SAN Francisco, Agusan del Sur––Residents of the province will experience at least two to three hours of daily rotational power interruption next month with the expected decline in the distribution of hydropower plants in Mindanao at the peak of hot summer season.

Engr. Emmanuel Galarse, general manager of Agusan del Sur Electric Cooperatve (ASELCO), however, said the power curtailment could be reduced back to just an hour a day if the coal-fired power plants in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental will resume operation in May 1. Galarse said Mindanao is facing a 186 megawatt deficiency when the STEAG coal-fired power plants in

Misamis Oriental shut down last February 27 since the National Power Corporation could only supply 767 megawatt from the total of 916 megawatt requirement to make the power situation stable. Consumers are presently experiencing an hour-long daily rotational brown out, which had no definite time schedules as it rely only on

the power outlook published daily on the website of National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, the main supplier of electricity in the province. Galarse admitted residents will have to pay more on their monthly bills starting this month as ASELCO is getting more energy supply of more costly dieselpowered plants due to the shortage of power supply from hydropower plants. He said the Pulangi hydropower plants in Bukidnon and Agus hydropower plants in Lanao del Sur have already reduced its distribution of electricity in the province to just 30 percent from 56 percent during normal months . Galarse said ASELCO will have no choice than to get electricity from dieselpowered plants to cushion the impact of the expected pestering long hours of power curtailment in Mindanao expected to get worse next month. As consolation to the consumers, ASELCO has refunded a 5 centavo per kilowatt hour from their monthly bills after the Energy Regulatory Commission granted their petition from the overcharged bill incurred by power supplier Therma Marine, Inc. from October 2012 to January 2013. Some P7.6 million will be refunded to the consumers starting this month that will last up to six months.

Approval of NGCP’s 10-year transmission plan is vital Approving NGCP’s 10year Transmission Development Plan (TDP) is in order because it is vital and necessary to the country’s electricity needs for the next ten years. The Department of Energy is challenged to act on the TDP favourably if we want to ensure the stability of our country’s energy and power resources towards the next decade. NGCP, as the country’s sole electric transmission service provider, is commendable for its nationwide presentation of the TDP to various stakeholders.. Indeed, we recommend its approval. Defined in R.A. 9136 or the Energy Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA), TDP “refers to the plan of managing the transmission system via efficient planning for the expansion, upgrading, rehabilitation, repair and maintenance of power resources. It is to be prepared and implemented by TransCo or its Buyer or Concessionaire (NGCP).”

In preparing the TDP, NGCP has consulted well with power sector participants, for the Department of Energy’s (DOE) approval. The TDP, which is a 10-year plan updated annually, will then be integrated to DOE’s Power Development Plan and Philippine Energy Plan to create a comprehensive program for the country’s energy requirements. In preparing the TDP, NGCP has consulted stakeholders such as D OE, TransCo, Grid Management Committee (GMC), Philippine Electricity Market Corporation (PEMC), generation companies, distribution utilities, and concerned organizations through a series of public consultations. Three public consultations were held in Davao, Cebu, and Alabang on March 26, 28, and April 1 respectively. The TDP outlined the ongoing and future trans-

mission projects in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao for the period 2014 to 2023. The transmission projects in the pipeline are also expected to address issues on the entry of new generation plants, projected load growth, transmission congestion, system reliability and power quality, and interconnection between major islands. Aside from putting up new transmission backbones, NGCP will also rehabilitate and repair existing transmission lines and substation equipment, and upgrade their system. All the projects will be implemented after the Energy Regulatory Commission’s (ERC) approval. “We intend to create a transmission development plan that is responsive to the needs, not just of our direct customers, but of the thousands of industries dependent on electricity. This is also one of the ways for NGCP to allow wider

market competition by making the grid friendly and accommodating to new power generators,” explained NGCP President Henry Sy, Jr. NGCP is a privatelyowned cor p oration in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the countr y’s power grid. It transmits highvoltage electricity through “power superhighways” that include the interconnected system of transmission lines, towers, substations, and related assets. NGCP’s regular maintenance activities, expansion projects, and typhoon restoration are aimed at enhancing the reliability and quality of electricity delivered to grid-connected customers like generators, distributors, and large industries. The power consumer is the topmost beneficiary of this undertaking. Let NGCP’s plan be acted upon immediately to assure the public of a stable power resource.

