What amazing times we live in! Rapidly changing, unpredictable. By the time these two phrases are uttered, you can be sure times will have changed. It’s like we’re watching a TV show about our lives on fast-forward. From Friday to Friday is a day, from January to January is a month. Last week’s news seems as fragile as bookmarks in a school book, yesterday’s events are already history, the morning headlines in the evening cause a tired smile: when was it, in the last century?

But life goes on. And the main thing remains unchanged: we, changing cities and countries, still strive to take from life everything that is possible, dream about finding or keeping happiness, and live not just simply but well. The second issue of the Florida Eastern European Community Guide is a very useful set of tools for this purpose.

Here, you will find information about many things, including those that will help you achieve your main goals. In fact, that’s what we’ve been in the publishing business for 34 years - helping our fellow countrymen in word and deed. We work for you, and it is two-way traffic because there is no us without you.

Though Sunny Isles Beach is a relatively young city, having incorporated in 1997, our rapid growth has been nothing short of extraordinary. As an immigrant from the former Soviet Union, whose family arrived in America with little more than hope and determination, I have a deep and personal appreciation for the resilience of female entrepreneurs particularly those in the Russian-speaking community. It is this unity in diversity that strengthens our city and fuels our collective success.

Welcome to Boca Raton! On behalf of our 100,000 residents, it is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to learn about our beautiful city as we celebrate our Centennial. Sunny Isles Beach Mayor Svechin Reflecting on 2024: A Year of Growth, Resilience, and Community

As we look ahead to all the exciting programs and improvements coming in 2025, I reflect the progress we’ve made and the unwavering strength of our community. This year has been a testament to the power of unity— of neighbors looking out for one another, of residents stepping up to make a difference, and of a city that continues to evolve while staying true to its core values. Through it all, one truth has remained clear: Sunny Isles Beach is thriving.

A Year of Connection: “Together We Thrive”

The theme of 2024, “Together We Thrive,”—it reflects our shared commitment to creating a better, safer, and more connected city. It is because of the residents and the Sunny Isles Beach Commission’s passion, ideas, and willingness to engage that have shaped every initiative, project, and improvement. Whether it was through community events, city feedback, or simply lending a helping hand to a neighbor, this year has shown that when we come together, we create something truly special.

Bridging the Gap: A New Era of Engagement

One of the most exciting advancements in community engagement was the launch of the My Sunny Isles Beach mobile app. With nearly 2,000 downloads and over 500 service requests processed, this tool has empowered residents to take an active role in shaping their city. Our newly redesigned website, sibfl.gov, has also made it easier than ever to access important services, stay informed, and connect with local government.

Fiscal Responsibility: Investing in Our Future

Sunny Isles Beach continues to prioritize responsible financial stewardship. This year marked the 12th consecutive year of lowering the millage rate, now at 1.8 mills, ensuring that residents receive the best value for their tax dollars. We have one of the lowest tax rates in the county. We also made a meaningful global impact by investing $1 million in Israel Jubilee Bonds, supporting Israel while securing a strong return for our community.

Prioritizing Safety: Roads, Public Services, and New Technologies

Safety is the foundation of a strong community, and in 2024, we made significant strides to enhance it. To combat traffic accidents and reckless driving, red-light cameras were installed at key intersections, issuing nearly 7,600 citations since September. The Scoot Safe – Sunny Isles Beach initiative registered 884 scooters and issued 1,456 citations to encourage safer roads for everyone.

We implemented Carbyne, a groundbreaking technology that allows non-emergency callers to share their real-time location with police dispatchers, improving response times and safety-- championed Commissioner Joseph. Meanwhile, our Police Department adopted advanced facial recognition software and AI-powered firearm detection at Pelican Community Park—ensuring that our officers can act swiftly to protect our residents.

Overcoming Adversity: A Resilient Response to Flooding

In June, our city faced severe flooding that affected homes, roads, and daily life. But in true Sunny Isles Beach spirit, our dedicated teams worked tirelessly to restore normalcy. The City Commission took decisive action, approving the purchase of two high-water vehicles and large-capacity pumps to improve our flood response. Additionally, the Building Department introduced a flood risk portal, offering residents personalized property insights to strengthen our floodplain management efforts.

