WELCOME FROM ADAM WEIR

SURF LIFE SAVING AUSTRALIA CEO

It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to the 2025 Shaw and Partners Coolangatta Gold.

For over four decades, the Coolangatta Gold has remained one of Australia’s most iconic sporting challenges. The legacy of this event is built on passion, resilience and the unbreakable spirit of those who take it on.

Now in its 41st year, we’re proud to introduce some exciting changes that will shape a bold new chapter in the race’s history. This year, we’ve refreshed our courses, introducing the Coolangatta Gold 25.6, the Coolangatta Sprint and the Coolangatta Dash.

These updates have been carefully designed to offer new challenges and create a more inclusive experience for all competitors, while preserving the unique character and toughness that define this event.

We will also see every athlete from the Shaw and Partners Iron Series competing this year, bringing an exceptional level of talent and intensity to the course. These athletes continue to inspire the next generation of competitors, and we look forward to seeing them take part.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Shaw and Partners Financial Services, Tourism & Events Queensland, Experience Gold Coast and all of our event partners for their ongoing support.

I extend my gratitude also to all the volunteers, officials, safety personnel, support crews and staff for all that they do to make this a great event for our athletes and spectators.

Finally, to all competitors, congratulations on making it here and good luck with the opportunity that lies ahead. This event has an incredibly special place in our history, and you are now a part of that story. Take the time to enjoy this experience and I hope you relish the occasion.

Here’s to a safe, spirited and unforgettable Shaw and Partners Coolangatta Gold in 2025.

WELCOME FROM THE CITY OF GOLD COAST MAYOR

When it comes to iconic events steeped in history, it’s hard to go past the Shaw and Partners Coolangatta Gold.

41 years of history, heartache, triumph and celebration. Just like the 1984 movie of the same name, The Gold has been a story of hardship, human endeavour, mateship, sacrifice and true grit.

The Gold Coast is a major events city and when it comes to attracting the cream of Australian surf lifesaving and ironmen and ironwomen, nothing eclipses The Gold.

This race is the benchmark for international ocean racing with visitors from across Australia, and across The Ditch, all chasing the elusive men’s and women’s crowns.

Hosting The Gold has been in our city’s DNA for decades and I applaud Surf Life Saving Australia, Experience Gold Coast and Shaw and Partners Financial Services for making it happen.

This year for the first time, events have been redesigned to attract more entrants as well as aligning the main race with the annual Iron Series for elite athletes. The aim is to lure more spectators to the sidelines as elite competitors rotate through a range of surf disciplines as well as transition runs between each leg.

As Mayor, I wish sponsors, officials and entrants success and look forward to seeing who will be crowned the 2025 men’s and women’s champions.

To competitors, families, and support staff… when the racing is done and won, please stay on a little longer and enjoy everything our great city has to offer. It’s a fantastic time of the year so make the most of it.

Message from the Minister for Environment and Tourism and the Minister for Science and Innovation,

THE HONOURABLE ANDREW POWELL MP

It’s a pleasure to welcome you to the Shaw and Partners Coolangatta Gold, an event that truly captures the character and charm of the Gold Coast

Supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland’s Destination Events Program, this event showcases the unique connection between our state’s vibrant communities and the diverse regions they call home.

Events like the Shaw and Partners Coolangatta Gold bring people together, celebrate local culture and contribute significantly to the community’s pride and economy.

While you’re here, I encourage you to explore all that the Gold Coast Region has to offer—whether it’s its scenic beauty, local flavours, or the warm hospitality that makes this part of Queensland so special.

A big congratulations to the organisers and everyone who worked hard to bring this wonderful event to life. Thank you for being part of the thriving Queensland Destination Events Program.

Held over the weekend of Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th October, the Shaw and Partners Coolangatta Gold will return for 2025 bigger, faster and more exciting than ever, with a prize-pool worth over $170,000.

In an exciting new development, all athletes from the Shaw and Partners Iron Series will race in the Coolangatta Gold, with the country’s fittest and fastest athletes competing for Series points as well as prize money. In another shake up to the traditional race, competitors will compete on refreshed race courses, designed to attract more participants to the event. As in recent years, the race will continue to start and finish on the iconic Coolangatta Beach.

2025 will see the introduction of the Shaw and Partners Coolangatta Gold 25.6 , the Coolangatta Sprint , and the Coolangatta Dash . Each race has been designed to keep the action centered around Coolangatta Beach, making it ideal for live spectators and broadcast audiences, and with repeated soft sand transitions, competitors will be pushed to their limits in high-intensity surf conditions.

The 25.6km course is a test of grit, endurance and versatility – ski, swim, board and run, with relentless soft sand transitions that will challenge even the best. Each leg is followed by a grueling 500m soft sand run transition.

A course designed to deliver the full surf sports experience in about an hour, the 12.5km Coolangatta Sprint is a high-paced, high-impact race for the everyday endurance athlete looking for their next challenge.

It mirrors the 25.6 in design, with a 7km ski, 1km swim, 2km board, 2 x 500m transitions and a 1.5km run to finish, all through the Coolangatta surf zone.

A spin on the classic surf lifesaving competency fitness test, the Coolangatta Dash takes the Bronze Medallion’s Run-Swim-Run to the next level. It’s a 3.25km total distance race, with two short beach runs and a 1km ocean swim in the middle.

SEE YOU DOWN AT COOLANGATTA BEACH ON OCTOBER 18 & 19!