one hectare for rural land. RA 8179, Section 10 specifies entitlements and condition for land acquisition for investment purposes with a maximum area of 5,000 square meters for urban land and a maximum area of three hectares for rural land. Another important question came up: Do the rules and regulations on land ownership and acquisition also apply to individuals having dual citizenship? Well, as provided under the 1987 Philippine Constitution, a Filipino citizen is entitled to purchase land and other properties and engage in

business. There is no limit in terms of area or size of land and real property, he/ she could acquire/purchase under his/her name. This right would now apply to former natural-born Filipinos, who have re-acquired Philippine Citizenship under Republic Act 9225. Fact is, and this is very important and understanding: Foreigners can’t own land in the Philippines. Our Philippine spouse can do it. In addition: honestly, I do not have a problem with it! +++ Email me: doringklaus@ gmail.com or follow me in Facebook or Twitter or visit www.germanexpatinthephilippines.blogspot. com or tune in to “Classics with Klaus Doring”, Sundays from 9 to 11 AM or as encore presentation from 7 to 9 PM on 104.3 FM Edge Radio Davao or via www.myradiostream. com/edgedavao.

Land ownership in the Philippines

I DECIDED to move to Davao City for good. I consider the Philippines as one of the most livable places in the world - a long time before reaching my pensioner’s age. One important thing has to be discussed before: Where would my family and I live? Of course, in our very own house and land. How could this work? My wife, a Filipina, is now a naturalized German citizen. Can she - or, could she acquire and own land in the Philippines? YES, natural-born Filipinos, who have acquired foreign citizenship, can still own land in the Philippines - but within the limits specified by law. Article XII, Section 8 of the Philippine Constitution provides, that a natural-born citizen of the Philippines, who has lost his or her Philippine citizenship, may be a transferee of private lands, subject to limitations by law. Article XII, Section 7

Have my say Klaus Doring entitles Filipinos to own and acquire lands through hereditary succession, i.e. by virtue of inheritance from a blood relation. The laws on land ownership by natural-born Filipinos, who have lost their Philippine citizenship, are governed by the Batas Pambansa Blg. 185, which was enacted in March 1982, and by Republic Act 8179, which amended the Foreign Investment Act of 1991. BP 185 stipulates the guidelines on land ownership for purposes of establishment of residence with a maximum area of 1,000 square meters for urban land and maximum area of

Uy cites needs for zero waste

By IRENE ANIBONG and DODO CANOY Contributors

VILLANUEVA, Misamis Oriental––Second district Rep. Juliette Uy will implement a new project that would lessen the volumes of waste being dumped to landfill. Rep. Uy said the town of Villanueva has already been implementing the zero waste disposal. Despite the fact that Villanueva town is host to various industrial plants, the neophyte lawmaker said the surroundings are cleaned, including the seas, because the local government unit itself under the administration of Mayor Julio Uy sees-to-it that the law on solid waste management is complied with. Wit h t his, R ep. Uy said wastes from industrial plants, households, and even from other establishments are no longer brought to sanitary landfills. Instead, she added, the wastes are recycled. These, she said, have become the source of livelihood of the local residents in Villanueva town. Rep. Uy said that some products that were recycled from industrial plants include bricks, pavers, hollow blocks, paper products, rugs, fertilizers, and many others. These products are indeed helping local residents earn an extra-income, said the lady lawmaker. Today, the local government of Villanueva is working hard to process the wastes from plastics, cellophane, and other recyclable wastes into incomegenerating.

Rep. Uy urged everyone to practice zero waste disposal as it is not only income-generating but it also signifies everyone’s concern to protect the Mother Earth. Zero waste Zero waste is a philosophy that encourages the redesign of resource life cycles so that all products are reused. No trash is sent to landfills and incinerators. The recommended process is one similar to the way that resources are reused in nature. A working definition of zero waste, often cited by experts in the field originated from a working group of the Zero Waste International Alliance in 2004. Zero Waste is a goal that is ethical, economical, efficient and visionary, to guide people in changing their lifestyles and practices to emulate sustainable natural cycles, where all discarded materials are designed to become resources for others to use. Zero Waste means designing and managing products and processes to systematically avoid and eliminate the volume and toxicity of waste and materials, conserve and recover all resources, and not burn or bury them. Implementing Zero Waste will eliminate all discharges to land, water or air that are a threat to planetary, human, animal or plant health. Zero Waste refers to waste management and planning approaches which emphasize waste prevention as opposed to end of pipe waste management. It is a whole systems approach that aims for a massive change in the way materials See WASTE, page 6b

