‘Alison Cowan Solo Exhibition’
7th to 29th June
We’re delighted to bring to you a Solo Exhibition of over 40 new works by Alison Cowan, one of our most popular and recognisable gallery artists.
Painting in and around Glasgow for many years, Alison is well-known for her bold use of colour and rich, heavily-textured surfaces. Her dramatic, vibrant paintings never fail to capture attention and truly come to life when viewed in person. Photographs rarely capture the full impact of her work, which is why this exhibition is always best appreciated in the gallery.
If you’re drawn to art that brings a vivid burst of colour and a distinctive, expressive style, this is a show well worth seeing and we look forward to welcoming you to the gallery soon.

Best wishes, Scott, Susan and the Annan Gallery Team Exhibition from 7th June to 29th June

Alison Cowan
Born in 1955, Alison studied at Glasgow School of Art in the mid-1970s before going on to teach in Ayrshire, Glasgow, and North Lanarkshire. She later pursued her art career full-time, living and working in Glasgow’s West End before relocating to Uddingston, where she’s now based.
Her work has been exhibited both locally and nationally, and is held in private collections around the world.
“My paintings are semi-abstract and impasto, inspired by the environment but not tied to specific locations. I focus on bold colour, strong composition, and heavy texture to create depth and atmosphere. Using palette knives instead of brushes, I build layers of thick paint to form rich, tactile surfaces.
Trees are a recurring subject - endlessly fascinating in their form, texture, and seasonal transformation. Their shapes, colours, and interplay with light evoke something magical and spiritual for me. Through vibrant, jewel-like tones and layered textures, I aim to capture the mystery and beauty of woodland landscapes.”