Creating Spaces for Reflection, Recreation, and Growth

May marked the opening of the Meditation Garden at Town Center Park—a peaceful sanctuary designed for reflection and tranquility. Meanwhile, Pelican Community Park saw major upgrades, including an enhanced gym, new scoreboards, security cameras, and improved acoustics to elevate the experience for residents of all ages.

For our youth, The Spot opened its doors in July, providing a vibrant, welcoming space for teens aged 12-17 to connect, unwind, and participate in engaging programs. This initiative fosters a sense of belonging and strengthens the bonds within our community.

Commissioner Fabiola Stuyvesant held a town hall to educate and engage families, aimed at strengthening the connections between residents and addressing critical issues.

Advocating for Public Transportation and Senior Services

When Miami-Dade County modified bus routes, many residents—especially those living west of Collins Avenue—were left without reliable transportation. Thanks to the advocacy of our City Commission and the collective voices of our community, the County reinstated a crucial bus route, restoring accessibility for those who depend on it.

Vice Mayor Alex Lama has remained a steadfast champion for our senior residents, spearheading town halls and attending roundtable discussions to ensure their voices are heard and their needs met. Additionally, we launched a discounted parking program, allowing residents to register their vehicles for reduced rates at Pay-by-Phone meters—making city parking more affordable and convenient.

Celebrating Arts, Culture, and Community Engagement

Our community spirit shined brightly in 2024 through events like Community Resource Night and the Community Resource Fair, which saw record-breaking attendance. Commissioner Jeniffer Viscarra played a pivotal role in advancing local advocacy through the Community Legislative Advocacy Prog ram, fostering con nections between residents and state legislators.

I have always championed the Arts and bringing artists to Sunny Isles Beach has been a goal of mine for years. The arts flourished in Sunny Isles Beach, with the Sunny Spaces Gateway Artway and immersive exhibits by Luli Sulichin, which provided

a poignant and somber visceral experience of the victims of the October 7, 2023, terrorist attacks in Israel. The success of Art Uncorked—a series celebrating local and international artists—further underscored our city’s commitment to culture and creativity.

Looking Forward to 2025: Growth, Innovation, and Community-Centered Development

The momentum we’ve built in 2024 will carry us into an exciting 2025. We are laying the groundwork for a reimagined west side of Collins Avenue, engaging residents and business owners to help shape its future. Plans for the Intracoastal Sports Park—a resident-only space featuring multi-use courts— are underway, along with the expansion of Pelican Community Park on the former Le Richelieu property. Additionally, the Building Department will soon move to its new home at the Government Center Annex—formerly the site of Tony Roma’s—streamlining services and improving accessibility for residents. Additionally the east facing

portion of the space will be a restaurant with all day breakfast options.

None of this would be possible without them. Their engagement, resilience, and dedication to our city are what make Sunny Isles Beach so special. As we step into 2025, we do so with a shared vision of progress, connection, and opportunity.

The power of leadership in crisis: Alberto Carvalho’s unwavering commitment

The impossible becomes the inevitable with skill, will, and belief.

Alberto Carvalho

For 15 years, Alberto Carvalho served as Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools before taking on the leadership of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) two years ago. His deep understanding of compassion, patience and leadership proved invaluable when devastating wildfires swept through Greater Los Angeles, destroying homes, displacing families, and shattering lives.

Among the destruction, two elementary schools and Palisades Charter High School, home to 3,000 students, were lost to the flames. In response, the LAUSD Education Foundation quickly established an Emergency Relief Fund to accept financial contributions and essential supplies to aid wildfire victims. While donated items poured in, financial support remains critical in rebuilding lives and communities. Contributions can be made by contacting the Foundation at info@ lausdedfoundation.org

The Emergency Relief Fund will provide direct cash assistance to affected families and employees, support teachers and classroom resources to ensure continuity of learning, and offer flexible aid for mental health services, classroom reestablishment, and other immediate and long-term needs. Carvalho expressed his gratitude, saying, “My deepest thanks go to the first responders from across the country who put their lives on the line to protect our cities and homes, to local authorities and District employees who worked tirelessly to safely return students to classrooms, and to the people nationwide who stepped up to support our families and workforce during this crisis.”

