I have spent recent years living in Chandigarh and attaining a Bachelor’s degree at I.K.G.Punjab Technical University. It has been a very fruitful time for me in terms of discovering and developing personal interests and principal guidelines for developing design concepts. The methodological approach of my graduation studio, Complex Projects, required working on different scales, promoted independent thinking and reflecting on broader cultural, social, political and economic context. I have been particularly interested in emerging collective spaces and socio - political conditions that influence them. My studies enabled me to apply heuristic research methods and broaden knowledge within my fields of interest, which I would love to carry on in my profession with full passion and enthusiasm.

INTRODUCTION Guwahati is the capital city of Assam and the largest city in the North East region Situated at 26°10 north latitude and 92°49 east longitude, on the banks of the Brahmaputra River.

It is the largest commercial, industrial and educational centre of the N-E region.

The city is located towards the South-eastern side of Kamrup district, surrounded by Nalbari district in the North, Darrang and Marigaon districts in the East, Meghalaya State in the south and Goalpara and Barpeta districts in the West.

The city is situated on an undulating plain with varying altitudes of 49.5 m to 55.5 m above Mean Sea Level (MSL). The Southern and Eastern sides of the city are surrounded by hillocks. Apart from the hilly tracts, swamps, marshes, water bodies like DeeporBeel, Silpukhuri, D i g h a l i P u k h u r i , BorsolaBeel and SilsakooBeel etc. also cover the city (City Development Plan, JNNURM)1.

The total population of Guwahati UA/Metropolitan region is 968, 549. As per the data released by Govt. of India for Census 2011, Guwahati is an Urban Agglomeration coming under the category of Class I UAs/Towns.

The city is governed by Municipal Corporation and is situated in Guwahati Urban Region.

ROAD NETWORKS

BUILT INFRASTRUCTURE IN DIFFERNT ZONES

In order to achieve the above objectives, following hypotheses were tested in the study area.

1) The mighty river Brahmaputra and three rivulets become ineffective due to topographic constraints in Greater Guwahati during flood season every year.

2) Water level of Brahmaputra, equals or exceeds to the danger level almost every year.

At times all three rivulets, Bondajan, Bharalu and Khanajan receive water from their catchment area and inundate lowlying areas of most part of the city.

3) Rainfall intensity is higher during monsoon period and causes water logging in some parts of the city.

4) Population pressure over limited space and encroachment upon the land haphazardly became serious problem for proper planning.

5) Environmental degradation by hill cutting,earthfilling,deforestation together with water pollution and air pollution etc., turned Guwahati into ecological imbalanced region.

6) There is a grading of influence from Guwahati city to the surroundings, i.e.

Guwhati’s influence decreases as the distance from the city increases

Guwahati, one of the ancient cities of India, was known as Pragjyotishpur in the days of the epics and the kingdom was known as Kamrupa in the Puranas and the Tantras (Gait, 1981).

The boundary of Guwahati, during eighteenth century extended from the Bharalu in the west to the Latashil Chowky in the east, Chalabeel in the south to the Brahmaputra on the north, covering an area of six km in length and four km in breadth (Tamuly, 1992).

With the coming of the British, Guwahati began to grow as a modern town. The town was connected by railway line with rest of India in 1890. During the 1850’s the town had 7,000 persons, which rose to 11,492 in 1871. In 1874, the town had eight municipal wards.

[ BENGALURU INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CENTRE ] SWEVEN WITH FORESIGHT

Thesis Project “Sweven with foresight” is the subtitle for the design which is phrase that is made from two different words, sweven (a dream or vision) with foresight(future) This research project explores the possibility of applying bamboo as a primary material in architecture.The proposed design is for Bengaluru International Convention Centre, located in Yelahanka, India. The facility is a complex of three distinctly different buildings, dedicated to experimentation, innovation, demonstration and promotion of sustainable construction. The project investigates how such a facility can be constructed by predominantly using bamboo. The Centre is necessary because the current, carbon int`ensive buildingpractices in India are not sustainable in the long term.

