From the President Dear SULADS Hearts

(People who have the hearts for the SULADS Ministry),

SULADS is the home of young people, adults, and families of selfless dedication, ardent devotion and undaunted zeal for missions. In the generation where everything is fast and everything is just the touch of your finger, it is amazing to behold that there are still young people wanted to get dirty. These young people in SULADS live with the most dangerous people in the mountains and the islands. But in their presence the savage spirit melts and softens. In the presence of our SULADS missionaries light is brought. In the presence of our missionaries love is seen in action. Indeed, “their commitment is no joke! This year we praise the Lord for the largest number of trainees being sent to the field. It is the largest in the most unexpected generation. We praise the Lord of their so many stories of how the good Lord brought them to SULADS. Their coming alone is already a miracle. Their coming alone is already the change they have been waiting for. Let us never forget these group of missionaries you will meet in this issue. Let us never forget to pray for them. Their lives are not easy up in the mountains and the Islands. Your prayers will encourage them in times of downfall moments. Your prayers will send them angels in times of dangers. Your prayers will send villagers bringing food when nothing is on their tables. Your prayers will be their Power! To our SULADS in the field we are praying of your beautiful walk with Jesus. We are excited to see you all a maturer man and woman.

ONCE A SULADS! ALWAYS A SULADS! Keep on Climbing and Crossing seas for Jesus! Here Am I. Send Me!

Hark the Voice of

ark! The voice of Jesus calling, “Who will go and work today? Fields are white, the harvest waiting, Who will bear the sheaves away?” Loud and long the Master callleth, Rich reward He offers free; Who will answer, gladly saying, “Here am I, O Lord, send me”?

If you cannot cross the ocean And the heathen lands explore, You can find the heathen nearer, You can help them at your door; If you cannot speak like angels, If you cannot preach like Paul, You can tell the love of Jesus, You can say He died for all. If you cannot me the watchman, Standing high on Zion’s wall, Pointing out the path to heaven, Offering life and peace to all; With your prayers and with your bounties You can do what Heaven demands, You can be like faithful Aaron, Holding up the prophet’s hands. While the souls of men are dying, And the Master calls for you, Let none hear you idly saying, “There is nothing I can do!” Gladly take the task He gives you, Let His work your pleasure be; Answer quickly when He calleth, “Here am I, O Lord, send me.”

he Missionary Spirit expressed in the song does not discriminate any work you can do for Jesus. It does suggest any work your best ability could afford for the Lord. As we do our service to the Master He never takes our individuality. Our gifts, our talents, our strengths and even our weaknesses are all for the glory of God. As we submit our nothingness to Him and offer our empty selves, the Master wil never fail to count any labor done for Him in humility of heart. Missionary work is anywhere and everywhere. It is not the profession that counts, it is not the length of the walk, it is not the amount, it is not even the length of time but it is only and only of what is in the heart. Work extra mile, extend a little kindness, give a hand and speak words of wisdom and cheer to people around you. ULADS opened the 2017 training with only but a faith that there would be a number of young people, married couples, senior SULADS and aged but willing to serve the Lord. A number of people called to serve the unreached of the deep mountains and of the farthest islands of South Philippines. On the first day for the very first time the good Lord had given us a great number of people. It was nothing but pure joy and thanksgiving as the SULADS staff beheld the dedication, zeal and sincerity of them. They could have chosen to be employed on different expertise they are good at. They could have chosen to just support. But in full selfless decision they stood for the call of God. And together they have endured and enjoyed the month long SULADS training. Day after day before the training culminated the people come and are added to the list. We needed more as the need is increasingly great but the Lord in His great wisdom had given us the very number He will work with this year. These groups had with them their wonderful conversion stories. They are stories of how the Lord had worked in their hearts to serve Him. Having them is like a having feast of testimonies - their downfall, struggles and victories in Jesus.

Their commitment is no joke. Their decision to live with the people who have a very different lifestyle than they have been used to is serious. To eat their food, to sleep in the same kind of house and to treat others us the most precious souls are but never easy things to do. There are about 83 missionaries now serving in the different SULADS mission schools. There is no need the good Lord had never supplied. The number He had sent to serve is the number He in His wisdom will serve Him. They are the number who said, “HERE AM I. SEND ME.

missionaries testify god’s faithfulness

“Well done, good and faithful servant!”

