The Career & Tech Center offers high school students the opportunity to learn job skills through instruction, hands–on experience, and internships. All programs align with 21st century industry and learning standards, which foster college and career readiness.

Allied Health

The Allied Health Program is a career exploration program for high school seniors exploring health career options. Students will gain knowledge essential to all healthcare workers.

Through project-based learning, students will have the opportunity to concentrate their studies on a specific field or career area of their choice. Clinical rotations/internships allow students to observe health professionals at work in a variety of settings. In addition, students learn critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills that are important in post-secondary education and in the healthcare industry.

Animal Science

The Animal Science Program prepares students for career opportunities in a wide range of animal-related fields. The program provides students with the knowledge and skills to prepare them for entry-level employment or admission into a two or four-year college.

Students will learn about the anatomy and physiology of large and small animals, nutrition, safety, handling, livestock production, agribusiness management, and more. The coursework is arranged to provide students with a number of experiences and skill development opportunities based on their interests.

Students will be able to work hands-on within a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE), applying skills in both the classroom and with industry partners. These opportunities include real-life experiences on working farms, veterinary practices, and organizations that utilize animals for educational experiences and support.

If you are someone who enjoys working with your hands, has a mechanical aptitude, takes pride in your work, and is passionate about cars, then you might consider a career in collision repair. This is a challenging, yet rewarding career.

General tasks of a Collision Repair Technician include:

Replacing crumpled parts beyond repair

Collision Repair Technicians can repair any type of vehicle, but most technicians work on cars and small trucks. There are also Specialty Technicians who learn to work on specific models, including sports cars and high-end vehicles.

The Automotive Technology Program at the Career & Tech Center prepares students with the skills and experience necessary to enter a variety of automotive fields as an entrylevel technician or as an apprentice.

The Automotive Technician makes a living diagnosing, servicing, and repairing vehicles. The technician must be highly skilled and well trained. He or she must be a “jack of all trades.” A successful tech needs the skills of a Machinist, Plumber, Electrician, Welder, Computer Technician, and Bookkeeper.

Students are trained in a real shop. They will learn all of the basics of how to look up repair procedures, wiring diagrams and learn how to safely set up and operate shop equipment such as brake lathes, digital volt ohmmeters, vehicle alignment equipment, engine performance diagnostic equipment, and oxyacetylene cutting & welding.

The Broadcasting/Music Production Program provides students with hands-on training to learn industry basics, including how to operate and maintain audio equipment currently used in the field. Students learn audio production terminology and techniques while also learning how to play instruments. Students are also provided with digital audio workstations to create recordings and podcasts.

This course also provides experience in the fields of radio, podcasting, and live sound. Projects not only teach students to explore writing, producing, and engineering music, but also the history of broadcasting and music.

Construction Technology covers a wide variety of transferable skills and knowledge that can be used in the workforce or as a home owner.

Students may seek entry-level jobs or apprentice programs in the field of their choice. Many students continue their studies in college or enter the workforce and use the experience to help pay for their college education.

Students will learn basic building practices in the fields of carpentry, plumbing and electric. Also included in the curriculum is Green building, industry innovation, operation of portable power tools, which provides students with numerous hands-on constructions opportunities.

Community Service projects provide a lasting memory and source of pride for students to look back on and recall their accomplishments.

Cosmetology is the study and application of beauty treatments. Areas of specialty include hairstyling, skin care, cosmetics, hair coloring, manicures/ pedicures, treatments, and business skills.

The program is based on the Milady Standard Cosmetology curriculum. The instructors are committed to keeping current with the continuous changes and progression in the Cosmetology field. Students receive quality training in our industry standard salon.

Students must complete 1,000 hrs. of instruction to be eligible to sit for the New York State written exam and a practical exam.

Clients from the public enjoy the student-operated salon. The salon provides students with hands-on experience and working with patrons, customer service skills and how to operate a business.

Students also observe and work with professional leaders in the Cosmetology field, attend the International Beauty Show in NYC, and participate in other field trips related to the industry.

Early Childhood Education

The main focus of the Early Childhood Education Program is to prepare students for careers in caring for and education of young children.

The Early Childhood Education program teaches the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of children from infancy to nine years of age. The curriculum includes using observation as a tool for assessment, the development of student management techniques, handling daily routines, and setting classroom limits. High school students learn how to prepare lesson plans and structure the environment to optimize student learning. Particular attention is placed on managing a budget to purchase educational materials that are safe and effective.

Early Childhood students participate in internships throughout the school year. Students work with three-four year old children in a childcare center environment along with Pre-K through 3rd-grade students in a public school setting. These students become an integral part of the classroom and work closely with teachers, support staff, and the children in everyday activities.

Electrical trades is a field within the construction industry that offers exciting, high-wage careers in many sub-specialties.

Students will have the opportunity to work alongside industry professionals through meaningful Work Based Learning opportunities to develop the skills necessary to install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures. Students will also learn the electrical theory behind residential and commercial electrical systems, national code, and safety systems.

The Innovative Design Program is for students who are looking to enter the Digital Manufacturing and Gaming Industries to become Architects, Designers, Builders, Gamers, Landscapers, Makers and Engineers.