Megaworld’s profit up by 22% to P9.03b in 2013 Strong residential sales, high rental income boost company’s profit Megaworld Corporation, the Philippines’ leading property developer and the no. 1 office developer and landlord, posted a net income of P9.03-billion (inclusive of P760-M nonrecurring gain) in 2013, 22 percent higher than in 2012 due to strong residential sales from its various townships, particularly in Newport City, Uptown Bonifacio, McKinley Hill and Eastwood City; and higher leasing income from its office and retail portfolio. In 2012, the company posted P7.41-billion net income that was also attributed to strong sales from its residential segment. “The country’s strong and stable economy as well as the continuous growth

flow through society, resulting in no waste. Zero waste encompasses more than eliminating waste through recycling and reuse, it focuses on restructuring production and distribution systems to reduce waste. Zero waste is more of a goal or ideal rather than a hard target. Zero Waste provides guiding principles for continually working towards eliminating wastes. Eliminating waste from the outset requires heavy involvement primarily from industry and government since they are presented with more advantages than individuals. Zero waste will not be possible without significant efforts and actions from industry and government. Industry has control over product and packaging design, manufacturing processes, and material selection. Governments have the ability to form policy and provide subsidies for better product manufacturing, design and the ability to develop and adopt comprehensive waste management strategies which can eliminate waste rather than just manage it. In industry this process involves creating commodities out of traditional waste products,

of the BPO sector have propelled our growth in 2013. Last year was another banner year for Megaworld,” says Dr. Andrew L. Tan, chairman and CEO, Megaworld. Total revenues of Megaworld, together with its subsidiaries Empire East Land Holdings and Suntrust Properties, amounted to P36.24-billion in 2013, up 18 percent from P30.6 billion in 2012. The Megaworld Group posted a record P68.2-billion in reservation sales in 2013 from the 18 projects launched. Last year’s launched projects include 10 for Megaworld: One Eastwood Avenue Tower 2 in Eastwood City; Uptown Parksuites in essentially making old outputs new inputs for similar or different industrial sectors. An example might be the cycle of a glass milk bottle. The primary input (or resource) is silica-sand, which is formed into glass and then into a bottle. The bottle is filled with milk and distributed to the consumer. At this point, normal waste methods would see the bottle disposed in a landfill or similar. But with a zero-waste method, the bottle can be saddled at the time of sale with a deposit, which is returned to the bearer upon redemption. The bottle is then washed, refilled, and resold. The only material waste is the wash water, and energy loss has been minimized. Zero waste can represent an economical alternative to waste systems, where new resources are continually required to replenish wasted raw materials. It can also represent an environmental alternative to waste since waste represents a significant amount of pollution in the world. PH aggie vis-à-vis Asean union MUCH have been said about the 2015 Asean integration but not much have been understood what are the ramifications of this move to Philippine agriculture in particular and the country as a whole. I know that preparations are done to prepare the countr y toward an integrated Asean region by next year but truth is that a large majority of the populace are blind about it. How in heaven can the government then expect a popular support in this regard if the people have not fully understood what it is all about? Integrating the Asean countries into one big community is a laudable objective. Becoming a community is what we need in this time where division among peoples and nations has become the rule rather than the exception. The spat China has with the rest of her immediate neighbors over territories claimed by the latter as theirs separately and likewise claimed by the former as hers exclusively is a classic danger when nations are torn apart by differences instead of united by one common goal. In this regard, only a community can have one common goal with less divergent objectives. A community, however, is basically that of people. When we say a community of nations, we are actually referring to a community of people coming from different nations or countries. Relationships are built amongst peoples not amongst inanimate things. So, when leaders of the

It is a fact, that the Philippine economy is still basically an agriculture-based economy.’ Asean region thought of integrating their respective nations to form one big community, the community they intended to build is a community of people. Since it is a community of people, the success and failure of such move largely depends on the support of the people being integrated. It is for this reason that getting the support of the people for such integration to succeed becomes a must and not just an option. I don’t think the Aquino administration has fulfilled this requirement of making the Filipino people understand the fundamental reasons for such integration. I am of the view that the integration has not been thoroughly and thoughtfully discussed with the people because the basic intention is not really to form a com-