Recognizing the emotional toll on students and educators, LAUSD swiftly mobilized mental health counseling for students, families, and staff. Parents were provided with guidance on helping their children process the tragedy, reassuring them that better days lay ahead. Sixteen feeding sites were established, and school filtration and HVAC systems were thoroughly inspected to ensure safe reopenings. The devastation also directly impacted LAUSD staff, with more than 400 employees displaced and a majority of teachers losing their homes. In response, the LAUSD School Board granted seven to ten days of personal time to help them regain stability. Nearby schools welcomed displaced students and teachers, ensuring that education continued despite the hardship.

A legacy of resilience and compassion

Here in Miami, those who knew Alberto Carvalho never doubted that he would lead LAUSD through this crisis --he had done it before. Former Aventura Mayor Enid Weisman, who worked alongside Carvalho at Miami-Dade County Public Schools, shared,  “Alberto has an uncanny ability to connect with people:  business leaders, politicians, religious figures, workers, families, entire communities. But most of all, he touches children. Just as he did in Miami, I knew he wouldn’t rest until every child in LA was safe and back in school.”

Diana Venturini, who collaborated with Carvalho on countless community outreach projects, recalled his unwavering dedication: “Alberto deeply cared about our community, always a champion for what was good and right for children and families. His forte is leading in crisis. When the pandemic hit, he quickly created a plan to feed our community and save local restaurants.  For almost 10 months, alongside school, police and volunteers, he went out daily delivering meals purchased from local restaurants.”

His commitment extended far beyond school walls. At an Aventura Marketing Council/Chamber of Commerce event for children with disabilities, he saw children in wheelchairs waiting to be lifted into specially-adapted sailboats. Without hesitation, he stepped into the water to help lift them aboard. Then, he went a step further by purchasing a boat to ensure even more children could experience the joy of sailing, a freedom they lacked on land.

Even in the face of disaster, Carvalho remained steadfast in his belief in the power of community. “Everyone rolled up their sleeves, did what was needed, and demonstrated the shared humanity that connects us all. While the road to recovery is long and challenging, our return to normalcy is well on its way. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families still facing this crisis.”

Through leadership, resilience, and compassion, Alberto Carvalho continues to turn the impossible into the inevitable--one student, one family, and one community at a time.

It is the 2nd largest city in Florida (after Jacksonville) and the 42nd largest city in the United States. Miami is currently growing at a rate of 1.09% annually and its population has increased by 19.73% since the most recent census, which recorded a population of 399,457 in 2010.

History

Spaniards in the 16th century found a village (perhaps 2,000 years old) of Tequesta Indians on the site. The name Mayaimi, probably meaning “big water” or “sweet water,” may have referred to Lake Okeechobee or to local Native Americans who took their name from the lake. In 1567 the Spanish established a mission there as part of a futile attempt to subdue the Tequesta. They ceded the area to Great Britain in 1763 but regained it in 1783. After the United States acquired Florida from Spain in 1821, Fort Dallas was built (1836) as a base during the Seminole Wars. A few settlers—among them Julia D. Tuttle, known as the “mother of Miami,” and William B. Brickell—gradually moved into the area.

In 1896 Henry M. Flagler extended his Florida East Coast Railway to the site after Tuttle and Brickell each gave him half of their landholdings for the project. Flagler had been convinced to extend the railroad after a freeze during the winter of 1894–95 killed most of Florida’s citrus

crop; Tuttle reportedly sent him a fresh orange blossom to prove that the freeze had not reached Miami. Flagler dredged the harbor, started constructing the Royal Palm Hotel, and promoted tourism. Miami was incorporated the same year.

