Announcements

One: Let us pray in unison: Right now, I am tapping into the universal life force. I wish for all who are suffering to find relief and hope. I deny fear any power over me. I will be a bright light in the world. I am serene and confident and full of joy. I expect blessings. Nothing is too good for me May we all be strong and wise and loving. May Love heal our world. God of Wonder, God of Thunder (COCS)

God of wonder, God of thunder, God of impact and release, God of riddle and of reason, God of passion and of peace – to your mystery and marvel we return to give you praise, every year with you beginning to the closing of our days.

Prophetic Witness

Come and Go with Me

Come and go with me to that land, come and go with me to that land, come and go with me to that land where I’m bound (where I’m bound).

For we name you and we claim you, Father, Mother, Spirit, Friend: you are vision past our vision, you are end beyond our end; all the circles, all the cycles of our little finite phase now we give into your keeping, trusting you through all our days.

Come and go with me to that land, come and go with me to that land, come and go with me to that land where I’m bound. There’ll be freedom in that land, there’ll be freedom in that land, there’ll be freedom in that land where I’m bound (where I’m bound).

Sunshine Cathedral Affirmation Sunshine Cathedral is a different kind of church where: *Our God is love. *Kindness is our worship. *Compassion is our prayer. *The sacred value of all people is our creed; and *Healing the hurts caused by hatred is our mission.

There’ll be freedom in that land, there’ll be freedom in that land, there’ll be freedom in that land where I’m bound. Please be seated. Rev Dr Durrell Watkins

Clarion Call

The Call to Worship One: This is the day that has been made. All: Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Sung Response There’ll be justice in that land, there’ll be justice in that land, there’ll be justice in that land where I’m bound (where I’m bound).

Service of Praise

Crucifer - Deacon Sue Gallagher

There’ll be justice in that land, there’ll be justice in that land, there’ll be justice in that land where I’m bound.

Processional Hymn Out of the Depths, O God, We Call (CoCS)

Service of Proclamation

Out of the depths, O God, we call to you. Wounds of the past remain, affecting all we do. Facing our lives, we need your love so much. Here in this community, heal us by your touch.

The Wisdom of Nona Brooks Rev Dr Anne Atwell The Universe is maintained by the Presence and Power of God and the great truth of God’s Infinite Presence is wholeness here and now. Remember that wholeness means the perfection of the Universe at every point. We realize this truth through a conscious knowledge of God. Let us bring this truth into its personal application. I, the individual, live in wholeness now. I live by the power of wholeness. I live because of it. It never forsakes me. Wholeness belongs to everyone…Our normal state is abundant life, beauty, and goodness.

Out of the depths of fear, O God, we speak. Breaking the silences, the searing truth we seek. Safe among friends, our grief and rage we share. Here in this community, hold us in your care. God of the loving heart, we praise your name. Dance through our lives and loves; anoint with Spirit flame. Your light illumines each familiar face. Here in this community, meet us with your grace.

In these human words, God's voice is heard. Thanks be to God. Please rise as you are able. 2

The Good News According to Mark (5.35b-42, New Jerusalem Bible)

Sign of Peace

You’ve got to ac-cent-u-ate the positive, e-lim-inate the negative, latch on to the affirmative, don’t mess with Mister In-between.

Some people arrived from the house of the president of the synagogue to tell the president, 'Your daughter is dead…' But Jesus overheard what they said and he said to the president of the synagogue, 'Do not be afraid; only have faith.' And he allowed no one to go with him except Peter and James and John the brother of James. So they came to the house of the president of the synagogue, and Jesus noticed all the commotion, with people weeping and wailing unrestrainedly He went in and said to them, 'Why all this commotion and crying? The child is not dead, but asleep.' But they ridiculed him. So, he turned them all out and, taking with him the child's father and mother and his own companions, he went into the place where the child lay. And taking the child by the hand he said to her, ‘Little girl, get up.' The little girl got up at once and began to walk about (she was twelve years old). At once they were overcome with astonishment.

You’ve got to spread joy up to the maximum, bring gloom down to the minimum, have faith or pandemonium li’ble to walk upon the scene. We better ac-cent-u-ate the positive, e-lim-inate the negative, latch on to the affirmative, don’t mess with Missus In-between.

9AM Linda Edin / 10:30AM Deacon Ed Huckemyer

One: Because we value our community and believe in our inspired mission, because we want every person to live with hope and joy, and because we know that even a little can mean a lot, we participate in the Sacrament of Sharing, the joyful giving of resources meant to help more and more people discover that they are God’s miracle and not God’s mistake.