Education Empowerment By: Nilah L. Siban

Education has been a very significant matter to humanity, acquiring innumerable defined meanings through the years. To many, attaining education is something that an individual could call as his own achievement, neither one’s learning could not be taken from them. This is where the teacher’s plays a significant vital role to educate and equipped the students with skills and knowledge as their instruments in order to have a better future. Education is a key that make a person to be sensible in his acts, words and beliefs. It is also a driving force that improve and enhance the personality of an entity. In the absence of Education, one may forget to take control over his intellect and as well, on his acts. It is already a cliche that when everything that resulted to success or a mess is a result of one’s actions and thinking.

Having an education is similar to reaching out a goal in life. the more you learn through education the easier you meet what you wanted to get out of your life. It is not just actually what people learned from four classroom corners but on their everyday encounters. Each new encounter will bring new learning, filling his thirst of knowledge. These are some of the reasons which education has been a must-attained matter. After all, education is made in order to boost thinking and communicating skills and bring opportunities, in which each being is interested into. Education is a big deal at all starting in our home followed by our schools and our environment. Educations is unending and a challenge indeed.

munity of people coming from divergent backgrounds but a community of varying economies. The rationale for such integration is fundamentally economics. Economics being inanimate, this integration of the Asean economies will not build a community but will just serve as a vehicle in advancing the economic interest of one economy over the others in the guise of propping each other’s economy in the process. If this is the case, then the Philippines will again be in the short end of the deal. While it is true that our economy needs propping up, integration with the other economies in the region is not the remedy. Success in the integrated economy presupposes readiness on our part to do business with our neighbors. But are we really that ready to do business with them? Let’s take a look at one particular sector in the Philippine economy, agriculture, as example. It is a fact, that the Philippine economy is still basically an agriculture-based economy. As such, our economic engagement in an integrated Asean is through our agricultural products. But do we really have a strong domestic agriculture

Since we have the internet, should we or should we not eliminate Books? By: Nilah L. Siban Many use the internet nowadays for them to do their jobs quickly. They believe that is one way of solving hard problems. Among the group of ages, teenage students fondly used the internet. They seem to be seen everywhere inside net cafes. However, learning is not only found in the internet. It also comes from books. So, these things should never be eliminated for they give more advantages than the internet. The first advantage from the books is widening the imagination of the reader. There are books without illustration which challenge the teenagers’capabilityof thinking. Thus the teenage students are able to used their minds deeply and critically. It also widens the imagining capacity of each reader especially the teenagers. Books lessens laziness. Teenagers today

when the government since time immemorial has done concrete moves to elevate Philippine agriculture from its subsistence state to a highly developed one? Only the other day that I read in the papers that the Philippine government through the National Food Authority is intending to again import 800,000 metric tons of rice from our neighboring countries. Rice, we should remember, is the country’s staple food. If we can not produce our own staple food by ourselves, then what can we offer our neighbors in terms of our agricultural produce? This is a basic issue insofar as this integration thing is concerned. But the government is not telling the people about this fact because the more the Filipino people will not support this integration move that in truth and in fact will not serve the interest of our nation but our other neighbors whose economies are far better than ours. The Aquino administration may, however, claim that we have posted the second best economic growth rate in the region for last year thus proving our readiness to stand up with our neighbors. But did this second best economic growth rate improve the lot of the majority of the populace who are statistically considered poor? Your answer to this question is as good as mine. •• (Reactions at jelbacon@ yahoo.com or at jelbaconii@gmail.com. Read me also at www.raconteurme. blogspot.com) want everthing to be fast and easy. That is the major reason why they go the internet for any academic researches. On the other hand, if they desired to read books, they will learned the true meaning of working and exerting efforts to what they do. It is because they will be sparing time for the books they will read and they will not just be clicking the mouse and get what they want. Finally books brings concentration to teenagerslike the internet wherein they are trapped in situations where they find other things to do instead of focusing to the main purpose, books directly emphasized that things teenagers need to know. Furthermore, the teenagers students get the main idea they are looking for without any addicting entertainment attached. How important books are if we only look at the advantages of each. Even up to this moments many still argue about the conflict between the internet and books. However, books are still having these great advantages compared to the internet.