O

n April 21-22, 2017 2016 SULADS Missionaries in full joy had brought with them stories of God’s faithfulness and goodness. It was indeed a year of walking with the Lord in places where Jesus would have also trod. The program was highlighted by the message of discharge by Brother Lito Fronda- SULADS Canada on Friday Morning. The missionaries receieved a special token of a Plaque of Recognition with Certificates. The plaque stands the most significant as it is the first time for SULADS Main Office to give out to missionaries. It is a simple emblem of gratefulness and honor of the goodness of the Lord to the dedicated missionaries. This will stand as symbol of God’s miracles and divine leadings to our each of the missionaries. It will stand on one corner in their homes but it will be a sign of their committed dedication to the Lord’s work. The program was beautifully ended by the foot washing ceremony.

Then on the Sabbath, miracles upon miracles, success upon success and struggles upon struggles in different mission fields brought life to the whole Sabbath program. Missionaries are commissioned to bring the SULADS mission in their hearts wherever the good Lord shall plant them. The program ended with all our spirit revived! May the good Lord continue to sustain His promise as the faithful workers meet the world. Many decided to extend as many also had decided to move forward with what is to be done outside the volunteering sphere. Moving forward as an ambassador to the work of the unreached! For them who had decided to extend would be a year of new challenges and a year

SULADS missionary work is more than a work. It is life! It is Love! of renewed commitment.

hilippine Youth Conference (PYC) is an organization that hosts events with emphasis on Revival in these last days. The event happens yearly on different location around the Philippines. This event cater young people, now also adults and families seeking for meaning and revival in their lives. This year’s PYC was held in West Visayan Conference Headquarters, Iloilo City last May 31-June 4, 2017. There were about 600 people from all walks around the Philippines who have attended the event. The messages during the PYC were packed with emphasis on missions guided by the theme “THE APPEARING”. Thus, this youth conference became a hive for ministries who are seeking for prospect volunteers. Together with the many ministries who attended the event, SULADS also was given the privilege to promote and invite the young people to join the frontline work. Praying that the LORD of the harvest will send forth laborers through this army of youth. There are 6 SULADS missionaries who attended and we are praying for more SULADS to have this reving experience too.

t was a sacrifice! There was serious medical condition but there was passion and zeal to do the work of the Lord! There was our friend, mentor and father, DR. FREDD WEBB! June 1, 2017 Dr. Webb arrived in Cagayan de Oro City for the QUIET HOUR MINISTRY. His yearly visits for the GOSPEL OUTREACH had just been done some months ago. And this visit was never like his previous visits. This visit he was on his recovery period from a heart surgery and to the worse of all it was the onset of the declaration of the Martial Law in Mindanao. But who would stop a dedicated worker of the Lord to guard his post. To do the duty He has placed in his very hands. With fervor and ardent devotion to the Lord’s keepings

of his life, Dr. Webb managed to arrive in the Philippines with stable health condition. With this visit he took the opportunity to meet his children in SULADS. SULADS is like his child. He loves the SULADS Ministry so much. The Lord has used him with the rest of the pioneer leaders of SULADS to re-open this ministry. The ministry to the unreached is very dear to his and Ma’am Arlene’s heart. Up to this very moment he plays a vital role in the SULADS. He guides, counsels, rebukes and inspires the SULADS staffs.

The time with him was a time of special spiritual encouragement. We are blessed more than blessed with his words. His passion and dedication to the work is just so reviving. We look forward for the next year’s visit of our father in the Ministry. Thank you so much Dr. Webb for your time and sacrifices all for the coming of our Lord Jesus to be hastened.

ay 25-26, 2017 when the Martial Law has newly been declared, a group of Accountancy graduates who has just taken their CPA Board Exam from Davao City set foot Bukidnon to fulfill their mission to facilitate the feeding project of their team to Balogo Mission School in Balogo, Kalagangan, San Fernando, Bukidnon. It is their utmost desire to leave footprints of love in the hearts of the children in Balogo Mission School. It is not just a feeding program that has happened but also a giving of school supplies and pairs of slippers. There are about 150 students who have received the love gifts from the group. During the day of the feeding while waiting for the food to be served and the supplies to be ready for distribution some members of the group hake the opportunity to teach the children songs and finger plays. As you live your professional calling may you always have in your hearts a burden for missions and a burden to bless others with what God has blessed you! They deserve the light of salvation in Jesus too. The Muslims in Tawi-Tawi are our brethren too. So the SULADS shall go!”

