CQC - Single Assessment Framework
CQC Changes to Inspection System
With the CQC's recent announcement regarding the upcoming rollout of the single assess commencing in late autumn, it is imperative for social care providers to make preparation assessment framework is designed to prioritise the aspects that hold significance to indi social care services, as well as their families.
At the core of this approach lies a comprehensive comprehension of the five fundamental questions – safety, effectiveness, compassion, responsiveness, and leadership – alongside the introduction of novel quality statements. These quality statements, also referred to as 'we' statements, outline the benchmarks for exemplary care and will be closely linked with the corresponding regulations
To ensure that you and your team grasp this novel methodology and can substantiate to the CQC your commitment to furnishing top-notch, person-centred care, we invite you to participate in our forthcoming presentation on the Single Assessment Framework.
Single Assessment Framework
Wednesday 20th Sept: 2.30pm - 3.30pm
https://www eventbrite co uk/e/625205425257
The event will cover changes that CQC is implementing to their system of inspection and regulation
CQC is developing a new approach to regulation called a single assessment framework This applies to providers, local authorities and integrated care systems
They will continue to use:
● five key questions (safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led)
● four-point ratings scale (outstanding, good, requires improvement and inadequate)
Under each key question there are a set of topic areas and quality statements The statements describe what good care looks like and will link to the regulations.
What will be different?
● Gathering evidence: CQC gather evidence to support their judgements in a variety of ways and at different times – not just through on-site inspections. This means on-site inspections will support this activity, rather than being our primary way to collect evidence
● Frequency of assessments: They will no longer use a service's rating as the main driver when deciding when we next need to assess Evidence we collect or information we receive at any time can trigger an assessment
● Assessing quality: Judgements about quality will be made more regularly, instead of only after an inspection The assessments will be more structured and transparent, using evidence categories as part of the assessment framework and giving a score for what they find hoping to make their decisions about ratings clearer and easier to understand.
The process will continue to be changed, refined and improved and our presentation will reflect this.
If you want to hear the latest information on how the single assessment framework will work and what you need

Gather - Digital Feedback
Considerations for administering surveys Considerations for administering surve
The Challenge:
Surveys - despite their importance to gain feedback from NOK, care receivers, pro are seldom undertaken, as they usually take considerable effort and give very poo
This is predominantly why so many businesses avoid conducting them, or do them once a year to tick a box for the CQC. Running a survey is seen as simple, but is actually very time consuming with much to consider.
Points to Consider:
The points you need to consider when undergoing a survey are the following:
1 Less Is More - Make it easy, don't drown the recipient in information or questions
The more questions you ask, the less chance you have of the recipient completing the feedback.
2 Make It Accessible - If communications are digital, you stand a better chance of not only getting to your audience, but them responding.
3 Only Ask Only Ask Actionable Questions - Only ask what you can do something about, i e don’t ask their age or gender if you’re not going to do anything with the information.
4 Allow For Anonymity - Insisting on contact details can lead to recipients not being honest with their opinions, or they just don't bother at all.
5 Trends And Demographics - Even if you have anonymity you can still look at trends within the demographic information, i.e. Department, Location, etc.
6 Be Digital - Paper based surveys whilst on the surface seem OK, and it does tick the box for those that are less technical, they need to be the last resort not the first. When you start applying hours taken on all of these activities, you will find you have invested an incredible amount of time, days, even weeks, getting paper-based surveys completed
Suggestion: We recommend you seek out technology to help reduce the administrational overhead, and by using a service that actually engages with the end-users, as opposed to endless pages of text and questions, you stand a much better chance of obtaining actual results and insights that you actually want
Gather, a new UK based company, can remove all of these problems by giving you easy, engaging, effective, effortless and highly cost-effective digital feedback capability. There are of course other suppliers but you can trial ‘Gather‘ for free by going to: www wegther info or email Team@wegather.info
Social Care Superpowers
The power to transform lives
I was so proud to launch Cygn #SocialCareSuperpower camp highlighting the incredible peop care services and who strive every day to make a positive difference to those in need of support
The campaign shines a spotlight on care colleagues with extraordinary skills who make a valuable difference to the lives of those they care for In my opinion, they are all superheroes, armed with remarkable superpowers. We would love social care workers from all organisations to join us in our celebrations and share their superpowers with us! What abilities do you possess which help you deliver care of the highest standards?
Working in social care is both challenging and hugely rewarding The work we do is pivotal, looking after the most vulnerable people in our society This is precisely why it takes a special kind of person to do it: a person who is kind, empathic, fun loving, dedicated, and who loves problem solving
In April this year, we announced the creation of two distinct health and social care divisions This campaign is a wonderful way to celebrate our social care services and colleagues I want their vital work to be shared widely and recognition given for the life-changing impact they have on our residents
I have worked in social care since 2009 and, so far, it’s been the best career decision I ever made My social care superpower is my ability to empower others and recognise the true value of their capabilities and future potential
Our communications team has been working closely with 6 members of staff, across different care settings, who have shared stories about social care careers, why they love the job they do and what they consider their superpower to be
Behold! Unrestricted Man!
Ollie White has worked in the care sector for more than a decade, starting his career as a support worker and rising through the ranks to become the Registered Manager of The Orchards, a Cygnet Social Care service in Essex, which supports men with learning disabilities and complex needs
For Ollie, the most rewarding part of his job is helping people succeed His social care superpower is being as unrestrictive as possible, empowering residents to make decisions about their own health and wellbeing

