Dance Sport Competition 2015 held in Ozamiz City By Joe Palabao, Editor at Large

Eleven (11) lovely and versatile couples participated in the well- attended and most watched Open Invitational ‘Dance Sport’ competition held at the City Hall’s Ground of the City of Ozamiz last July 9, 2015 at one o’clock in the afternoon. Despite the drizzling of the rain, the dance floor became so hot as the couples from Ozamiz City, Cagayan de Oro City, Iligan City, Tangub City, Pagadian City and Zamboanga City danced to the beat of the breathtaking Latin Zumba, Rhumba, ChaCha and Jive dance moves which made the crowd so amazed, awed and mesmerized. The couples performed as a group to the beat of Zumba, Rhumba, Cha-Cha and Jive to showcase their talent on the dance floor, after which, each couple performed to the four (4) Latin dance genre for the judges to select the best in Zumba, Rhumba, Cha-Cha and Jive. With a total of twenty four (24) breathtaking, mesmerizing and beautiful dance performances the eleven couples were trimmed down to Top 5 Dance Sport Competitors. The Top 5 were lovely and sweet couples coming from the City of Golden Friendship-Cagayan de Oro City, the Historical, Cultural and Pilgrimage Destination of the country-Ozamiz City- Little Hongkong of the South-Pagadian City and the Beautiful City of Zamboanga. Top 5 couples again were

requested to perform the four (4) Latin beat to the tune of Zumba, Rhumba, Cha-Cha and Jive for the judges to select the Top 3 of the Dance Sport Competition. They performed with finesse, awesome, loving and tender moves as a couple. Adjudged as Champion of the Dance Sport Competition was the lovely couple from the Beautiful City of Zamboanga, 2nd RunnerUp was the sweet couple of the Host City-Ozamiz and 1st Runner-up was the beautifully dressed couple from the City of Golden Friendship-Cagayan de Oro City. The Open Invitational Dance Sport competition was sponsored by the Tourism Office of the Local Government Unit of Ozamiz City through its dynamic Tourism Officer-Jaime Tomada with the support of the ever active Hon. Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog, Sr., and was organized by Ms. Lani dela Vega. The competition was part of the 67th Charter Day Anniversary of Ozamiz City and Fiesta of Nuestra Senora dela Concepcion y del Triunfo every July 16. MABUHAY ANG OZAMIZ CITY AND HAPPY FIESTA!

Pascua. Regional Director Butch E. Chan 111 lauded the Chamber in their efforts as industry and business integrators for development especially in highlighting the tourism potentials of Iligan City for competitiveness in the Region, Mindanao and throughout the country. He further said that putting Iligan City in the global tourism map is to drumbeat the majestic and beautiful Maria Cristina Falls as the Mother of all waterfalls in the Philippines and make initiatives in further promoting Iligan City as one of the best tourist destination in the

country today. Furthermore, Maria Cristina is known as the “Mother of Industry” and Foundation of Progress”. It is the most resplendent among the falls that is 320 feet high and it is the veritable source of industrial power in the city. With the fast growing development of Northern Mindanao-Director Butch further said that Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation of Iligan City, Inc., (CCIFII) can help boost the tourism industry of the city by initiating activities like hosting conventions, avail of tourism incentives, help market the tourist destination of the city and exhibits of Iligan known and best seller products. In an interview, Iligan Chamber of Commerce President Ms. Emily M. Pascua told Mindanao Daily News that they are now on the process of drafting for the creation of Iligan City

Tourism Council and work closely with the Local Government Unit Tourism Office of the City. It is through this that CCIFII can focus in highlighting the tourism potentials of Iligan City and be more competitive in the tourism industry of the region and throughout the country. The holding of the 9th Business Night of Iligan Chamber of Commerce connotes success of all their efforts in bringing together businessmen in the city into one common cause for the continued development of Iligan. The well attended 9th Business Night of CCIFII culminated with the induction of the new members of the Chamber by Director Catalino ‘Butch’ E.
