Stop Medicare Fraud Before It Starts

(Dr. Mehmet Oz, Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) When I took on the role of leading Medicare, one of my primary goals was to crush the chronic fraud, waste, and abuse in the program. Ensuring that taxpayer dollars are used responsibly and that Medicare resources remain available for those who depend on them is a top priority.

People with Medicare are at the very heart of this effort. Scammers are after your Medicare number to submit false claims for services that were never provided, or for services that are not needed. These fraudulent actions do more than just drain government funds. They can also compromise your personal medical records, potentially affecting the care you need.

Medicare fraud costs American taxpayers billions of dollars every year. By staying vigilant and protecting your Medicare information, you can help stop fraud before it starts.

Together We can Crush Fraud

To protect yourself, follow these steps:

1. GuardYour Medicare card like you would a credit card or your Social Security number.

2. NEVER share your Medicare information with anyone who calls, texts, emails or shows up at your door uninvited. Scammers may pretend to be from Medicare or act like salespeople. Remember: Medicare will never contact you before you contact them.

3. Be skeptical of “free” gifts, “free” medical services, discount packages or any offer - If it sounds too good to be true, it absolutely is!

4. Check your Medicare claims statements to make sure that all services listed are the ones that you received. Also, check for fraud red flags like being billed twice for the same service.

5. Report suspicious activity immediately by calling: 1-800-MEDICARE.

Be Aware of This Growing Scam Fraudsters posing as salespeople are targeting older Americans, attempting to enroll them in hospice care without their knowledge or consent. They often go door to door, offering so-called “free” services

like cooking, cleaning, medical equipment, or even protein shakes. This is all as a cover to get you to sign paperwork. Don’t do it. Your health care decisions should always be made between you and your doctor, not a salesperson.

Protecting your Medicare isn’t just about saving money, it’s also about safeguarding your health and the integrity of a system we all depend on. Stay vigilant, stay informed, and together we’ll stop these criminals in their tracks. With your help, we can crush Medicare fraud.

To learn more, visit: www.Medicare.gov/fraud. To report potential fraud, call: 1 (800) MEDICARE. Call: 1 (800) 633-4227.

Big Adventures, Bright Vibes

Fresh Ride, Bright Vibe: Your Ride. Your Space. Your Community.

Every Sunday morning, 10-year-old Ethan jumps out of bed a little faster than usual. He knows it’s not just any day; it’s “Grandma Day.”

For the past year, Ethan and his grandmother Rachel have made it a tradition to ride the bus together every Sunday. It’s their shared ritual: no rush, no screens, no distractions. Just the two of them, discovering new corners of Broward County one route at a time.

Sometimes it’s a visit to the park for kite flying and ice cream. Other times it’s a trip to the library, a stop at the local

market, or even an afternoon exploring nature at a community center. The destinations change, but the feeling stays joyful, relaxed, and connected.

“The ride is part of the adventure,” says Grandma Rachel. “And for me, it’s also a way to keep moving, keep social, and share time with my grandson without worrying about driving or parking.”

As a senior, Rachel rides with a reduced fare, which helps stretch his budget. She’s also grateful for the thoughtful design of the buses, which have low floors, accessible seating, and drivers who greet her with a smile and

lend a hand when needed.

For Ethan, the bus is magical. He loves watching the city roll by, choosing the “best” seat, and announcing their next stop. “It’s like we’re going on a mini vacation every Sunday,” he says. “And Grandma lets me pick the route.”

Their favorite trip? “The one where we went to the farmers market, tried dragon fruit for the first time, and rode back home just in time to catch the sunset.”

Ron laughs, remembering the day.

“It was a great ride. The bus was cool, clean, and quiet. We were tired, but happy. It’s something we look forward to every

week.”

At BCT, we believe public transit should be more than just transportation; it should be a fresh experience that makes daily life better for every age.

Whether you’re a grandparent creating memories or a kid with a curious heart, there’s a seat for you on board. Fresh Ride. BrightVibe.

3 Essentials for Aging Well A Holistic Approach from Belmont Village

Don’t we all wish to know the secret to aging well? While there may not be a single secret to a long-lived, healthy life there are a few lifestyle elements we should all keep in mind. At Belmont Village Aventura, opening in early 2026, residents will find everything they need for maintaining a healthy lifestyle right at their fingertips. In collaboration with renowned developer Turnberry, Belmont Village Aventura is reimagining senior living in Aventura through innovative design and award-winning programming.