Community Matron and Trusted Assessors Webinar
Tuesday 12th Sept: 2.00pm - 3.00pm - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/6575929672
We cover how the Trusted Assessors scheme works & how Community Matrons
You will hear from two local Trusted Assessors who have extensive experience o Care, they are independent and are part of the support offered by West Sussex Partners in Care They will explain how the scheme works and how this can benefit you as an Adult Social Care Provider. We hope the scheme will extend to East Sussex, Brighton and Hove Trusted Assessor’ schemes are a national initiative designed to reduce delays when people are ready for discharge from hospital It is based on providers adopting assessments carried out by suitably qualified ‘Trusted Assessors’ working under a formal, written agreement Research has shown that delayed discharges can have a significant negative impact on people’s well-being There are also risks associated with premature or poorly planned discharges Assessments and care planning can be undertaken by Trusted Assessor schemes in a way that meets both people’s needs and legal requirements on providers
We will be joined by a local Community Matron who will be discussing how their role works in supporting and working alongside you to optimise treatment, Care and Support to those you care for.
Community Matrons are highly skilled Senior Nurses, who help manage episodes of deterioration in the health of those you care for and prevent unnecessary hospital admissions Their work ensures residents receive targeted, bespoke care, based on their individual needs Not only is hospital capacity increased, those you care for are able to stay in the surroundings they are familiar with, avoiding the distress from a hospital admission
Data Protection Impact Assessment & Data Security & Protection Toolkit
Wednesday 13th Sept: 2.30pm - 4.00pm - https://www eventbrite co uk/687144506717
In this session we will be looking at DPIA and DSPT. A DPIA is a process designed to help you systematically analyse, identify and minimise the data protection risks of a project or plan It is a key part of your accountability obligations under the UK GDPR, and when done properly helps you assess and demonstrate how you comply with all of your data protection obligations.
DPIAs are an essential part of your accountability obligations. Conducting a DPIA is a legal requirement for any type of processing, including certain specified types of processing that are likely to result in a high risk to the rights and freedoms of individuals Under UK GDPR, failure to carry out a DPIA when required may leave you open to enforcement action, including a fine of up to £8.7 million, or 2% global annual turnover if higher.
A DPIA must assess the level of risk, and in particular whether it is ‘high risk’ The UK GDPR is clear that assessing the level of risk involves looking at both the likelihood and the severity of the potential harm.
DSPT- The Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) is an online self-assessment tool to help adult social care providers in England store and share information safely. By completing your DSPT, you will provide evidence that you meet the minimum legislative requirements of the DPA and UK-GDPR as well as some cyber security best practice If you previously published your DSPT at Approaching Standards (or Entry Level), you have to get to Standards Met in order to republish your DSPT. You cannot publish at Approaching Standards more than once. It is a temporary arrangement to help you to get to Standards Met.

They will continue to use:
● five key questions (safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led)
● four-point ratings scale (outstanding, good, requires improvement and inadequate)
Under each key question there are a set of topic areas and quality statements The statements describe what good care looks like and will link to the regulations
What will be different?
● Gathering evidence: CQC gather evidence to support their judgements in a variety of ways and at different times – not just through on-site inspections This means on-site inspections will support this activity, rather than being our primary way to collect evidence.
● Frequency of assessments: They will no longer use a service's rating as the main driver when deciding when we next need to assess. Evidence we collect or information we receive at any time can trigger an assessment
● Assessing quality: Judgements about quality will be made more regularly, instead of only after an inspection The assessments will be more structured and transparent, using evidence categories as part of the assessment framework and giving a score for what they find. hoping to make their decisions about ratings clearer and easier to understand.
The process will continue to be changed, refined and improved and our presentation will reflect this If you want to hear the latest information on how the single assessment framework will work and what you need to do to prepare, this webinar is a MUST.

National Cyber Security Centre
The National Cyber Security Centre has issued an alert of an increased risk of cyber-attacks where systems are poorly protected and warn organisations to act now to manage the risk.
The NCSC recommends that organisations implement the measures described in actions to take when the cyber threat is heightened, particularly the NCSC advice on secure system administration. Larger organisations can use the Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF) to identify areas for improvement.
Our Chief Executive, Dr Jane Townson, raises awareness of the impact cyber-attacks have on adult social care providers in a new video for Better Security, Better Care
