Smugglers and pirates once ruled these shores, but Hastings is probably best known for a battle that took place over 950 years ago, between King Harold and William the Conqueror. Fast-forward to the present day, and you’ll find that Hastings is unlike any other town you have visited before. To the east of the town, is a glorious stretch of beach, which is home to Europe’s largest beach-launched fishing fleet. The UK’s largest funicular railway climbs the East Hill, to provide access to the old castle ruins and spectacular views across the town and English Channel. To the west, the famous

and award-winning Hastings Pier gives visitors the chance to experience open-air yoga and cinema, as well as the opportunity to try out a range of water sports and leisure activities such as kayaking, sailing, and stand-up paddle boarding.

In the middle of town, you’ll find Priory Meadow shopping centre, and our tall, iconic college campus, which has been welcoming students from all over the world for over 30 years.

“I really enjoyed learning English and improving my teaching skills. During my lessons I learned a lot and the teaching practice elements were good because it challenged me. All of the teachers were really professional, helpful, and really friendly. It was a pleasure to be part of their class. The most enjoyable part was being next to the sea and the opportunity to practise speaking English with nativespeakers.”

“The Educational system in my country is quite different in comparison with the United Kingdom. Students here, benefit from guest speakers, work experience, and trips that help you engage in your educational experience. This college also offers great facilities to ensure that everyone has enough equipment to do their work. We also have access to the LRC and HUB to complete our coursework. My tutors are fantastic! They make sure everyone in the class is engaged and understand the topic. If I need extra support with terminology, grammar, and spelling they are always ready to give me a hand. This college thinks everyone is important and has a friendly atmosphere. After this course I plan to study Accounting or Finance at University.”

“When I arrived in Hastings, I remember being amazed by the building and all the facilities at the college. Each week I studied English for 16 hours, generally in the mornings, and joined my chosen A-Level subjects in the afternoon. My English tutor was really nice and helped me a lot with spelling and grammar, as well as my speaking and pronunciation. I really enjoyed studying A-Levels alongside other students from the UK. Everyone made me feel really welcome and I settled in really quickly. I’m so grateful to the college because they arranged for me to travel up to Warwick University to attend an Open Day so I could find out more about studying medicine. I’m hoping to come back to the UK to go to University.”

“At first I was anxious about moving to Hastings. I didn’t know anyone, but after two years of being here it felt like home. I didn’t know much about Hastings before coming here but the space, atmosphere, and lifestyle has influenced my illustration work. The tutor contact time I received was invaluable. The tutors give everything to support you and feedback on your work. We even had the opportunity to try things across the Art and Design department, including pottery, textiles and ceramics. These are things I would never have tried at a bigger University campus. I entered a competition run by the Victoria and Albert Museum and was shortlisted in the top 5, out of 320 entries! I’m attending the awards ceremony soon.”