The role of a teacher The Importance of Scouting By: Nilah L. Siban

A teacher is created in order to teach and to serve. They are every child’s guide light in traveling to the future and through him, they will have a good one. It is a teacher’s duty to equip skills and knowledge to students mind because these are their instruments to have the best future they want to have. Every student has encountered various kinds of teachers in which some of them are hated and some are loved. However, it is pretty sure that they love even those teachers who disap-

pointed, scolded and insulted them because it is where learning came from. After all, they are teachers whose aim for students is to learn from them. Being a teacher is not simply being a teacher by profession but is all about being a servant to the public she doesn’t even know one by one. A teacher is also, at the same time, a parent to children who are not from her own home and a leader to students who could possibly her own leader someday.

By: Nilah L. Siban There are essential values that the student needs to learn outside the four sides of the corner of a classroom. These values are not just kept within their minds but are put into practice. Students will not always remained within the school premises, they will always to go out and face the real world with challenging real life situation. This is why scouting is vital. It enhances chances the students ability to cope with situations wherein critical applications of values learned need exercises. One of the essential values of scouting is services. Students should realize that the knowledge they acquire should be kept in a box one must always build at the heart of service. In scouting, service to man is emphasized and applied service to others cannot be exercised only in the mind; it has to be practiced in various circumstances. In real life students will become individuals who will be part of a complex community which need a helping haand. This is why service is required of them to be known and employed. Scouting

also develop self discipline several activities are implented to teach students this value. They are trained to restrained themselves from doing thiings unnecessary to what is being asked of them and bring their wills to do what importantly required. Events like these means working within a group a different characters but for togetherness of all will always have to start in disciplaining oneself. Service and self discipline are only some of the many values highlightened in scouting. A number of students may not be able to see this exceedingly important as they go through all the activities implented but as they move forward to the challenges of life that awaits them they will realized the great need of these values. Different situation will continue to test their principles but with fundamentals values develope, they can confidently step ones it with hearts and minds always ready.

“Saulog” to cap Zambo Norte’s 62nd Founding Anniv By MARY MAE ABELLON

DIPOLOG CITY – The provincial government of Zamboanga del Norte is already preparing for its 62nd Founding Anniversary on June 6, 2014 with “Saulog” highlighting the event. Saulog is a Visayan term for celebration, replaced the “Hudyaka Festival” of the previous administration. This celebration, it was learned, departs from lavish and meaningless merrymaking activities spearheaded by the previous leadership to celebrate province’s founding anniversary. Saulog is now a perfect occasion to recognize all accomplishments and achievements of the province’s two cities and 25 municipalities as well as civil society organizations which have contributed to building better Zamboanga del Norte, said acting Provincial Tourism Officer Joshua Bicoy. “The current administration wants to focus on the integration and coordination of various initiatives under one development framework of the provincial government, which can be summarized a total human development coupled with enhancement of infrastructure for socio-economic progress,” he added. A number of activities have been lined up starting May 29 until June 6, 2014 to

commemorate the creation of the province in 1952 by virtue of Republic Act 711, with the “Halad Pasalamat” or thanksgiving mass. There will also be an agri-industrial fair to showcase the different agricultural/commercial products of each town/city. Among the activities lined up for the province’s founding anniversary include the Santa Cruzan, AFP static display, tri-people cultural presentation, arts festival exhibit, a night of music, employees night, achievers’ awards night, taebo activity, ballroom competition, livelihood and skills training, agri-tourism industrial trade fair, short film festival, provincial skills competition, inter-LGU basketball tournament, inter-office sports tournament, invitational football, badminton, dart and golf tournaments, amateur boxing event, invitational long board push race and skateboard competition, Maxxis Cup 4x4 Extreme National Offroad Challenge, Saulog extreme challenge, invitational road race competition, jobs fair, agri-cooking contest, journalism contest, photography contest, saulog kite flying festival, street dancing and showdown, live band concert, charter run 2014 and fireworks display. The groups that signed the memorandum of agreement (MOA) include the Balubal Integrated Social Forestry Farmers’ Association (BISFFA); Sipaca Resources and Management Services, Incorporated (SReMS); Integrated Social Forestry Farmers’ Association (ISFFA); Tribal Settlers Association-Womens’ Association of the Barangay (TRISA-WAB) Multi-Purpose Cooperative; Kapunungasan sa Bato Upland Tribal Tillers Incorporated (KAB-UTT); Bayanga Integrated Social Forestry Farmers’ Association (BISFFA); and Sta. Cruz United Farmers’ Association. DTI Provincial Director Ma. Elisa A. Pabillore signed the agreement on behalf of the government. SSF is a livelihood assistance program that entails the setting up of common service facilities or production centers for certain processes to give the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) access to better technology and sophisticated equipment, said Pabillore. Farmers from Cagayan de Oro and Talisayan town in Misamis Oriental witnessed the signing of agreement held at DTi conference room in Cagayan de Oro on April 14. Under the agreement, the DTI-Misamis Oriental will provide the equipment such as pole cutters, node removers, bamboo slicers, and carbonizing machines for the beneficiaries to use in producing the “E-Kawayan” (engineered kawayan) or bamboo slabs. The government has allocated P2.7 million purportedly to further strengthen the bamboo industry in Misamis Oriental. Pabillore said there were 24 SSF projects approved in 2013 where 12 have already been turned over to its respective benefeciaries. This was the second time that DTI signed an agricultural development agreement in Misamis Oriental. The first signing happened on February 28, 2014.