In these human words, God's voice is heard. Thanks be to God. Please be seated. The Anthem

Communion Song

Let There Be Peace on Earth

Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me; let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be, with God our creator, family all are we. Let us walk with each other in perfect harmony. Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment now. With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow: to take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally, let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me. Prayer of Thanksgiving 9AM Rev Marian Cavagnaro 10:30AM Deacon Ed Huckemyer

We bless the memories of our (+) dearly departed, and we allow ourselves to be blessed by those memories. We affirm blessings for all who are on our prayer list and all who are on our hearts. And with people all over the world we pray, May peace prevail on earth! These prayers we offer in the names of all helpers of humanity, and in the spirit of Jesus, son of Mary, as we continue to pray as Jesus taught us: Model Prayer Creator which art in heaven, hallowed be thy names. Thy kin-dom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And leave us not in temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kin-dom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. Please be seated.

Please rise as you are able. The Prayer of Protection The light of God surrounds us; the love of God enfolds us. The power of God protects us; the presence of God watches over us. Wherever we are, God is. Benediction

by Rev. Dr. Durrell Watkins (Senior Minister, Sunshine Cathedral) Lent is the season of preparation that precedes Easter. It’s a time to renew spiritual practices or take them deeper. Some people fast, but at Sunshine Cathedral we say fast from negative attitudes, self-criticism, fear, prejudices, resentment…fast from harmful energies, not from nutritious food! But the choice, of course, is yours. Traditionally, Lent is also a time for “alms-giving” (giving generously to church and charities), regular worship, and daily prayer. We invite you to keep a holy Lent and to use it as a time to grow spiritually. Lent begins on February 14. We will offer EvenSong on Thursdays in Lent, beginning February 15. Every Thursday at 7 pm we will have an intimate and profound service of prayer. It will last about 25 minutes and include singing, silence, and candle lighting. In Lent, worship with us on Sundays and also pray with us on Thursdays. We will continue midday prayer on Facebook Monday – Saturday and you can watch your clergy discuss important topics most days on The Queer God Squad. Lent can be a profound time of spiritual renewal; let’s make it so. **********

January 30: Mohandas K. Gandhi (1869 – 1948) – Proponent of non-violent resistance to systems of oppression. His philosophy and activism sparked the movement for Indian independence from Great Britain. He was a Hindu but also an admirer of Jesus Christ (though he rejected the dogmatic claims of Christianity) and his example inspired U.S. Civil Rights Leader Martin Luther King, Jr.

February 1: St. Brigid (451 – 525) – an Irish nun who shares a name and feast day with a Celtic goddess. She was raised by Druids and is believed to have been a priestess of the goddess Brigid before converting to Catholicism. There is a legend that suggests that when Brigid (also spelled Bridget) made her final vows, the bishop was so overcome in the moment that he accidentally performed the rite for consecrating a bishop! Brigid had an “anam cara” (soul mate) named Darlughdach, another nun. The two slept in the same bed.

This reminds us of the Jewish law (Exodus 13:2; 22:29) that every firstborn son was to be dedicated in memory of the deliverance of Israel from slavery in Egypt. Madonna of Montevergine - In the 13th century two young men in southern Italy were in love. They tried to keep their relationship secret, but one cold and gloomy winter day I n1256, they were spotted holding hands and kissing on the way to Mass. A crowd (which became an angry mob) attacked them, stripped them naked, and tied them to a tree near the Shrine of the Madonna of Montevergine. Naked, cold, surrounded by snow and ice, they were left to freeze to death. According to legend, the Madonna of Montevergine was moved by the men’s love for each other. She sent unexpected sunshine to warm the lovers. Soon, they were able to free themselves. Some accounts say that the couple celebrated by making love on the spot! Because of this miracle, the community allowed the men to live openly as a couple. The community was transformed into a place of tolerance toward sexual minorities. Every year on Candlemas, pilgrims to the Shrine of the Madonna include gender-bending devotees of Mary, known as “femminielli.”

LET US PRAY.. Trusting in a Higher Power, I affirm blessings for each of these committed to the care of our prayers. We are forever loved and divinely embraced. We are all part of a glorious Whole; we are each individualized expressions of a loving, omnipresent Life. May each person now experience peace and joy. Let miracles abound. Amen. REMEMBER Prayers can be submitted via SunshineCathedral.org or by emailing any SC clergyperson. You can hear a prayer at anytime by calling 954.462.2004 (press 6).