During the Florida land boom in the early and mid1920s, the city’s population more than tripled, but the collapse of this speculation, compounded by a devastating hurricane in 1926, dampened Miami’s fortunes for more than a decade. Neighboring Miami Beach underwent a brief construction boom in the mid-1930s, when many Art Deco buildings were erected, but this came to an end during World War II, when soldiers replaced tourists at the oceanfront hotels and long stretches of beach were converted to rifle ranges. After the war, many soldiers returned to the Miami area to live, and in the 1950s and ’60s Latin American immigrants, particularly those from Cuba, began to arrive in large numbers. In the 15 years following the Cuban Revolution in 1959, it is estimated that some 500,000 Cubans fled to Miami; many of these immigrants received assimilation aid from the U.S. federal government. During the 1980s Miami gained a reputation as a centre of the illegal cocaine trade, and several acts of violence were directed against foreign tourists in the early 1990s; however, by the end of the 20th century, tourism was rebounding. In 1992 Hurricane Andrew caused some 50 deaths and considerable property damage to areas of the county just south of Miami, although the city itself was largely spared.

The Contemporary Miami

The downtown skyline of Miami features a contemporary look, with a large collection of gleaming glass-walled skyscrapers accented with neon lighting at night. The Brickell neighborhood, just south of the city’s historic central business district, became one of Miami’s fastest-growing neighborhoods and is the city’s major financial district. More than 70 percent of the population is Hispanic/Latino. Indeed, the city’s close relationship to Latin America is especially well represented in its ethnic neighborhoods. The Little Havana district, just west of downtown, developed as a largely Cuban enclave within the city. Its annual Calle Ocho festival (March; part of the Carnival Miami celebration) draws large crowds of visitors. Little Haiti, to the north of downtown, developed as a primarily Haitian neighborhood after refugees began arriving in the city in the 1990s.

A tropical climate helps to make Miami one of America’s great winter resorts, and tourism is a major component of the city’s economy. The miles of shoreline are lined with glittering skyscraper hotels and are dotted with marinas, yacht clubs, and golf courses. The city is also a center of international banking and finance, business services, manufacturing (including apparel, medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, printing, and

metal products) and international commerce. The Port of Miami handles international shipping and is a world leader in cruise ship operations. Miami International Airport also handles international cargo going mostly to Latin America and the Caribbean and is a major travel hub. The city is served by a highway network that includes the Dixie Highway, Tamiami Trail, and Florida’s Turnpike.

Museums

The Miami Seaquarium, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens (1916; estate of industrialist James Deering), Bayside Marketplace, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, and Jungle Island (formerly Parrot Jungle and Gardens) are among the area’s many attractions. There are museums of history, art, and science, as well as several theatre, music, and dance organizations. Scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, windsurfing, and sportfishing are among the many popular outdoor activities, as are sailing regattas and fishing tournaments. Horse and greyhound racetracks and jai alai frontons offer pari-mutuel betting. Aventura is a planned, suburban city in northeastern MiamiDade County, Florida, United States, 15 miles (24 km) north of Miami and part of the Miami metropolitan area of South Florida. The city is especially known for Aventura Mall, the third largest mall in the United States by total square feet of retail space and the largest mall in Florida. The city name is from the Spanish word for “adventure”, and was named “Aventura” after the developers of the original group of condominiums in the area, Eddie Lewis and Don Soffer, who had remarked “What an adventure this is going to be.”

Initially referred to as “Turnberry”, Aventura began to be developed during the early 1970s and became an incorporated city in 1995. The Aventura Police Department was formed in 1997.

Aventura is located in northeastern Miami-Dade County. It is bordered to the east by Golden Beach and Sunny Isles Beach, to the south by North Miami Beach, and to the west by unincorporated Ojus. It is bordered to the north by Hallandale Beach in Broward County. U.S. Route 1 (Biscayne Boulevard) runs along the western edge of the city, leading south 15 miles (24 km) to Downtown Miami and north 12 miles (19 km) to Fort Lauderdale. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has an area of 3.5 square miles (9.1 km2). Of that, 2.6 sq mi (6.7 km2) are land and 0.9 sq mi (2.3 km2) (24.73%) are water. The Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and Dumfoundling Bay form the eastern border of the city, while the southern border is within Maule Lake.

