SPRING RETURN DEADMAN HANDLE FOR QUARTER TURN VALVES KI SERIES

Spring Return Handle provides unassisted opening or closing of manually operated quarter turn valves. The Spring Return Handle, driven by a powerful, completely enclosed torsion spring, automatically returns the valve to the desired fully-open or fully-closed position when released. Automatic valve repositioning is a convenience and safety feature for filling, sampling, or dispensing applications. The automatic repositioning is ideal as a safety feature in manual emergency conditions. It is ruggedly constructed to meet the demanding requirements of rapid and repetitive operations. Unless specified otherwise, valve/handle assemblies will be furnished for spring-to-close operation.

FUSIBLE LINK EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN QUARTER TURN VALVES

Valves designed with fire control in mind are crucial to any piping system carrying flammable fluids or gases. Our spring actuated assemblies are designed to fail-close when a fire breaks out, halting the flow which may be adding to or compounding the fire intensity. Valves on the deluge system can be activated to fail-open when heat is sensed, immediately flooding the area with water.

Our fusible link assembly provides the ideal fire protection solution. Designed to melt when environmental heat reaches a predetermined setting, the fusible link separates and allows the spring to drive the valve into the fail-open or fail-closed position. The fire sensitive unit mounts directly onto a quarter turn valve and can be manually operated when required. Unless specified otherwise, spring assemblies will be furnished for spring-to-close operation.

The spring module is completely enclosed for maximum safety and the fusible link is mounted externally for environmental sensitivity. The spring actuated assemblies can be retrofitted to many existing valves and are fully field-adjustable. Optional limit switches are available for remote indication of open or closed positions. Typical applications for these units can be found in paint plants, chemical, or hydrocarbon processing facilities.

Flowturn 3-way valves provide lateral diverting flow from a common inlet to either side exit with a quarter turn, alternatively diverting flow from a single source to two different lines. The valve is a Transflow-Diverting type, so the possibility of completely stopping flow during port positioning is eliminated. However, this also means probable product mixing during a portion of the port change. Care must be taken at a blocked port not to exceed that of the flowing media by more than 1723 kPa (250 psi), or temperature at the blocked port not to exceed flowing media more than 93°C (200ºF). The valves are designed for flow either into or out of the common side port.

These valves are 90 degree turn, side entry, available in reduced and full port.

BOTTOM ENTRY 180 DEGREE OPERATION

Vertical Flow Diverting Valve is designed to accept media through the bottom (inlet port) and to direct the product out to either of the two side ports. With this configuration, the flow can be shut off by simply operating the valve 90 degrees; however, there is no stop arrangement for this position. These valves are versatile and are designed for flow either into or out of the common bottom port.

The 3L-3200 is a Non-Transflow Valve, as flow will be blocked at the 90 degree point of rotation. This also means no mixing of products during valve port position change. The valve requires 180 degree rotation with line flow shut off at the inlet or bottom port with 90 degree rotation, and full diverter flow to opposite port resuming with 180 degree rotation.

MATERIALS LIST

Valves can be automated as an actuator can be mounted over the valve stem - which is directly over the inlet port of the valve. It is important to note that the valve requires 180 degree actuation.

Ball valves normally have a space between the ball and inside body which could trap product. Care should always be taken to properly drain this cavity.

Flowturn PB Series Ball Valves, with their rugged compact design, offer positive shut off or directional control of fluids in process, power and instrumentation applications. The unique design ensures excellent sealing characteristics while accomodating a superior temperature range and cycle life.

A high integrity metal to metalbonnet anti ingress seal ensures leak tightness at high pressures. These valves are available in two-way and multi-way configurations in brass, 316 stainless steel, Monel and Inconel construction, with a wide variety of port connections. A trunnion mounted version is available for higher pressures.

SPECIFICATIONS

Also refer to pressure temperature ratings of elastomers (such as Viton and Buna) and the overall pressure rating of the valve design itself, can reduce the pressure temperature rating of the valve.