Backed by nearly 25 years of experience and research, Belmont Village recently shared three tips for aging well in mind, body and soul.

3 Essentials for Aging Well MIND

Brains, like bodies, need a daily workout. Good brain health helps build neuroconnections and cognitive reserve to draw on as we age. You can build cognitive

reserve by learning something new or doing something that’s a mental stretch each day. For example, read an article and discuss it, do a crossword puzzle, or explore an interest you’ve always wanted to.

Using the mind and body together has even more benefit--dancing is perfect, as are sports and activities with strategies or complex moves. BelmontVillage residents enjoy a variety of group fitness classes and a vibrant daily activity calendar, offering the opportunity to stretch the mind each day.

BODY

community with on-site care staff.

In our later years, maintaining preventative care and medical needs becomes even more imperative to aging well. However, as we age, it can become difficult to maintain our own care plans. Seek the help of a family member to organize doctor’s appointments and medication or consider a Senior Living

BelmontVillage Aventura residents will enjoy the benefits of a Whole Brain Fitness approach to well-being for seniors. The approach focuses on healthy living through fitness and nutrition in addition to strengthening the mind.

SOUL

Maintaining a sense of purpose helps nourish the soul at every age. Feeling that your life has meaning and that you are in control of it fosters positive attitudes and

emotions and a healthier brain. Stay involved in faith organizations or volunteer groups to boost your sense of purpose. Staying social can also help—seek out community with your friends and family or group activities.

Rising Risk Factors Heart Disease Remains Leading Cause Of Death

While medical advances have helped people live longer with Cardiovascular Diseases, many of the risk factors that lead to these diseases continue to grow.

Fueled by ongoing increases in High Blood Pressure, Obesity and other major risk factors, Heart Disease continues to kill more people in the U.S. than any other cause, according to the American Heart Association’s 2025 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics Update. In fact, Cardiovascular Diseases including Heart Disease and Stroke claim more lives than all forms of Cancer and accidental deaths - the No. 2 and No. 3 causes of deathcombined.

According to the update, nearly 47% of U.S. adults have High Blood Pressure, more than 72% are at an unhealthy weight, nearly 42% are Obese and more

than half have Type 2 Diabetes or Prediabetes.

The annual report published in “Circulation,” the peer-reviewed, flagship journal of the American Heart Association, shows the prevalence of Cardiovascular risk factors are projected to worsen over the coming decades.

“Although we have made a lot of progress against Cardiovascular Disease in the past few decades, there is a lot more work that remains to be done,” said Dhruv S. Kazi, M.D., M.Sc., M.S., FAHA, Head of Health Economics and Associate Director of the Richard A. and Susan F. Smith Center for Outcomes Research in Cardiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School. “If recent trends continue, Hypertension and Obesity will each affect more than 180 million U.S.

adults by 2050, whereas the prevalence of Diabetes will climb to more than 80 million. Over the same time period, we expect to see a 300% increase in health care costs related to Cardiovascular Disease.”

Prevalence for major risk factors varies across sex and race:

• Black women had the highest rate of Obesity at 57.9%, compared to the lowest rate of 14.5% among Asian women.

• Hispanic men had the highest rate of Diabetes at 14.5%, compared to the lowest rate of 7.7% among white women.

• Black women had the highest rate of High Blood Pressure at 58.4%, compared to the lowest rate of 35.3% among Hispanic women.

The prevalence of these risk factorsObesity in particular - is growing among young people globally. As many as 40% of U.S. children have an unhealthy weight with 20% having Obesity. Nearly 60% of adults globally have an unhealthy weight. Long considered one of the leading preventable causes of death in the U.S. and worldwide, tobacco use is also trending down. Smoking rates have steadily declined among both adults and youth since the U.S. Surgeon General’s first report on the dangers of smoking from 51% of men and 34% of women in 1965 to 15.6% and 12%, respectively, in 2018.

Women And The Intersection Of Heart, Kidney And Metabolic Health

Women may be unaware of their risk for Heart Disease, Kidney Disease and metabolic conditions like Diabetes, which drive risk for Cardiovascular Disease.

Consider these facts women should know about Cardiovascular-KidneyMetabolic health, or CKM health, from the scientific experts at the American Heart Association.

Cardiovascular Disease is the No. 1 Killer of Women

Cardiovascular Disease (CVD), which includes Heart Disease and Stroke, affects nearly 45% of women ages 20 and older, and 1 in 3 will die from it.

