The new Hollywood Arts Hub now holds the unique architectural distinction in Broward County of having adjoining, functional spaces built 101 years apart. It includes a 110-seat Arts Auditorium, a multi-purpose room for dance, drama, artist talks, film screenings, meeting space and more, the Create More Art Studio, the Digital Media Lab and the outdoor Imagine Courtyard. This building will be a visual landmark in Downtown Hollywood, drawing residents and visitors to The Center.
The distinctly dramatic and contemporary design by award-winning architectural firm, Brooks + Scarpa, merges with the existing two-story, historic 1924 Mediterranean Revival architecture of the Kagey Home, which houses The Center galleries and administrative offices located at 1650 Harrison Street, Hollywood, Florida 33020 just one block from ArtsPark at Young Circle.
Construction of the Arts Hub was funded by the City of Hollywood through dedicated funding from the 2019 General Obligation Bond that was approved by City voters in a special election. The Pirtle Construction team broke ground on April 30, 2024 and met the opening deadline as planned.
“The City of Hollywood proudly sup ports art and culture in our city, and this expansion of The Center is a tremendous milestone,” said City of Hollywood Mayor Josh Levy. “People of all ages and back grounds can experience the arts at this new venue year-round, adding to the number of amazing experiences that can be found in Hollywood.”
The new Hollywood Arts Hub is built for ongoing learning and exploration. As part of its grand opening, The Center debuted a full lineup of new fall programs including Early Voices, storytelling and artmaking for young children every Saturday; Moms & Masterpieces, weekday program for parents and caregivers to explore the galleries and engage in Meet the Masters artmaking for bigs and littles; Art Workshops, multiple session workshops offered monthly by teaching artists in a variety of mediums; Group Tours, weekly daytime arts program for adults to explore a variety of forms; and Homeschool Programs, new offerings designed for flexible learning through STEAM integration.

“Elders Of Zion 2.0” - Antisemitic ‘Tired Islam’ Conspiracy Takes Root On Social Media
Tel Aviv – CyberWell, a NonProfit trusted partner of Meta (Facebook, Instagram and Threads), TikTok and YouTube, focused on combating online antisemitism, has identified and flagged a rapidly growing Arabic-language conspiracy theory known as “Tired Islam.” Born entirely on Social Media, the narrative falsely claims that a Jewish or “Zionist” author named Jacob Dunne published a book titled “The Tired Islam,” outlining a secret plan to dismantle Arab and Muslim society from within. In reality, no such book exists in the U.S. Library of Congress or elsewhere, yet this fabricated claim has become central to the narrative’s viral spread.
“This trend is a modern-day digital replica of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. It revives century-old religious antisemitism, tailored to go viral on today’s platforms,” said CyberWell Founder and CEO Tal-Or Cohen Montemayor. “The narrative pushes the same antisemitic tropes that have historically led to mass violence against Jews, now wrapped in a pseudointellectual setting to appear credible and urgent.”
Videos promoting the conspiracy often feature a series of fabricated bullet-point “excerpts” from a fictional chapter titled “The End of the Arabs.” These include false claims that Jews aim to destroy Muslim society by promoting feminism, moral decay, attacking mosques, eroding family values and using technology to distract and dominate Muslim youth. The videos also display imagined publication details, such as “Volume 7, 4th Edition, 2011” and falsely state that the text is stored in the Library of Congress. The narrative frequently concludes by calling viewers to treat the video as a religious and moral obligation to share.
In many instances, the “Tired Islam” narrative is paired with or presented as a continuation of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, reinforcing the illusion of a long-standing Jewish blueprint for global
domination. Some users explicitly frame the conspiracy as a hidden truth being implemented in real time, directly linking Jewish identity to the alleged moral and spiritual decline of Muslim communities.
“Digital platforms are facing a moment of reckoning due to the continued poisoning and abuse of the information economy. Antisemitic actors are using the virality of misinformation to inject age-old conspiracies into religious and political discourse. The fact that this narrative is being promoted as a ‘religious’ imperative makes it especially difficult to moderate and even more dangerous,” said Cohen Montemayor.
“We are watching, in real time, the formation of new Protocols; but unlike 1903, this time the digital platforms governing content through Trust & Safety can still stop it before it spreads beyond control.”
Despite clear violations of hateful conduct policies, promoting classic antisemitic tropes and stereotypes about Jews and ulterior conspiracies, Social Media platforms are consistently failing to intervene against this harmful modern conspiracy theory. In multiple escalation cases from CyberWell, platforms concluded that the content did not violate community standards, illustrating that the platforms do not have a consistent policy around citation of anonymous or forged texts.

