We finally came to judge the female championship, with the class winners coming forward. All three judges selected the first and second placed Pexhill Len sired shearling ewes as Champion and Reserve Champion. genetics having been used recently. All the entries were shorn and allowed a maximum of a centimetre of wool and had passed an inspection by ARCO before the show started. There were five age classes before us. The first class was for ewe lambs aged between 10 and 12 months with six entries, and then the 12-15 month class had 34 entries. This class was split into two divisions and after placing the top 15 in each section the judges had to select a winner from a head to head. Firstly between the two section winners, then between the remaining first and the incoming second, until we had chosen our top fifteen places for the age group. After each class, the judge who was closest to the final placing was asked to give his reasons why he did so. Fortunately, I had been

The following morning we started on the rams, with six age classes before us. Again the biggest class was the 12-15 month age group, with 35 entries split into two sections and finishing with the head to head judging. When we came to the male championships we again all agreed on the Champion, a two year old, and then selected the top four rams from the show. It was a very pleasant surprise to find our afterwards that they were all sired by Perrinpit Kernel. So, in the end I was pleased that I had two co-judges who also agreed with my selection.