Women may experience symptoms uncommon in men. Chest pain is the most common Heart Attack symptom, but women are more likely than men to experience pain in the arms, jaw or neck, too.

Early Action is Key

Women with either Type 2 Diabetes or Chronic Kidney Disease are predicted to reach elevated risk for CVD 8-9 years earlier than women with neither condition.

Risk Factors are Connected

The health factors that comprise CKM syndrome are connected. They include high Blood Pressure, Abnormal Cholesterol, being overweight, High Blood Sugar and low Kidney Function.

Pregnancy and Menopause

Affect Women’s CKM Health

Pregnancy complications such as Preeclampsia, Gestational Diabetes and Gestational Hypertension are risk factors for future Chronic Kidney Disease and

Cardiovascular Disease. Changes during Menopause also influence long-term heart and metabolic health. This includes declining Estrogen levels, increased body fat around the organs, increased Cholesterol levels and stiffening or weakening of Blood Vessels. Early Menopause (before age 45) is linked to a higher risk

for Kidney Disease, Type 2 Diabetes and CVD.

Social Factors Affect Women’s Heart Health

Negative economic, environmental and psychosocial factors are associated with lower levels of physical activity and healthy eating and higher levels of con-

ditions like Obesity and Diabetes. Women should know their risk and advocate for their health by requesting thorough screenings that assess Heart, Kidney and Metabolic health at regular medical check-ups. Visit: www.heart.org/ myCKMhealth and watch this video to learn more:

New Hope For Pancreatic Cancer Patients

For over a decade Dr. Robert Donoway, a Pancreatic Cancer surgeon, has been treating select patients who have Pancreatic Cancer with a new form of technology called irreversible electroporation, sometimes referred to as the NanoKnife procedure. The treatment which is FDA approved and involves the passage of high voltage electric current through probes placed in the Tumor during a minimally invasive procedure that requires only an overnight hospital stay, has been found to be quite effective in treating patients with advanced stage disease. The problem until recently was that only tumors smaller than 3 cm could be treated. Dr. Donoway has pioneered the development of a device that enables the treatment of much larger tumors. Because he matches the treatment with each patient’s molecular testing and circulating tumor cell analysis he has been able to identify patients that may still be candidates for treatment even though they were originally excluded based on tumor size, location and complexity. This has been a project in evolution and now he is submitting it for publication on those patients with advanced Cancers now out over 5 years who have

had the procedure as part of a multimodality strategy along with standard of care treatments. Dr. Donoway explains...”clearly this is not for every patient with Pancreatic Cancer, but does offer an opportunity for some who were denied treatment simply because of the limitations of the original design and comes at a critical time as recently published data from a large international collaborative group shows that patients with advanced and oligo-metastatic Pancreatic Cancer do better when treated more aggressively than with just chemotherapy alone by almost 3x longer median survival.” It has become clear that although Pancreatic Cancer is most often diagnosed at a late stage and benefits from palliative chemotherapy in most cases for less than a year, it will be important in the future to individualize patient treatment not only with newer targeted molecular therapy such as K-ras agents but to also remember to include offering such techniques as Pancreatic NanoKnife, Irreversible Electroporation, so that patients do not miss the treatment window of opportunity and are not denied it’s benefits.

Dr. Donoway is a Sloan Kettering trained Pancreatic Surgical Oncologist and past Chief of Surgery at Memorial Regional Hospital as well as “former” Director of the Memorial Regional Cancer Center (now the MCI) and a past Chairman of the Aventura Hospital Cancer Committee. “He is also a former President of the American Cancer Society in South Florida and well as past recipient for Medical Advancement of the Year.” He currently serves as the Medical Director of ATLAS ONCOLOGY - Located in Hollywood at 4000 Hollywood Blvd; in the Presidential Circle building at Suite 555 South. Major Changes For Open Enrollment For Medicare

And ACA 2026!

As we approach the 2026 Open Enrollment season, both Medicare and ACA (Affordable Care Act) participants are facing significant changes that could directly impact their healthcare coverage.Whether you’re a longtime Medicare recipient or enrolled in an ACA marketplace plan, it’s more important than ever to pay attention this year.

Unlike in past years, where most plan changes were minor or resulted in automatic enrollment into a similar plan, 2026 is bringing about plan terminations that won’t automatically transfer you into a new plan. That means if you ignore those letters in your mailbox, you may find yourself without coverage entirely.

