Piñol seeks lifting of ‘no backride’ policy in M’nao By CHE PALICTE
DAVAO CITY – Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said Saturday the government’s ‘no backride’ policy snags the economic recovery of the country. “In as far as Mindanao is concerned, this policy is impractical, unrealistic and counter-productive and Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) will officially request InterAgency Task Force (IATF) that this be rescinded,” he said. As Chairman of the MinDA, Piñol said he will officially transmit on Sunday to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) a communication requesting that Mindanao be exempted from the policy which bans people from riding tandem in a motorcycle. SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur— Another 31 persons in Caraga region were tested positive with COVID-19 bringing to a total of 87 cases or a rapid 10 times increase since June 1. The Depar tment of Health’s Center for Health Development-Caraga (DOH CHD-Caraga) reported the dreaded disease has afflicted eight mining workers in Claver town in Surigao del Norte while the remaining 23 were distributed in different parts of the region. The DOH-CHD noted the new cases confirmed with results from reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests, 22 are locally stranded individuals (LSIs), a returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs) and the eight mining workers. Dr. Jose R. Llacuna Jr., DOH regional director for Caraga,, however, disclosed there is no new local transmission recorded in the recent COVID-19 laboratory results from Southern Philippines Medical Center.
