Funding feedback

ana Philipova from Bendigo Nursing Home, who were successful in their grant application to receive £1500 towards a Digital Social Care Record system.

Here’s what she had to say:

The process of obtaining the DSCR funding has been really easy, because of the help and assistance Sarah McNally and Nada provided. Sarah ‘held my hand’ throughout the whole process. In addition, the provided sample was very helpful.

Thank you

Craig Bailey, Registered Manager at Aldingbourne Cottage also adds:

Thank you to the DSCR Project team, especially Claire who has helped me every step of the way to secure funding and find the best digital care package to suit our needs. Claire understands how busy care home managers are and has gone above and beyond to ensure the process was as straightforward as possible for me. Me and my team are excited to start using our new digital care records.

Chenai from Evergood Medical says:

The process was easy because of the support your team gave me. I am using Pass for care and carers are happy with the digital care.

We are always pl
o receive news f omes and their staff who ave benefitted from the upport we offer.

Do you have a Digital Social Care Record system?

Now part of annual return to CQC

CQC are committed to supporting the programme to drive and accelerate adoption of digital records across adult social care.

Mark Sutton, CDO at CQC was quoted as saying “to be clear there are rumours that the CQC don’t like DSCRs. I absolutely refute that. We’re here promoting the use of DSCRs, and will be incorporating the requirement for DSCRs into our framework. We won’t be mandating the system but we will say a DSCR should be in place to support a safe, quality, compliant service”

He went on to say that “This is an incredibly well thought through offer of support being made available to providers and I urge you all to access it”

And that “This is a fantastic initiative bringing together a meeting of minds to support social care”

The Data Security and Protection Toolkit

Funding will continue for another year to enable us to offer training and support to help providers complete their DSPT. This announcement from the Department of Health shows their commitment to improve Data and Cyber Security within Adult Social Care.

Keeping your paper and digital information safe is key to running a care service people can trust. You can protect your business, your service users and your staff from data losses and take steps towards protecting yourself from cyber attacks by completing your Data Security and Protection Toolkit.

The DSPT is easier to complete than you think.

It is not an assessment but a self-evaluation and you probably have most of the policies and procedures in place already. If you need any help or support, you can not only attend one of our free webinars but we can provide significant (and free) one to one support at a time that suits you.

All CQC registered care providers should complete the DSPT at least once a year.

We hold regular online sessions to help you complete your first DSPT, and we can also offer further support for those who are Republishing their annual self-assessment.

Our next session on DSPT is on 22nd March at 10.30am.

care

Ordering online saves care home, pharmacy and GP practice staff time It also makes dispensing easier and creates an automatic audit trail It’s quick, safe and secure for authorised care home staff to do

To help care homes, the NHS and the Local Government Association have published a step-by-step guide.

The guide details how to set up and grant authorised care home staff proxy access to resident’s GP online services. Proxy access is when an individual is permitted to access another person’s online GP account and given an individual login and password to do this.

The guidance provides examples of all the documentation you’ll need and explains that you’ll need a secure email system, such as NHSmail

You’ll also need to:

● put in place a data sharing agreement between your care home, the pharmacy and GP practice

● ensure that trained and authorised care home staff are up to date with information governance training

● ensure there’s a process in place to manage any breach of confidentiality or misuse of the system

● electronically submit the correctly completed setup request forms to the GP practice

● inform residents and their families of the proxy access, ensuring they record it properly

You can find out more ordering medications for care homes online, including the support available to care homes to do this, by accessing the new guidance on the NHS England and NHS Improvement website.

Republish your DSPT to ‘Standards Met’ - What’s new?

The Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) is an online self-assessment too providers in England to store and share information safely.

In this session, we look at the recent changes to the DSPT and help you navigate through these to achieve ‘Standards Met’ when you republish your DSPT for the 22/23 year.

Because things change in your setting, you need to review and republish your toolkit every year so that it reflects your current data and cyber security arrangements. For example, you may have introduced new staff, data systems, technology or services – which in turn will impact how you manage your information.

The deadline for publishing your DSPT for 2022/22 is 30 June 2023.

This webinar is for care providers who have published before, and are reviewing and republishing their DSPT but don't worry if you have never published, we will help you keep up.