Celebrating A New Season
By
As we kick off the Holiday Season it is great to see many of our friends back in Hallandale Beach and the surrounding area. We know that many of our businesses, old and new, have been looking forward to the winter season. We encourage our residents to check out the many restaurants and entertainment venues. In the North area of our city we had many new restaurants open in Atlantic Village. Roasters N’ Toasters has opened in the old Mo’s Deli location. Further east along the Dixie corridor District 8 also has new additions that also include art studios, karate, new coffee spots with more to come. During construction, we have set up free parking along with a shuttle. Just last week, I attended a ribbon cutting by our very own Hallandale Beach Chamber for a brand new restaurant on Foster Road. We have not had a new restaurant open in the neighborhood for quite a long time. Poochellos Savory Soul Restaurant located at 889 Foster Road.
The owner and his fiance have chosen Hallandale Beach as their new home. With dishes named like Hallandale High Sweet Ham and Carver Ranches Get Down the restaurant beacons back to the owner’s High School days and a homage to a new chapter in their lives with a vision to the future of Foster Road. In addition, their ribs and Mac and Cheese are amazing.
During our last commission meeting Commissioner Butler brought up our Uber partnership. For our readers that are unaware we have a program that provides a free 10 dollar Voucher for any ride originating in Hallandale Beach to our local Hallandale Beach business. Many cities offer Freebee. We did a pilot for a few months but there were not many takers. This made the cost per trip too high. We ended up doing the program which has been somewhat successful.
We have agreed to have staff continue the program but have expanded it for trips outside of the city that is coming to one of our businesses. Patrons that want to leave
the driving to us can sign up on our website for the voucher. Dr. Earle also added that we will be going out again for an RFP for more micro transit options.
Ministerial Alliance. The Ahmidiyya Muslim Community of our Bait-un-Naseer Mosque also gave out free turkeys. Giving many of our residents even more to be thankful for. PAL is hosting the Annual Shop with a COP. They are always looking for donations to help the children in our city. Visit them on Facebook at Hallande Beach PAL. Hope for the Holidays is always a great way to help those in need. On Wednesday, December 10th, I will be hosting alongside Smatt’s Tennis, a Round Robin Tournament and Bagel brunch. Admission is a minimum donation of $30 dollars and an unwrapped toy. You can sign up at Golden Isles Tennis Center
Enjoy Thanksgiving And Keep Safety In Mind
As families prepare for their Thanksgiving feast, Fire Safety isn’t always top of mind. Still, the National Fire Protection Association reports that Thanksgiving remains the number one day for home cooking fires. With busy kitchens, guests coming and going, and kids helping with holiday prep, it’s important to stay alert. The City of Hollywood Department of Fire Rescue and Beach Safety encourages everyone to keep these NFPA safety tips in mind to help protect loved ones throughout the holiday.
• Stay in the kitchen when cooking on the stovetop so you can watch what you’re preparing.
• If you’re roasting a turkey, remain at home and check it often.
• Keep children at least three feet away from hot stoves.
• Use caution around hot foods and liquids. Steam and splashes from vegetables, gravy or coffee can cause severe burns.
• Keep floors clear of toys, bags and anything that could cause someone to trip.
• Store knives, appliance cords, matches and lighters out of children’s reach.
• Never leave candles burning unattended.
• Make sure smoke alarms are working and take a moment to test them.
• More holiday Fire Safety tips are available at: www.nfpa.org/Thanksgiving.

Florida Launches Operation Senior Shield To Protect Older Adults From Scams And Exploitation
Last week, Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins and Florida Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA) Secretary Michelle Branham announced the launch of Operation Senior Shield (OSS), a new, statewide initiative designed to protect older Floridians from the growing threat of scams, fraud and financial exploitation.
Operation Senior Shield provides older adults, caregivers and families with fast, free scam alerts, enhanced statewide coordination with law enforcement and critical tools to stay informed and secure. This initiative reflects Florida’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding its rapidly growing senior population while simultaneously empowering them to recognize and quickly respond to threats.
Lieutenant Governor Collins highlighted the importance of swift and aggressive action, stating, “Our seniors have spent their lives serving their families and communities, and they deserve to be protected from criminals who target them. Operation Senior Shield is our answer to that threat and a mission to keep seniors safe. Too many older Floridians are being targeted by scammers, and it is time to push back and take this fight directly to them.”
Lieutenant Governor Collins continued, “With real-time alerts, a statewide fraud strike team and tools that help seniors recognize scams before they happen, we are putting the power back in their hands. Florida is not an easy target on my watch. I am grateful to Secretary Branham and Governor DeSantis for backing this effort as we work to protect the people who mean so much to our state.”
Secretary Michelle Branham emphasized the personal impact of this exploitation and the urgency behind the new program. “As a state, we recognize how serious – and how personal – this issue is for so many Florida families,” said
Secretary Branham. “When a senior is targeted or exploited, it doesn’t just affect their bank account – it shakes their dignity, their confidence, and their sense of security. I’ve seen firsthand what that looks like for someone I love,
and it stays with you. That is why Operation Senior Shield means so much to me. We are taking decisive action to push back, stay ahead of these criminals and give our seniors the protection and peace of mind they deserve.”
A free alert system delivering timely, critical information on scams circulating in Florida and across the nation. Seniors and caregivers will receive advanced notice of threats before scammers reach their door, inbox, or phone.
Statewide Fraud Strike Team:
A specialized, multi-disciplinary team comprised of cybersecurity experts, law enforcement, state agencies, community leaders and a senior representative. This team will work collaboratively to share intelligence, proactively raise awareness, and respond quickly to emerging threats.
Education & Prevention Tools:
Easy-to-understand resources and engaging, hands-on experiences, including innovative “scam the scammers” exercises. Under guidance from ethical hackers and cybersecurity experts, seniors will learn how schemes work in a safe environment, gaining the confidence and skills to recognize and stop scams before they take hold.
Operation Senior Shield also encourages all Floridians to actively engage in the effort: talk to the seniors in your life, review suspicious emails or calls together, and share the alerts with family, neighbors, and community groups. These important conversations help protect more seniors and strengthen relationships across the state. Florida continues to lead the nation in protecting older adults. With Operation Senior Shield, seniors are safer, empowered, and supported – and scammers are on notice.