“The Mangyan needed people to care for them. They needed a hand to hand in food, clothing and most specially love. We are doing this for love of these people looked down by the society because they have nothing but their primitive ways. AMR-Adventist Muslim Relations “We Seventh-day Adventists have an atomic bomb of truth in our hands. But how come we are working as if we have only a light bulb in our hands. The work to our brothers from teh tribe of Ishmael will continue to grow and will continue to inspire people to embrace our Muslim brothers and sisters. They are our brothers. They are our friends. They will defend us. They will protect us. They already did!

SULADS THAILAND Sulad Chlowe Manatalaba President SULADS Thailand

“Who will look out for the Mien, the Hmong, the Aka, the Kharin tribes. We have been in this ministry and we are igniting the spirit of SULADS in the land of SIAM. We are to care for them as we care for the Mnobos. They are precious souls too.”

Sulad Alejandro “Jhun” Cardeinte Supervisor / SULADS Missionary Program Coordinator Public School Teacher, Phayao, Thailand

S

ULADS Thailand is a faith-based, self-supporting ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church based in Thailand. Laying its ministries in the command of the Master in Luke 14:23, “And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.” This ministry bloomed from the hearts of faithful and dedicated SULADS missionaries from Mountain View College in their college days. In the desire to disciple and pass on the gift of training and missionary experience they endeavored to create a program for the Locals of Thailand where God placed them in their different fields of labors. Bearing the principle of Tent-making like the Apostle Paul they gave birth to SULADS Thailand. Local young people of Thailand and other neighboring South-East Asian countries can undergo missionary training and sexperience field work for at least one year.

Career Missionary Program (at least three-year service term contract), this is a long term missionary program open for couples from the Philippine or any part of the world to serve remote villages around Thailand and other neighboring countries. 3. Short-term missionary program where teachers around Thailand can have the opportunities to experience village immersion and be revived in their passion for mission in a limited time frame.

SULADS INTERNATIONAL / USA “There is a vast population of the unreached people groups in the remotest mountains and seas. There is a great work to be done. There is a great number of workers to be sent. SULADS by the grace of God will coninue to volunteer and labor for these unreached souls of the hinter lands.

Since 2007

T

he mission of the Sulads International is to reach out in service to un-reached peoples of the world, providing them with formal and non-formal education designed to alleviate illiteracy, poverty, and disease, while

promoting social awareness, giving due respect to local traditions, beliefs, customs, aspirations, and interests, so that all may see the value and beauty of their cultural heritage and way of life as purposed by their Creator

Like the Manobo children in Northern Mindanao (Philippines), Navajo children love stories. Many were taught their traditional stories that thunder storms is the male rain while the female rain is gentler one with a calming effect. They were taught that if you have no respect for the rain and your thoughts and word are bad while it rains then the sacred force (gods?) will punish you. The Navajo tribe hold ceremonies to restore the harmony and balance in nature. - Taken from SI Webpage

Health Post Sulad Liz Darnelle T. Ang SULADS Nurse

“Our People in the mountains needed so much medical care. The work to be done for the health condition of every children, mothers and adults needed great attention. This work in the Health Department of the SULADS work is still in its beginnings. I pray that more and more people will see the need as we continue to move forward in the missions.

LITTLE LOVE FOR MARAWI!

I

magine how you would feel if you are a mother with 2 children, one barely turning 3 years old and the other a new born baby when you hear that you have to leave your home immediately as there is a terrorist attack on your city. You rush and grab a few pair of clothes and diapers for your children and some essentials and stuff it all into your bag. Then you rush out of the house with your baby in your arms, the bag, and your other 3 year old in the other hand. You meet some relatives on the way, but you wonder where your husband and other love ones could be during this crisis. Your heart is pounding as you reach the evacuation center, where many families are displaced. You try contacting those that are still left in the city, but there is no word. All you could do now is pray for your loved ones. As a nurse myself I saw the great need of babies, children and adults in terms of health care. I saw how much a sacrifice it would take to help these people. I saw that one needed to feel love for them to be able to spare them some help. On June 6 and 15, 2017 SULADS responded and gave a hand and organized the “MARAWI RELIEF OPERATION” where we raised funds to buy stuffs needed by the victims of the siege in Marawi. On the eve of June 6, we were able to distribute 17 sacks of rice, can beans, sardines, noodles, boiled eggs, and 3 sacks of relief