The Aventura Express shuttle bus is a city-run public bus service, free to anyone in Aventura. The service runs three routes (North, Central, and South). Miami-Dade Transit’s Metrobus and Broward County Transit bus systems also run through the city. Metrobus provide connections to Metrorail and Metromover at

Government Center via Biscayne Boulevard/US 1. Over the last 30 years, travel infrastructure in Aventura has been heavily funded and influenced by developers of the many highrise condominium projects near the beach. Brightline is an inter-city rail service operating between Miami and Orlando. The Aventura station, located adjacent to the Aventura Mall, provides service along the route.

Tri-Rail commuter rail service has also been proposed to run on the FEC line. Another proposal would extend the Miami Metrorail along the US 1 corridor from Downtown Miami to the Broward County line, which would pass through Aventura and Hallandale Beach.

The most famous shopping attraction is Aventura Mall, a 2,400,000 sq ft (222,967 m2) indoor shopping center. The outdoor malls are “Aventura Town Center”, “Aventura Shopping Center”, “Aventura Commons”, “The Promenade Shops”, and “The Shoppes at the Waterways”. The city also has its own exclusive parks and recreation department which operate Founders Park, Founders Park Bayside, Waterways Park, Waterways Dog Park, Veterans Park, The Community Recreation Center, and the Aventura Arts and Cultural Center. At the geographical center of Aventura is the Turnberry Golf Course, encircled by Aventura’s Country

Schools

Aventura is served by the Miami-Dade County Public Schools system. Aventura Waterways K-8 Center serves as the public K-8 school of MDCPS which serves Aventura. The school is outside of the city limits but all children that live in Aventura are in the boundary for that school. Dr. Michael Krop High School in Ives Estates is currently the sole MDCPS high school serving North Miami-Dade County residents, including those of Aventura. Krop is considered to be a magnet school because it has a “Students Training in the Arts Repertory” program, and has a total student body population of 2,833.

There are also charter schools established with sponsorship from the municipal government, Aventura City of Excellence School, a K-8 school. It was for years the only public school within the City of Aventura. It is operated by a private charter school company called Charter Schools USA. Built and opened in 2003, ACES was ranked in the top 10 of all schools in Florida. The Northeast Branch of the MiamiDade Public Library System serves Aventura[27] as a means of accessing information for all education alike.

Regional universities and higher education institutions

North Miami is a suburban city located in northeast MiamiDade County, about 10 miles (16 km) north of Miami. Political Structure

The City of North Miami Beach has a strong manager form of government. The City Commission consisting of the Mayor (Michael Joseph, Esq.) and 6 Commissioners has and exercises power and control via decision making, establishing policy for the City (legislative function), while the City Manager (Mario A. Diaz) has the responsibility for ensuring that those decisions and policies are carried out (executive function).

History

Captain William H. Fulford was attracted to what is now North Miami Beach during his Coast Guard patrol along the Atlantic side of the peninsula during the Spanish-American War. In 1881 he explored Big Snake Creek (later renamed the Oleta River) and found this area amid lowlands, marshes, and mangroves, a retreat from the fury of the Atlantic. When Henry Flagler extended the Florida East Coast Railway from West Palm Beach to Miami in 1896, he placed depots at numerous spots along the route, and small towns quickly developed around those stops. Many of the settlers to the area were homesteaders who were attracted to the area by offers of 160 acres of free land by the federal government. In 1897, utilizing the Homestead Act, Captain Fulford acquired a 160-acre land patent from President Grover Cleveland.

During the 1890s settlers established farms along the east side of the Oleta River. That area was originally named Ojus in

1897 by Albert Fitch, a farmer who wanted to grow pineapples in the rich soil. The word Ojus is a Seminole word for «plenty» or «lots of», and when Fitch was in the area, Ojus grew plenty of peas, beans, sugar cane, and tomatoes.

