We are so excited about the start of our camps for the 2023 summer session. Our recent parent meeting was a success! This FAQ recaps the meeting and intends to answer parents' questions regarding our day-to-day activities and general information

Camp Dates:
Camps will run from Thursday, June 1- Friday, June 30, 2023. We will not have camps on Friday, June 16th, in observance of Juneteenth.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures:
All morning drop-o s and afternoon pick-ups will be done in the middle school parking lot. Morning drop-o begins at 8:00 am and ends at 8:20 am Any elementary student reporting after 8:25 must report directly to their classroom Teachers will assist with opening doors to allow children to exit. Please follow the directions of the teachers on duty. Afternoon pick-up starts at 3:00 pm and ends at 3:30 pm. Any students remaining after 3:30 will be sent to
aftercare for a fee Afternoon pick-up will follow the same route as our morning drop-o Teachers will assist in helping students into vehicles but will not buckle students into car seats Please drive forward out of the pick-up line to park and buckle your child(ren).
Middle and High School students can only be picked up from Southern University Laboratory School Pickup is not allowed from STEM locations on or o campus
Extended Day: Arrival:
Our extended-day teacher, Ms. Pooler, is located in room 404. Students may begin arriving at the school at 7:30 a.m. Parents must walk their children to the classroom and sign the students in At 8:00, students will be escorted to the gym to sit with their designated teachers/classes Then, students will walk to the cafeteria with their class at the specified time
Dismissal:
All students will be escorted to the dismissal area by their designated teacher Students enrolled in extended-day will sit in a specified location in the shade All extended-day students will report with Ms. Pooler to her classroom for extended-day. Students participating in our extended-day option will need to bring an additional snack. Students who remain after 3:30 p.m. will be escorted to the extended-day classroom. The penalty for students not picked up by 3:30 is $1000 At this time, we are not o ering a drop-in extended-day option
PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS NO EXTENDED DAY AFTERCARE ON FRIDAYS.
Communication:
All camp families will receive a weekly email with additional updates and information on Sunday evening
Field Trips and Activities:
Field trip locations will vary this year. An updated schedule of field trips will be provided in the Sunday email.
Field trips for SWAG are planned for Wednesday this summer with the expectation of the last week of camp, which has us traveling to Lafayette, Louisiana, on June 29th We have trips planned for the movies, Blue Zoo, Lafayette Children’s Museum, and Lafayette Science Museum.
Parent/guardian participation in field trips will also be communicated individually. Some of our destinations have a very strict chaperone policy
Field Trips for STEM/Enrichment Camps will be on Friday.
Daily Dress:
Shirts will be passed out on Thursday and Friday of this week. Students can wear a school shirt of their choice until their camp shirt is received. Students are required to wear Camp shirts each day of the week
Students must wear tennis shoes ONLY (no sandals, slides/slippers/foam runners,/crocs)
Students must wear appropriate athletic shorts no longer than 3 inches above the knee
Lunch and Snacks:
Breakfast and lunch will be provided each day. Students can bring their lunch from home. Please note that there is no refrigerator or microwave access. Campers will need to bring a water bottle and snack each day If you are participating in our extended day option, you must send an additional afternoon snack daily
Supply Lists:
Elementary camp supply lists are attached to this email. Students in Pre-K and Kindergarten are required to bring a nap mat and a change of clothes on the first day of camp These items will be left at the school and returned at the end of camp Please have all other supplies in by no later than Monday, June 5, 2023.
Camp Expectations:
All campers are expected to behave respectfully, responsibly, and safely. Our goals are to provide an environment where all campers and camp sta can build lasting relationships and have fun learning through interactive lessons and activities. Pleasetellyourcamperto informacampsta memberimmediatelyiftheyfeelthreatened. Here are some criteria we expect campers to follow:
○ Using language that is socially appropriate and respectful
○ Respecting the property of the school, sta , and fellow campers
○ Acting in a cooperative manner and respectful of camp boundaries
○ Making e orts to contribute to lessons and activities
○ Cooperating and taking turns with other campers
Discipline Policy:
The SULS S WA G and Enrichment Camp intends to provide a safe environment for participants in our program Therefore, participants will be removed if they continuously disrupt the program, create an unsafe condition, or disrespect camp sta or peers No refund will be provided for students dismissed from camp due to negative behavior.
1ST WARNING: Camp sta will redirect the camper to more appropriate behavior
2ND WARNING: If inappropriate behavior continues, the camper will be pulled aside for a constructive thinking opportunity (time-out) to refocus, get on task, and discuss alternative behaviors.
3RD WARNING: After three incident reports, disciplinary action is left at the sta 's discretion; however, the child may be suspended. A meeting will be arranged with the parent/guardian, sta member, and camp director to discuss the reinstatement conditions.
