70-year-old man who rapes young woman still scot-free By CHRIS V. PANGANIBAN, Regional Editor-Caraga

SAN Francisco, Agusan del Sur––A 70-year-old man accused of allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in a remote village here on August 30 still go scot free because he was untouchable and toughie in the community with strong clout from the village chairman. But Senior Inspector Ephraim Detuya , local police chief, has assured to fast track the formal filing of the case so that they can secure an arrest warrant for the suspect Romeo Castromayor even as the victim’s mother, afraid of repercussions, expressed unwillingness to pursue the case and went on hiding. Romeo Plaga, Barangay Kagawad of New Visayas, said he earned the ire from the suspect who is a close buddy of Barangay Captain Mariano Claridad and whose son is the barangay

treasurer because he was the one vigorously following up the case by bringing the victim to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office to facilitate the medical check up at the Municipal Health Center which turned out to be positive. Plaga said the suspect personally confronted him and threatened to kill him a day after the incident for his involvement in pursuing the charges and several times Castromayor would tell people around the neighbourhood that if things get worse he will shoot him. The suspect is said to be armed with a shotgun which he openly wields in public during social gatherings to showboat that nobody would dare to mess up with him not even barangay officials as if he rules the village s in Gestapo-like manner.

It’s just like the OTOP or 'One Town, One Product' program which the provincial government is promoting as part of our livelihood and tourism campaigns," the governor stated. Perater has turned-over the fruit seedlings to Siargao community environment officer IñigoCollantes. He was assisted by forest ranger Almond Edera and environment officer LopercioBentoso.