CONSIDERATIONS OF TECHNICAL RISK / LIMIT OF LIABILITY TO CLIENT FOR BALL VALVES

Australian Pipeline Valve don’t consider in our design the following factors of risk:

1. Australian Pipeline Valve Flowturn ‘Standard’ ball valves can be used in a temperature range between -28.8 to +200°C. (Note, pressure limitations apply above 38°C refer to Pressure/Temperature charts.) For service temperatures below -28.8°C ball valve construction materials shall be submitted to an impact test at the minimum service temperature. For temperatures outside of the range of -28.8°C to +200°C ball valves have to be provided with seats, seals and body material able to withstand the temperature degree required.

2. The onus is on the customer to specify all materials of construction and service conditions. Australian Pipeline Valve shall assume standard materials and conditions if not otherwise specified.

3. Australian Pipeline Valve Flowturn ‘Standard’ ball valves are not equipped with devices suitable to avoid internal over-pressures caused by incorrect operations of process or by-fluids & liquids subjected to an increase of volume and/or pressure (these devices, such as the over-pressure hole in the ball or safety seats are available upon request).

4. Australian Pipeline Valve Flowturn ‘Standard’ ball valves are not designed with special devices to withstand a sudden thermal jump (thermal shock).

5. In general Australian Pipeline Valve Flowturn ‘Standard’ ball valves are not mechanically designed to bear overloads due to exceptional atmospheric or natural phenomenon’s (such as earthquakes).

6. In general Australian Pipeline Valve Flowturn ‘Standard’ ball valves are not designed to bear loads on flanges, on pipe connections or pipeline.

7. In general Australian Pipeline Valve Flowturn ‘Standard’ ball valves can’t withstand ice inside their bodies (in this case user must specify the optional stem extension for insulating, avoiding the presence of residual product inside the valve).

8. Australian Pipeline Valve Flowturn ‘Standard’ ball valves are not suitable for low temperature service below -29°C (-20°F) unless provided with cryogenic stem extension and other modifications (available on request).

9. Australian Pipeline Valve Flowturn ‘Standard’ ball valves are suitable for ‘industrial’ oxygen (not medical) service when supplied degreased and packed in polyethylene bags only.

10. The compatibility between ball valves construction materials and medium is selected by the user. The user is ultimately responsible for verifying the compatibility between medium and materials.

11. Abrasive or dirty service, high temperature service, low temperature service, firesafe, vacuum service, near zero pressure service and other special applications should be clearly stated when requesting quotation.

12. Australian Pipeline Valve Flowturn valves are not firesafe or anti-static unless stated.

BALL VALVE START-UP

Before installing the ball valve onto the pipe-line it is mandatory for the user to verify the compatibility of the ball valve with service conditions (medium, temperature and pressure). With reference to standard ball valves held in stock the reseller and end user will have to assure themselves of the compatibility with the use of conditions required by the customer. Australian Pipeline Valve ball valves must be only used for on-off (fully open/fully closed) service.

Before using the ball valve in a potential explosive atmosphere it’s necessary: -

• To verify the compatibility between the ball valve and the zone in which the ball valve should be installed.

• To foresee the pipe-line ground condition on which the ball valve should be installed.

• To check that the temperature of the ball valve surface is not higher than the flammable point of the atmosphere in which the ball valve is installed (in this case specify an insulating cover device for the valve and an extension for the wrench)

• Before installing ball valves with welding ends to make sure that the process of welding is carried out in accordance with all the safety requirements of the classified zone.

• To avoid mechanical knocks during the installation that may cause sparks.

LIQUIDS WITH HIGH FLUID VELOCITY

When ball valves are to be utilised on liquids with very high velocity, check with the valve distributor or manufacturer for appropriate advice to minimise the possibility of seat deformation, especially when they are highly pressurised on high temperature line.

THROTTLING SERVICE Ball valves are not recommended for throttling service, as both the fluid flow and the leading edge of the ball can damage or deform the resilient ball seats causing leakage. High fluid velocity or the presence of solid particles in suspension will further reduce seat life in throttling applications.

• Do not open the bonnet or cap when bearing pressure. Valve is not equipped with pressure access device. User should check it by other method through it’s piping system.

• Do not touch the surface of the valve on high temperature.

• Not allowed for unstable fluid, otherwise specified with category III in Declaration of conformity or/and in this user manual

• Lock design on the handle to avoid the valve operated by non-related people is optional requested by the user.