the various law schools in the Visayas and in Mindanao have called for the decentralization of the BAR exams and have the exams held simultaneously in Manila, Visayas and Mindanao. In filing the resolution, Rodriguez cited the additional difficulties of bar exam takers in going to Manila and staying there for four weeks which drain the examinees financially, emotionally and psychologically. While the bar examination is considered the most difficult licensure examination in the country, the financial, emotional and psychological baggage also contributes to the dismal result of the annual bar examination, Rodriguez added. He said that in 2010 the rest of the law deans in the Visayas have previously filed a petition asking the Supreme Court to also hold the Bar Exams in regional centers like Cebu. The Supreme Court, however, did not acquiesce to the petition while arguing that the integrity of the Bar Exam would be compromised considering the danger of leakage while the test questions are being transported to the regional centers, Rodriguez said.

Why Play Chess? Angelito Felisilda, Bugo Central School Bugo, Cagayan de Oro City

“Chess is a game of imagination and strategy, one that provides rules, order and opportunities for intellectual growth. Chess teaches a skill that can be applied to other aspects of life. For example, it teaches one to plan carefully in advance, to visualize various situations before making a move, and the importance of patience. How many of us have acted without thinking and then wished we could take back our actions? Well, the game of chess will quickly teach a child to analyze before acting. There have even been studies which support the claim that chess improves a person’s organizational and analytical skills.” – Gadfly (The advantages of learning the art of chess) Learning chess helps de-

velop thinking skills, enhancing mental prowess and directly contributes to academic performance and makes people smarter in a variety of ways, such as concentration, critical thinking, abstract reasoning, problem solving, pattern recognition, strategic planning, creativity, analysis, synthesis and evaluation. Chess can be used very effectively as a tool to teach problem solving and abstract reasoning. Learning to solve a problem is more important than learning the solution to any problem. Through chess, we learn to be careful, disciplined decisions, understanding that the first option is not always the best option. Dr. Brian Boyd stated that “playing chess is likely to promote spatial and analytical intelligence, effective

learning and interpersonal skills, problem solving and decision making, self esteem and self confidence. With these precepts, the Department of Education (DepEd) has arranged the integration of chess into the curriculum of grade school and high school students. In DepEd Memorandum No. 1 series 2009, that chess will be included in the “Edukasyon sa Pagpapalakas ng Katawan” subject of Grade 3 to 6 students and in the Physical Education in high school. The DepEd should look into these and issued another Deped Order to ensure the success of the program and that it should be fully implemented because I believe if a child learn to play chess she/he can improve his/ her schoolwork and grades.

Raveness Special Gospel of the day:Luke1:67-79 Luke 1:67-79- that we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; To perform the mercy [promised] to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; The oath which he swore to our father Abraham, That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life. And thou, child, shall be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shall go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, To give light to them that sit in darkness and [in] the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace: This gospel teaches us about the proclamation of Zacharias about the “Messiah Jesus Christ.” He was the first who recognized Jesus as the savior of this earth. He was brave in telling the public about Jesus. Supposedly, we will imitate this man with regards to his “braveness” in telling Jesus to others. In Matthew 10:32-33-Whosoever therefore shall “confess” me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
