PHA free but is a DS carrier. We had IVF’ed her to Hi Ho Silver after her first calf to be safe and sold one incredible steer for $7,750, and a heifer sells in this sale as Lot 41. She was successfully shown by the Lock family as a breeding heifer, and I haven’t had time to go that route yet but it is very exciting to think about what she could have with Style embryo calves or the likes. She is currently bred to Getcha Some, and the value of that bull calf could be out of this world for a fast return on investment.

She is solid from end to end. She has produced some amazing offspring!

This own daughter of Who Made Who is the one I always should have flushed. She raised two Hollywood steers Bonham bought, averaging over $10,000, and a couple of heifers that we kept. She’s young enough to go and get it done. Bred to Monopoly, you’ll pay for her with her first calf.

We hope to see you in Dunlap on January 27th, and we guarantee that if you make the trip, we have something to fit your program!

310 is one of my favorite young cows. Her picture doesn’t do her justice. She doesn’t care about pom poms, harmonicas or umbrellas. Nothing gets her fired up, not even a coyote call or Clay Duxbury towering over her on a fence. Anyway, please find her at the sale, as I think she has big donor potential. She has had three natural calves, all heifers. Her first calf was a Brilliance born in 2015 that sold to Weavers on the 2017 Combined Forces Sale. In 2016 and 2017, she had a Slider and then a Primo that were both retained for replacements. This is her first club calf mating, and she is bred to Here I Am. After three straight heifer calves, she is due for a bull.

I really like the Cerveza cows and am not sure why I didn’t breed more over the years. They have great udders and are very maternal, yet they still can make great steers or heifers. Like most all our young cows, 306 was bred maternal the first three tries. Her first calf in 2015 died, but she had a replacement we kept in 2016 and in 2017 has an awesome Maternal Made bull that we left a bull and will be on our upcoming bull sale. The bull looked so good at breeding time that we bred her back that way. There is almost no way you can go wrong with a Cerveza built like this with a Maternal Made inside her. Take advantage.

Maternal Made on an Irish Whiskey is as automatic as it gets. It just clicks, and all my Irish Whiskey cows get bred that way before we try for steers. 315’s dam is a big part of our herd. You can see her in many of the pedigrees on this sale. She was a belly draggin’ Angus with huge feet and legs that we flushed for a while. This daughter is one you build off of maternally.

In the first pasture sale in Ree Heights, I sold a Monopoly out of a full sib to 206 to Dax Lautner for $18,500. We don’t breed our females to club calf sires until they are coming with their third calf, and oh boy—did she ever hit a home run with her Monopoly steer, until mid-summer when that calf got struck by lightning. I am keeping her heifer calf back that she raised this time and giving someone else the opportunity for a sale of a great one. Don’t pass up this complete, proven THF Silver Bullet daughter. 521 is coming with her second calf and is ready to rock. Bred to the now-deceased I Believe, she is cool made, very hairy and great on the move. She had no problem with her first calf, an awesome Brilliance heifer calf. We wanted to offer a few young colored cows on this sale, so we bred her to I Believe. If she could have a Brilliance like she had, I can only imagine what an I Believe will look like. The best thing about this mating is that the I Believe females are making a big splash, so steer or heifer, this could be great. 521’s dam and grandam have done extremely well and have never had any throwaways. The grandam, W101, sold a bred heifer sired by Monopoly on the 2016 Combined Forces Sale for $13,500, another in 2017 sired by MAB for $5,000 and had a replacement or a sale calf every year prior to that. Good stuff here.

We think 4105 can do great things. She was a fall from 2014 that will be having her second calf. The Solid Golds are known for their production ability, and this one is out of our P1 Silver Bullet donor cow that has produced in excess of $200,000 in sales over the years. This is the first daughter I have offered of P1 as a bred. She is double clean and bred to the deceased I Believe. I Believe works great on club calf genetics that are clean, and the females are starting to be in as high demand as the steers. Her first calf was an Angus-sired cleanup bull calf that had the parts and pieces. I can’t say enough about the I believe females I have kept…they are going to be big deals. This cow could make lots of money.

In Maternal Made’s short time, he has already produced countless high sellers and champions far too numerous to list. A full brother, NMR New Beginning, just sold on Embryos On Snow 2018. Due to limited embryo production by this mating other than Maternal Made himself, there have only been two full sib bull calves born, and they were equally as good.
