Welcome to Perfect Pets Magazine Edition April 2024 Issue!

This month, we delve into the vibrant spring season. Springtime is a joyous season, especially for our pets. As the world around them blossoms, so does their spirits. The winter chill fades, giving way to warm sun rays, a symphony of birdsong, and a panorama of blooming flowers. Pets, much like us, sense this change in the air, and it reflects in their behaviour as well.

Dogs, for instance, become more playful and energetic, eager for longer walks and games in the park. They revel in chasing butterflies, exploring the new scents the season brings, and rolling in the fresh grass. It’s a great time for owners to bond with their pets outdoors, be it through a game of fetch or while teaching them new tricks.

Cats, on the other hand, find joy in the comfort of sunny spots by the window, basking in the warm sunlight. Bird-watching becomes their favourite pastime, their gaze following the feathered creatures flitting about.

Spring is also the perfect time for pet owners to focus on their pet’s health. It’s an ideal time for a thorough grooming session to shed winter coats, a visit to the vet for a check-up or vaccinations, and a revision of their diet to match their increased activity levels.

However, spring also brings its own set of challenges. It’s the season of allergies, for humans and pets alike. Pollen can cause discomfort and allergic reactions in pets, leading to symptoms like sneezing, itching, or even respiratory issues. It’s important for pet owners to monitor their pets for any unusual behaviour or signs of distress and consult a vet if needed.

In conclusion, springtime is a magical season filled with new experiences and challenges for pets. It is a time of exploration and play, a time to bask in the warmth of the sun, and a time to be extra attentive to their health. As pet owners, it’s our responsibility to ensure that our pets enjoy this beautiful season healthily and safely.

Unfortunately, as of 2022, the springer spaniel who became an online star for his daily walks has died. His owner Kerry Irving credits Max - who was immortalised as a statue - with saving his life after the locksmith from Keswick was left in agonising pain and depression after a car crash.

Mr Irving said Max - who died at the age of 14 years and eight months - would leave a legacy for years to come. In a Facebook post Mr Irving said Max “fell asleep” in Manesty Woods near Derwentwater earlier.

He wrote: “This small dog with the waggy tail and hugest of hearts, gave love and hope to thousands of people worldwide. “Max’s legacy and story will continue to grow and inspire for many years to come. Every day gave us memories and every step with you beside us was a privilege.” He said the therapy dog was “our hero, a true legend”.

Max has been immortalised in his hometown with a bronze statue and in 2021 became the first pet to be given the PDSA’s Order of Merit, known as the animal OBE.