Even if you’re happy with your current Medicare Advantage or Part D plan, don’t assume it will be available next year. Many insurance carriers are making sweeping changes—some are exiting the market completely, others are modifying their benefits, prescription drug coverage, provider networks, or premiums.

The takeaway? Don’t sit this one out. This year, reviewing your plan is not optional—it’s essential. What’s Happening in 2026?

The healthcare landscape is evolving quickly, with major shifts coming to both Medicare and ACA (Obamacare) plans.

For Medicare Beneficiaries:

Widespread Plan Terminations: Many carriers are discontinuing Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plans for 2026. Those enrolled in terminated plans won’t be automatically reassigned—you must take action to enroll in a new plan, or you could lose your coverage.

Prescription Coverage Changes: The Inflation Reduction Act has begun to cap out-of-pocket costs on Insulin and other critical medications. However, many drug formularies (the list of drugs covered by a plan) are changing. What was covered affordably this year may not be in 2026.

Provider Network Updates: Some Medicare Advantage plans are shrinking their networks to cut costs, meaning your doctor may no longer be considered in-network. Always verify if your preferred providers are still part of the plan before renewing.

Premium Adjustments: Some plans are increasing premiums, while others are reducing them with fewer benefits. Understanding this trade-off is vital before you renew or switch.

For ACA (Marketplace) Participants:

Carrier Consolidations & Exits: Several carriers are exiting or merging in 2026, which could leave participants without coverage unless they actively select a new plan.

Subsidy Changes: Income thresholds for ACA subsidies are being updated, and many individuals may qualify for more help—or less—than last year. It’s critical to update your income estimate to ensure you’re getting the correct premium tax credit.

Essential Health Benefits Changes: Some ACA plans

fits,” so what was included in 2025 may not be in 2026. Always review the benefits summary before renewing.

Key Enrollment Dates to Remember:

Medicare Open Enrollment:Wednesday, October 15th, 2025 – Sunday, December 7th, 2025

During this time, you can:

• Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan—or vice versa

• Change from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another

• Enroll in or change your Prescription Drug Plan (Part D)

ACA Open Enrollment: Saturday, November 1st, 2025 –Thursday, January 15th, 2026 (in most states)

This is your opportunity to:

• Renew your current ACA plan

• Switch to a new ACA plan

• Apply for subsidies or change your income information

Top Reasons Why Most Americans Avoid Getting Their Check-Ups

(BPT) - Did you know 90% of Americans put off check-ups or recommended screenings that could help identify and treat serious illness early? Aflac’s 2025 Wellness Matters Survey reveals what’s making Americans hesitate to get wellness exams - and who avoids them most.

Surprisingly, among Americans under 60, women were most likely to admit skipping their common recommended screenings: Gen Z women (68% versus 55% of Gen Z men); millennial women (63% versus 61% millennial men) and Gen X women (63% versus 54% Gen X men).

If you or a loved one are delaying taking care of your health, you’re not alonebut your inaction could result in increased costs, worse health outcomes, or even a shorter lifespan. The good news is, you can take steps today to help safeguard your health.

Barriers to care

The Wellness Matters Survey found an alarming 94% of Americans face barriers to getting recommended screenings. Across all generations, Americans delay health care because going to the doctor isn’t always easy - logistically or emotionally. Many people avoid appointments for practical reasons including cost, time and transportation, but emotional factors like fear of bad news or embarrassment also create obstacles:

Nearly half of Americans (48%) face logistical barriers including conflicts with work hours and challenges taking time off for appointments.

Nearly 40% have canceled or not scheduled a doctor’s appointment because the wait time was too long.

Americans have avoided these common screenings: Pap Smear (33%), Prostate Exam (32%), Colonoscopy (32%), Mammogram (31%), Blood Test (31%), full-body Skin Cancer exam (27%), STD screening (22%).

Notably, millennials are most likely to avoid these overall screenings (62%), closely followed by Gen Z (61%):

Gen Z reports experiencing feelings of personal embarrassment and distrust or dislike of doctors (32%).

Embarrassment and fear of bad news prevents nearly 1 in 4 young women, particularly Gen Z, from getting on-time screenings.

