Jackie Henderson and Philip Raskin 2 Person Exhibition
Jackie Henderson
Since graduating in Contemporary Art Practice in 2014, Jackie Henderson has dedicated herself to a full-time career as an artist, following years of working in various creative roles. Art has always been a central part of her life, and her work is deeply autobiographical, drawing constant inspiration from her surroundings and translating them into unique, quirky observations.
Jackie’s paintings explore a variety of subjects, each capturing moments from everyday life with a focus on texture and form. Her still life studies encourage a deeper appreciation of the present, reminding us to value the world around us. Her landscapes reflect the fishing towns and rural environments that have been a significant part of her life, while her figurative pieces are personal reflections, rich with emotion and meaning. Many of these works are influenced by the Glasgow Art School sisters, Frances and Margaret MacDonald, whose style and vision continue to inspire her.
Working predominantly in acrylics, Jackie builds her compositions through layers of paint and glaze, rubbing back the surface to reveal underlying colors and textures—making what lies beneath just as significant as what is visible. She enhances her work further by imprinting lace and delicate textiles into a gesso base and incorporating collage elements.
Combined with her signature muted, soft palettes, these techniques give her paintings a calming, tranquil quality that draws viewers into her world.

Philip Raskin
Born in 1947, Philip studied at the Glasgow School of Art in the 1960s. However, following the untimely passing of his father, he left art school to pursue a career in business, where he remained for the next 30 years. For two decades, he was the well-known proprietor of The Inn on the Green, a celebrated jazz restaurant in Glasgow. Despite his time in the business world, Philip stayed connected to the arts by curating exhibitions and hosting openings at the venue.
In the 1990s, he returned to painting full-time, quickly establishing himself as a highly successful artist with wide appeal. Now working from his studio just outside Glasgow, Philip has developed a distinctive style, instantly recognizable for its bold impasto techniques paired with delicate, expressive brushwork. His work is deeply inspired by the landscapes of Scotland’s west coast, where he masterfully captures the rugged shorelines, dramatic seascapes, and ever-changing skies.
“I tend to paint very private places for the viewer to own and enjoy. No people, no houses, no telegraph poles; just expansive skies, mist tumbling on a distant hillside and a silence broken only by lapping water and gulls ascending”.

Blythe Scott
Blythe Scott is a Scottish artist known for her vibrant and expressive paintings, filled with energy, texture, and rich layers of detail.
Originally from Scotland, she spent many years living and working overseas before recently returning to her home country. Her work is a celebration of the world around her, drawing inspiration from architecture, landscape, and personal memories to create pieces that are both uplifting and deeply engaging.
Blythe’s paintings are a fusion of imagination, feeling and reality, where recognisable places are transformed through her distinctive use of colour, pattern, and texture. Whether depicting lively cityscapes, coastal scenes, or rolling countryside, her work radiates warmth and vitality. She works in a variety of media, skillfully layering paint, collage, and mixed materials to build depth and dimension. This approach allows her to create dynamic surfaces where light, movement, and intricate details come to life.
Her art offers viewers a glimpse into her perspective, where everyday scenes are transformed into something extraordinary. With a background in both fine art and design, Blythe carefully constructs her compositions, blending structure with spontaneity. Her ability to combine realistic elements with a sense of imagination results in works that feel both familiar and otherworldly, evoking a sense of joy, nostalgia, and wonder.
Now back in Scotland, she continues to evolve her practice, creating works that reflect her artistic journey and passion for self-expression.
“This diverse collection of my work is representative of the breadth of subject matter and media that I return to most frequently. Whether I am moved to paint the coast, countryside or cities, I will rarely be content to use just one medium. All of these paintings are connected by their palette, use of texture and mixed media. A sense of movement is tangible in all of the pieces too which is my way of expressing the life and visual drama of the locations as well as my strength of feeling for them. If it is possible that their surface can be appreciated in person, I also hope that the viewer will find that a rewarding experience. Most of all though, I hope that people will find these pieces uplifting.”