In 1912 Lafe Allen, a former newspaper owner, came to Florida. He and an associate purchased Captain Fulford’s original grant plus additional property with the idea of developing and selling lots. Eventually, they purchased 557 acres of land. In 1917, Mr. Allen made plans for a «perfect city» calling for 80-foot wide residential streets and 100 and 125-foot wide business thoroughfares. North Miami Beach’s street layout is as the pioneer pictured it in 1917 with wide avenues named Fulford Boulevard (now known as Northeast 172nd Street) and Flagler Boulevard (now known as Northeast 19th Avenue). The Fulfordby-the-Sea Company began selling lots in 1922. During the Florida land boom of the 1920’s, lots were sometimes sold eight times before ever being recorded.

There were a great many people from all over the United States with money to invest in the great Florida Land Boom of the mid-1920s. They flocked to South Florida in hopes of getting riches made when orange groves and swamp lands were subdivided, sold, and developed. In 1925, Carl Fisher (who built the Indianapolis Speedway in 1909) was developing Miami

Beach and envisioned this area as the winter auto racing capital of the world. He built the world’s fastest 1-1/4 mile «boardtrack» (a wooden, oval race track). It was located at the northern end of Flagler Boulevard (NE 19th Avenue) in today’s Sky Lake neighborhood before being demolished in the hurricane of 1926. The city, which had been unincorporated at the time of the great hurricane in 1926, sustained devastating damage. The speedway and radio station were blown down and demolished. The hurricane essentially ended the South Florida real estate boom, and it did not flourish again until after World War II.

compact discs, newspapers, magazines, and foreign language materials. Digital services include access to e-materials and reference resources, such as Florida Electronic Library, Newsbank, Reference USA, World Book, NoveList Plus, and more.[37]

In 1959, the North Miami Beach Library was initially opened inside of a storefront on NE 163rd Street as a branch of the MiamiDade Public Library System (then known as the City of Miami Library system). This location was relocated and expanded to two storefronts at the corner of NE 19th Avenue and NE 169th Street the following year.[38] In 1961, however, the city ended its attachment with the City of Miami Library system and became an independent library. During this time, the library was merely a staff of two. The staff had a minor budget of 25,000 to build the collection for the library. After residents of the City of North Miami Beach voted to build a permanent location for the library in 1964, a new building was constructed on 164th Street and opened in 1965. Renovations to this facility in 1981 and 1994 grew the branch from its original 10,000 square feet to make room for the library’s expanding collection. The last reservation took place in 1994 and granted the facility its current dimensions at over 23,000 square feet.

Naples Pier

THE OLDE NAPLES PIER

First came the hotel, and then the pier.

In January, 1888, there was no pier. The Naples Company found and purchased the fastest steamship on the coast: Captain Merritt’s «Fearless». This ship, which ran from Punta Gorda to Naples, entered through Gordon’s Pass, up into the Bay of Naples, according to the Company’s promotional brochure. However, in low tide, passengers had to be shuttled ashore by «lighters» out in the Gulf, which featured troublesome sandbars (and some rock’n’roll).

Thus, a construction contract was let to Captain James Canty in Ft. Myers in June, 1888, for a 600-foot T-shaped wharf in 18 feet deep water on the Gulf side, facing the hotel. Pilings and timbers were off-loaded in the surf and towed ashore.

When the hotel opened in January, 1889, the wooden pier had just been completed. It was the place for passengers, freight, and fishing. The post office was located at the foot of the pier (where it stayed until 1922, when an accidental cigarette fire destroyed the building and part of the pier).

A combination boardwalk and tramway fitted with rails extended from the foot of the pier, along Pier Street (now called Twelfth Avenue South), to the hotel. A cart could easily roll materials and luggage, but children loved getting on for a push. By 1909, a bathhouse and changing rooms were available; freight lifts had also been added. Then, the unwelcome guests arrived!

It was 1988, and the city we now know as Aventura was 785 acres of swampland. But there were visionaries...the late Harry Soffer and his son Don Soffer and partner George Berlin (aka Gentleman George) who saw the potential of building a beautiful enclave that would become a destination location.

In 1989, the initial developers of Aventura, including Turnberry, Coscan Florida, Mystic Point and Williams Island, created the Aventura Marketing Council/Chamber of Commerce (AMC) to ensure that Aventura would become a destination location as architect Robert Swedroe was designing the new skyline of Aventura. International celebrities such as Sophia Loren, the BeeGees and Liza Minnelli and events such as Cirque du Soleil and the Royal Polo were brought in to help promote Aventura while raising funds for charities. Aventura was gaining international recognition.

