The right information. At the right time. In the right place.
We are working towards a truly integrated health and care system. For that to work, we need our online systems to be able to talk to each other effectively, so clinicians have the right information to help them do their job well. Plexus Care Record connects health and care records for practitioners in Sussex, providing them with the right information at the right time. By connecting digital systems across GPs, hospital and community healthcare services as well as local authorities, Plexus allows practitioners to securely access and update relevant patient information as part of the shared health and care record anywhere anytime. We are inviting clinicians across Sussex to engage with Plexus and gain access to datasets that will support clinical care and diagnoses. Our recent survey of over 300 clinicians at SPFT found that 75% felt

Assistive Technology is a term for assistive, adaptive, and rehabilitative devices for people with disabilities and the elderly, or those requiring support for everyday tasks.
Some people can experience difficulties performing activities of daily living (ADLs) independently, or even with assistance. ADLs are self-care activities that include toileting, mobility, eating, bathing, communicating, dressing, grooming, and personal device care. Assistive technology can help aid the effects of a disability that may limit the ability to perform ADLs. Assistive technology promotes greater independence by enabling people to perform tasks they are either unable to, or have great difficulty accomplishing, by providing enhancements to, or changing methods of interacting with, the technology needed to accomplish such tasks.
Due to assistive technology, some people have an opportunity of a more positive and fulfilling lifestyle, with an increase in "social participation", "security and control", and much more.
As an example, assistive technology can be helpful in assisting people who experience challenges writing or typing on a keyboard. They could access voice recognition software instead where voice-to-text technology would ‘type’ what they spoke. The use of technology where text can be magnified or the contrast and brightness changed, can enable those with eyesight impairments to access a wide range of learning and entertainment material as their reading ability is enhanced This of course can help reduce or eliminate isolation, loneliness with a potential increased level of social interaction and enjoyment
We would like to invite you to a free online webinar where we will explore the benefits of Assistive Technology and how it can help enhance the daily lives of the people you support in Adult Social Care.
In our mission to provide exceptional support to the people in our care, we must also ensure the security and confidentiality of their information. As you’re aware, the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) is a critical component of our governance and accountability measures.
While the 30th June deadline for DSPT republication has passed, it’s important to remember that our obligations to data security extend beyond a single date. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has introduced a new Single Assessment Framework, which emphasises the need for clear responsibilities and good governance, including adherence to the DSPT standards.
The DSPT is not just a regulatory requirement; it’s a reflection of our commitment to the people we support. By republishing your toolkit, you demonstrate compliance with the CQC’s ‘well-led’ domain, showcasing your service’s dedication to high-quality, person-centred care.
We understand that republishing the toolkit can be a complex process, which is why we’re offering free one-on-one support sessions to guide you through it. Whether you prefer an online meeting or a face-to-face conversation, we’re here to help. Our workshops, available both online and in person, will provide you with the latest insights into data security and the DSPT
Call to Action - Take this opportunity to align with the CQC’s standards and reinforce the trust placed in our services. Contact us to arrange your support session or to register for a workshop. Your proactive steps in data security will not only comply with regulatory standards but also fortify the privacy and dignity of the people we support.
Republish your DSPT and join us in setting a benchmark for data protection in Sussex.
Sussex care homes have achieved a remarkable ith the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT).
This achievement highlights the dedication and commitment of care home providers in Sussex to ensuring the highest standards of data security and protection. However, it is important to note that the home care sector is not performing as well and is currently lagging behind in DSPT compliance We understand the unique challenges that home care providers face, and that is why the Sussex Digital In Reach Team is here to support them
Home care providers are encouraged to attend one of the many workshops we offer, either in person or online. We also provide one-to-one support, and all our services are free of charge Data and cyber security may seem like distant risks, but small and medium-sized businesses are under attack almost daily In fact, the latest statistics from the Cyber Resilience Centre show that 32% of SMEs suffer attacks every year, and 56% of all reported crime is cyber-related
Our mission is to ensure that every care provider in Sussex, whether a care home or home care service, is equipped with the knowledge and tools to protect their data and maintain the highest standards of security.

The hospitals. It is a sober reminder that all health and care providers must be prepared to deal with cyber-attacks.
On Monday 3 June, Synnovis – a pathology partnership between Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, King’s College Hospitals NHS Trust and SYNLAB – was the victim of a ransomware cyber attack, resulting in interruptions to many of their services. The attack is considered to be one of the worst ever in the UK. The clinical impact of the attack has seen a significant reduction in the number of tests which can be processed and reported back to clinical teams. This means so far 1,134 elective procedures and 2,194 outpatient appointments have been postponed at King’s College Hospital and Guy’s and St Thomas since 3 June.
Qilin – the criminal gang responsible for the attack believed to be based in Russia – has now published almost 400GB sensitive stolen data on the darknet site. The data appears to include patient names, dates of birth, NHS numbers and descriptions of blood tests. There are also business account spreadsheets detailing financial arrangements between hospitals and GP services and Synnovis. Qilin also claim that they carried out the attack as a ‘protest’ but declined to explain their political allegiance or location. The group says it chose to attack blood test firm Synnovis deliberately saying: “Our citizens are dying in unequal combat from a lack of medicines and donor blood.” Their claims of political allegiance have been met with cynicism.
The release of this data indicates that Synnovis has not paid any ransom. NHS England, the National Cyber Security Centre, Synnovis and the hospital trusts are working to identify and resolve the issue.
