Instrumentalists to Perform in the Four State Honor Band

Seniors Gabe Wesselschmidt and Will McConaughey were accepted to perform with the Four State Honor Band at Northwest Missouri State University (NMSU) in Maryville, MO. Gabe and Will will have the opportunity to perform with the Symphonic Band at the Four State Honor Band Performances- conducted by Dr. Kathryn Strickland and Mr. John Bell at the NMSU Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, January 23. "Students are nominated based on Director recommendation and previous musical achievements,” shared SCA Director of Bands Steve Residor. “Out of the two hundred students that were nominated within Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, and Nebraska, Gabe and Will were selected to perform with the Four State Honor Symphonic Band. I am humbled and honored that their SCA education and experiences prepared them for this reputable ensemble."

Senior Gabe Wesselschmidt has been selected to play the trumpet in a performance with the Four State Honors Symphonic Band. Senior Will McConaughey has been selected to play the trombone in a performance with the Four State Honors Symphonic Band.

Vocal Musician Earns All-State Recognition

Senior Ben Kemper has been named as an alternate to the Missouri All-State Choir for the 2022-23 school year. “Congratulations to Ben Kemper for being selected to participate as an alternate in the Missouri All-State Choir,” shared SCA High School Choir Director Mrs. Mandy Hoover. “Ben went through two audition processes and is one of 10 tenors in the KC Metro district to make it into the state level honor choir.”

Students Selected for KC Metro District Honor Choirs

Nine secondary choir members have earned a spot in one of the Kansas City Metro District Honor Choirs for 2022-23. These students performed with their District Ensembles on October 25 at William Jewell College. • Senior Ben Kemper earned a spot in the All-District Mixed Choir. • Seniors Shea Rider, Olivia Truesdale, and Morgan Sparks and sophomores Abagail Stidham, Avery Whitfield, and Emma Coats earned spots in the Soprano 1, Soprano 2, Alto 1, Alto 2 (SSAA) Choir. • Juniors Hunter Harris and David Gilkeson earned spots in the Tenor 1, Tenor 2, Bass 1, Bass 2 (TTBB) Choir.

Third Grade Musical Performance Amazing

SCA third grade students shared an amazing musical performance, The Christmas County Spelling Bee. The musical story was about a town who held a spelling bee as a way to choose their characters for the Nativity. During the spelling bee, student contestants spelled some of the many names of God. There was a cast of 18, and a choir of 70 students who did an amazing job performing all ten songs— and more importantly, proclaiming Christ as the true meaning of Christmas!

Third grade students shared the true meaning of Christmas at a musical performance, The Christmas County Spelling Bee.

Sounds of the Holiday

For the first time, the Junior-Senior ensemble performed at Silver Dollar City over the holidays and the SCA concert chorale performed in the Kansas City metro area Sounds of the Holiday that aired on KSHB-41. Mandy Hoover and accompanist Laurie Schwab led students in spreading the true reason for the season.
