All set for DOH ‘Pilipinas Go4Health Movement’ CAGAYAN de Oro City-The “Pilipinas Go4Health,” an advocacy health promotion, would kick off on August 16, 2013 in Northern Mindanao, the Department of Health (DOH) regional office announced on Wednesday. Go4Health stands for the four health campaigns namely, Go Smoke-free, Go Sustansya, Go Sigla and Go Slow sa Tagay. The advocacy focuses on the promotion of a healthy lifestyle by making a personal commitment to physical activity, proper nutrition, and anti-smoking, and alcohol consumption, the DOH said. “Go Smoke-free” is due to the concern of the health department on a survey that 10 Filipinos die every hour from smoking and secondhand smoking. According to the World Health Organization, the trend towards foods high in sugar and fat in the Philippines underscores double burden of under and overnutrition which the DOH wants to address through its “Go Sustansiya” program.

HE City Council has unanimously confirmed the appointment of lawyer Roy Hilario Raagas as the new City Administrator but deferred the confirmation of two other officials pending review of the documents submitted.
The confirmation occurred during the Fourth regular session of the 16th City Council on Monday while the appointments of lawyer Beda Joy B. Elot as City Legal Officer II and Glenn C. Bañez as City Information Officer II were deferred. Ragas were glad that his appointment as City Administrator was finally approved although he lamented the delay. Vice Mayor Ian Acenas earlier expressed disappointment of Raagas Memorandum Order detailing personnel to other offices sans confirmation by the City Council. Acenas argued that without the confirmation by the City Council, any Memorandum Order issued by Raagas were not in accordance with the law. He said that the Civil Service Commissions require the City Council to approve the appointment prior to confirm | page 11

CAGAYAN de Oro City--Local police here is conducting a probe on the alleged suicide of a worker at his rented house in the city’s downtown area Tuesday evening. Junior Moro Nicomedes, 48, of Dakal,Zamboanga Sibugay, was found by one of his board mates hanging by the door of their rented room past 9:00 p.m. Tuesday. Police investigators said that the victim used a shoelace in the suicide by tying it around his neck while the other end was tied at the upper door jam before executing a sudden kneeling slump that caused his death. The board mate who reported the incident to the police said that the victim was overheard calling his wife on Sunday telling her that she would not be seeing him again. “We have no idea that that call would lead to his tragic incident,” the board mate, also a laborer told police. Police said that the wife of the victim was reportedly on her way to Cagayan de Oro City to claim the body. Nicomedes, who reportedly left 12 children, was one of the hundreds of laborers from neighboring cities and provinces who flocked to this premier capital of Northern Mindanao in search of menial jobs in the construction industry.