clothes to about 300 Maranao families in Maria Cristina Evacuation Center. When we saw there were many pregnant and lactating mothers, we saw their need for vegetables and fruits for nutrients to keep healthy and strong in a congested, crowded gym. So the next week on June 15, we came with 350 packs of mats, mosquito nets, and vegetable packs to Balo-i Evacuation Center to be given to the 190 families. We included buckets, brooms, dust pans, and toilet brushes to help with the sanitation at the evacuation center. A team from Manila Adventist Medical Center headed by Joel Clemaco came to have an ocular visit for future medical mission opportunities and to give toys, school bags, and supplies to the distraught children. We heard the soldiers in Marawi City were asking for fresh vegetables, so we sent lunch boxes and the remaining fresh vegetables in sacks to the troops in the field. We also visited, encouraged, and gave white t-shirts to the wounded soldiers in Adventist Medical Center – Iligan. Though SULADS may only be the helping hands to assist of those victims in Marawi, it would not be possible without the many donors and supporters who sent funds, food, goods, and vehicles for those who are in desperate need during this crisis. No words can express how thankful we, SULADS, are to God for giving us this opportunity to share a little love to those in Marawi.

SULADS NURSE’S MISSION SCHOOL VISITS * Datalkadi, Tasiman, Lake Sebu, 150 T’boli students are schooling in the church. They need to build the South Cotabato (Re-opening) The T’boli villagers get their sources of water from the creek. They do not have any toilets, so they dig holes or go to the river to get rid of their waste. Need to reconstruct the church as it is already leaning over. They also need to build the teacher’s cottage & school.

* Kolongbong, Lamfugon, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato (Pioneering) The children and teens have never been in school before. The village has a good source of water with pipes brought close to the teacher’s cottage with 2 toilets. Currently, the

school.

* Kilogib, Midtuangok, Senator Ninoy Aquino, Sultan Kudarat (Pioneering) It’s the first time to enter a pure, peace-loving Dulangon Manobo Village. They have a good source of spring water similar to Sto. Domingo at SCHSL. They need 3 big drums or something to make a reservoir at the source and then have pipes and bring it close to the school and teacher’s cottage site. No toilets in the village. The church has posts, benches, and roof, but there are no walls. Need to build teacher’s cottage and school.

Dear SULADS MISSIONARY PIONEERS, Thank you for the big step of faith you have taken. There was a vast choice of comforts that had surrounded you but you had chosen the life to be with the lumads. That decision to live among the unreached had lead many more young people into this ministry. Thank you for your zeal and passion. Thank you for your sacrifices and love for the people in the mountains and the islands. That big step of faith for the lumads is already an epitome of self-sacrificing service-An epitome that continue to inspire the future generation. Your labors of love continue to inspire us. Your labors for their souls will continue to encourage us. We are now gleaning the fruits of your labors. Your stories are treasures. Your miracles are testimonies of God’s faithfulness. Your life is a journey with God. Your faithfulness is a storehouse of God’s blessings. We pray to keep the missionary zeal. We pray to keep the love to the unreached. We pray to pass on the Missionary Spirit to the generation next to us. We pray to keep on the labors for the souls in the hinterlands. We are looking forward in that big reunion of SULADS in that heavenly home the Lord has prepared. We are looking forward in that great reunion with our students in our mission schools in heaven. We are looking forward when the Master will tell us, “Well Done, My Good and Faithful Servant.” Love and Prayers, Present Generation of SULADS Missionaries

ever commit the mistake MR. CULTURE SAYS the hand of the of shaking opposite sex! This is taboo in Islam, those that are not careful might just pay a huge price for it. In Islam, women especially, are well protected with a level of respect. Muslim men would even hardly expose their women in public. Thus, whenever an opposite sex approaches a couple or a woman alone, eyes around are watching with the keenest interest if this culture is observed at all. Beware to never cross the line, better veer yourself away from harm’s way.
