Republish your DSPT to ‘Standards Met’ - It’s still not too late!
Thursday 6th July 2023 at 14.30 - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/653776231307
In this session, we look at the recent changes to the DSPT and help you navigate through these to achieve ‘Standards Met’ when you republish your DSPT for the 22/23 year
If you previously published your DSPT at Approaching Standards (or Entry Level), you have to get to Standards Met in order to republish your DSPT. You cannot publish at Approaching Standards more than once It is a temporary arrangement to help you to get to Standards Met
Publishing your 2022/23 DSPT , it is still not too late - By completing your DSPT, you will provide evidence that you meet all of the minimum legislative requirements of the DPA and UK-GDPR as well as some cyber security best practice. Standards Met is the level that all care providers should be aiming for as it demonstrates that they also meet the health and social care data security standards
This webinar and interactive workshop will guide you step by step to completion and publication of your toolkit to standards met. The deadline for publishing your DSPT for 2022/22 is 30 June 2023.
This webinar is for care providers who have published before, and are reviewing and republishing their DSPT but don't worry if you have never published, we will help you keep up

Community Matron and Trusted Assessors Webinar
Tuesday 12th Sept: 2.00pm - 3.00pm - https://www eventbrite co uk/657592967267r
This session covers how the Trusted Assessors scheme works and how Community Matrons can support your Care Setting.
You will hear from two local Trusted Assessors who have extensive experience of working within Adult Social Care, they are independent and are part of the support offered by West Sussex Partners in Care They will explain how the scheme works and how this can benefit you as an Adult Social Care Provider We hope the scheme will extend to East Sussex, Brighton and Hove.
Trusted Assessor’ schemes are a national initiative designed to reduce delays when people are ready for discharge from hospital It is based on providers adopting assessments carried out by suitably qualified ‘Trusted Assessors’ working under a formal, written agreement Research has shown that delayed discharges can have a significant negative impact on people’s well-being There are also risks associated with premature or poorly planned discharges. Assessments and care planning can be undertaken by Trusted Assessor schemes in a way that meets both people’s needs and legal requirements on providers.
We will be joined by a local Community Matron who will be discussing how their role works in supporting and working alongside you to optimise treatment, Care and Support to those you care for
Community Matrons are highly skilled Senior Nurses, who help manage episodes of deterioration in the health of those you care for and prevent unnecessary hospital admissions. Their work ensures residents receive targeted, bespoke care, based on their individual needs. Not only is hospital capacity increased, those you care for are able to stay in the surroundings they are familiar with, avoiding the distress from a hospital admission

Single Assessment Framework
Wednesday 20th Sept: 2.30pm - 3.30pm - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/625205425257
Changes that CQC is implementing to their system of inspection and regulation
CQC is developing a new approach to regulation called a single assessment framework This applies to providers, local authorities and integrated care systems
They will continue to use:
● five key questions (safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led)
● four-point ratings scale (outstanding, good, requires improvement and inadequate).
Under each key question there are a set of topic areas and quality statements. The statements describe what good care looks like and will link to the regulations.
What will be different?
● Gathering evidence: CQC gather evidence to support their judgements in a variety of ways and at different times – not just through on-site inspections This means on-site inspections will support this activity, rather than being our primary way to collect evidence
● Frequency of assessments: They will no longer use a service's rating as the main driver when deciding when we next need to assess. Evidence we collect or information we receive at any time can trigger an assessment.
● Assessing quality: Judgements about quality will be made more regularly, instead of only after an inspection The assessments will be more structured and transparent, using evidence categories as part of the assessment framework and giving a score for what they find hoping to make their decisions about ratings clearer and easier to understand
The process will continue to be changed, refined and improved and our presentation will reflect this If you want to hear the latest information on how the single assessment framework will work and what you need to do to prepare, this webinar is a MUST.