Advantages of check-ups and screenings

Annual checkups with a primary care physician offer several benefits. They give your provider a baseline so changes can help identify health issues early, when they’re much more treatable. Wellness exams also offer opportunities to ask questions and alleviate concerns, which can be reassuring. Information from trained, experienced health care providers is more reliable and accurate than what you may find online about your concerns. Waiting until you have a health crisis, then relying on urgent care or the emergency room, is also more costly than preventive care and timely management of health conditions. Many Americans (41%) - including Gen Z (51%) and millennials

screening timelines to your calendar. You can also encourage friends and loved ones to take care of their health by offering gentle reminders, expressing your concern for their well-being. In the Wellness Matters Survey, 73% said they feel the positive benefits of a thoughtful nudge about getting preventive care, with 83% of African Americans, 79% of Hispanics, 78% of Gen Z and 77% of millennials expressing thankfulness or a sense of relief that a friend or loved one urged them to go to the doctor.

Don’t wait for a health scare

Overall, the survey showed Americans know they should take a moment to schedule preventive care screenings or wellness visits, even though they delay it. For 65% of Americans, experiencing a health scare is what made them realize they need to be more proactive about their health. Unfortunately, many of those who believe they’ll be diagnosed with Cancer are more likely to delay screenings (62% versus 42%).

Coverage matters

(54%) - primarily use urgent care or the emergency room for medical needs. Men (46%), African Americans (47%), Asian Americans (45%) and Hispanics (44%) are most likely to seek medical attention from urgent care or the emergency room.

Timely health screenings can ensure signs of illness - including Cancer - are detected as early as possible, before you need to seek urgent care. Recent medical advances offer more effective treatments for a variety of cancers and other diseases, but they’re more successful when started as soon as possible. Finding and treating cancer and other diseases early is your best bet for improved health outcomes, and could actually save your life.

Tips to manage health screenings

If you’re unsure what screenings you need, or haven’t seen a doctor in years, contact your health insurer to learn what doctors or clinics near you are covered by your plan, and what screenings are covered.

Choose a primary care physician. Through your insurance network, find a practitioner located near you.

Learn about screenings recommended for your age, gender and family health history. Start at: www.CDC.gov for basic information.

Keep a regular schedule by planning check-ups around your birthday, so you don’t forget.

Maximize appointments by writing down questions you have before going.

Plan ahead by adding recommended

Understandably, employees consider benefits packages to be vital for their physical, financial and Mental well-being during a time of increased worry about health care costs. In fact, the 2024-2025 Aflac WorkForces Report found a growing number of employees would consider leaving their jobs for better benefits, even with a pay cut. Supplemental insurance benefits are an important part of a comprehensive benefits package, with most employees seeing an increasing need for supplemental insurance to help mitigate fear of unexpected medical events, helping to anchor financial stability and increase peace of mind.

You can be more proactive about your health. Early detection and treatment are key, so start by making an appointment today. Visit: www.Aflac.com/Wellness Matters (Spanish: www.Aflac.com/es/ Wellness-Matters) to learn more.

Oral Corticosteroids:

Relief, Risks, & Preventing Overuse

(BPT) - Asthma, Allergies and Eczema are more common than you may think. More than 28.2 million people in the U.S. have Asthma. About one in three adults and one in four chil dren live with Allergies. And almost 6% of adults and more than 10% of children have Eczema. These conditions can significantly impact daily activities and quality of life. When symptoms get worse, doctors may prescribe oral Corticosteroids (OCS). If you’re prescribed OCS to treat severe flare-ups of these or related conditions, make sure to have an open conversation with your doctor about these medications. Learn how OCS can get symptoms under control. Ask about the risk of potential side effects.

1. What are OCS?

Oral Corticosteroids are human-made ster oid medications modeled after Cortisol, a natural hormone produced by the adrenal glands. These pills or liquid medications are used to quickly reduce inflammation. Examples of OCS include: Prednisone, Prednisolone, Methylprednisolone and Dexamethasone.

OCS are inexpensive, fast-acting drugs. They are typically prescribed in a short course, or burst, of three to five days. That is often all it takes for OCS to provide relief from symptoms. OCS differ from inhaled Corticosteroids (ICS) and topical Corticosteroids. ICS, delivered through an inhaler or nebulizer, acts directly on the lungs and airways as a daily controller medication for Asthma. Topical Corticosteroids, on the other hand, are applied to the skin to treat localized inflammation from Eczema.

Asthma symptoms, nasal inflammation, and Eczema flares, among other conditions. They are not usually prescribed for long-term daily management or control of symptoms.

4. What are the potential side effects of short-term OCS use?

OCS are also different from Anabolic Steroids, which are related to the male hormone testosterone and sometimes used for muscle building.