Utilizing modeling software and working with the latest technology, students will learn how to explore ideas, create plans and bring their ideas and drawings from two-dimensional documents to 3D models.

Digital manufacturing is the use of an integrated, computer-based system comprised of simulation, threedimensional (3D) visualization, analytics and various collaboration tools to create products. Manufacturing has moved from manual mills and lathes to computerized numerical control equipment and 3D printers. Today's manufacturers, whether they are making cars, airplanes, or iPhone parts, are looking for engineers, designers, machinists and computer programmers.

Game design is one of the most exciting and competitive careers in the world. For people with a passion for technology and interactive entertainment, video game design is a dream job, but even those with a slight interest in video games would jump at the opportunity to become a member of this fascinating industry.

Game Designers use a combination of technology, science, engineering, mathematics, design, art, and animation skills to create realistic action packed video games. In addition to the Entertainment Industry, game designers create interactive games for the Mobile Technology Industry, education, advertising and marketing, web design, and many other businesses.

This program is designed to provide students with the basic knowledge and skills that will prepare them for employment and educational opportunities in the areas of equipment operation, maintenance and a variety of outdoor careers. Students will also learn to proficiently pilot unmanned remote aircraft (Drone) weighing less than 55 pounds to assist in the planning and design of landscape management and other related careers.

Topics of study include heavy equipment operation, forestry and logging, site engineering, equipment service and repair, landscaping and conservation practices. Course content includes both theory and hands-on skill development for each subject studied. Major curriculum areas have integrated Math, Science, English, Safety, and career exploration components.

Natural Resources is a two year program that requires students to work outdoors throughout the school year. Community projects provide students with opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in practical applications.

Natural Resources has recently teamed up with Kubota Tech to provide a unique opportunity to advance the training and certifications of students pursuing a career in the diesel equipment industry. Through the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3), students will work to diagnose, repair, and maintain many in-demand pieces of Kubota equipment. We now offer several certifications, including both engines and hydraulics. As this program grows, we will add additional certifications in brakes, steering, suspension(BSS), powertrain, electrical, preventative maintenance inspection, maintenance procedures, pre-delivery inspection, and assembly. These skills and certifications will lead to job opportunities through partnerships with our Industry Partners.

New Vision Health is an academically rigorous program for college-bound high school seniors who plan to major in a health related field at a two-year or four-year college.

This program affords students the opportunity to work with and observe health professionals in action. In addition to classroom work, students participate in competency-based internships that allow them to observe healthcare workers in a variety of settings. Students also learn critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills that are important in the health professions. This educational experience provides students with the necessary information to make a career choice.

Admission Process

Admission to the New Vision Health Program is very competitive. Successful applicants must demonstrate a strong work ethic and solid academic ability.

Admission criteria include:

Passed all NYS Regents (waved for non-Regents years)

Overall high school average of 85 or above

Regents score of 80 or above in Living Environment, Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2/Trig

Recommendation from a school guidance counselor and two teachers

Completion of an essay on a selected topic

Interview with an interdisciplinary team of teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators.

Public Safety Services

Public Safety Services provides training to 11th and 12th-grade students in the fields of law enforcement, security, corrections, and other public safety occupations. Students will also learn to proficiently pilot unmanned remote aircraft (Drone) weighing less than 55 pounds to assist in search and rescue and other law enforcement efforts.

Students learn in a classroom setting and through practical hands-on exercises pertaining to the public safety field.

Upon successful completion of the program, students receive industry-related certifications such as NYS Security Guard certification, AHA CPR/AED Certification, as well as multiple FEMA certifications.

Students will also have the opportunity to meet and learn from experts in the public safety industry and visit the following institutions:

Welding

The Welding Program introduces students to the basics of welding principles. Students will learn welding safety and theory, metal preparation, measuring, cutting, project layout, blue print reading, in addition to basic metal fabrication.

This hands-on class will give students the opportunity to learn the different types of welding oxyfuel, Gas/Metal Arc Welding, TIG Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, and Plasma Cutting. Upon completion of the fabrication unit, students will be able to safely set-up and operate various machines such as CNC, lathes, mills, and drill presses.

The first year of the program instructs students in welding safety and welding techniques utilizing the various welding processes.

The second year of the program further explores the arc welding process and prepares students for welding certification. Fabrication is a significant component of year two. The blend of fabrication and welding expands student knowledge to manufacture and create unique welding designs.

This exploratory/transitional program provides students in 10th-12th grades with employability skills. The program is designed for students who struggle with academic assignments but can excel with the opportunity to explore hands-on learning.

General Education Diploma (GED) Program

The General Education Diploma (GED) program is designed to equip students with the skills necessary to successfully complete the suite of exams required for obtaining their GED, serving as a substitute for a traditional high school diploma.

The program emphasizes proficiency in four core subject areas, each corresponding to a separate exam. Students have the flexibility to progress through the program at their own pace, tailored to their individual needs.

The Home School District submits an application for the student

A visit is scheduled to allow the prospective student to attend a GED class, meet the instructor, and engage with the CTE guidance office.

A student intake session follows, involving the student, school district personnel, and parents/guardians.

Based on the intake, the student may or may not be accepted into the program.

Accepted students undergo TABE testing to assess their basic educational level, guiding the customization of the program to individual needs.
