CATALOGUE EWES

Lots 202 - 230

Myfyr A Evans Tan‑yr‑accar, Llanrhaeadr, Denbigh, Denbighshire, LL16 4PH Reg. Flock Code A12 Rhaeadr

This is the first major reduction sale since 1993. This consignment from the Rhaeadr Flock, established in 1979, is part of a genuine reduction. In the past the flock has achieved many Champions and Interbreed Champions at County Shows and the RWAS plus Champion and Reserve Interbreed Champions at the RHAS. We have not shown in the last 3 years due to time away from the farm. We have always tried to breed sheep which are good on their legs, good tops and carcase with style. In the past 6 years 127 rams have been registered with the Rhaeadr prefix. The gimmers have not had any concentrate or green crops from July 2013 except the month of February and before the sale. Flock Health Status: • The flock is in the Heptavac P system • Vaccinated with Toxovax. • Scrapie Monitored • The sale females have not been pushed and should go on and breed well with having some of the best bloodlines within the breed. Look forward to seeing you all at the sale. Myfyr Reference to past sires: Cairness First Flight – private purchase in 2004, bred a lot of good sheep into the flock including Rhaeadr Rossi, Edinburgh Champion 2006, sold to the Baileys flock for 70,000gns. Castlewellan Cruz – purchased at Edinburgh 2005 for 7,000gns. His sons sold up to 5,000gns with many more in the 1,000gn to 4,000gs bracket. He himself won Breed Champion RWAS 2006.

9

Thurston Calzaghie – purchased at Edinburgh in 2007 for 1,600gns, his first 10 sons averaged 3,200gns including Rhaeadr Obsession which sold for 11,000gns to the Rookery flock. Baileys BMW – purchased at Edinburgh 2009 for 8,000gns. He won Breed and Interbreed Champion RHAS 2010 and also Breed Champion RWAS. His sons have sold up to 14,000gns with the top four sons averaging 10,762gns. First daughters to be sold by this great ram. Baileys Brigadier II – purchased at Edinburgh 2009 for 7,500gns. His sons have sold up to 8,000gns and daughters to £4,000.

Ardlea Arbennig

Reference to Service Sires: Ardlea Arbennig – purchased at Stirling 2011 for the record price of 90,000gns. Unfortunately only had a few lambs by him the first year but has certainly made up for it after. His sons have sold up to 18,000gns, with top 7 averaging 8,300gns and many more between 1,000gns and 4,000gns. There are 21 of his daughters in the sale and 12 in lamb to him (first daughters to be sold).

Rhaeadr The Real McCoy

Rhaeadr The Real McCoy – is a son of Ardlea Arbennig and is one of the best lambs bred at Rhaeadr. 3dam was mother of the 70,000gns Rhaeadr Rossi and some very good ewe lambs have been retained in the flock. His two top sons were sold at Stirling for 5,200gns each. There is one daughter in the sale and six in lamb to him

10

Rookery Best of the Best

Rookery Best of the Best – during May time we went down to visit the Rookery flock. We were very impressed with the flush of lambs off the Conveth ewe, sired by the 21,000gns Cairness Great Expectations. CGE's dam is full sister to BMW, gdam was a Rhaeadr Rossi daughter (the best lamb seen 2014). He is a very powerful lamb, good on all four legs, great top and gigot and tight skin. Embryo brother won Breed Champion at Three Counties Show, also Champion at the National Sale and sold for 10,000gns. We would like to thank Chris and Sally for a chance to buy a half share of The Best. 6 ewes and 4 gimmers in lamb to him are in the sale.

Dol-llys Domain

Dol-llys Domain – another good lamb bought privately, born end of February. Very smart and correct lamb, good on all four legs with a great top. Sired by Rhaeadr Royal which was a very good son of BMW. Royals dam was a daughter of Rossi. Gdam was purchased from the Baileys flock for 6,500gns. 15 ewes in lamb to Domain at the sale.

I & J Barbour

Rosefield Farm, Annan, Dumfriesshire, DG12 6QX Reg. Flock Code FHT Solwaybank

The Solwaybank flock was founded in 1991 with top females being purchased from the best flocks of the era. They included Cairness, Fordafourie, Fyvie, Glenisla, Greyhill, Kirkton and Muiresk. In 2012 the very successful Ewebank flock that was owned by Judith Barbour was amalgamated into the Solwaybank flock and everything is now run as one flock. Over the years purchases of many of the top rams have been made, these include the 62,000gns Cairness Castello, 32,000gns Cairness Carisma, 30,000gns Glenhead Grandmaster, 30,000gns Stockton Savannah, 28,000gns Strathisla Red McGregor and 21,000gns Bridgeview Prince of Wales and many, many more. The most influential ram used in the flock would be the 7500gn Glenisla Grimaldi that bred Solwaybank Ranger and JOD F16 the Great Yorkshire Show Interbreed Champion and Reserve Interbreed Champion at the Royal Show. Glenisla Grimaldi proved to be the perfect foil for our previous purchase Muiresk Powerpacker who was purchased for the then record price of 13,000gns as an aged ram.

Solwaybank Eva Jane

Following on from these great rams was always the challenge but when we bought the 62,000gns Cairness Castello we found one of the most consistent breeding rams ever and his females have been the perfect match for the 12,000gns Rhaeadr Rastafari who has bred our two time Royal Highland Show Champion ewe Solwaybank Eva Jane and the 17,000gns Solwaybank Champion who was the 2013 National Sale Champion and sold to Thrunton and Widdrington flocks.

In the last two years Solwaybank has had the 2013 Sire of the Year title with Solwaybank Skyfall and the Reserve Sire of the Year with his twin brother Solwaybank Pounstretcher in 2014.