2. What are OCS prescribed for?

OCS are powerful anti-inflammatory medications used to treat a wide range of medical conditions. They are mostly prescribed to manage flare-ups of respiratory and allergic conditions, such as Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Allergic Rhinitis, Nasal Polyps and Sinusitis. They are sometimes used to treat severe flare-ups of skin conditions such as Eczema, Chronic Hives or Psoriasis. In addition, OCS are used to treat Autoimmune Diseases like Arthritis, Lupus and Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

3. What are the benefits of OCS?

OCS can quickly reduce inflammation and swelling in various body systems, including the airways and skin. They can provide relief and effectively stop symptoms from worsening. This is why OCS are prescribed for severe

OCS can quickly treat flare-ups, but they can cause serious side effects. That’s why doctors prescribe them in short courses of three to five days - to minimize the risk and impact of side effects.

Some short-term side effects include: Weight gain, particularly in the abdomen, face or neck, eye problems, muscle weakness, Insomnia and sleep problems; High Blood Pressure elevated Blood Sugar Levels, swelling in lower legs, Gastrointestinal issues (heartburn, nausea), mood changes and irritability, Depression and Anxiety.

5. What are the potential side effects of long-term OCS use?

In rare cases, doctors prescribe OCS for long-term use when inflammation is severe, and the benefits outweigh the risks and side effects.

Long-term use can lead to the following side effects: Skin thinning and easy bruising, Osteoporosis and bone loss or weakness, High blood pressure and cardiovascular risks, Diabetes onset, Slow growth in children, Immune system suppression and increased infection risk, Adrenal Gland Suppression and Hormonal Imbalance, Glaucoma and

6. What is OCS overuse?

Oral Corticosteroids have a high rate of success in treating flare-ups. As a result, some people may develop a reliance on them for treatment. They may want to continue taking OCS to keep their condition under control.

OCS overuse is defined as when you take the medication at a dose or duration that increases the risk of adverse effects without a clear benefit.

The overuse may occur when you: Take more than 2 courses or bursts of OCS per year, especially for Asthma symptoms; take OCS daily or regularly for more than 3 months, particularly at high doses.

How much is too much? This is a conversation you should have with your doctor to decide what’s best for your medical condition.

7. How to prevent OCS overuse?

If you are prescribed two or more courses of oral Corticosteroids per year, this is a sign that your condition is not well-controlled. You may need to adjust your treatment plan instead of continuing to rely on OCS.

Talk with your doctor - preferably a specialist such as an Allergist or Dermatologist - to discuss treatment options. Ask about advanced treatments such as biologics to help keep your symptoms in check.

Finding Quality Surgical Care Is Easier Than Ever

Your doctor has informed you that you need surgery - like 15 million other patients in the United States every year. Naturally, you and your family may want to research your hospital options to have confidence that you are getting the best care.

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) has created a new Find a Hospital search tool to help you find hospitals that meet the rigorous quality standards we set for surgical care. The ACS has been defining quality care in surgery since our founding more than 112 years ago, and now we make it easier than ever for patients and their families to find ACS Surgical Quality Partner hospitals in their

local communities and to access information to prepare for surgery.

What is Find a Hospital?

Find a Hospital is a convenient, userfriendly search tool that helps you locate hospitals that have undergone rigorous accreditation and verification from the ACS to demonstrate their capability to deliver the highest quality surgical care. Based on your individual needs, you can find care that excels in areas across surgical specialties including Cancer, geriatric surgery, emergency general surgery, children’s surgery, vascular surgery, trauma care and more.

Find a Hospital features map-based results for a quick and easy visual location

of hospitals and a map function to easily navigate to the hospital. You also can learn more about the list of ACS Quality Programs in which a hospital participates. ACS Quality Programs are grounded in rigorous standards and evidence that define what optimal surgical care should include.

Receiving accreditation or verification from the ACS involves a rigorous process, including a detailed site visit. These standards provide the roadmap for hospitals to develop their processes and capabilities to deliver high-quality care.

How can I prepare for surgery?

Whether you need a routinely encountered procedure or have a complex, high-risk case, the Find a Hospital tool can help you find the right hospital. Additionally, the ACS Find a Surgeon search tool can help you find surgeons who are Fellows of the ACS (FACS). Fellows are board-certified surgeons whose education, training, professional qualifications, surgical competence and ethical conduct are reviewed and consistent with the high standards of the ACS.

The next time you or a loved one need surgical care, make sure to visit: www.facs.org. Patricia L. Turner is the Executive Director & CEO of the American College of Surgeons, the largest professional association of surgeons in the world, founded in 1913.