Collaborating with the community’s major residential organization, the Joint Council of Aventura, the AMC created a self-taxing district to handle everything from security, zoning, transportation and signage to beautification in addition to promotion of the new community while holding great meetings and events for their business members.

When the City of Aventura incorporated in 1995, it was a happy day for the AMC as they knew the City would now handle the myriad of operations of the new city so AMC could focus on running their organization. Since 1996, the AMC has worked closely with the City of Aventura and its leadership teams over the years, and continues to have a strong working relationship with Aventura’s elected and appointed officials. Mayor Howard S. Weinberg, Esq. said, “The Aventura Marketing Council is ,

and has always been, an integral part of our business community. However, the AMC is so much more. It is woven into the fabric of our city. Members become lifelong friends. My Story

I believe we all have a story that has brought us exactly where we are today.

My Health and Wellness Journey began over 30 years ago – it started when I realized that I have to heal my daughter in a different way than traditional medicine offered at that time. After spending days and nights reading tons of medicinal and alternative literature and searching for the solutions I finally got the answer. My daughter was getting better every day. And it was a successful step that I proudly shared with the other mothers and then little by little I became somewhat of a health advisor whose opinion was highly valued.

At this time I did not realize that it was my calling to help my family, friends, neighbors and their families in order to live healthier and happier lives. I always tried to live a healthy lifestyle myself and I just felt compelled to help others do the same.

I received my Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Long Island University in New York City. While completing my six years of rotation in different hospitals of NYC, I saw a lot of sick people suffering from multiple diseases and my heart was full of compassion, I strongly desired to help them.

As time went by and I already had been dispensing medications in retail, hospitals and home infusion pharmacies. I always spent time counseling my patients about therapeutic lifestyle changes (TLS) that needed to be done to stop the progression of the disease and improve their quality of life. I always heard positive feedback from my patients when they followed my recommendations and I even saw some of them getting off the medications, losing weight and totally transforming their lives.

I started to pursue my education towards nutrition and become a Board Certified Nutrition Support Pharmacist. This opened up an opportunity for me not just to dispense the medications but also to make nutrition counseling and life changing recommendations for the patients.

Working at the University of Miami Hospital with a famous surgeon, writing the nutritional orders for inpatient and spending many hours helping her to provide nutrition support at the outpatient clinic, I started thinking about prevention of diseases. A lot of patients told me if they possessed the nutritional information I shared with them a long time ago, that they would not be in their current condition today.

I’ve been discovering how to help men and women who are stressed out, busy professionals transform their bodies….and their lives. After years of research in psychology, nutrition, and optimal performance, I’ve realized that it’s time to turn this passion into practical knowledge for the real world.

I received My Health Coach and Advanced Nutrition Certifications from the Health Coach Institute. I developed Total Transformation program and skills everyone can use in their everyday life that help you lose weight, gain energy, and transform your body!

I love being able to blend my pharmacy and nutrition background with coaching experience to help everyone who feel like they are stuck and want to get back on track and to get the body and the health they deserve.

We all know what to do, we just don’t do it. That’s a problem. Knowledge does not equal behavior changes. We don’t need more facts. We are getting a lot of theory, but we are not putting it into practice. Сразу оговорюсь, ребе понравился

мне и поэтому я решил сделать о нём небольшой очерк, а не интервью. Интервью ведь что: ты задаешь вопросы, собесед-

ник отвечает, редактируешь и — готово.