Digital Health Checks
Digital Health Checks for over 40s in fight against he
r 40 in England will be sen bid to reduce heart disease
S health checks, which will also include an online health ire, will be launched next spring for people aged 40 to 74
million people will be eligible, with around one million cks expected to be carried out over the next four years
Social Care Secretary Steve Barclay said: “Thousands of ks and strokes could be prevented every year through simple cks, which could save lives and ease pressure on the NHS.”
digital check-up will mean people can do simple tests and advice from homes while reducing pressure on GP
The home blood test will check cholesterol levels with patients asked to take a blood pressure test at a pharmacy, alongside the online assessment covering details such as weight, height, diet, alcohol intake and exercise levels.
Results will be made available online with help available to anyone showing early signs of issues such as diabetes or heart disease, as well as referrals to weight-loss clinics or medication
The online questionnaire will be available via phone, tablet or computer and the Government believes each check will save 20 minutes of NHS time
This could play an important role in helping people live healthier for longer and saving lives in the coming years, while reducing pressure on the NHS
Professor Sir Nilesh Silemani - Cardiovascular disease is the 2nd biggest killer in England, affecting around 6 4m people
The Government says the new digital check will help to identify 200,000 people who could benefit from the use of statins, 30,000 cases of hypertension and prevent around 400 heart attacks and strokes over the first four years
Professor Sir Nilesh Samani, medical director at the British Heart Foundation, said: “This initiative will help to reach more people and encourage them to get their blood pressure and cholesterol levels checked so that, where necessary, healthcare professionals can work with them to manage their condition ”
“This could play an important role in helping people live healthier for longer and saving lives in the coming years, while reducing pressure on the NHS ”
Existing NHS health checks for people in the same age group take place face-to-face with a GP and concerns have been expressed that elderly people are not left behind if they struggle with technology
David Baines, vice chair of the Local Government Association, told The Times “Making more digital health checks available is a useful tool to detect certain illnesses but it should be treated as an addition to, not a replacement for, a h i l h lth h k ”

Security Centre
Cyber Advisor Scheme
The NCSC has launched a new Cyber that aims to help the UK’s SMEs with security advice.
The scheme, aimed at small organisations that lack in-house expertise, provides access to cost-effective advice and hands-on help to guard against the most common cyber attacks
Initially this advice will focus on the five technical controls set out in the government-backed Cyber Essentials certification scheme. And while organisations don’t need to be aiming for Cyber Essentials certification, the NCSC is confident that these controls mitigate the majority of high volume, low-skill cyber attacks
With a growing network of providers across the UK, you can find out more about the scheme or visit our Delivery Partner’s website to find a Cyber Advisor who can help you.
NCSC launch new Supply Chain Mapping Training
As part of the NCSC's Supply Chain Mapping guidance, we have launched two new e-learning packages
The packages have been created to help procurement specialists, risk owners and cyber security professionals to effectively manage risks across their supply chains.
Understanding who your suppliers are, what they provide and how they provide it will help you manage the cyber security risks that can arise

Infection Control (IPC) Champions Tra
Workforce: Nursing staff
Care homes with nursing which are struggling with finding and keepi interested to know that a nurse does not necessarily need to be on-s y - although this may not be the case for larger services.
Individual services need to demonstrate how they can safely meet people’s needs, especially if a nurse is not on-site, potentially with on-call arrangements or nurse associates/paramedics etc.
Care Quality Commission (CQC) ‘best practice’ guide for nursing in adult social care explains that there is no absolute requirement in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 for care homes with nursing to have a nurse on-site 24 hours a day
But providers must demonstrate that they appropriately and safely meet people’s needs with the staff they deploy.
And CQC would expect a good provider to be transparent with people using the service, their families and service commissioners if a nurse will not be on site 24/7.
You can download a Word version of Nursing in Adult Social Care: see section 12 – Does a care home with nursing have to have 24 hour nursing cover? from Information for providersCare Quality Commission