[ SMART VILLAGE REALISATION INSITUTE ] PLANNING SMART INCUBATION LABS

Final year Project Idea is to create a smart village in all the context of living. The following given are the points on which the smart villages are described: Social, Skilled and Simple Moral, Methodical and Modern, Aware, Adaptive and Adjusting, Responsive and Ready, Techno-Savvy and Transparent Using vernacular typology for the area of construction will be done. It means the forms like old bently huts and using the available material.Major openings towards the south direction which allows winter sun to enter the building keeping the building elevated from the ground to provide easy drainage in the slope as the rainfall is more on the northern side and the site selected is over the northern slope due to which the amount of rainfall will more than the southern slope.

Fourth year Project The idea os tp create a multi speciality hospital in its best form.the following are the points on which the hospital has been envisioned: methodologically aware, adaptive and adjustable according to the scenario. It is responsive, ready, tech savy and transparent.

The construction will be done keeping the several departments(EMERGENCY, IPD, OPD, Service Block And Medical College ) in mind. This will allow several departments to function in coordination with onw another without disturbing the actual array of work. The staff and common entry has been skillfully segregated.

[ INTER STATE BUS TERMINAL ] PIVOT

Fourth year Project The motive is to build an effective and well planned bus terminal. The following points would describe the projectinafewwords:userfriendly,crowdmanagement,technicallyequippedandwellregulatedtransport.

The planning has been done keeping in mind that there are mainly two segments of crowd.

Intercity and intra city. Hence both are aligned separately and work separately without barging into one another! There is a fully equipped servicing center cum workshop for immediate repair and servicing of busses. Alongside there are two different entry/exit points so as to prevent jamming.

Fourth year works This internship taught me that "God lies in intricate details", hence the name!

The first hand experience of working on real time plans for clients made a difference and made me feel responsible. I have intensively worked on Block layouts, Working drawings of plans, elevation sections as well as skin plans and skin sections.

Sanitary And electrical drawings too were a part of my job. And after working on all of these I went ahead to gain alot of knowledge in furniture layout and landscape architecture.

[ INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LIGHTING DESIGNERS] IALD WORKSHOP

Fourth year workshop IALD (International Association of Lighting Designers) organised a lighting design Workshop in CHANDIGARH COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE ,along with mondo*arc India and ISLE. The theme of the workshop was light up college areas with the help different different light suppliers and divided all students into groups, So that we can gain a breif knowledge about different types of lights used in exterior to enhance the value of exterior in night also. It was based on ideaology of learning by doing (practical workshop). We were provided the entrance porch and exterior facade and front to making it look more fancy in night first designer’s asked to develop our story so that it can define our lighting scheme and the theme was Ages behind starting from past when sculptures were there to end up with the upcoming future .

Fourth year Project The Design of Housing was a studio problem of 6th semester.Housing was to be designed for 60 3BHK apartments, 80 2BHK & 40 EWS. The design approach was from the bottom.As Concern to design the concept of design was developed from a square developing further by dividing square into the nine parts and then removing three to make shape like steps but actually the all three diagonal sqaures are bedroom to get proper air,light & ventilation.The design was structurally developed by using grid to make it more simple and stable by providing strength.

[ THE GIRLS HOSTEL ] ADOBE

Third year Project The Design of Hostel was a studio problem of 5th semester. Hostel was to be designed for architectural girls college. As Concern to design the concept of design was developed by studying Bauhaus university designed by Walter gropius after studying his work I decided to plan and planning was one single seater room and another double seater room single seater with recessed balconies. The use of recessed balconies created a elevation of checkboard which allows a single seater to spend a time with the free open environment and these rooms for designed for higher 3rd,4thand 5th year student & alternatel Juniors were assigned rooms.

Major openings towards the south direction which allows winter sun to enter the building keeping the building elevated from the ground to provide easy drainage in the slope as the rainfall is more on the northern side and the site selected is over the northern slope due to which the amount of rainfall will more than the southern slope