Очерк же требует образного начала, он

позволяет журналисту выразить авторское видение события, явления, а в данном случае - человека. Но для этого че-

ловек должен понравиться. Потому что

написание очерка — занятие трудоёмкое. И выплёскивать душу на неинтересного и несимпатичного человека — непозволительное расточительство. Иначе было бы интервью. Которое, кстати, редактировать не составило бы особого труда: русский язык у Александра Каллера — чистый, литературный, богатый, живой. И ещё одна оговорка: я не скрываю и часто напоминаю читателям, слушателям и

историю, на память пришло сравнение с Михаилом Талем, фундаментальные шахматные знания которого подкреплялись врожденной способностью к импровизации по ходу партии и склонностью к нестандарным, порой импульсивным, а потому всегда неожиданным и непредсказуемым для специалистов ходам. Не говоря уже

Ева считает. Из-под воды я слышу:

- Восемь, девять, двенадцать, тринадцать, восемнадцать...

- Ева, - выныриваю я. - Так нечестно, я всё слышал...

- Если бы ты не болел, - говорит Ева, - то я бы считала честно. Но ты болеешь.

И должен быть жив и здоров к тому моменту, когда вернутся твои родители... - А когда они вернутся? - спрашиваю я.

Вместо ответа Ева тяжело вздыхает. Никто не знает, когда вернутся мои родители. Мои родители - не полярники, они не дрейфуют на льдине, они не

в космосе и не в длительной командировке. Мои родители уехали отдыхать

в Одессу, а в Одессе - холера. Не такая

вспышка, какая ещё случится в 70-м, но

- От холеры умирают, - говорит Ева. - А от дизентерии - нет...

Но больше всего удивило и расстроило меня то обстоятельство, что

всем была права. Но самое удивительное, что этого ей было мало - чувство-

себя правой: она стремилась еще и доказать другим, что они не правы. - Она что, только этим и занималась? - спрашиваю я. - Практически, - вновь после небольшой паузы отвечает Ноэми.

Еве было шестьдесят, когда она решила уехать в Израиль. Сложившаяся

к тому времени жизненная ситуация подталкивала ее к опрометчивому решению - смириться и дожить. Восемь

лет назад она похоронила мужа, единственный сын развелся и женился вторич-

но, на симпатичной латышке-медсестре, которая родила ему красивую девочку со светлыми волосами. На свадьбу при-

ехали родители медсестры из деревни.

В качестве приданого они привезли

домашний сыр, хлеб и живого петуха.

В подарок - переписанную на дочкино

имя очередь на автомобиль “Запоро-

жец”. Ева подумала и переписала на имя

сына трехкомнатную квартиру.

Новая невестка, в отличие от прежней, относилась к Еве хорошо. Она ве-

ликолепно готовила, и Еве нравилось, что теперь её сын ходит в отглаженных рубашках, отутюженных брюках и начищенных до блеска ботинках. Каждый

вечер Еву звали к столу: расставленные

приборы, бутылка вина, свеча в подсвечнике...

- Когда ты все успеваешь? - искренне удивляясь, спрашивала Ева. - Мне в радость, - тихо отвечала невестка. - Кушайте, мама... - Не понимаю, чего она хочет, - говорила Ева доктору Голдбергу. - Уже и прописали её, и всё... Такая вниматель-

маленные салфетки, и меню. А может, ей просто стало плохо от того, что она поняла: так она не относилась ни к одному мужчине в своей жизни, даже к тем, которые заслуживали хорошего отношения. А, оказывается, мужчины ценят хорошее отношение: сын буквально светился счастьем. За ужином Ева с сарказмом пофилософствовала о том, что обыденность, рутина убивают любые, даже самые сильные чувства. Невестка вопросительно посмотрела на нее и, извинившись перед мужем, вышла. - Ты развела меня с одной, а сейчас взялась за другую? - глухо спросил сын. - Не смей. Еще один раз - и мы размениваем квартиру... Ева удивилась. Ее сын впервые - на пятом десятке - взял не ее сторону. Причем, по ее мнению, пустячный повод не требовал заступничества такой амплитуды. От неожиданности она стала оправдываться и даже побежала извиняться перед невесткой, но медсестра

плакала за закрытой дверью и не отвечала. И Ева не выдержала. - Вы угрожаете мне разменом? - закричала она. - Вы угрожаете выселить

меня из квартиры, которую я вам и подарила? Она завелась не на шутку и в этот вечер правду о себе узнали все: и неблагодарный сын, и коварная невестка с ее деревенскими
